I painted a Viking mead hall--I'm getting hyped for this game!

My wife and I may be a little too excited about Valhalla.

My wife makes custom Christmas ornaments. This was her contribution to my AC collection.

Trying to earn 100% in this game is refreshing and doesn't feel rushed.

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 08:15 PM PST

So just like the other person, I too, have early access to the game and I agree, everything in this game just makes sense. I can't give my actual review yet due to embargo (which ends Monday) but this is unlike anything I've ever played in an Assassins Creed game before.

I cannot wait to see your reactions to this game and I really wish I could say more but UGHHHHH I can't! I'm also not an employee of Ubisoft but I am a game reviewer.

Everything in Valhalla feels NECESSARY. I'm not actually going to spoil anything but due to rules [Spoiler]

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 01:52 AM PST

About 12 hours in now and everything is so refreshingly necessary. The items you collect, the missions you embark on, the time you spend in areas, none of it feels aimless or misguided. Everything is contributing toward your progress and from what I know nothing is missable as it's required for 100%. Honestly, I love knowing I can just enjoy the game and not fear about missing anything, but know whatever I pick up is necessary.

Edit: thanks for all of your spoiler free questions! I think it's important you all get to experience it fresh like I did for the first time, so I'm glad we've kept this thread that way. If I could make one request, please continue to keep it spoiler free when the game releases and be respectful of your fellow AC fan as they journey to Valhalla :)

Edit 2: A Letter? For me? Getting tonnes of questions and happy to answer them all tomorrow, but this guy needs some rest! Thank you everyone for your questions and respecting the no spoiler rule so far!

Edit 3: I'm back! A few people have suggested I'm a Ubisoft employee, but sadly (cries in COVID unemployment) I'm not. I can't really see why a company would answer specific questions several days before release on Reddit, but I guess the spoiler-free logic makes sense. I just am very anti-spoilers and very protective of everyone who is yet to play!

Assassin's Creed timeline: The complete Assassin's Creed story so far

So, is England going to be summer and Norway winter?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 04:00 PM PST

I was watching some gameplay streams of Valhalla, and saw that in England it is summer but in Norway it is winter and snowing. This doesn't seem to make sense since England and Norway have the same time zone and is just one hour apart in time-zones. As a Norwegian it disappointed me a bit. Do seasons change as well in the game?

(Love the English Norwegian accents that Norwegians have in the game though lol)

    We need another Rogue (Spoilers)

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 03:00 PM PST

I just replayed Rogue and wow, I am so sad that it was released in Unity's shadow because this game is great and far too many people slept on it. We need more AC games from the perspective of a Templar.

It's no secret but it is an understatement to say that Ubisoft isn't the best at creating good villains. They're usually corny and the mustache-twirling sort of villains. Achilles was a really good villain because they couldn't make him fully bad as this would have clashed with our previous assessments of him as a good guy in AC3.

Long story short, Rogue is a refreshing take on the series that feels very much like Black Flag only colder and with a good storyline. If you're reading this Ubisoft, please please please give us more of this!

What are your favorite and/or least favorite outfits in the series?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 08:18 PM PST

Let's talk about our favorite outfits while we wait for Valhalla! And not just the canonical "default" outfits either, any outfit from any game is up on the block. The only loose exception would be legacy outfits since its a given they won't fit in with whatever setting they are clashing against. It can be for whatever reason too, stats, bugs and clipping, how much it dosen't fit in the world, how disappointing it was when you finally got it after spending hours getting the collectables to unlock it (looking at you captain kidd outfit), etc. And if you what to balance the negativie with a positive go ahead and list your favorites! :D

For me I think the worst outfit out of every game goes to the "Templar Stealth outfit" from ac rouge. With a name like that it could have been awesome but instead it has a hideously out of place and anachronistic modern urban/snow camo, like Shay just walked out of a MW lobby, huge missed opportunity. The assassin killer outfit makes up for it though, but it is dlc.

Another weak one is bayak's default outfit. I dunno, it just looks too, loose. And it dosent really fit with the overall look in the game, sorta suffering from the Ezio problem. Like with rogue though the hidden ones outfit is phenomenal, so much so that i straight up use a cheat engine script to give it to myself right from the beginning on all my subsequent playthroughs.

Also gotta rip into black flags a little. Its not very pirate-y and the excessive leather armor bits just makes it look super hot, heavy, and impractical for sailing the high seas in

Some outfits I like though, to balance things.

I really love is Arno's default outfit. Despite unity not being my favorite in the series I do love the simplicity of this outfit, it just look so sleek and clean. It is frustrating though because this is Unity and the stats system makes really hard to actually use the outfit.

Another great one is the Persian prince outfit (and it red and white recolour) from origins. Despite mentioning the hidden ones outfit above, this outfit is the one I use for pretty much my whole playthrough. I camt quite describe why I like it so much, it just looks so good.

My absolute favorite though goes to Ezio's revelations outfit. Love everything about it, the fur, the scarf, its grey and dark red colour, how it really shows how much experience ezio has gained over the years.

Edit: quick re-upload because of an infuriating typo in the last posts title. Sorry to the couple of people who responded.

Another Setting Idea for Assassin's Creed - The German Unification (1864 - 1871)

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 08:17 PM PST

Another Setting Idea for Assassin's Creed - The German Unification (1864 - 1871)

From the occupation of Schleswig-Holstein to the Fall of Paris, the Kingdom of Prussia was successful in what hadn't been achieved since the collapse of the Carolingian Empire; a United Germany. Historical figures like Otto von Bismarck, Wilhelm I, and Helmuth von Moltke helped to mold what we know today as modern Germany, and the unification of the German States under the Hohenzollerns would leave a lasting impact on the modern world. Such a rapid advance toward the birth of the German Empire would be perfect for a new Assassin's Creed game.

    Hypothetical Logo

    The Timeline

Following France's defeat in the Napoleonic Wars, the now dissolved Holy Roman Empire was replaced with the German Confederation, primarily led by the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia. However, the following Spring of Nations in 1848 and political shifts in Europe would lead to hostilities between the Hapsburgs and Hohenzollerns.

When Otto von Bismarck stepped into the frame of German politics, his main goal was to unite the other German states into a empire supervised by the Prussian monarchy and aristocracy, and his first step was to provoke a war against the Kingdom of Denmark in 1864. Austria would join Prussia in the conflict, and in the same year, Denmark would loose the war. Austria received Holstein as Prussia took over Schleswig.

Bismarck's next step toward German unification was to provoke a war against Austria to crush their sphere of influence in Southern Germany. In 1866, war broke out and the Austrians were decisively defeated, loosing Holstein following the war's conclusion. Around this time, the North German Confederation was formed, and the southern states were now under Prussian influence.

Bismarck's final plan for German unification was to start a war between the Prussia and the French Empire, ruled by Napoleon III. Through clever espionage and deceptive tactics, Prussia provoked France into declaring war, kick-starting the infamous Franco-Prussian War. Although the French forces were superior in number, the Prussians were advanced in military strategy, and had recently prioritized the use of trains to easily transport troops and orders.

By 1871, Paris had fallen, Napoleon III was captured, and the French Empire had effectively collapsed. Soon, the southern German States joined the confederation following the victory against the French, and Prussia annexed Alsace-Lorraine. And finally, at Versailles in 1871, the German Empire was proclaimed, with Wilhelm I as its new kaiser.

    The Game World and Lore

This new game would primarily take place in Berlin, Vienna, and Paris, and it would be the German Brotherhood of Assassins against the Austrian and French Templars. Perhaps the game would adopt AC Unity's parkour mechanics and see a return to Syndicate's grapple guns and combat.

As for the basic lore, the Assassins would aid the Hohenzollerns in their endeavor for the Unification of Germany and weaken the Austrian and French Empires, both of which were under Templar control. Between 1864 and 1871, the Assassins covertly sabotage the Templar Order's efforts in France and Austria while slowly helping the French and Austrian Brotherhoods to make a comeback against their enemies.

The Assassins would work together with figures like Otto von Bismarck, Helmuth von Moltke, Crown Prince Frederick III, and so many others while fighting against Napoleon III and members of the Hapsburg Dynasty.

I hope you enjoyed reading this exploration into a potential Assassin's Creed game set during Prussia's transformation into the German Empire!

I've never been so hyped for a new AC game before!

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 04:12 PM PST

I need to say this first : Unity was my first "real" AC, I didn't play anything for more than 1 hour before Unity. Right now, and since a few months, I'm playing Odyssey and I really like it.

So, Valhalla, I didn't look at any gameplay because I don't want to spoil myself and I'm thinking about getting it. The Viking theme couldn't hype me more and I'm sure there's a lot of dope things in the game. I've quickly read that it's a really good mix of the good things in Origins and Odyssey with additions of good mechanics and other stuff. I'm from Quebec City and seeing a game from Montreal come out and be such a big thing is simply amazing. I'm proud of my province!

Here's my problem : new games are expensive. And right now I don't have the money to buy ACV, so I guess I'll simply wait for sales or something, I'm not writing this to be given the game, obviously. I'm just saying the game seems reallyyyy cool but I can't enjoy it.

Thanks for reading! And share your opinions on it! (NO SPOILERS)

You really don't have to worry a lot for power level in AC Valhalla.

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 07:32 AM PST

So I saw a guy named Vadact on YT doing a raid with power level 41 doing a raid in a place with power level 250. Then later on he did a raid in a location in Wessex with power level 340(the highest power level in the game). He was successful in both the raids.

So what he basically did was he kept hitting enemies on their weak glowing points and they got stunned and then did a finisher on everyone he found except for some.

But yeah whenever he got hit it would take more than half of his health or almost all of the health in Wessex.

So it really is possible, if you don't want to grind you don't.

The game seems a bit awkward with preview videos?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2020 12:04 AM PST

I've been watching radbrad on yt and I can't help but think that although most of the game seems amazing (especially the start) the actual lip sync seems just as if not more awkward than Odyssey's did? On top of that the main reason that's holding me back from a preorder is the drop assassinations. At least in Odyssey when you drop assassinate an npc there's some life to it? It's just silent as hell and the actual transition of it seems almost clunky.

Took me a month to finish Unity, but I finally did. Really loved that game.

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 12:14 PM PST

First AC game I've played through (outside of the first one for about an hour ages ago) was Odyssey. I was always more into multiplayer shooters for most of my life starting back in Quake 2 and pretty much spending my childhood on Counter-Strike 1.5 & 1.6, I didn't really spend any time playing any AC games. I loved Odyssey so much when I played through that when I tried going back and playing the first, it just didn't feel great and I couldn't continue.

Lately, I've been working a ton so I haven't had time to play any games but I figured I'd go off the recommendation of a friend and try Unity since he urged me to. After 3+ weeks, I finally finished the game including Dead Kings DLC and man I fell in love with it.

I was really hoping Valhalla would be like Odyssey, but now I hope it has some features that original AC games have. Nothing felt better than being rewarded for being stealthy than the instant assassinations. I spent a lot of time in Unity just running around figuring out the best way to handle a mission and the rest of my time adjusting plans when things didn't work out, and I loved that about it. In Odyssey, I pretty much fought my way through the game which was super fun too, I loved the combat. I'm really hoping a mix between the 2 is possible.

Thinking of going back and playing Syndicate through since I started it and never finished. Just feel like it may be hard since the combat feels funny compared to Unity. Can't pin exactly how, but it just doesn't feel right. Maybe I got too used to the weighty swords in Unity? What's everyone recommend since I've got some free time now before Valhalla?

I can't enjoy Syndicate after playing Odyssey and Origins

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 11:19 AM PST

Anyone else feel this way? I'm into the story of Syndicate but the movement is just horrible, at least in comparison to the two most recent games. In syndicate there's things I can't get the character to climb on, jumping off something requires multiple tries, stealth attempts get ruined by these issues and kills the whole joy from this game.

I've been playing AC since a child and this is my perspective

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 01:32 PM PST

Currently, I'm 15 and I still play assassin's creed actively. To be honest, I didn't really feel like getting into this saga at first because I had only seen some wrongly played assassin's creed II gameplay from my brother, who was 11 at the time and really didn't understand the basic dynamics and controls of the game. What really got me into the saga was assassin's creed unity, which doesn't automatically mean I don't see all the bugs and imperfections palpable within the first minutes of the gameplay, but still was a game that hit me with those awesome graphics (when a visual bug wasn't showing on screen) and I'll also attribute this love I had with Unity to the hidden blade. Yeah, I know It had been a thing for a while, but for me, the first contact with this blade was with unity and I sure loved it. I can recall playing around with a pencil under my sleeve pretending to be Arno at school (pretending to stab my friends, of course). After this first contact with the assassins, I played assassins creed II to see if it was as bad as I remembered, and well... I'll say it's my favourite AC to this day (I'll say that trying to enjoy AC with a bad player controlling a supposedly skilled assassin is hard)

This is an introduction of who I am and I plan to stay in this Reddit page for a while. Hope you guys welcome me!

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 11:40 PM PST

So i know you can find Ragnar's sons in valhalla but do you actually see him? I thought that maybe there were gonna be some flashbacks told by Ragnar's sons similar to that of king Leonidas in odyssey showing his death or something,so is there anything i mentioned in the game?

P.S don't spoil me too much if there is, I'd prefer yes or no for an answer!.

AC Syndicate CAN be played on PS5, but with some big visual buggs.

    Posted: 07 Nov 2020 07:12 AM PST

Like the title says, there's an article comparing some games running on ps4 pro and ps5, and Syndicate is one of them.

Syndicated can run on ps5, but the visual buggs makes it almost unplayable.
