Holy shit Black Flag was so great! (spoilers)

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 06:21 PM PDT

I'm playing through all the games for the first time in anticipation of Valhalla. Black Flag was by far my favorite so far. The story was both heartfelt and lighthearted at the same time. The world was beautiful and so much fun to explore. I even told my wife that we're going on a Caribbean sailing vacation because this game made it seem so beautiful and vibrant. I did not have time to do much of the side quest stuff, especially the modern day stuff (looking in all of the employees computers and stuff). It looked it me like most of it was just meta jokes poking fun at Ubisoft and AC3's poor reception. Is that the gist of it or did I miss soemthing major?

Also, do we find out more about what the deal was with Roberts coming back in the modern day? Honestly the whole overarching precursor-race/modern day story is kind of going over my head...

    Can't wait to start Rogue!

Preparing for a large fort (AC Origins and Odyssey)

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 08:48 PM PDT

Hello AC friends! When coming upon a large fort/citadel/garrison (I'm talking over x20 goons and x2 captains and x1 commander), does anyone else pause the game to prepare? Every time I come upon one, before I start recon with Senu or Ikaros, I pause the game to complete various tasks ahead of time. I go to the bathroom, refill my beverage, text/snap then turn off my phone, grab a bite. Then I like physically prepare, like crack my neck, crack knuckles, do a stretch or two haha trying to get into the zone to get in there and slay.

Anyone else do this or am I just too into it? What do you do to prepare for a big fortress?

Recent news about Assassin's Creed Valhalla might hint to an appearance of a certain Assassin from Monteriggioni (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 06:02 AM PDT

In recent video from ATA, it was said (by Darby McDevitt) that Roman Hidden Ones started that historical spread of Roman empire started at similar time Bayek and Aya founded Hidden Ones.

Now, from what I gathered in the internet, it's true that Caesar tried to invade England at 56-55 BC, although it was unsuccessful. However, I'm not gonna focus on that time, because there's something more interesting.

The full invasion to the England by Roman Empire started at 43 AD, two years after Claudius ascended to the power. He inherited the throne after Caligula was being killed by this man.

    Leonius

Claudius, according to some sources, didn't participate in the conspiracy directly, but he knew about the plans to take down Caligula. Obviously in AC universe it's Leonius who killed Caligula, however we don't know about his family. But assuming Hidden Ones did stay the blade from the flash of an innocent, Cassius Chaerea (killer of Caligula in real history) did this:

There is no evidence that Claudius had a direct hand in the assassination, although it has been argued that he knew about the plot—particularly since he left the scene of the crime shortly before his nephew was murdered.[9] However, after the deaths of Caligula's wife and daughter), it became apparent that Cassius intended to go beyond the terms of the conspiracy and wipe out the Imperial family.

Here's one of the most interesting parts. When Claudius ascended, he decided to take care of those who participated in this conspiracy, possibly believing at some point they will betray him too.

Although not the preferred choice of the Roman Senate, Claudius proved to be an efficient emperor. His first act was to execute Cassius Chaerea and his co-conspirators, the assassins of Caligula. - source

So it's safe to say Leonius was meant to be executed as well. But what if he managed to escape?

We know that in two years after becoming emperor Claudius started invasion to England. What if one of the reasons "behind the scenes" was to hunt down Leonius? Assuming Leonius escaped, it makes sense that he ran off to England to his Hidden One brothers and sisters, and when Claudius learned his whereabouts, he decided to start invasion. Of course not purely because of him (there were economic reasons for Roman Empire to invade England), but "behind the scenes" he wanted to hunt him down too.

Where does it lead? Whether he succeeded or failed in this, it's possible that we'll get something similar to AC Origins, when real Amunet's tomb will be in England, not in Italy. Or there will be other references - hell, maybe we'll find his weapon stored in some hideout of Hidden Ones.

Weird hidden prayer in ACB? Explanation in comments

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 03:43 PM PDT

Did you have a favorite animal, tamed or no, in the recent games?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 09:52 PM PDT

In Odyssey i have had 2- a bear (unofficially named Mister Bearsly) that seemed to always want to rub against Kassandra, and he'd even sit down like Winnie the Pooh when I was buying/selling weapons. Alas the bear died helping me take a Spartan fort.

I also had a lynx for about 2 hours of play that seemed to maul everyone in enemy areas where I just walked in and cleaned up the loot. He/she died helping me fight the legendary bear.

But, my all time favorite AC animal was Battlecat. In AC Origins, for some weird reason across different areas, for a few hours of gameplay, whenever I'd be taking an enemy fort, in the middle of fighting I'd hear a meow, and see the SAME CAT walking around just hanging out watching me kill. I'd leave the area, go on about my day and next fort, low and behold Battlecat would be there.

I'd lured a guard towards me once, and with lots of oil under him threw a torch, and out of the corner of my eye heard a screech, and Battlecat got caught in the fire. I'm sure my wife wondered what was going on as it was after midnight and I actually yelled out loud, to nobody, "BATTLECAT! Noooo!" and just sorta sat there dejected for a good 10 minutes. RIP Battlecat.

Later on I think I met Battlecat's soul sister, BoatCat. BoatCat kept following me around for a while, and would even get in rowboats with me and travel the map. Eventually when I did a main mission BoatCat disappeared.

I'm sure someone will say they were just randomly generated cats, but Battlecat was always the same color (and was the only cat I ever saw in enemy forts), and BoatCat was literally at my side for an hour or so of gameplay. So yes, I'm choosing to believe it was the same cat(s).

“You are either X or Y, perhaps both.”

I feel like this phrase comes up often in the series. I've noticed it happen quite a few times in AC1 and AC3. Anyone else notice this speech pattern?

Do you think Valhalla will be able to run on current gen?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 02:39 PM PDT

So i don't typically buy consoles when they first come out, i like to wait about a year. Do you think Valhalla will run fine on current gen? Do you think performance will be about the same as it was with Origins and Odyssey?

What did Ezio say at the end of Revelations?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 07:04 PM PDT

Ok so I thought this would be answered in AC3, but I just finished that and...my disappointment in general gameplay aside, rounding out the story left a lot to be desired. if this and my other questions are answered in Black Flag please let me know and please no spoilers for that! it's the only reason I'm not googling this.

What did Ezio see from the apple to "tell" Desmond? The location of the key? Sorry I totally forgot if this was mentioned. Also, basically are the First Civ like some all knowing kind of entity who know what's about to happen or predict it so Ezio was the messenger because they knew Desmond was going to view his memories?

Sorry if it's obvious and I know I am YEARS late with this, but I wanna understand the lore a bit better before moving further into Black Flag which I just started and seems like it won't answer any of those questions since that modern story is "done".

Will the Xbox series S run Valhalla at 60 FPS, or is it just the series X?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 11:58 PM PDT

I don't know which console to buy as of now, but if Valhalla runs at 60fps only on the series X, I'll probably go with that one. Does anyone know if it's both?

From someone who suffers from multiple Disorders and wants to find some happiness in a game, which Assassin would make me happy the most?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 02:49 PM PDT

I really wanna be happy playing a game, and I wanna get into the Assassin's Creed games as to me they are games that do an amazing job keeping you busy. But which Assassin from the game could help me with my Disorders and help me find any semblance of happiness while I play. I don't want a depressing character, but someone I can love and care for.

    Strongest Assasins ranking (till Origins)

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 09:15 AM PDT

    1. Bayek - He had formal training from his father who was a Medjay. He himself became a Medjay. He was also responsible for eradicating the Order of the Ancients from Egypt. Other than being a great leader, his greatest feats are defeating Flavius even when he had the Apple of Eden, becoming a gladiator and chariot racing champion, and defeating countless spirits of the dead Pharaohs. Also, he frequently fought against dangerous animals like war elephants, hippos, lions, leopards, hyenas, etc. He was aided by his unique Senu vision. Senu also helped him fight enemies.
    2. Altair Ibn-La'Ahad - Tough competition between Altair and Bayek. He too had good formal training by specialized masters. He was born among the Assasins. Became one of the greatest leaders and legends in the Brotherhood. His greatest feats are carrying out 9 assassinations of Templar officials, which were almost suicide missions (Al Mualim gave them to Altair as a punishment for endangering his team and killing an innocent), defeating (not killing, which makes it more difficult) several assassins of the Brotherhood who were under mind control by Al Mualim and defeating him even when he had the Apple of Eden. He also is quite knowledgable as he spent a lot of years with the Apple of Eden (he even invented a short-range firearm).
    3. Connor - Guy fought like a wild beast. Brutal and raging. Trained by Achilles Davenport, he killed many Templar officials, including Templar leader Haytham Kenway. Defeated George Washington who had the Apple in an alternate timeline (he, Altair, and Bayek are the only people to defeat someone with a piece of Eden). A champion of the Boston Brawlers, with his raw strength, he can hold back a male elk's charge with his bare hands, smash metal locks, shoot an arrow with so much force that it can pass through two people. Fast enough to go toe to toe with black bears with just the hidden blade, block cougar pounces, and stay within 40 meters of Charles Lee during a chase. Also has knowledge of naval warfare.
    4. Shay Cormac - Learned from the Assassins and the Templars. Defeated several of the strongest members of the Brotherhood including Achilles Davenport.
    5. Ezio Auditore da Firenze - He is a great leader. And he didn't get any good training (he was trained by his uncle Mario (who was obese and not exactly a strong Assasin). Also, before that, he was a spoiled rich kid. He almost died fighting Rodrigo Borgia. Even though Rodrigo had a piece of Eden, he was old and Ezio had the Apple with him. But the experience made him stronger. In Revelations, he was kicking ass at the age of 52. He also fought Templars at the age of 65. What makes him different is that he used techniques like seduction, bribing prostitutes to distract guards, hiring mercenaries, etc.
    6. Aya - One of the founders of the Hidden Ones along with Bayek. She started the Roman Brotherhood with her first step being infiltration of the heavily guarded palace of Julius Ceaser, assassinating him and killing Septimius. Also mastered the art of naval warfare in a few weeks.
    7. Evie Frye - Had the best stealth capabilities (one upgrade allowed her to be invisible if she was still). Calm and calculated, she and Jacob had the insane ability to execute bullet dodge; dodging bullets at point-blank range. She also defeated Jack the Ripper, a psychopathic ex-Assasin who was able to best Jacob. But she is not invincible as it took her, Jacob, and Henry Green; all three to defeat Crawford Starrick with the Shroud of Eden. Also, her enemies were mostly street thugs and gangsters instead of soldiers.
    8. Arno Dorian - Defeated a Master Assassin with not much experience. He also defeated a sage with Elise's help. He also possessed a unique form of eagle vision that allowed him to see memories of his victims.
    9. Edward Kenway - Expert of naval warfare. Had no formal training.
    10. Aveline de Grandpré - Good in disguises and socializing made her a good assassin.
    11. Jacob Frye - Same as Evie, but placed below Evie as he lost to Jack the Ripper.

What do you think of my list? Any inaccuracies?

Edit: I forgot most of the feats of Arno. Thanks to u/TheCascador to point them out. u/DazOceanGuard also pointed out some of the feats of Connor. Also changed some rankings.

AC Odyssey: After playing a user-created story, I want to be able to exit it, and then some time later, come back and replay it again, instead of just replaying/restarting it on the spot.

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 04:13 PM PDT

In AC Odyssey, is it possible for me to play a user-created story, and instead of restarting it on the spot, exit out of the story, come back some time later, & then replay the story then?

Or are user-created stories only replayable in a single session?

If I can replay it some time later, how do I do that?
