- Assassin's Creed 1 originally had characters made from 500,000 to 1 million polygons, but then downgraded to as little as 3,000 for the game. What kept the characters "high-res" was the normal mapping alongside dynamic lighting.
- The hidden blade was originally supposed to have a ring, that when you pull it, it activates the blade. (Source: AC1's artbook.)
- Instead of Male/Female selection, the Syndicate method should be the standard.

(Source: AC1's art book) The imgur album I made linked above shows some interesting comparisons. The point of this is, if they were to make a remake or a remaster, these would be extremely useful. I wish they made it available as a patch to the first game, with of course not a million polygons on each character but much more than what we got. [link] [comments]

Instead of Male/Female selection, the Syndicate method should be the standard. Posted: 15 Jul 2020 02:54 PM PDT I really dislike the whole gender swap on Eivor, not because it "should" be one or the other, but because it creates a "blank vessel" situation where the story simply isn't tailored to one or the other and has to resort to generic story beats in the manner Odyssey did. Is there anyone that would even attempt to argue that Bayeks story wasn't vastly superior to anything in Odyssey (which I love btw) And why is that? Because it was tailored to him and highly specific as opposed to generic nonsense. Recently, I played and beat Syndicate for the first time, and it quickly launched into my top 3 AC games with Black Flag and Origin. One of the things I loved was the brother sister dynamic and how you could switch them out basically at will, and on top of that they had unique skills and whatnot, plus entertaining family squabbles and different personalities. After witnessing this system from years ago, they could have adapted this system a million different ways to fit Valhalla and other games. They've already got to do double duty on voice lines, so it wouldn't be more intensive to record different lines, so you could have them in competition, or a relationship, father daughter or vice versa. There's a million ways you could pull off dual characters and still maintain representation without resorting to generic blank slate nonsense. By the way, if you haven't played Syndicate, get on it that game is phenomenal. [link] [comments]

I miss the elegance the assassins like Altair, Ezio and Arno had. Posted: 15 Jul 2020 02:30 AM PDT Since I started playing Assassins Creed, I felt there was always a mix of elegance in combination with a hint of arrogance in these Assassins. ( Connors father is also good example). There was a lot of self-respect and refinement, which also showed in their low and high profile combat. It is weird to explain, but these kind of personalities were most intriguing for me, since their personal development is the hardest which requires self reflection. I hope some understand what I mean. [link] [comments]
I just wanna say I love how brutal ac valhalla is Posted: 15 Jul 2020 11:58 AM PDT It really feels like ubisoft didn't hold back on the gore in this game and it's awesome. One of the things that bugged me in odyssey was that decapitation did not happen despite having huge two handed axes slamming into enemy faces, and in this game you seem to be able to decapitate with almost every weapon, even shields. I love it [link] [comments]
I think choosing gender should not be a thing in assassin creed. Posted: 15 Jul 2020 10:12 PM PDT I think the gender should have been decided. Bye alexios, yes Kassandra. Bye who ever is the non canon in the new ac game and yes canon. Its not a big deal but yeah. And before you say what's wrong with choosing gender? I like when they decide someone gender instead. I can feel their story more and enjoy the game more. It's just my opinion though. [link] [comments]
Exploration will be one of, if not the best feature in Valhalla. Posted: 15 Jul 2020 04:58 AM PDT Combat, stealth and story aside, Valhalla's new focus on exploration is such a good change to the massive open worlds that the new games have. Your map is no longer littered with question marks and map icons for you to tick of and it's up to you to stumble across them, or use Synin to scout out interesting locations for you to go to. And with only 3 kinds of blips on the screen (wealth, mystery or secrets) they'll be so much variety of what you can discover there. The new world event system looks to add so much life to the world as they can be big quests, little quests or just conversations with people. It makes the world feel developed and alive. The quests are designed so that you are interested in them and you pursue the quest if you want to and aren't forced into it as world events/side quests aren't marked in the quest log. This system is very similar to RDR2, which has such a good open world design. The box-ticking system for forts and camps is gone now as it's your job to find all the secrets and loot in the area and you are free to approach things how you want. Areas of the map look to have puzzles for you to solve and encourage you to find things to help you explore by using Odin Sight or parkour. In all these locations, notes are scattered around them which gives you a story to each area. The world design also seems to help boost certain mechanics that weren't so good in previous games. For example, Valhalla still uses the same boring parkour from Origins and Odyssey, but now the world design looks to incorporate free running paths to make the most out of that parkour. Overall, this kind of open world design will definitely be a key feature to Valhalla and probably end up being one of the best things about the game. [link] [comments]
It's hard for me to connect with characters if the facial animations are horrible Posted: 15 Jul 2020 01:34 PM PDT This becomes especially problematic when you have a great writer like McDevitt writing the game.. I'm sure his writing will be fantastic but it needs good facial animations for us to feel the emotional beats of the story Camera angles and cinematography in a cutscene and dialogue scenes also are important. Very. From what I have seen in Valhalla right now the animations are on Andromeda level and that was awful. Oh, how I miss the times of crafted cutscenes and mocapped acting. [link] [comments]
Why do people love Black Flag yet are also bashing Valhalla? Posted: 15 Jul 2020 08:25 AM PDT Before I start this I just want to say that I'm a huge fan of the series and black flag is up there as one of my favourites and the same can be said for a lot of other fans. It is truly a fantastic game that everyone loves. However the same people are bashing Valhalla and saying that it isn't "assassins creed", however it is really similar to black flag. In both games you don't play as an assassin (I know Edward becomes an assassin but for 90% of the game he isn't one) and in Edwards case the story heavily revolves around his pirate lifestyle which entangles with the assassins and he eventually develops into one and from what we've heard so far it's similar to Eivor being that he has his own separate arc that entangles with the assassin v Templar story. Another thing that people are griping with is that Valhalla is a "copy paste" of Odyssey yet the same can be said for Black flag in the fact that gameplay was very similar to AC3 being that they had the same engine which meant that combat, parkour etc were the same with a few improvements here and there and nobody had a problem with it. I guess I'm just frustrated because the devs have really put in effort to bring us a great mix of Assassins Creed elements and the RPG that Ubisoft higher ups want. After all it is made by the same people who made Black Flag so they know how to make a great game. Think people just need to have a little faith in Darby because he truly cares about the franchise and it's lore and I know that he will do it justice with the story in Valhalla. Just Finished Origins, What a Great Game Posted: 15 Jul 2020 11:32 PM PDT I want to preface this post by saying I've been a fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise ever since I first got a ps3 back in 2012, I played through ezio's games like I was an addict that couldn't stop. Aside from AC3, I loved every following game up through Syndicate. Yes, even while a lot of people shit on Syndicate, I thought it was a great game. Unfortunately due to the response to Syndicate and the overwhelming acclaim for games like The Witcher 3, Ubisoft rebranded the entire series. When Origins first came out I was not a fan of the new design, electing to ignore the series until it became assassin's creed again. Then Valhalla was announced, a setting so intriguing it actually convinced me to go back and play Origins in anticipation of Valhalla. Now that I've finished the game, I just want to go back and punch 2017 me for turning a blind eye to this wonderful game. Not only is the setting of Egypt beautiful and fun to explore, but the story and the character of Bayek were a treat to watch develop over the course of the game. The new RPG-focused mechanics proved more fun than I had anticipated, albeit somewhat shallow in areas. The crafting of better gear seemed fun in theory but the extremely grindy nature of collecting crafting materials quickly put a bitter taste in my mouth, made only worse by the fact that you can spend real money on "time saver" packs to buy a whole slew of crafting materials in bulk. Also, I felt I rarely came across an outfit or weapon I felt looked particularly cool. That was until I came across the outfits and themed sets you can buy in the store, deflating my hopes of finding interesting armor in the game. Aside from those gripes, what always kept me returning to the game was exploring the world and experiencing the story. Bayek is easily my favorite AC protagonist from the modern series. After AC4 it felt like we entered a lull in interesting protagonists, my least favorites being Jacob Frye and Arno (who everyone, including myself, consistently refers to as a watered-down Ezio with zero charm). Bayek felt like a rich and empathetic character, being driven to kill not for the creed but for the memory of his son. He had charisma yet he wasn't a generic "ladies-man", he was adventurous and intimidating but also kind and reserved. He's one of Ubisoft's most fleshed-out characters and I truly looked forward to the conclusion to his story. Of course, it seems the creators of this game didn't feel that way and completely ignored him in the final quest of the story, instead focusing entirely on Aya. Now don't get me wrong, I don't despise Aya, I just despise that the writers seem so much interested in her than in Bayek, the character YOU PLAY AS. I wouldn't mind her as much if she wasn't so one-dimensional and cold, I understand that her way of dealing with Khemu's death was to devote herself entirely to her work, but why does that mean she has to be so emotionless? It felt so disappointing to get so little closure for Bayek, yet get a huge ending for a character we only ever saw a handful of times in the game, usually when commanding a ship. Stop putting ship combat in your games Ubisoft, please, just stop. This post probably ended up sounding more like a rant about the things I didn't like in the game rather than my appraisal for the things I did like, but I really did love this game. I've yet to play the DLC, however I just bought the season pass so I have both DLCs to look forward to now! [link] [comments]
URGENT I'm stuck on the second mission in Valhalla. Need help. Posted: 15 Jul 2020 07:26 PM PDT Hey guys, so like the title says, I can't get past the second mission in Valhalla. It says I need to meet Björn outside of the longhouse, but I keep bumping into another villager at the bar and I spill his mead (is this always supposed to happen?)... Anyways he challenges me to some Flyting (Viking rap battle, for the normies out there) but always ends up dissing me on the 4th bar. His flow is just too clean and my boys always end up laughing at me and I desynchronize and wake up in the Animus. I need help from all the viking rap gods out there helping my Flyt game. edit: I tried getting drunk off some mead first thinking that would help my flow, but Eivor just ended up trying to hit on some shieldmaidens [link] [comments]
I hope there are a lot of different animation for Hidden Blade Assassination in Valhalla. Posted: 15 Jul 2020 07:03 AM PDT I already saw the running assassination which by the way is so cool and the other one is the double assassination, pretty much like the one in Origins but instead Eivor will throw an axe to the other target. While playing AC Odyssey, I noticed the different assassination animation of Kassandra (assassination while: standing, crouching, running, on bush, behind a wall) and they were great and at the same time brutal. Then I realized, compare to the Broken Spear of Leonidas, the Hidden Blade is more limited in movement since it is place only on one arm, wherein the Spear can be hold by hands. So I hope there are great and unique assassination for the Hidden Blade in Valhalla although I understand if there aren't many. [link] [comments]
Playing Unity for the first time and wow, the gameplay and visuals are stunning! Posted: 15 Jul 2020 06:16 AM PDT I know it had a painful launch with bugs and whatnot. I tried playing back then and stopped somewhere very close to the beginning because of these bugs. Recently bought it for PS4 because of its offer. It is 500 INR ($8 maybe?). So far, I am having a blast! It is so good. The visuals hold up. The combat is satisfying with its parry and sort of low enemy healths I guess. The story has been good so far and I have always liked Arno as a lead for some reason. If anyone has not played it yet, pick it up now! This is a good old school Assassins Creed game. I totally loved Origins (Odyssey, not so much - still a good game) and I am really looking forward to Valhalla! However, there is something about the series before these games that was truly special. SERIOUSLY BUY IT IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED IT YET. [link] [comments]
Unity and Odyssey are the two opposite extremes in the franchise. Posted: 15 Jul 2020 11:26 PM PDT Unity was the peak of Assassins creed ''old formula''. The height of parkour, stealth and being an Assassin. It was also grounded in terms of phantasy ( also the height in graphics IMO) Odyssey really focused on living the spartan phantasy ''warrior'' dream. you had conquest battles, spartan kick and fought monsters from greek mythology with your Isu powers. What also interesting is that I feel like most people who love Unity, don't like Odyssey and people who like Odyssey don't like Unity. I rarely see posts about gamers who like both. Finally beat Unity: What I liked and didnt like Posted: 15 Jul 2020 05:52 PM PDT I was a big fan of AC2 and AC4, and recently finally beat Unity. What I liked: Beautiful setting. The architecture, the interiors, the gardens, the palaces, the cathedrals, the citizens are all beautiful. Arnot is a likeable character with reasonable motivations Plentiful weapons. Lots of choices between swords, axes, maces, even pikes! Parkour running feels smooth and fluid. What I didnt like: By far, my biggest gripe is how difficult combat feels. The counter button feels slow and clunky, and I often get hit by enemies when I am surrounded. Enemies seem to swarm on you and attack faster than before. Snipers shoot you from afar before you can even notice. I liked the feeling of taking on 100 enemies in AC2 and AC4. In Unity, I died more times than I have ever. Did anybody else find combat too awkward? Even by the end of the game, I never really got skilled with combat, and died constantly. I understand the design was to try to push players towards stealth, but there should be at least some way for Arnot to fight back in case he is surrounded. Most of the accents were English, when they should be French. [link] [comments]
Can I jump into Odyssey if I'm out of touch with the series? Posted: 15 Jul 2020 08:14 PM PDT I used to be a huge Assassins Creed fan. I sunk hours into 2, 3, and 4 (I didn't reallty like 1 very much). However, I really did not like Unity or Syndicate at all and didn't bother finishing either of them. I heard Origins was a vast improvement in the series, and Odyssey furthered that. I'm considering getting Odyssey because it's super cheap during the current Ubisoft forward sale. I want to go with Odyssey over Origins because I find Greece a little more interesting than Egypt, though I'm not averse to trying Origins if Odyssey isn't bad. That being said, can I jump into Odyssey after being so out of touch with the series? I'm mostly worried about the modern.day story, which I remember getting somewhat convoluted by the time I quit the series. [link] [comments]
My problem with RPG elements is how obvious they are Posted: 15 Jul 2020 11:27 AM PDT I wanted to have AC RPG since probably the first appearance of economic system features back in AC2. Now we have it, but what grinds my gears with Origin-Odyssey-Valhalla is how unimaginative the RPG systems are in there. Those games try to be your friendly neighborhood baby RPG games a bit too hard by presenting absolutely basic RPG setup to a player. E.g. the way dialogs are presented with all of its "variety" of options is something that immediately checks all RPG cliche checkboxes and I can often imagine the content of the dialog even before I actually start it. Or take numbers game with basic content scaling - it bores me immediately, because it is not even somewhat hidden from player to make it look interesting, but always visible for some reason. As if "ASSASSIN DAMAGE" value actually means anything to a player. It is such a basic signifier of "I am an RPG, here's the stats, hurr durr", I start to groan every time I open inventory menu. Take for example two last Deus Ex games - this is something I was imagining of how an action/action-RPG may look with a set main character in the open world, but not being an obvious ar-pee-gee. It gives you options of how to behave in dialogs (instead of choosing good-bad-neutral lines) and in certain gameplay moments of choice, gives you enough agency to specify your place in this world, but never really in your face with it systems (it doesn't even show you the stats), because major gameplay is built around something that is in the core of the character - practical application of augmentations (and not a stupid numbers comparison), stealth, gadgets, social aspects, city services and other gameplay elements. Recent AC games do the opposite and give players anything but actually what this franchise was originally built around. Imagine if Adam Jensen started to mine for golden nuggets to craft his connectors in his pocket to upgrade his augmentations. It would be jarring to have something like this because not only it is out of character, but also takes away from the immersion and is a very obvious time sink. It makes me sad that Ubisoft offers me to spend quite large chunk of time in the game by literally placing rocks on top of each other or by fishing or by picking up berries or by building villages. And not only that, but also lack of any progress in design for side activities is what makes me want to forget about the franchise for the next 3-4 years. Chasing down the flying pages (feature that is 8 years old at this point) and endless chests and boxes to loot (as if Unity wasn't crucified for it, which was 6 years ago) is a great indicator of how stale this franchise have become. Feel free to deconstruct my opinion however you want. [link] [comments]
Will the AC Valhalla dodge animation be fixed for final release? Posted: 15 Jul 2020 05:50 PM PDT Cause that looks awful, it's an anime skip. Extremely arcade and nonsensical. Atleast move the foot, take note from Bloodborne or something, infact AC Origins dodge looks better. Something a little more grounded and heavier would be Awesome. [link] [comments]
Who were the original designers for Altair and Ezio's Brotherhood outfits? Posted: 15 Jul 2020 02:45 PM PDT Does anyone know? The roman robes are most likely my favorite. (Without all the armor you get in the game) Arno's outfit is perfect for its game, but I wouldn't use it anywhere else, most likely. And maybe it had different designers. [link] [comments] |
