Odyssey: SPOILER should be playable once the story is done

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 03:53 AM PDT

Either you play Kassandra or Alexios, the other will turn up live and brainwashed as a cult sub-leader. At the end of the main story, the player may finally turn him/her back the good side and make him/her forgive for what happened on Mount Taigetos, and be reunited with the family.

At this point, the game offers new game+

I would like to suggest, given that both characters are playable and whichever you did NOT choose won't play a part in the stories left for you to discover, it would be amazing to be given the ability to freely switch between them at any point, much like how Ghost Recon Wildlands and Breakpoint allow character customization and gender change at any point.

Edit: on second thought, after the epilogue missions where we say goodbye to sidecharacters.

I completed my first Assassin’s Creed Game today!

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 11:43 PM PDT

I was waiting for the right time to get into the franchise and with the quarantine I figured I'd start playing all the Assassins Creed games. I just got the platinum for Assassin's Creed II and I really loved it! I hope to move onto Brotherhood soon. I can't wait to see where the story will go with Desmond, and see the end of Ezio's experience.

Don't hold out hope for a Roman, Medieval or a plethora of other interesting settings anytime soon.

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 08:24 PM PDT

This isn't the AC we started with. Evolution of a franchise is good, but its clear ubisoft have gone a bit too far to the point where the AC principles are being pushed to the wayside in favor of something more warrior/gladiator like. Which is why we got Egypt, Ancient Greece and now the rumored Vikings. They wanna tap into the mythology and explore all the legends and mythos surrounding those settings. Why? Because its epic and thats what AC is focusing on now. Epic battles with mythical creatures and figures, upgrading your armor and weapons to fight even more of these legends. As well as fighting your way through hoards of enemies wielding giant clubs and axes etc. And by focusing on this new RPG warrior direction, they can advertise these weapon/outfit packs to buy with micro transactions.

Its clear that Ubisoft dont want to make another grounded AC anymore. The roman empire at the height of its power. Imagine running around Rome with a unity like parkour system. Or something more gritty and dark like a middle ages setting. Focusing on stealth and actually feeling like you're apart of history. All of that isn't a lucrative opportunity for Ubisoft anymore unfortunate.

So people shouldn't get their hopes up anytime soon for a more traditional AC game. I am sure in time people will get bored of this new direction and they'll go back to focusing on parkour, stealth and history by advertising a game which "goes back to AC's roots". But thats not gonna be for a while I assume.

I am really upset. First of all I dint want it to end at all. Then, the ending itself got me. I know Templars will eventually end up dead but Élise..I couldn't accept.

A Vikings instalment could mean the end of the stealth focus

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 05:59 PM PDT

When I heard the next AC. will feature vikings I was deeply disappointed . From Odyssey the story and setting suggest a much more combat approach in comparison with older titles that inspired stealth. Let me explain this with examples . Sunny Greece , with tails of heroes and beasts and the brutal Vikings set the mood for a more open combat game . In comparison, cloudy victorian London , renaissance Italy or the French Revolution serve as a proper setting for assassinations . I feel like AC is trying to become a Witcher style RPG , giving up on the mechanics and gameplay that made it special in the first place .

Why did Jack become Jack the Ripper? [Analysis/Theory]

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 12:46 PM PDT

So with Syndicate being available for free a couple of weeks back and the sale now available, I just finished playing Jack the Ripper DLC and really liked it. I just didn't really understand why Jack became the Ripper. So I watched this video on YouTube which had some helpful stuff, but I still have some questions.

    Jack's background/timeline -- according to Fizhy's video.

    • ???? - Born and raised in Whitechapel. Mother killed by Starrick's Templars.
    • 1868, liberated from Lambeth after Starrick was killed by Jacob.
    • 1873, Jack and Jacob go to India and learn the fear tactics.
    • ???? - Jack begins to gets radical view of the Assassin's creed and makes his own. At some point he overtakes the Rooks.
    • ???? - Jacob sends assassin initiates after him (where does this come from? I didn't get this message at all from playing them game. Was it from Helix glitches or something?)
    • 1888 - Autumn of Terror; Evie comes in; DLC event ensues.

I think the judgement of Jacob in the video, and ultimately 'why Jack became The Ripper' explanation was a little unfair: ie. the Ripper caused by taking in a twisted boy from Lambeth and teaching him the Assassin skills. I mean is this true? Yes, probably.

But in defense of Jacob: Jack was probably a very charming boy, especially to Jacob. We learned early on that Evie thought that "Jack the lad" was "reckless and roguish, much like my brother."

I believe that either Jack was sociopathic and mirrored Jacob intentionally, or that the traits 'reckless and roguish' were early signs of him lashing out as a boy -- which happened to be much like Jacob when he was young, and Jacob condoned that to a certain degree because he thought he understood the boy. And to be fair, this was probably much more helpful to Jack than repressing him and trying to get him to be prim and proper. (In fact, if Jack had been Evie's student/protege and turned out the same, we would have said that Evie was too cool and unfeeling of the boy and forced him to be bookish like her, which made everything worse.)

Anyway, one way or another, we know Jack got trained as an Assassin, but there was probably a few good reasons why it happened. Perhaps Jacob wasn't certain about getting Jack trained as an Assassin either, but was so charmed by the boy (who may or may not have been bullied, but certainly had an Assassin-dad-figure and was probably a target of the Templars) there was 'no harm' in teaching him a few 'defense tactics', which escalated from there, etc. Plus I am sure Jack begged Jacob to teach him (having a proclivity towards violence) and proved to be a very gifted student.

Sidenote to show that Jacob really cared about Jack: some people have defended why Jacob was 'taken down' by Jack so easily already. Jacob probably really cared about the boy (well, man now) and was compassionate. Not to mention Jack is unkillable/extremely tough from the front, as the boss fight shows, and is much younger than Jacob. And also has the killer instinct that Jacob does not have -- I mean Jacob still wants to 'fix' Jack. ("Jack we can fix you!")

In other words, this criticism of Jacob was probably only fair in retrospect after Jack turned into The Ripper.

So basically: * Jacob probably really cared about Jack. Saw similarities between them. * Jack was probably charming (in a Jacob like way) + asked to be trained / had a good reason to be trained + had a talent for the Assassin techniques.

Overall, I'm not satisfied with saying Jack became The Ripper because Jacob trained him. This is true but it doesn't really answer why.

And this is why I'm confused: throughout the game, it wasn't really clear to me why Jack turned. The confirmed facts I got on my playthrough were:

    1. Jack's mother was killed by Starrick's Templars.
    2. Jack goes to Lambeth and gets tortured by the doctors and nurses. Sees terrible inhuman experiments happen to people, like getting your brain drilled into like that Templar mission in the main game. As the Fizhy video suggests, he was probably admitted because he was already a bit twisted/unhinged. And then the experience only makes him moreso.
    3. He gets 'saved' and given a second chance by Jacob. And as far as I know, he genuinely did not resent Jacob at this point in time. It's very clear throughout the game he thought Jacob betrays him. (Flashes of "Betrayer" in the introduction scene, and also the dialogue where he tells Evie he "learned from the best... until he [Jacob] betrayed me.") I.e. at some point, he thought he and Jacob were on the same team and thought that Jacob betrayed him.
    4. Learns Fear tactics in India.
    5. For some reason, while in London, becomes The Ripper. Becomes frustrated with Jacob's methods. He creates 'his own creed'.

I was really looking forward to the story telling me why Jack thought Jacob betrayed him. This didn't really happen. So here are my thoughts:

Could it be because he didn't know his mother was killed because of the Templar/Assassin conflict until afterwards when he was older and returned to London from India?

And that leads to the whole rabbit hole on why he thought Jacob's creed was useless ("Your creed failed them, as it failed my mother." "What kind of creed cannot protect its own?")

It's clear that in the 'memory' of his mother's death mission, that there was an echo saying "Go to Jacob! Run Jack!" which indicates his mother and Jack did not, at least, meet Jacob for the first time when his mother was dying. For one thing the mother would have to know that Jacob was someone who could protect Jack, and that Jack knew that Jacob existed. It does not, however, prove the young boy knew about the whole Assassins v. Templar thing. Or that his mother was a part of it, as she was very likely an Assassin as well. Which would seal the deal on why Jack thinks the Assassin's creed is useless.

Maybe he thought that after India, he saw the use of Fear in accelerating the destruction of the Templars (which we gather he did kill in the Lady O mission. When you kill Lady O, there's a photo which shows crossed out Templar faces), and Jacob didn't agree with his methods. And tried to stop him, which Jack took as a betrayal. This was also reinforced when you kill the Warder and he says "This was your brother's vision... his inspiration! He taught Jack how to rip the filth from this rotten city! But you don't have the balls to see what is right and necessary!"

(I also thought it was interesting that Jack has a desynchronization message "Jack did not compromise his plans by killing random civilians." Probably because game has limits and wants to FOCUS damn it, but also.. it would go with the lore/story that Jack had a twisted creed/code he followed by.)

I also was curious why he specifically mutilated the bodies of the prostitute-Assassins (or 'Dollies' as Nellie calls them). I believe it may be possible that his own mother was one of these Dolly-Assassins. The game portrays it as Jack is doing it to "get to" Jacob, and he clearly derives some sort of pleasure in doing it.

But if that were the case, why doesn't he mutilate every goddamn person that displeases him, to that level of depravity? Clearly with the Deptford prison hulk mission he was trying to get the Warder to get to that level of depravity, but he specifically targets the Dolly-Assassins for his own personal handiwork.

It would make sense also, because he was from Whitechapel, and he specifically targeted these women. As far as we know, he has no father (which would make sense for the son of a prostitute, unfortunately). I'm not sure how the serial killer mind works, but maybe as angry as he was at the Templars for killing his mother (which makes a lot more sense to me to be fcking honest), he thought it was Jacob's fault for not being able to protect his mother, for feeding her the Creed that killed her in the first place (in his mind). And he hated these women who were still allowed to be alive and still believe Jacob's creed (he never says this, but sort of like a 'stupid whore! You should die worse than how my mother died as punishment!' sort of thing).

In this state of mind, it may be easier for him to think Jacob was a coward (as proved in the first introduction where you play as him and the word 'Coward' flashes by the screen) and also to blame that he was put to Lambeth (failed to protect his mother, and failed to protect him). Some messages which support that:

    • "Where was he when they dragged me to the madhouse? What kind of creed cannot protect its own?... A dead creed, that's what."
    • "Jacob freed me from the madhouse, riddled by guild... He saw something in me and made me 'Assassin'. But I grew, grew to see his weakness and knew what I had to do."

-> Above quotes from the Mother of All Crimes mission where you fight his fear bomb.

    ---

Anyway, that's my wall of text. Suffice to say this DLC was something I really enjoyed. I've read people comments saying they 'only enjoyed the DLC when they were playing Jack' which is sort of chilling (like... ok.... are you alright guys...). Personally, it was very chilling in the beginning with his slow, heavy menacing feel as he hunted down Jacob, but by the time where you control him in the prison hulk mission, I really hated him. I hated his violence and his 'heavy' tank-like, but godawful invincible feeling (I never felt like the police would be able to overpower me, not even once.)

Which to me is a sign of pretty great villain.

I also felt uneasy seeing Evie's descent into frustration and anger. It was very chilling to me that you defeat Jack using his brutal killing methods while Evie was screaming "YOU WILL NOT MAKE A MONSTER OF ME!" (And only in retrospect, it may seem like Jack is right, that they are the same. BUT, as we know about choices, it's the choices that we make that decide who we are. Evie is not an angel, she used extremely brutal methods to take down Jack. She asks Frederick Abberline to hide the truth about Jack. But she also helped a bunch of people (main game and the DLC's side missions, if you did them).

Ultimately, if it was Jack's challenge to "test your creed against mine", Evie rose and met the challenge. Maybe there's no right or wrong, but what we know as the 'right' Creed won.

    --

I won't go too much into what a milestone I thought this game was personally because Evie was an older woman (I literally don't think I've ever played as a woman past 25 in video games), and the subject of prostitution was handled with respect (sex workers aren't seen as degenerates, and they're not casted as 'poor angels in need of saving from their whorish ways'). You do save them from humiliation and harm, but you don't shame them for being a prostitute (which the game repeatedly emphasizes it's literally because it's not like they're rolling in choices there. Times are fucking tough.)

I mean. Definitely worth the couple of dollars I paid for it.

Setting: How has medieval Europe not been done?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 07:58 AM PDT

The first AC had some of the best cities and setting imo. The medieval age seems like a natural setting for these games with great architecture, weaponry, and assassin skills. It seems insane to me that we don't have a medieval game based in the Holy Roman Empire. It literally seems perfect for the franchise.

Feudal Japan would also be amazing, but I understand Ubi has no historical city data on the area compared to Europe, and they have said that's a factor.

Am I crazy for thinking there needs to be a medieval setting? Only sad part is now it'll probably be RPG based where you can play as a knight if you want...

Ezio Armor Set's weird disappearing collar

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 06:32 PM PDT

I really like the Ezio Armor set just introduced in Odyssey, as it has a cool gameplay feature with refreshing Hero Strike, but WHY did they decide to have the collared part attached to the hood instead of the chestpiece? Now, any time the hood disappears during dialogue, the collar area vanishes too, leaving a weird, smaller collar behind.

Is there too much to do in Odyssey?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 08:21 PM PDT

So I was a huge fan of the open worlds since Assassins Creed 3 (especially Black Flag and Rogue). The recent games, especially Odyssey, (mythical creatures, the cultists, locations, etc) have soo much. My question is, Do you think there's such a thing as too much?

Which is the correct translation of The Creed from the Ezio series?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 07:05 PM PDT

    Okay! So odd question,

For many, many years, I have used the motto 'Niente é vero. Tutto é permesso' (Nothing is true. Everything is permitted) - Today I went to watch some Ezio videos. But I noticed he said 'Nulla é reale. Tutto é lecito' not the way I said. And further research, I found nothing about the one I thought it was. Apart from fan art.

So is it Nulla é reale. Tutto é lecito and I've just been remembering wrong with niente é vero. Tutto é permesso?

Starting to bug me now. 😂

    Origins combat vs Odyssey

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 08:27 AM PDT

I'm about two hours into Odyssey and I definitely prefer Origins' combat. Odyssey's doesn't feel like it has any weight to the hit. Origins felt like you were really messing somebody up and the hits felt strong. Not a fan of the color coding when and enemy does a heavy either. Feels more video gamey than Origins. I also loved the shield in Origins and didn't realize Odyssey got rid of that (my fault for not paying attention at launch). Just wanted to share my opinion and see if anyone felt the same.

Odyssey with no HUD and no map markers is a really special experience

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 07:11 AM PDT

So I'm only about 5 hours in so this is very liable to change, but I've been enjoying the absolute hell out of the game in exploration mode with all hud elements except enemy health and a few others disabled. Mostly because the game looks gorgeous and clutter-free, but also because you have to actually explore and find your own way to markers based on locations given to you- I found myself genuinely remembering what NPCs told me and getting fully involved in their quests rather than just running to a marker and ticking a box.

It also made every side discovery feel genuinely unique and natural, not like another point that was on the map the whole time. It's not at all the AC experience I'm used to but it's a really unique RPG gameplay loop

Why didn’t George make another appearance in Syndicate?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 11:51 AM PDT

The Frye twins weren't supposed to go to London,George (the third Assassin who appears in the first two missions) told them to get back to Crawley to discuss it with the Council

They disobeyed him (I don't know what is George's rank,so I can't say if he's part of the Council or not)

And also Jacob gave Evie that look when Henry said "thank goodness the Council has sent you",implying that they came there on their own

So why hasn't George (or any other assassin sent by the Council) went looking out for the Frye twins?

(I'm aware that they achieved their goals at the end,Starrick is dead and the shroud is safe, until the modern Templars of course, but like NOBODY looked for them while they were in London?)

[Syndicate] There is a teleporting cat in Syndicate.

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 05:27 AM PDT

That post about the mouse reminded me of something from a few years back. When syndicate first came out and everyone was jumping around in victorian london I noticed something unusual. During one of those detective missions (the one inspired by sweeney todd I think, near a market or something) I noticed something strange. There was a cat on top of the market roof, so I went up to investigate, but it vanished. And I don't just mean in a buggy way, like there was a cloud of purple smoke and everything. Then I saw another purple smoke cloud on another rooftop, and lo and behold, there appeared the cat. I kept playing this game of cat and mouse until the cat didn't materialize anymore. I even had a recording of with the ps4's video feature but deleted it to make space (games these days are getting huge. I mean like 80 gb for battlefront 2? What the hell) anyways I had to write this down or else I'd forget about it forever.

Post-release game concept for AC Origins by me

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 03:43 PM PDT

My first ideea on how and what AC Origins would have looked like with the additional content: The base game would have been set in the huge map of Egypt and then the same MC would travel through Greece and Ancient Rome to eliberate them(or other playable character for each region). Then after all this content would have been finished will the actual brotherhood been reformed (as an institution with rules and everything) because in the middle of the game is actually where you find the thesis for the future brotherhood and everything.

    Features from the old games

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 07:17 AM PDT

Their are some features that I miss from the old games and I would love to see them return in the future.

    1. The recruitment system. I would love to recruit people to fight alongside me. I missed doing that in brotherhood and in the next game we should be able to do that. I mean their was sort of a recruitment system in Syndicate with the rooks. That was fun but I want to recruit assassin's though and have them follow me across rooftops.
    2. The database. This was one of my favorite features about the older games. I would love to read the database. It had so much info about people, locations, ships and so many stories. It expanded lore and was interesting to read. Ubisoft took probably took it out to add the discovery tour. It's very interesting but I also miss the database.
    3. Single outfits. I missed having single outfits. In Odyssey I hated the gear system. If I want to complete an outfit set I would have to go across the map to get it. It was a waste of time and plus having just an outfit like Origins and the other games would be fine and much easier.
    4. Hidden Blade combat. I missed using the Hidden Blade in combat so much. Their was cool moments and it was overall fun to use. I don't get why they took that out. That is an assassin's main weapon. Yes you can still assassinate people for cool take downs but it's not the same.
    5. Bring back actual assassin elements. So stealth seemed to be largely absent from Odyssey. I don't understand why Ubisoft took out assassin elements. Social stealth, rope dart and White room assassinations. This was a huge element of the games and I don't understand the hell they are gone. Origins made them even more awesome.
    6. An actual good Modern day. The Modern day has become a big part of the franchise. The Desmond storyline was amazing. He was likable and people could connect to him. We could actually explore the world in the old Modern day. Their were badass scenes like Desmond killing Warren Vidic and all the guards with the apple of eden. I also liked to learn about what the Assassin's and Templars were like in the modern day. Black Flag is one of my favorite games in the series but the present day wasn't very good. In Rogue it was shit. The side characters were amazing like Shaun and Rebecca. The whole initiate thing in Unity and Syndicate I hated. We didn't get to really move around. Ubisoft has an issue with the Modern Day. They abandon so many storylines. Like what happened to Juno after Desmond freed her. I mean she was In Black Flag and Syndicate but they continue her story in the comics. WHY. They also abandoned Shaun, Rebecca, Bishop, Abstergo entertainment and Juno. And then William Miles pops out of nowhere in Origins. Yes I missed him but he just pops up years after Desmond's death. When they introduced Layla in Origins she was likable and I was glad to have a protagonist again. Layla was all messed up in Odyssey. They skipped a year and they never explained what happened to Layla and William. The Modern day characters in Odyssey were shit. How the fuck is Victoria an assassin. The part where they fought over the staff was so dumb. And than Kassandra alive thousands of years after the Peloponnesian war is stupid. The staff of hermes should've never happened. Odyssey ruined Layla for me. Alethia was kind of cool I guess. It was nice that Otso Berg returned I mean he was cool.

7.Bring back actual Assassin's and Templars. Okay Orgins get's off easy because it's the beginning of the brotherhood and the Hidden Ones was awesome as acting as the original brotherhood. But Odyssey should've never been an assassin's creed game. It would be better as just being called Odyssey. The lore is fucked in Odyssey and their are no Assassin's or Templar's. I don't honestly know what the purpose of that game was. Watch what happens in the comments. To many people will try and protect this game or say show some sympathy. For now on the games should go back to having Assassin's and Templars. The conflict is a big point of the franchise and it's absent from Odyssey. I mean if the next game has Hidden Ones I'll be fine with it but the game after that must have Assassin's or Templars.

    Assassins Creed: Civil War

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 07:44 AM PDT

Hey just a fun idea for An assassins creed game idea

Now normally I was thinking about it, and thought would it be interesting if they did an Assassins creed game involving the Civil War.

It takes place before the war, we'll have the main character how about john smith (Cliche) an assassin who had recently joined the Assassin order, during the beginning of the civil war, where he is assigned to kill a random templar, someone in the south. He goes there, and upon killing him, laughs and declared that their leader had betrayed them once and their leader has done it again (Refrense to the first game) Now this confuses the main character as he goes on a few missions and discovered that the leader of the order has betrayed them and is working for the templar's a complete traitor, and when he tries revealing this.

Of course the leader deny's it and, this results in the order splitting some of them believing our main character, since they've known him since a boy, or so. While others claiming he's an idiot, or is actually working with the templars. resulting in a civil war in the Assassin order, which shows a symbolism of both the games title and the location.

The game would result in dealing both the Civil war, between America, and the assassins order, while John Smith goes off fighting his brothers who want to kill him, and the templar, while dealing with war, Of course we run into other characters Like Robert E. Lee, maybe he's actually an Assassins, who have in time sneaked himself into the Templar to gain information, and is in many ways Helping the north, along with Ulysses S. Grant. Showing that not all is as it seems in the Templars (We've never seen an Assassin secretly hiding as a Templar.) Over the course of the game, we soon bring proof of the old leaders treachery and working for the Templars, and soon take him out.

For a time John Smith leaves the Order wanting some comfort and meets a girl, where he changes his name, going from John Smith too John Miles. Plot twist this is Desmonds great-Great- Great Grandfather, or so.

Than a final cut scene without our John Miles, where the remaining templars get together and desires chance their name, to hide from the world and become a new runner, and they decide to name themselves after their old leader, who's name was Abstergo.
