Assassin's Creed Origins: did you name your camel?

    I named mine Mark Camel

(loving Origins btw. I played Odyssey first, but so far I think I like Origins even better)

    I wish I started with AC1

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 07:30 PM PST

(Don't worry, I haven't played Origins or Odysseus, so I'm not going to criticize those.) I'm not trying to argue anything. This is just for people thinking about AC1 I guess.

I don't know what to consider my starting game. The first game I played was technically either AC Pirates or AC Identity (mobile games before AC Rebellion; don't know what became of Pirates but Identity is still up). After lurking in the fandom for a bit, I looked to get a real main series game. The consensus on best games to start seemed to be AC2.

There was a sale on Steam. I bought AC2 because most said it was basically the best game and the best place to start. I bought AC Revelations because I wanted to play as Altair (even if just for a little bit) but the consensus on AC1 seemed to be that it was an outdated and clunky game not worth playing. And I got Rogue to because I thought playing as a Templar would be cool too. And somewhere along the line I got the Chronicles Russia game—I own it, but I can't remember why I bought it or when I bought it.

I tried all of these games, but I couldn't get into them. None of them could keep my interested or invested. But I still wanted to get into this series.

When the Notre Dame fire happened and Ubi gave Unity out free, I tried that game. Ultimately nothing came of it.

I realized the problem was I didn't feel like an Assassin. Other people seem to have that problem but only with Odyssey. But I didn't feel like an Assassin in any of those games, not even in AC2 which is seemingly the quintessential AC game. I realized AC1 was what I should've bought instead of any of those other games—although once I finish AC1 I will play them.

So I bought AC1 about a month or two ago, and I felt like an Assassin for the first time. It was truly amazing. I didn't feel like a random Renaissance Italian with a hidden blade or a random early modern Frenchman with a hidden blade. I was an Assassin—I didn't explore Renaissance Florence and Rome nor early modern Paris or Versailles—I was in the medieval Holy Land. The Templars weren't just bad guys, the Templars were Knights! The Templars were actually Knights Templar. And the Brotherhood felt like a Brotherhood, and it felt like a powerful and influential organization. And Altair was truly an Assassin! He wasn't just a man that found it by pure circumstance—he didn't join for revenge—he felt like he was part of it from the start.

I also felt irritated at the fandom though because it felt like I had been lied to about AC1. It is so amazing. To me it doesn't feel outdated. To me, the gameplay doesn't feel clunky. So for anyone that's looking: Don't let anyone scare you away from AC1. You'll regret not starting there.

I really hope there would be no character and gear leveling in the next AC.

It's quite stupid when the enemies become spongy. I really liked what was it before ACO.

I have been trying to defeat Tutankhamun for over a year.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 06:01 PM PST

I bought Origins at release with high hopes, loved it, and bought the DLC. I loved Hidden Ones, but CotP is grindy as hell, and I've been struggling to finish it. I'm generally not great at melee fights. And being stuck in a melee arena dying repeatedly is only pissing me off, and making me care less about anything else to do with the game.

I loved the early AC games for their stealth, because I didn't have to deal with this. I'd really just like to finish the damn game.

Why did Connor even fight in the War?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 03:26 PM PST

Connor being a part of the war always perplexed me. The war starts out as a backdrop that he uses once or twice for convenience to get to his targets, but then suddenly he's in colonial meetings and defending the front lines. The Templars were also on the side of the revolution, did Connor mention what stake he personally had in the war, especially when the generals, like Washington, kept fucking him over? Did I just miss something or was it just shoved in there to put the Assassins on the winning side of history?

[Odyssey]I gathered somewhat conclusive data on the Olympian gift droprate.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 07:28 AM PST

As some of you may know, i tried figuring out the droprate for olympian gifts 10 months ago. Now that the game lifecycle of Odyssey has ended, many more people on here and elsewhere have spent their Orichalcum which has brought us some new data and insight on olympian gifts. Besides the supposed droprate, i have also found some other interesting data on Sargon's shop.

In the data i gathered the smallest sample size was 25 olympian gifts and the largest one was 175 olympian gifts. Other sample sizes were multiple 50, 100 or other amounts inbetween. I combined those into different data sets for the conclusions.

    Olympian gift droprate

Sample size: n=825 (data from 825 olympian gifts)

Dropate: 5.555555556 (5,6). Which is essentially one shop item every 6 olympian gifts since you can't redeem half of a gift.

    Shop item clusters

Sample size: n=225 (data from 225 legendaries from olympian gifts)

    Cluster Amount Percentage
    Weapon 18 8%
    Armor 101 44.88888889% (44,89%)
    Ship 93 41.33333333% (41,33%)
    Mount 13 5.777777778% (5,78%)

    Notes:

    • So if you want a weapon or a mount from Sargon, you're out of luck
    • I had to cluster the different types because you would need a huge amount more data to get insight on the droprate of specific types or items

    Epic item droprates

Sample size: n=979 (epic item types from 979 olympian gifts)

    Type Amount Percentage
    Head slot 158 19.03614458% (19,04%)
    Torso slot 91 10.96385542% (10,96%)
    Arm slot 100 12.04819277% (12,05%)
    Waist slot 105 12.65060241% (12,65%)
    Leg slot 104 12.53012048% (12,53%)
    Bow 27 3.253012048% (3,25%)
    Sword 69 8.313253012% (8,31%)
    Dagger 20 2.409638554% (2,41%)
    Staff 31 3.734939759% (3,73%)
    Spear 52 6.265060241% (6,27%)
    Heavy bladed 33 3.975903614% (3,98%)
    Heavy blunt 40 4.819277108% (4,82%)

    Notes:

    • Bows and daggers are very rare
    • The total amount of epics in this list of olympian gifts are 830, 149 were legendary (hence the sample size of 979)

Frequency (amount of items between store items)

Sample size: n=960 (data on frequency in 960 olympian gifts)

X items between store items Amount Percentage
    0 25 12.13592233% (12,14%)
    1 16 7.766990291% (7,77%)
    2 40 19.41747573% (19,42%)
    3 32 15.53398058% (15,53%)
    4 22 10.67961165% (10,68%)
    5 19 9.223300971% (9,22%)
    6 20 9.708737864% (9,71%)
    7 8 3.883495146% (3,88%)
    8 8 3.883495146% (3,88%)
    9 5 2.427184466% (2,43%)
    10 0 0% (0%)
    11 3 1.45631068% (1,46%)
    12 2 0.9708737864% (0,97%)
    13 2 0.9708737864% (0,97%)
    14 1 0.4854368932% (0,49%)
    15 3 1.45631068% (1,46%)

    Notes:

    • There does seem to be some kind of bad luck mitigation, seeing as the amount between not getting an item drops fast after 6 gifts and the large amount of consecutive shop items
    • The data indicated, always showed getting a shop item after getting 15 'normal items'. It looks like this drop is guaranteed.
    • The luckiest person in the data managed to roll 4 consecutive legendaries
    • The unluckiest person(s) in the data managed to roll 15 'normal items' without getting a shop item

    Final notes:

    • Rare items (blues) are incredibly rare from olympian gifts. Of a sample size of over a 1000, only 6 were rare items
    • Just like last time, your orichalcum is better spent on the weekly selection legendaries than on olympian gifts
    • More data would lead to an even clearer picture of how Sargon's shop works, but i think this is the most we're going to get unless Ubi releases official droprates

The AC concert last night in Hollywood was a bit disappointing.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 10:07 AM PST

Overall the music was good but for an event like this inside the Dolby Theatre they kept the concert quite tame. I was expecting they would play the 4-5 best tracks each game each but save the powerful Ezio Trilogy music they really did a disservice to the other games. For example when ACIII came up JUST played "fight club". They skipped entirely the main theme of 3 and the amazing "Trouble in town". Instead they played a really unmemorable uncinematic background track. When Black Flag came up they did touch on its main theme but for the rest of its run played more slower unmemorable music. Black Flag is overflowing with outstanding Brian Tyler tracks like "Men of War" "Stealing a Brig" "Pyrates Beware" & "A pirates life". They didnt play any of those. As someone who has listened to the ACIV album on repeat It was a letdown. Though I did appreciate Anne Bonneys final song which was very touching I was mad they skipped all the other tracks. Same thing happened when Origins and Odyssey came up. Brief plays of the main then not the best tracks just mediocre ones. but Best patt of the night was the orgasmically good Brotherhood action theme with percussion and when Ezios actor and Jesper Lynd and Sarah of Orgins came out on stage.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 10:27 AM PST

I hope Ubi learns something from companies like cdpr or rockstar games and not stuff the map with the shitty side quests like they usually do. Bring some context and a short story to them so people actully have fun leveling up.

Season management in next gen AC?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 08:13 AM PST

    Hey,

What do you think of the probability the next AC features season cycle management? In my opinion, it could add a lot to the immersion in the open world. Imagine Britain covered with snow in winter and totally different in other seasons. It could also be a trick to introduce variety in the game if it is located in Scandinavia and Britain, as these locations may not feature as much diversity as the different biomes in ACOd for instance.

Anyway, I hope Ubi will take advantage of the 2 year break for AC and next gen consoles to offer a mind-blowing open world.

Interview: Cristian Chihaia from Ubisoft on art direction of Assassin's Creed games

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 09:30 AM PST

Has anyone found out how close you have to be to Collectibles so they show up on the map?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 09:17 AM PST

Couldnt find an answer to this anywhere, maybe someone here has found this out? If there has been a recent post about this, Im sorry, please redirect me :D

Especially in AC Syndicate, where you have to spend like 10 Bucks on the maps Id be interested to know. Is it once they are within the boundaries of the minimap? Do i have to look at them? With eagle vision? How does that work? Wouldnt it be possible to just hide in a cart and let it drive me around randomly for a night or so and have everything show up on the map?

Thank you to anyone that might have an insight into this :D

How to make the next AC perfect?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 01:29 AM PST

Tl;dr combine the most successful aspects of all games to make the perfect game. Make gameplay smooth and enjoyable, as a realistic experience but keeping it fun and true to AC.

Here's the thing. I don't think ppl want exact realism. It means less fantasy aspects from Odyssey's god-like abilities and monsters. Sure it was cool to have insane abilities and avoid fall dmg, but I agree AC Vikings could be better off as a new balanced AC game. All the fans complaining "I just want to be an assassin again" aren't wrong, but they aren't totally right either (in the sense that Ubi needs to change the whole damn Odyssey style).

Imo I would be happy if they make Vikings more "realistic" and as a balance between the different titles' best elements; Unity's satisfying parkour, (they even removed some of the mountain climbing animations from III!), Odyssey's good/likeable features, etc. and combine everything. It makes sense how every game is different when different devs make each game. They've been throwing out a new one each year with new stuff.

But honestly I think the devs who made Black Flag and Origins are amazing. Origins wasn't perfect but I thought the combat and climbing was breath of fresh air. Looking back I kind of can't play it lol bc Odyssey improved a lot. But Odyssey isn't perfect either. However I don't think it was bad to go the "Isu way".

Taste is subjective, so there'll always be someone who want the less popular thing. BotW was almost 100% perfect to me. Yet I can't stand the gameplay of Witcher 3 lol. So let's hope Ubi listens and tries their best to do the right things both in details and mechanics, feel

and OHHH maybe add an option for console players to enable 60 fps over 4k? I don't need all the fancy graphics. If it means I can get 60 fps. Also my PC can't run Origins and Odyssey bc it swallows your CPU smh. Ok peace guys.

Copied from my comment on "realistic AC pls"

Anyone remember where the crew of the Jackdaw hang out while docked at Great Inagua?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 05:54 AM PST

I'm replaying Black Flag and I distinctly remember a beach, accessable through a jungle path on the island with Edward's mansion, where some of the crew were drinking and enjoying their time ashore.

I'm bothered because I've made it to the edges of the island and I've done a few missions since you take it as your own, but I can't seem to locate my revelling pirates.
