[Spoilers?] Unity might just be the most fun AC game I have played.

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 10:26 PM PDT

I finished rogue a couple weeks ago and let me say, going from chasing 20+ shanties to unity was a huuuge upscale in gameplay. I'm on the final mission of the final sequence and this is my thoughts on unity's gameplay.

First, as everybody knows, the parkour is seriously awesome which makes exploring the game much more fun.

Imo, the Co-op missions give unity the fun edge over any other AC game, especially when the rewards can be the best items in the game. Playing with other people truly adds a different dimension to the game, since you can coordinate attacks with your teammates.

The heist missions, while they were sometimes annoying, were generally really fun and allowed me to experience the true feeling of playing as an 'assassin'.

Murder mysteries imo was another highlight of the game. Yeah, sex is cool, but have you ever solved a 5 star crime without any wrong accusations?

The bridge missions were pretty dope. Climbing the Eiffel tower was a 'woah' moment for sure.

Finally, when you had to assassinate an important figure, having side missions to aid you as well as unique kills was a really cool way of visualizing the different ways to assassinate a target.

So that's it. Is the unity the best game in the series? No, but now it's in my top 5 for sure.

Tldr: Unity was imo the most fun game to play and I've played every AC game bar syndicate

Could Eivor be the ancestor of Edward Kenway?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 10:10 PM PDT

So a lot of people think Eivor is just a copy of Edward Kenway, but fights for a bigger cause before joining the Hidden Ones. However, given some similarities, amount of time, and how close England is to Wales, could Eivor (male or female) be Edward's ancestor?

While Eivor's tale is yet to be seen, Eivor as Edward's ancestor could be one way to explain how he got the eagle vision. As for how Edward's family wouldn't know of the British Brotherhood, somewhere down the line the family could have lost its roots to the order and eventually became unaware until Edward comes around.

After all, if Kassandra can have a connection to Aya, then it can be possible. This is just my theory.

[Discussion] The good things Valhalla will bring

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 09:44 PM PDT

Okay...so the new AC game has a bunch of fans divided. I've heard a lot of people saying that what they're going to play won't be Assassin's Creed. And yeah, I can understand some aspects of what they mean like the choosing gender, dialogue and choices options that's used a lot in an RPG. We just need to know that the company is trying it's best to improve so it can give players better games.

After Odyssey and Origins, you can call them prototypes for the new line of games. Each one had different aspects the games needed to improve on. Especially after Odyssey, we can see in the demos that the creation teams definitely paid attention as to what can stay, go or be improved on.

One of the issues with Odyssey was how stealth and the hidden blade were all but gone. Granted this was BEFORE the Hidden Ones, but Valhalla has shown that a bunch of the original AC elements are returning. We can social stealth like Altair again, use the hidden blade in new ways, even raid forts with stealth. Fans screamed and Ubisoft heard, so now these elements are back for more.

Naval combat was an interesting addition to the series after AC 3, with AC Black Flags making it a bigger feature. While we can still use a boat, the "naval combat" has been downsized to just being your horse on water for river travels. Even during raids, best you can do is just block arrows since viking ships were so small compared to a Greek trireme. I'm not sure what issues would come from the river travels, but at least now naval quests won't be cluttered, and we can still listen to great songs and stories from our crew.

Speaking of our crew, it's good to know that you'll have a band of warriors able to help you on raids. I see this as a mix of AC 3's assassin call system, but more limited. I refer to it to AC 3 and not say Brotherhood or Revealations since it's hinted that Eivor has a deeper bond with them. So not entirely like saving them from the enemy or kidnapped them. These small details should be appreciated.

The home feature is something we've haven't had in a long time. Since Ezio, a lot of the main characters have had an HQ to go to. Ezio had the villa and Tiber Island, Connor inherited the Davenport Homestead, Edward obtained Grand Inagua, Arno owned the Cafe Theatre, the Frye twins won a train and after that the older gen characters were just always on the run. Valhalla will now return that feature after so long with your own settlement. The way I see it the settlement could be a mix of Connor's homestead and Edward's island, with just a bit of the Red Dead Redemption 2 camp. You'll hopefully have characters you know and interact with, helping them will help you in the long run, and as the provider, have to keep the people happy. You might not get revenue, but who knows what can come of it.

Choosing a gender in AC has been one of the more difficult topics. In Syndicate you can swap out between one of the two Frye twins as you free roamed, and in Odyssey can tell the Greek epic as either Kassandra or Alexios, but ultimately Kassandra being the canonical gender for the story. In Valhalla it appears that the player can switch the gender identity of Eivor at anytime. I'm not sure why since the directors said it's a mystery and surprise gamers will have to figure for themselves as they play. I just hope it's nothing like Alex Fierro from Magnus Chase in terms of a shapeshifter. Shouldn't players be a bit happy with this because the game is giving fans more freedom?

While I will miss playing fleshed out characters like Edward Kenway, Ezio, and Beyak, there's only so many kinds of characters the team can make without them becoming repetitive. What the game now is trying to do is let the players become that person who interacted with historical figures, giving them the freedom to choose and make decisions. So in a way, they're able to let the player interact with the past how they want instead of the character themselves. As long as it doesn't effect the main story and only side ones, I'd say it'd be an interesting change of pace.

There's also talk of not doing modern day gameplay. This I can understand since the modern day story has sort of died after Desmond sacrificed himself and you or Layla haven't been a good substitute. From what can be understood, any sort of modern day involvement will be similar to Unity, working inside the Animus. If by any chance we do take a break from the viking adventure, let's hope it's just a cutscene.

The series has gotten a lot of dislike from fans because it's not a real AC game. If you feel that way than just replay the old games if you have them, but please try to understand that games change over time. God of War, for example, was best known for certain actions and fighting styles, same for Assassin's Creed, yet the series took it's big change in the 2018 addition. The new game added a bunch of new changes that surprised fans, but still kept what made it good to begin with. The AC series has been doing the same, even during the more classic times. The point of a game is to add new ideas and elements for the sake of the player's entertainment, to keep them invested and see if it works well. After all, some things like eavesdropping have been dropped.

It's clear Valhalla is trying to please both types of fans of the game series. From those who want to be a female Assassin/Hidden One, to those who want more stealth options. It's not easy making a video game, or keeping the fans happy, while also trying to keep them entertained. We still have time before the official launch of the game, so hopefully the changes needed will be made in time. The demos were just a work in progress, let's not judge until the product is finished.

    100% Historically Appropiate Female Assassin

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 11:20 AM PDT

    Fuedal Japan:

1: Women were taught to fight to defend the home.

2: There were weapons designed specifically for women.

3: There's been at least one historical female samurai. Not that samurai is the role I'd suggest.

4: Assassin's and spies (ninja) could be either gender. Which being as this is Assassin's creed is the role I would suggest.

5: We've seen fuedal Japan from the eyes of male samurai and ninja in every damn game and movie for like ever. This would be something new, a nice change of pace.

Favorite Stories of In-Game Fights You Started? (Any Game)

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 06:24 PM PDT

Not related to Valhalla, but I was just thinking about my time playing AC: Revelations (an underrated game btw) and how I would call all of my maxed out assassins into the middle of the janissary camp and just enjoy the carnage. Does anybody have any interesting stories about battles they started between factions where they got to watch really cool combat? What were your favorite match-ups?

Just finished AC3 and now starting Origins

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 11:06 PM PDT

I am very new to Assassin's Creed in a way. About five years ago, I saw my brother playing AC3 and wanted to give it a try because I thought it was interesting that it was set in the USA's colonial times. I played it and LOVED it. I just got the remastered version and loved it as well. I thought the story, stealth, characters were great. I especially liked the homestead missions and assassin's guild (thought it was a cool feature). I didn't go for full synchronization, but did many things like sell items and did all the boat missions. I came here to see what people thought and turns out everyone hates it? I'm honestly shocked.

Anyway, I just started playing Origins today, and though I'm liking it so far, I think combat was better in AC3. Could be because it was easier for me. Here, I can't even face 3 opponents at the same time because of the difficulty and I feel the game is just so much more confrontational, when in AC3 most of the time the whole point was to kill people without being seen at all.

Are most AC games like Origins now? Controls feel a little complicated at times and using an eagle to find everything is a bit annoying.

finally finished the series today so thought i should compile my thoughts

top 5 in no order: black flag, origins, ezio trilogy

    least fav: 3

    unity: over hated

    rogue: under appreciated

    syndicated: decent

AC 1 in my opinion, while having a dull gameplay loop, was the perfect introduction to the series

odyssey: i actually enjoyed the game but it should not have been AC

shift to rpg: it was needed imo. im not trying to sound cool but combat before genuinely felt a little to easy and stale. i do hate the level gating tho, but looks like they have fixed it for valhalla so im excited

ezios family: perfect AC theme. the brotherhood becomes ezios family, and for each protagonist to have their variation helps distinguish the different sides of the brotherhood

valhalla: everything from the production team to the trailers looks promising and it could be the revival if the series

favorite line: no books, no wisdom, just you fratello mio

least fav line: i make my own luck

    overall: amazing series

What needs to happen in the next revamp of the franchise.

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 07:10 AM PDT

So after three games the franchise usually goes through a massive revamp. Valhalla looks very promising and looks like it's going to be full of lore. Hopefully it won't be a shit mess like Odyssey. But seriously a revamp is needed that can satisfy the new people and us older players. So I made a list of things we need and don't need in the revamp. This is my opinion so drop your opinion in the comments.

    1. An actual Assassin's Creed game. I miss the Assassin and Templar conflict. Those memories I made were amazing. Orgins get's an exception since it shows the beginning of the brotherhood with the Hidden Ones. Just saying Origins is my favorite AC game. Anyways. Odyssey had nothing to do with the Hidden ones and basiclly broke the lore and shouldn't have been an AC game. As for Valhalla I think I read that it's right around the time the Hidden Ones change to the Assassin's. I think but I'm not sure. The Assassin and Templar conflict helped made this series popular and the battle between the two groups is a core part of the franchise. So the next game needs to be during the time where the Assassin's and Templars are the main groups. Not the Order of the ancients or the Hidden Ones.
    2. A linear story. This is going to make people mad for sure. The choices need to be dropped. The reason why I got so connected with Ezio, Bayek and Edward is because they have an actual story and in their games they don't have stupid wacky decisions. As for Kassandra and Alexios they are just shit overall. As for Eivor I'm not going to say anything until I play the game. In the past games the stories had an impact and were well made. With these decisions it's all over the place and you never know which one is the actual part of the story. So a linear story is a must.
    3. Get rid of gender options. It's so ridiculous and I couldn't get connected with Kassandra knowing Alexios was around even though she was canon. What's even more fucking confusing is the male and female Eivor being canon. I want to get connected to a single protagonist. I want a female protagonist but according to Ubisoft "Games with women leads won't sell". Honestly we'll see what happens. I so hope they get rid of gender options.

I'm sure their are more things I'll drop in the comments but these are the biggest things that I want in a revamp.

AC syndicate missed an opportunity with the hidden blades

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 06:05 PM PDT

    Assassin's creed syndicate missed opportunity.

I know syndicate isnt talked about that much anymore, but as a fanboy of the older style of AC games, i couldn't help but notice a sad opportunity that was missed out in syndicate.

So I get it: you're in a massive industrial city, in a "modern" setting- whipping out a fat ass halberd or sword or warhammer in the streets of london would be a bit ludicrous. So they've given us more "concealed" weapons: khukuris, cane-swords etc- but literally, the most iconic weapon of the franchise- the hidden blade- is barely used in combat! I mean it's perfect; it's the most concealed weapon you have, and extremely lethal, and bad ass (remember how connor would use the blades in AC3??). The hidden blades are used in finishing animations- but i think it would've been incredible to use them as their own individual weapons in combat. I reckon you would've been able to go through the entire game just using hidden blades, or even better mixing a hidden blade with a khukuri or a cane-sword.

Gutted that it is highly unlikely we wont ever be able to use the hidden blades properly in future AC games, especially considering we're playing more RPG fantastic-like iterations of the franchise :/

Imagine if the Unity launch had gone swimmingly and was well received.

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 01:38 PM PDT

By this time we may well have the tightest iteration of that parkour system and most refined combat and stealth systems of that nature. Replaying Unity off the disk on XboneX at near 60 with its 1.1 architecture and pure scale and grandiose just makes me see the game in a way I've never been able to see if before. I'm not the first and wont be the last to say it but it truly was ahead of it's time and it's a shame that everything went so wrong for them because even with its flaws if that style of game hadn't fallen out of favour at this point we may well have had a game with the best version of all those game systems.

How is Achilles even alive in ac 3 ???

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 10:08 AM PDT

He got shot in the knee in AC rogue and stranded on an iceberg, surely an infection(or gangrene) would have killed him in those times, how does he still walk in AC 3 ?

Where was Shay during AC3? SPOILERS

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 03:41 PM PDT

On The AC Wiki, it said that Shay spent the next 16 years hunting for the precursor artifacts after killing Liam. But if you add up the time between Liam's death and Achilles death it's 21 years. But we know that Shay trained both his son and grandson, but I would think that he would might try and hunt down Connor for killing Haytham. So where was he?

Assassins Creed Odyssey cutscenes look kinda weird?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 07:48 AM PDT

So I just started to play AC Odyssey because I got it for very cheap last week when Ubisoft had that huge sale. I absolutely love it so far but, does anyone else think the cutscenes/convos look weird? Like the facial expressions and the way the mouths move on the characters. The hand movements and stuff look kind of weird too imo. Anyone else think this or am I just crazy? I've tried googling about this but I can't anyone else talking about it. To me they just look awkward. It's not really taking much away from the game for me because I absolutely love it. The gameplay is incredible.

Just finished AC Odyssey and the Cult of Kosmos suck

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 04:10 AM PDT

I recently finished AC Odyssey, and I have to say that the Cult was the worst part of the game for me (not counting the annoying mercenaries that appear out of nowhere and ruin everything). We went from the Order of Ancients from AC origins, which were amazing, and each kill gave us an amazing cutscene tying them back to Bayek, to unlocking random NPCs with no backstory other than a little paragraph. And some of them require you to do a chain of side quests to reveal them.

They were just boring villains who felt like normal enemies to kill.

Is there the possibility that the events in AC Rogue are made "family friendly" from Abstergo just like they did in AC Liberation?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2020 11:22 AM PDT

Just to know about what you think about that. It could make sense if you think that maybe Abstergo let the A. worker use the "censored" version to explore Shay's memories, but idk. I thought about that becouse I'm replaying Rogue and the templars in this game seems way too much the good guys
