Hopefully we'll get an Assassins creed in japan in the future

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 03:01 AM PST

I've been playing "Ghost of tsushima" last couple of days because a friend of mine let me borrow the game. I'll admit it's pretty awesome and it has similarities to the assassins creed franchise game play. I almost wish it was. hopefully in the future they will make an assassins creed in feudal japan.

    Origins wildlife was really immersive

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 03:53 PM PST

I don't feel like Origins gets enough credit for it's attention to detail, especially when it comes to the way wildlife works in the game. There is so much variety to the animals and they genuinely feel threatening at times, when you are surrounded with nowhere to climb to safety. I also really liked how there were random animal attacks that you could prevent, and that you could often lure enemies into animals or visa versa. There was so many nice little touches with how flocks of flamingos would fly away when you approached water crossings, or how vultures would start to congregate around dead animals.

I miss the crafting too. It was a nice diversion from the normal gameplay loop whenever you needed or wanted to switch gears for a bit.

I don't see too many people talk about it but the presence of wildlife in Origins and the way it functioned was really well done and gave the game a lot of personality.

Valhalla Post launch support is just mediocre and underwhelming

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 07:21 AM PST

Game is full of false promises, i did have fun with the campaign and there are really good things, but the amount of mtx, the lackluster quality of yule season and river raids, reskins as a reward, mediocre rpg elements, good ideas but bad execution in most ambits have made me lost faith in the game, maybe the dlc's are good, but i will never buy another ac at launch, just wait for a sale

What’s your favorite quote(s) from your favorite AC character(s)

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 07:21 PM PST

Mine has gotta be "What a prick" by Jacob Frye and "I wasn't invited to the party" by Arno Dorian.

Btw if y'all are interested, I am putting together a Jacob Frye cosplay. I'll post it on here when it's done!

Is there a weird amount of world events in Valhalla that involve children?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 08:36 PM PST

Anyone else notice that? Seems like every other world event or mission that I find involves finding something for a child or playing a game with children. Thought it was kind of weird for such a mature game with beheadings, finishers and whatnot.

You go from killing mass amounts of people with axes to the head to playing hide and seek with a few kids.

Why does Ubisoft fear marketing mainline AC games with a female protagonist?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 07:43 PM PST

To address the elephant in the room, Liberation was for vita so I don't consider it mainline. Yes, an HD release for consoles was eventually made but it was initially a spinoff of 3. Same deal with Chronicles. Chronicles China brought back Shao Jun from the Revelations short AC:Embers but again, none of the Chronicles games are considered mainline.

So let's start with AC. From AC through AC Unity, it was a series dominated by male protagonists. Altair, Ezio, Connor, Edward, Shay, and Arno. Then, the Frye twins came along. Ubisoft wasn't ready to have a female protagonist by herself but they were ready to include a female that could be switched to and from. As I said, it seems they are/were more afraid of the marketing aspect. Watch the cinematic trailers, the E3 trailers, the announcement trailers. They are dominated by Jacob(granted he was the brasher more in your face twin, and Evie held to the creed a bit more closely). I remember seeing Evie in a gameplay/story trailer but a lot of what trailers can be found on youtube focus on Jacob. Them came Origins and next up Odyssey.

Odyssey is where this issue REALLY sticks out. Because of all the choices you could make in the game(kill a character, don't kill the character, etc.) there is a novelization of the canonical version of events. So many posters showed Alexios, I'm pretty sure the game case did too. Both the premiere and launch trailers used Alexios. But, canonically, Kassandra is the protagonist. So, why plaster Alexios everywhere? Why not market with Kassandra.

Finally, Valhalla. All trailers were made with male Eivor. They were eventually remade to show off female Eivor but Ubisoft took their time remaking trailers. Gave the world plenty of time to see male Eivor. Put him on the cover of the game, on posters, thumbnails, etc. The thing I found to be most shocking is using the in universe reason to have the option to choose between a male and a female (letting the Animus decide Eivor's gender was the most canonically correct choice) it sounded like I'd switch back and forth over the course of the game depending on whether the male or female DNA signal was stronger. That wasn't the case. I was a female the entire game unless I was in Asgard or Jotunheim. For the canonical choice being dominated so heavily by the female Eivor, why did all the initial marketing use male Eivor.

I don't really care, I'm a dude who's buying the game regardless. It's just an odd trend I've noticed. Also, forget marketing, why not just make a game where the protagonist is without choice a female. Two of my favorite games(Control and Horizon: Zero Dawn) have female protagonists. If the story and gameplay are there, I would assume most people(me included) don't care about what demographic the protagonist is in.

It's amazing how well the old games of the series still hold up

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 09:17 AM PST

Bustling cities are a great change of pace from the vast forests and deserts of the recent installments, and in many ways the games are even better than the modern stuff. The social stealth is more refined (or relative to some installments, exists), the parkour is much more complex (in a good way), and the assassin recruiting mechanic from Brotherhood and Revelations feels like something that should've stuck with the series.

They do show their age in some spots of course (like the lack of fast travel, or the need to go to a store/base to change gear), but if you're looking to just feel like an assassin then it's definitely worth playing (or replaying!) some of the older entries to the series.

I started replaying Brotherhood the other day and I can say that if the graphics and animations were enhanced to current tech, it would feel like a game that just came out last year.

The [SPOILERS] in Valhalla were written PERFECTLY

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 10:32 PM PST

    https://youtu.be/rHhBNQPV09I

On a Norse binge, decided to dig through Norse and GOW2018 lore.

Listening to Mimir talk about the Gods, it made me realize Valhalla's GODS were written PERFECTLY (They could have looked better though).

Odin was more of a trickster, obsessed with knowledge at all costs. They wrote Odin so excellently I'm surprised more reviewers don't mention it.

If you listen to Mimir speak, he perfectly describes Valhalla's Odin and how his arrogance and fear of prophecy led him to do terrible things.

Tyr, just like the sagas and GOW, was a wise God of War, kind to Fenrir and he wanted to avoid chaos and fighting.

    Thor was hotheaded and brash.

Loki, last of all, was probably the best. He and Basim are easily some of the best written characters in the entire Assassin's Creed franchise. Their reaction to loss is so human, and it's hard to blame them after what Odin did to them. Not evil, but much more human than the others, which made him prone to trickery

If you're into Norse mythology, give the video of Mimir talking a listen. He talks about all the Gods, Odin especially. After a while listening, you'll come to see how perfectly Valhalla translated Odin.

There's even a story of The Builder, Hrimthur, who was given an interesting spin in the Asgard Arc.

Heck, Mimir talks about the walls of Asgard being shoddy as the Aesir thought themselves too highly to properly reinforce the walls. The Asgard in Valhalla represents that PERFECTLY, as Asgard definitely doesn't look all too fantastic.

I would kill for more Edward Kenway

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 02:56 PM PST

Personally I think Black Flag is the best in the series, although I know others disagree. A game set in 60's Britain with Edward Kenway as the protagonist (and yes, I do know he is dead by this point obviously but I believe they could find a precursor McMuffin to get around that). I just think seeing Edward in a period of radical change would be really cool, and it could be interesting him seeing the assassins brotherhood of the time, maybe even finding out about his son's turn to the templars after his death, and then having to act more like his old pirate ways again. I wonder what everyone else thinks of this idea? Really I just want more Edward Kenway and would love to see this setting in an AC game!

AC Valhalla, tattoos and every single armor covering your body completely. What kind of design decision is that?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 11:37 AM PST

It may sound more like a rant than a question but; How and why did they do this?

I know you can make armors invisible but that is not really my point. It does not look right, because they also did not design armors with that in mind. My point is when they announced tattoos were going to be in this game, in the Viking age, I was sure they would have some cool armor designs to go with it. But there is not a single armor set that is designed with any kind of tattoos in mind. Like I get that they are not all like that, but not a single set? So, they went like ; let's put tattoos in game but not even one sleeveless armor set, even though some NPC's have them. Why Ubisoft?

AC Odyssey Might Have Ruined all future AC games for me.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 07:37 AM PST

Just completed odyssey and bought Valhalla about a week later. Odyssey was SUCH a masterpiece of a game and because of that Valhalla falls sort. Especially in the combat style. What do you think?

Edit: I've played 20 hours in Valhalla and hardly have skills to make combat fluid. I'm just mashing RT and RB compared to odyssey where combat is SO fluid.

Additional info: I've played AC 1, 2, 3, black flag, odyssey and Valhalla. My comment on that probably got buried somewhere.

If there were only three games left in the series, what three settings would you choose?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 05:47 AM PST

For the purposes of discussion, we are just going to assume that all three remaining games follow the AC formula you personally like best. What three settings do you really want to be in AC at the expense of all other possibilities?

    For me:

    - China. Preferably following Shao Jun, as I feel she deserves her own real game.

    - Thirty Years War, in Germany.

    - Napoleonic Wars, in Russia but primarily Moscow and St. Petersburg.

    Research on Gaming and Wellbeing

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 07:48 PM PST

    Hey there!

The moderators gave me permission to tell you about the current research I'm doing.

I'm a master's cyberpsychology student at The university of Buckingham, and I'm researching the impact that gaming during difficult life situations could have on the players' wellbeing, for the purpose of this study difficult life situations are negative, stressful situations in your life that made you employ some kind of coping strategy, things like relationship breakdowns, coping with loss, losing a job, moving to a new house, questioning your identity, etc.

If you choose to accept this quest and complete the survey, your responses will be completely anonymous, and you can withdraw from the study at any point by closing the tab, it takes around 10 minutes to complete the survey, and every answer is very valuable.

Assassin's Creed Origins Critique - An Incredible Accomplishment

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 02:27 PM PST

Looking for players interested in playing an Assassin's Creed themed RPG campaign

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 01:11 PM PST

During the past few years, I've been creating and enhancing a custom TTRPG system for historical settings to play with a group of friends (it mixes DnD with The Witcher TTRPG and a custom combat system). It worked really well, so I'm trying to find new players that would like to experience the Assassin fantasy through an (most likely) year long campaign.

The story will be set in the early 16th century during the Swedish War of Liberation, but the story will take the players not only to Sweden, but also through most of Scandinavia and some parts of the HRE. The reason I chose this setting is the variety of weapons and armor the period offers, giving more freedom in terms of customization and gameplay possibilities, and I'm much more knowledgeable about Medieval and Renaissance European History, so I'll be able to make the experience as authentic as possible to the players (I'm not a historian, but will try to keep it as realistic to the period and historical events as possible, while still making it fun and engaging).

The idea is to create a 3 to 4 players party to play during the weekends, either once every week, or every two weeks.

    Requirements for participation:

    • Must be 18 or older. The campaign won't deal with any mature themes besides violence or anything you wouldn't see in an AC Game, but I wanna make sure the party is made of mature players.
    • Have basic knowledge about the Assassin's Creed lore.
    • Having a Discord Account and a functioning microphone.
    • Always be respectful towards the other players.
    • Speak and understand English. You don't need to be a native speaker (I'm not one either) and it's ok if you have an accent as long as the group is able to understand.
    • Be willing to take the time for the campaign and let the group know in advance in case you won't be able to participate in a specific day. The length of each session will vary depending on the decisions made by the group (usually 2 to 4 hours per session, but there can always be days where we will have more or less time to play).
    • Show interest in learning the game's mechanics, play the game with genuine interest and pay attention to the events during the session (taking notes in order to remember things that happened during the game is strongly recommended, it shows you are committed to both the story and the group).

Apart from having all the requirements met, anyone wishing to play will have to send me the idea they have for their Assassin Character (backstory, appearance details, etc) before entering the game. This will be the first step to show that you are willing to put time into it, creating an interesting character, enhancing the experience of the other players and your own.

    Character Creation Guide:

    • Backstory: you can make it as much detailed as you wish. Just keep in mind that every player will begin as an Assassin novice. But that doesn't stop you from having life experience before becoming an Assassin, creating many possibilities for allies, enemies and knowledge about various topics. The game will start in the second half of 1520, in Stockholm. You can utilize any event prior to this date to influence your character's journey up to that point. Possible ethnic groups to choose from, fitting the setting are: Swedes, Danes, Norwegians and Germans (and in case your backstory fits, for example, being a former mercenary from a foreign nation or originally an Assassin from a foreign brotherhood, the options are pretty much endless).
    • Create side characters to enhance the character's background, such as family members, friends, allies, groups to which the character is connected, etc.
    • Describe the character's appearance and outfit you'd like him to wear (once all players are set, I'll create a custom artwork with the characters to be the icon of the campaign's server).
    • Things such as starting weapons and equipment will be decided during the introductory session, but you can certainly describe the type of weapons and gear you prefer.
    • There will be 4 classes to choose from: Stalker (focused heavily on stealth and agility), Warrior (having specialized combat skills), Marksman (focused on long ranged weapons and items such as bombs and traps) and Chemist (focusing on healing and dealing with chemical substances to create items such as berserk poison, sleep poison, etc). No class will stop you from trying different approaches, they will only give you proficiencies that the others don't have, so, for example, a Warrior class character will be able to be stealthy (it's an AC RPG after all), but the Stalker will have more Stealth skills at their disposal.

Once you create your character, just private message me. The best characters will be chosen to participate and in case many people show interest, I might even make two separate groups, so everyone showing genuine interest and creativity is able to play.

In case you have any other doubts, just comment and I'll make sure to answer. This campaign is beginner friendly, so even if you don't have experience with TTRPGs, all the systems will be explained during the introductory session.
