Has anyone else noticed that eivor seems to be wearing assassin robes at one point in the deep dive trailer?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 02:21 PM PDT

Animus scenes make me wanna bang my head against a wall since Black Flag.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 12:10 PM PDT

I can't fucking stand them after Desmond. They just interrupt the gameplay since Black Flag.

Desmond's story was interesting. As I remember there was a stadium mission which was awesome. Desmond's story was escalating with Ezio's and it was done PERFECTLY.

Now I don't wanna talk about Black Flag's bullshit-ass mute protagonist. Hacking computers in Abstergo and shit. Who cares?

In Origins Layla Hassan came. As far as I remember her parts were just interrupting the gameplay so I was enjoying nothing and rushing to finish her boring tasks.

And years later , I got Odyssey today. After fighting in a Spartan War screen cut to black. Aaaaand....

    It's Layla Fucking Hassan.

I'm writing it down as she speaks in the background about something I don't give a fuck about to a character who probably has a surface-level story which adds nothing to story at all.

If writers can't come up with something interesting for "modern day assassins using animus to gather memories and beat templars" feature , they should drop this.

After 60 hours of this great game, I was able to get some good photos! Hope you guys like them!

Fun Fact: in AC Unity, Melanie Lemay had an unused outfit that was repurposed as Bishop's outfit who has a model under the name "Enabler" that goes unused as we only see her in a pre-rendered cutscenes.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 04:19 PM PDT

Why is it so popular to shit on the modern-day aspects of AC?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:00 PM PDT

I always thought that was one of the most interesting parts of AC tbh. From a gameplay standpoint they're never as fun as the Animus stuff, but the amount of lore and worldbuilding you get is pretty great. I also thought the dynamic between Desmond, Lucy, Sean and Rebecca was great and was pretty frustrated when Ubi wrote them all out of future games or reduced a couple of them to very short cameos.

I'm assuming they shifted to Layla eventually instead of Nameless Faceless Protagonist #439823 because that was more interesting, although from what I've seen of Layla in Odyssey & Origins her story isn't as interesting as Desmond's.

And speaking of Desmond, I never understood all the hate he got either, and I wouldn't have minded at all if he had continued to be the modern-day protagonist (obviously that would have required them to go in a very different direction with AC3). I thought his story was pretty interesting overall, but IMO the things that happen at the end of Brotherhood and AC3 make it seem like Ubi themselves were sick of him and just wanted to change things up; a decision I still disagree with several years after AC3's release.

Idk, I just think the modern-day stuff gets unfairly dunked on when it's really not that bad. Well, except for everything that happens in Revelations, that is truly horrid. And AC3's modern-day stuff was pretty meh too from what I recall.

Abstergo Agents using swords [Slight Spoilers for Odyssey Fate of Atlantis]

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 08:20 PM PDT

In AC 1 Abstergo guards didn't have guns when they fought against Desmond, using their batons suspiciously like swords by animus enemies... but at least they were skinned as batons.

In AC3 the guards upgraded to using guns (none automatic, but still a vast improvement to the previous encounter, and on the whole these modern scenes were the most well-done of the series)

In Odyssey Abstergo agents charge Layla... with swords. Frickin' swords. Not even a baton skinned over them. Guns? Missing as well.

    Great job, Ubi.

What county/time period do you think the next AC game take place in?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 07:35 PM PDT

So I have heard that AC Valhalla will be the end of the mythic trilogy. I read somewhere that the this trilogy will cover Egypt, Greece, and Norse games. What do you think will happen to Layla? Do you think they will get back to involve Desmond Miles even though he is dead?

    Why do people dislike Syndicate?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 09:55 PM PDT

Why do so many AC fans dislike Syndicate? I have played every AC game (except for Chronicles, which I don't think really counts), and I can honestly say that Syndicate is one of my favorites. Firstly, I adore Jacob and Evie. To be honest, apart from Ezio and Edward, they're by far my favorite assassins. Jacob was funny without feeling comedic relief, and he obviously cared a great deal for the people of London. Evie was a fantastic foil to Jacob and just a great character all around (definitely the best female assassin we've ever seen). Their dynamic was wonderful, and I think we really got to see them grow as characters.

Secondly, I think it had some of the best supporting characters in any AC game. You had Alexander Graham Bell (who was an honest-to-god cinnamon roll, I love him), Darwin and Dickens (both of whom were fun to work with), Clara O'Dea (kickass little girl), Frederick Abberline (who wanted to do the right thing, even though he disagreed with the idea of assassins), Ned Wynert (a great character with a great backstory), Robert Topping (absolutely hilarious to listen to), and Henry Green (who was honestly such a sweetheart, and he and Evie were really cute together).

Thirdly, I think it had one of the best open worlds Ubisoft had ever created. I mean, it's filled to the brim. I honestly can't think of a boring part of the map. Out of all the games I've ever played (not just AC games), Syndicate's is probably the one that feels the most "alive". There are just a bunch of little things that make it feel so real, like kids playing with a ball behind buildings, people with little flower stands, people flirting in the park. Sometimes I just walk around the world to see everything there is to see.

Overall, I think it's just fun. The side quests are fun, the combat is fun (I love seeing how many Blighters I can clear out just using throwing knives), the characters are fun (but still believable). To me, there really only two "bad" things I can think of. The first is that the story is nothing special. It's fairly predictable, and there aren't really any super emotional moments, but again, it's still fun, and the characters make it interesting. The second thing is that the villain is cliche. He's just a rich and powerful guy who wants to become even more rich and powerful. Pretty standard bad guy stuff.

Still, I hear AC fans talk about Syndicate as if it's one of the worst in the series. Obviously, everyone is going to have different tastes, and I certainly don't expect it to be everyone's favorite, but I honestly don't see why so many people consider it a bad game.

[AC Odyssey] The goat with a the obsidian eye

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 11:40 AM PDT

So, this is kind of a random question but I'm so curious about it.

In the early game Kassadra/Alexios sticks the Cyclops' obsidian eye up a goat's butt.

Later, during a loading screen, I saw a tip that said something along the lines of "Somewhere out there, a goat is still running around with the Obsidian Eye"

    Now here are my questions:

    1. Wouldn't the goat poop it out?

    2. Has anyone actually gotten an Obsidian Eye from a dead goat? (Bc I've been on a goat hunting crusade since then and haven't found it yet hahaha)

Edit: messed up the title, I swear I'm not Mario lol

Assassin's Creed Origins makes me feel nostalgic

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:10 PM PDT

I played Assassin's Creed Origins and i finished it this summer, and man do i feel sad that that game is no longer in developpement. That's one of the few AC games i ever truly loved. It has an amazing gameplay (for me), good ost and the most beautiful thing about it, the curse of the pharaohs dlc (the best dlc i ever played, too bad it's short tho). I always feel nostalgic whenever i remember the days i used to play this game, hope valhala will give me the same feelings, what do you think of origins, does it make you feel nostalgic or just meh ?

[Spoilers] Is Valhalla Paving the way for an Aztec Assassin’s Creed?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 09:00 AM PDT

For anyone looking to go dark and not be spoiled on events in Valhalla, some spoilers ahead.

As we recently learned from some trailers and interviews, in Valhalla, Eivor will not only travel between England and Norway but also to North America, likely in Vinland. Sagas would say that Vikings actually came to this region about one to two hundred years later and lived in the region of eastern Canada; and many of them likely assimilated into the local cultures. By 1500, however, an interesting rumor was circulating about the newly forming colonies of a mythical city named Norumbega. Some variations of the rumor include it having a landmass, a river, or a city on an island. It always points to very similar features though, a city filled with gold, and treasures, founded by Vikings. I think it'd be really fascinating for Valhalla to tie the myth of Norumbega into whatever reason we go to North America, maybe to hide a certain piece of Gold?

What's fascinating is the time period that this happens and new myths begin arising throughout the world. In Spain in the 9th-century rumors of islands to the west filled with Gold and Treasure, some cities made of Gold began infiltrating the discourse named Cibola. These rumors and myths would later fuel Spanish Obsession with Golden Cities in the Americas. In 1540, Francisco Vázquez de Coronado led an expedition throughout the southwest United States from Mexico searching for the Seven Cities of Cibola, named after the old Spanish Myths. What if Vikings (like Bjorn Ironside, son of Ragnar Lothbrok) raiding Spain in the 9th and 10th centuries brought back the rumors of Norumbega which is what entered these cities of gold in Spanish Myths and Legend?

The other fascinating time is that of the Aztec Empire. In the 9th century, the Mayan Empire was collapsing and by the 11th century, the Aztec Empire was rising. Right around when Eivor first visits the area of a city of Gold and right when Lief Erikson discovers it. This is important because Montezuma and the Aztec people initially accepted the Spanish because they thought Cortes was Quetzalcoatl, an Aztec God who was white-skinned, bearded, and wore shiny armor and vowed to return to overthrow the violent god that demanded sacrifices. Native American tribes never learned metalworking in the pre-Columbian era, so how would the Aztecs know of people that were white, bearded, and had shiny armor? Who were the white, bearded, men that came to the Americas?

    Vikings.

If you'll remember back in Assassin's Creed 4, Ah Tabai had mentioned that the creed's ideas were already in the Americas when the Spanish came. How is that possible when the creed didn't form until 44-38bce and Native American tribes entered the Americas 20,000 years ago? Well, there are 2 possible ways.

    1. There are trace remains of Polynesian pottery and DNA in some native Peruvians, meaning the Incas likely had some contact with Polynesian travelers. The creed could be introduced from the south and move North.
    2. Eivor or other Vikings introduced the Creed to the Americas which traveled south to Mexico.

Darby has said repeatedly that this game will be tying up loose ends, and what if this is one. What if Eivor traveling to Vinland ties up how the Creed and Sages came to the Americas. And now this starts to come full circle. The Vikings, because of Eivor, are the ones who created the image of Quetzalcoatl and brought the Creed to America. The Vikings, because of Eivor, brought the rumors of Golden Cities to Spain. And now the stage is set to see the aftermath of this play out as Spanish Lust for Gold leads to the conquering of Mexico and searches for Cibola, El Dorado, and the Fountain of Youth.

I've been saying for a while that I think Black Plague France and China are the next settings, but this potential for setup would be something Ubisoft would totally do. If you are interested in seeing what lore and events could be used in a game about the Spanish Conquest of the Aztecs, I have a post for you right here. And I'd love to hear what you think of this theory down below!

Which AC game has given you a real sense of place and made you want to visit that destination in real life?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 01:25 PM PDT

Which AC game has given you a real sense of place and made you want to visit that destination in real life?

    Hi all

Over the years, there have been many games, especially AC series, left a lasting impact on me through their themes, characters, locations or stories. Consequently, some games have influenced my view of the world, as well as my travel habits. AC2 was the first one to ignite my passion for video game travel and I travelled to Italy for AC2 pilgrimage. Did you know there is a small street in Venice called "Rio Terra Dei Assassini" or simply, Assassin's Street? I was super excited when I took a photo of it...

A few months ago, I decided to conduct my thesis research about how places/locations are portrayed and experienced in video games. I am also trying to establish the potential role that video games might play in motivating gamers to visit video game destinations in the future.

Now, I am seeking the Assassins Creed fans' help to tell the story of how we, gamers, experience places/locations through the games, which is occasionally something beyond "just playing".

I hope some of you in the Assassins Creed subreddit community can support my research by completing my survey, which should take around 15 minutes.

Feel free to share my survey and the photo with any avid gamer. Thank a lot!

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:36 PM PDT

Why can other mercs enter restricted areas without getting attacked by guards, but I can't? Is there some lore behind it that I've missed or forgotten? Might be a stupid question. Thanks :)

Let's talk a little about robes/cape physics in the game.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 11:54 PM PDT

Let's agree on one thing: capes/robes are badass.

I always liked the robes in the cinematic trailers but they looked a lot less impressive in-game. I mean there are graphic limitations and so it's unfair to compare the two but would that ever be possible? At least there should be a graphics option for the more powerful computers that could be toggled on/off.

The Assassins and Templars are not simple stand-ins for economic models

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 01:46 PM PDT

One of the most simplistic comparisons of the Assassins and Templars that I've seen repeated is comparing them to libertarians and socialists/communists respectively.

These groups are not that simple.

If comparing these two to real world philosophies, the Assassins are Existentialists; and the Templars are Platonists, especially outlined in the Republic with the models of state run by the Guardian class or the philosopher king.

In-universe, Assassins and Templars do not stand for libertarianism and socialism/communism. In fact it's the opposite. The Assassins have supported Karl Marx (in Syndicate), and Vladimir Lenin:

Though not an Assassin himself, Lenin was affiliated with the Russian Assassins. His brother, Aleksandr Ulyanov, was an Assassin, as was their close friend Nikolai Orelov...In 1917, as Lenin's party took control of Russia, he aided the Assassins greatly, giving them access to several facilities that would further their work, especially in the field of science.

And the Templars are the ones who invented capitalism:

The Templars created capitalism as a means to keep the working population in line and under their own tight control. The Templars Henry Ford and Ransom Eli Olds created the assembly line, and economist John Maynard Keynes created several new theories and forms of economics based on capitalism. Throughout the 20th century, the Templars made use of puppet regimes and rulers to spread capitalism throughout the world, with the ultimate goal being the eventual collapse of democracy, creating an ideal situation for the Templars to introduce a New World Order.

So the Assassins and Templars are not simply libertarians and socialists/communists. Economic models to these groups are just means to their respective ends, but are not these models in and of themselves.

How do you think that religion will be treated in the settlement?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 04:55 PM PDT

As we know, Ravensthorpe will be mainly a Viking settlement, but Ubisoft confirmed that some saxons will join. Both the Vikings and saxons were very passionate about their religion, so how do you think they'll treat that aspect?

Sorry if it isn't perfectly redacted, English isn't my first language.

The most genuine experience for an AC game will become reality when the crowd acts more than an ambiance

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 04:15 AM PDT

I was watching an AC:Valhalla video. I love it so far, but I noticed the same pattern. You are in a city/village, acting like a monkey on steroids, walking crouched, hiding in hay, and all the peasants are just looking at you, or at best they make a gasping sound and they go on about their business.

I really want and hope that in the future the crowd will start to make a fuss when they see you acting suspiciously. Call the guards, or go and sneakily report that they see a strange shady dude hiding in haystacks. Maybe have some kind of "social disturbance bar" that fills up as you collectively act strangely in a city/village.

Of course there's no need for it to be very invasive because it would make it annoying, but adding a few touches of "realism" instead of everyone being totally cool that a person is acting so strange among them would feel nice and push some more social roleplay elements into the series.

Connor's tomahawk hopefully in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 08:24 AM PDT

I was thinking about how you can duel wield weapons in Valhalla and what Ubisoft might put on Ubisoft Club. Does anyone else think that it would be cool if Connor's tomahawk was in the Ubisoft Club or maybe some mission that gives you his tomahawk? The mission 1 probably won't happen but wouldn't be cool to duel wield Connor's tomahawk with a sheild or something.

Sprint on a single button? #Valhalla

Tell me. I heard rumors that in Valhalla the sprint will be on a separate button, like in the early parts, and not like in "Origins" - a stick. It's true?? If so, then I'm pretty damn frustrated and just terribly angry. One of the annoying things in the previous parts is that to run, you must constantly hold the Trigger clamped. And how I enjoyed "Origins", you tilt the stick a little harder - it runs faster, a little less - quieter, right down to the step. This is very important to know, since such an element can simply ruin the whole experience of the game.

I really hope we get something like a prequel to Assassin's Creed 1 that deeply covers the birth of the Creed and the first years of the Templar Order.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 06:10 AM PDT

I see many people are complaining about the game has gone too far away from Assassin/Templar conflict. Due to the historical reasons also where neither of them existed, I feel like with the new game engine having something completely new that is also parallel to the comics and to the first game would be so amazing and also have tons of easter eggs that could bring nostalgia such like meeting with either the mother or father of Altair.

Rudkhan or Alamut Castle, Hassan-i Sabbah, Salanid, Siege of Jerusalem, Cyprus, visiting Constantinople at some point and more. I feel the content is insane and also very familiar to the series. I mostly see people wanting Aztecs, Inca stuff or an Asian game. Tbh after Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted games and Shadow of the Tomb Raider I kinda have very little exciment for them. Going back to where it started wouldn't be anything repetitive in my eyes like how Call of Duty returned back to WW2 or Modern Warfare. Assassin's Creed is a pure sandbox game and it even has RPG elements anymore. It is just keep getting better and better, even the new social stealth improvements and some new hidden blade changes. Ubisoft is trying to improve and always looking at back for what they did wrong before.

For the franchise to not getting lost, combining the old games and the new genre, I feel a prequel to the AC1 is what the franchise needs.
