The ending og Black Flag is enough to make a grown man cry...

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 02:35 PM PDT

When I first played Black Flag I was 14. I cried with that ending.

Played it today as 21 young adult. Cried even more this time.

Seeing all the friends Edward lost was heartbreaking. It was like Edward was saying goodbye to his old pirate life but when he meets his daughter, it's like his greeting a new life, as father and as a true assassin.

Fuck Ubisoft, make more shit like this please.

I just started playing Unity and already Arno has had more character development in 2 hours than Jacob or Evie did for half the game

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 08:34 PM PDT

I find Unity so much more captivating than Syndicate. I love Arno so far!!! Anyone else feel this way?

I'm playing AC: Origins after not playing an AC game in years, and I gotta say... the combat in this game and the auto leveling feature is fantastic, and was definitely missing from the original games

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:51 PM PDT

Now dont get me wrong, the original games were great, and I enjoyed every one of them, but the combat in those games was so boring. I remember (fondly) running through Italy with Ezio and aggroing a ton of guards and making them all follow me so I could just spend a few minutes doing those flashy counter kill animations. It was fun, but so brainless that it kinda took the fun away at the same time. At least in the original games the story was more fleshed out, so I could overlook the combat being so one-dimensional.

Anyways on to my main point(s) now...

As I'm playing through Origins, I am struck by how much more fun and rewarding the combat in this game is. I'm playing on Nightmare difficulty (cuz I'm a masochist apparently) and I am loving the fact that if I piss off more than 4 or 5 enemies at once, I am basically guaranteed to die. It adds so much depth to the combat. Taking down a fort for instance. In the older games, you could just run in and wipe everyone with no effort, but in Origins, I find myself actually having to plan my attack. Do I try it at night when a few of the guards are asleep? Do I try to lure them into the bushes for some hot one-on-one action with my hidden blade? Dont get me started on the new bird drone feature. Using Senu to strategically harass guards so they don't see me assassinating their homie gives me so much pleasure. I also really enjoy the variety in enemies and their weaponry. Having enemies that can swap between a sword and a bow (just like me!) just adds yet another wrinkle to the combat in Origins. Then theres the Brutes, and the shield dudes, and the phylakes and etc etc etc. So much fun to constantly have to think about my actions and their consequences.

The auto-leveling feature is just as good in my opinion as the combat changes are. I like that I can go back to a region I havent seen in a while, and still have a challenge waiting for me there. It keeps the game fresh, and makes it so I dont feel shoehorned into the higher level regions just because going back to Siwa means it's a cakewalk with level 3 enemies. Also helps solve the overleveling problem I heard people talking about.

In conclusion, I think that both of these features (but mostly the revamped combat) are absolutely fantastic and I hope they stick around. Thanks for reading my TedTalk

A Word About Origins and Odyssey

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 09:01 PM PDT

Heyo, It seems like the community is pretty torn about Odyssey, Origins, and where the franchise is going, so I'll dip into the fray and put my two-cents in because I am an avid fan of AC.

Origins is better than Odyssey for a simple reason. The game itself. Having played Odyssey before playing Origins, I was absolutely upset at the fact that as soon as I loaded up origins, that Odyssey was a complete reskin of it. At first I thought Odyssey was a mediocre game, and for the price I paid, it was good for the time. Now having played Origins, I know that Odyssey aside from the effort put into the map, the mechanics, graphics, animations, and the like are almost *identical *. Odyssey's storyline and side quests were blown out of the water by Origins prologue and story.

Origins took me back to the AC Franchise, which the menu sounds, hidden blade, and overall AC feel, which Odyssey had none of. I feel that Odyssey could have not had the Assassin's Creed name, and I wouldn't have been the wiser, it had no AC aspects at all. That name placement alone, took away from it.

    Shoutout to Assassin’s creed syndicate

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 02:07 PM PDT

This is kind of a positive rant I guess but I just wanted to give a shoutout to this really good game that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. So I've been an on off fan of this series since the start. I played the first one back when I first got a ps3 and enjoyed it, I skipped over the Ezio trilogy ( but I'm planning on playin them through), I played III and that ones my favorite, I played and loved four because I grew up on pirates of the Caribbean, skipped rouge (but it was on sale recently so I picked it up), played unity but wasn't really feeling it, then I skipped syndicate and origins. I just played odyssey and had a blast. Anyway, after odyssey I wanted a more traditional AC experience, so I picked of syndicate. I guess I just wanted to voice how great that game is because everyone I know that's played it, as well as the general consumer that I've noticed online, was that it was bland and rushed and put the franchise on hold until origins. But I'm having a blast. London is by far my favorite city in an AC game, and it's a joy just to run around and explore. The Frye twins are fun characters even if they don't gave the same narrative drive as other assassins. But by god the atmosphere is spectacular in this game. And the OST is amazing. I don't really have some intelligent breakdown of the game, I just wanted to say it's great, underrated, and I love it.

    [Spoiler] Shay, Connor and Arno

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 04:43 PM PDT

Are all alive during the 1798 Irish Rebellion.

Shay is Irish. The leader of the Irish rebels was French and Ireland received help from the French. Arno connection could be worked in.

I don't see our protagonists taking sides in the war to a huge extent. The United Irish Men were not successful in their Rebellion so we cant have the normal 'Assassin joins good guys and wins them the war'. I can mainly see our protagonists getting involved to mitigate British atrocities, save lives.

Ireland is an island so we can have naval combat. It's also very small compared to other regions we had so a more life like scale is possible.

Ireland has a huge folklore to reach in to for the mytical beasts and DLC we've grown accustomed to.

Arno's Motivations: Finding Unity in Unity's Story

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 10:47 AM PDT

To preface, I've looked to see if there have been similar points brought up in previous threads but couldn't find anything similar enough to satisfy me. I'll launch in:

Fresh off the heels of my second full Unity + Dead Kings playthrough (hello quarantine), I have kinder thoughts about the overall story. My main breakthrough came with my theory of Arno's only true motivation for most of his life; Élise.

As a young child, Arno had his father ripped away from him. The next time we see him, he's essentially a fuckboi, drinking, gambling, and stealing his young adulthood away. It seems clear he doesn't have much purpose in his life. Enter Élise, who has become much more to Arno than the capricious girl he met in Versailles. The main introductory mission is to quite literally pursue her despite significant obstacles.

Upon the death of François de la Serre, for which Arno is unwittingly responsible, he is thrown in prison, setting him on his Assassin journey. Upon his liberation, the VERY FIRST THING he does is visit Élise. She utterly spurns him, overzealously but not incorrectly blaming him for her father's death. Devoid of purpose, Arno drinks himself into oblivion. He concocts a plan to work himself back into her good graces; redeem his failure to deliver the letter by bringing her father's killers to justice. He decides the best way to accomplish this is to take Bellec up on his invitation and join the brotherhood, like his father before him.

Through his career in the brotherhood, Arno displays very little devotion to The Assassin's Creed; that is, the ideals of the brotherhood. He continues to use his position to relentlessly pursue both Élise's love and redemption for his role in his surrogate father's murder. Arno's singular focus leads him to be quite easily tricked by Germain, wrongfully killing a sympathetic Templar in Lafrenière. His subsequent actions, driven by his love for Élise, leads directly into Bellec's betrayal of Mirabeau and his confrontation with Arno.

At the very beginning of the next sequence we see he is, in my opinion quite rightfully, distrusted by the Assassin council. They're cautious of Arno's seeming disregard for their core tenets and his relentless pursuit of de la Serre's killers which often crosses into vigilantism. What follows is exactly what they feared, Arno essentially goes rogue again and takes it upon himself to kill multiple important people, without once checking in with the Assassins. Is it any surprise they kick him out of the brotherhood?

In the next sequence we see Arno hit rock bottom once again (it seems he often looks at his father's pocket watch at these times, too). It is only with the return of Élise, his shining light, that he begins to pull himself back together. Tragically, Élise is killed in the course of the final mission, and Arno loses the only meaning he has in life. Even the Assassins, his second adoptive family, have disowned him. He is truly left with nothing.

Dead Kings picks up this version of Arno, who we see has been a lousy drunk again (recurring theme when he loses purpose), at this point for over a year. The story of Dead Kings is the story of a broken man rebuilding himself from the ground up, learning to find purpose again. In my opinion, the transition is handled a little unconvincingly, with Arno suddenly caring about higher ideals because...an orphan who cares a lot? Maybe it reminds him of his younger self, but that's not really made clear. While there are crumbs of Arno's personality and desire to help the downtrodden throughout the story, they're not fleshed out enough to make this arc as meaningful as it could have been. Still, I appreciate the overarching theme of rebuilding oneself from a devastating loss.

That's all I have, and these are all just my opinions, but I'm bored af at home and wanted to take the time to write a treatise on one of my favorite series, if not necessarily my favorite game. Bring on the discussion!

TL;DR Arno's only really purpose in life is Élise, which drives all his decisions and consequences thereof in the main game. Dead Kings is him learning to find purpose again in a world without Élise.

Is multiplayer still alive in AC Unity?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 10:05 PM PDT

I've never really played Unity to completion since back in the day when it launched my PC was trash. Now, with a GTX 1080 and an 1800x I know I can definitely run it haha.

I've been looking forward to playing it for a while since I'm kinda burnt out on Odyssey and Origins.

I know Unity has co-op, so I was wondering if it was still alive? Is there a lot of co-op stuff to do, and is it fun/worth it?

[Rogue Academy] AC Unity - Smoke Bombs In-Depth (All Mechanics and Functions)

If you were only able to own 2 AC games, which would you choose?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 09:58 AM PDT

Probably a silly question, but I figured you fine people would be able to appreciate it. For me it's lookin like Unity and Origins so far since I've enjoyed both games for different reasons. Would love to hear your choices though!

EDIT: Crazy how diverse you all are in your choice of game. While there are some common ones like Black Flag, it's good to see almost every AC game in the comments.

Did You know you can do chain kills in Assassins Creed 2

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 12:00 AM PDT

It seems like everything thinks the only thing you can do is counter kills (especially against armored enemies). But if you master the skill and timing with quick step ability you can fluidly one shot combo-kill (thats those fluid kill animations you get at the end of a combo sometimes) every enemy in the game like a kill chain. You time your enemies attack, then use quick step to get directly behind them and from there its a one shot kill animation. You can also quick step behind them when their not attacking sometimes or distracted its all about skill with quickstep. I just discovered this and it makes combat so fluid like Brotherhood and onwards, you dont just have to endlessly swing at your opponents gaurd or use hidden blade counters. The combat can be much more fluid if you use it correctly . Im just chaining kills and countering the weak ones now like Connor or something lol

[Spoilers for Odyssey's ending] I didn't get the good ending, and it leaves me very sad

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:46 PM PDT

I'm playing as Alexios, and throughout my playthrough I've been trying to pick the best, nicest dialogue option not knowing there were different endings.
And in turn, I spared The Wolf and Stentor and promised my mother I will get Kassandra back into the family, which i believe now was the best decisions if I wanted to go for a Family Reunion.

Then I begin to stumble into the end of the story without knowing.
I tried to save Kassandra from under the tree despite she "killing" Brasidas because of the promise I made to mother, ended up in the prison, and talked to Kassandra, but she still followed Kleon's orders. Then I did all that Jazz of watching Brasidas die, Kassandras get shot by Kleon, killing Kleon, then it came to me and Myrrine walking up to the mountain where it all began.

It dawned on me. I'm walking towards the end of the game, and then I saw Kassandra also there. I was excited because I thought I did well in being nice to her and convincing her and everything, and coupled with the fact she got shot in the back by Kleon, I was on my way to success.

It played out, We talked to Kassandra and she seemed moved, I didn't choose to fight her, and mother went and hugged her, everybody is happy!

And then she grabbed Myrrine and knocked me out of my illusions of a family reunion. Every single second of that happening, I was thinking pls let me get into a fight scene so I could save Mother, pls pls pls pls pls pls. THEN SHE STABBED MYRRINE AND LEFT HER FOR DEAD.

I was completely out of it, I tried everything i could to make sure everyone is safe, yet it resulted in my mother's death. The Fight Scene I longed for to save mother happened, with my mother dead. Then Finally I came to the realization that both of them will die on this mountain. I can't accept it.

    I paused the game.

    I am sad.

    I am destroyed.

The Family that I fought for is going to only have Nikolaos and Stentor.

    Stentor lives.

yet my mother doesn't get to.

    I'm blue.

Starting Origins. What are some essential tips?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 04:02 PM PDT

I am getting 100% of the trophies of all AC games. I just finished the prologue of Origins. I have the gold edition so I have a bunch of the add on gear which seems to be the best.

    Biggest questions:

I have 700 helix credits from seasons pass: what to spend it on

If I start the DLC, will that just face track me to max level? (Not that I really want to do that)

What are the best weapons and Skills to invest in? Or is just preference

    Thanks!

I started to hate AC Odyssey

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 08:05 AM PDT

This game is really boring filled with repetitive quests and environment felt same everywhere. Now I am playing this game for more than 30 hours planning to abandoned it, it keeps giving quest and I accepted full list of quests pending. At present situation, there no quality in Odyssey we missed old games even Origins was good. But this game is completely crap. I hope future games will focus more on quality

What are your opinions on AC4 cities?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 08:03 AM PDT

I literally started playing this game last week and is also like my first AC game outside bloodlines in the PSP. I really want to get into the series now but I also literally don't have a PS4 and haven't been a serious gamer since like HS. I focus on other things and older but gaming is something I used to love.

But back with my question, what do you think of Havana, Nassau, and Kingston? I have looked at other AC game plays and cities and for sure Paris in Unity and London in syndicate look god damn amazing. I honestly think the cities in AC4 are still nice especially Havana and I feel like people don't really like Kingston or Nassau but they are both decently sized cities. I also think AC4 is more about the open world than the cities but I do wish there was like another really big major city that was added like maybe Sam Juan in Puerto Rico or something.

AC game set in either the American Civil War or the English Civil War

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 08:34 AM PDT

Just wondering if anyone else is interested in seeing either of these eras in a future game. In my opinion, they would be great settings to explore as far as historical content, proper swordplay, and reigniting the Assassin/Templar philosophical conflict once again.

Would you be interested in this, and if so what would you include?
