Returning to AC II has reminded me of the beauty of this series (not an Odyssey hate post)

AC II is and has always been one of my favourite games of all time.

It perfectly blended narrative, visuals, score and sound design into a package that felt very "un-Ubisoft". I don't mean that as a criticism, rather there was a love put into it that extended beyond a simple sequel or franchise-bait, it was the definition of a legacy. A legacy that the series still uses as goodwill for each new release.

Playing the game at 4K 30fps through the Ezio Collection, I have been able to appreciate the INSANE detail put into Renaissance Italy. The arts, the street culture, the LIFE. All of it feels like a Renaissance painting in itself, and a testament to the hours of research and time put into it.

Though the series has succeeded in this area since there is one clear defintion that sets AC II apart from the flock: it feels like an AC game that just so happens to occur during the Renaissance, rather than an AC game including it. Though I very much enjoyed AC Black Flag and Rogue, it definitely felt as though those games FEATURED their time periods rather than were OF them (a problem that continued throughout the series).

Though I am a fan of the newer games, particularly Origins which I felt captured the same vibe AC II did with it's setting, returning to the Ezio trilogy has reminded me these games haven't aged a day. Sure some of the mechanics are outdated or have been refined through the years, but ultimately it will not only be one of the best Assassin's Creed games, but one of the best games of all time.

Played through Unity again after rushing through the first time round. It feels like a Hollywood production.

From the amazing voice acting, mocap, writing etc. It honestly feels like A list movie effort was put into its cutscenes, animations etc and it absolutely shows.

Oh well, guess it's time to wait for the next Rockstar game now that we have news that Ubisoft is sticking to their current formula.

You know what makes me salty about AC3?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 06:33 PM PDT

Why did they take the time to make a fully custom sword animation set for Connor, but they didn't take the time to make a dagger animation set? I wouldnt mind Connor using the same sword animations as haytham, they could just pass it off as Achilles instructing him in proper sword technique, but hitting enemies with thick coats using the broad edge of a knife isn't going to do much. Daggers don't work using the same animations as tomahawks, they need their own to be convincing.

Ezio's full name works surprisingly well when you replace inigo Montoya with it

A Viking Assassin's Creed can work just like Black Flag story wise

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 10:02 AM PDT

The reason I love Black Flag is because the protagonist isn't born into the order or join it for revenge on someone, it's because it's about a selfish man slowly learning what the assassins' ideals are and what they mean. Especially considering the contrast between Edward's comments on the assassins' beliefs when first meeting them and just before joining them.

I believe a Viking Assassin's Creed can work the same way story wise. You can start off as a Viking seeking only riches and performing raids, who slowly would change his views on the world and his cause.

Oh and some gameplay things that would be cool would be having a longship crew being assassin recruits and conquest battles being switched to raids.

Odyssey's Discovery Tour proved me right about the camera and inmersion

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 08:34 PM PDT

Since the first time I played Odyssey I knew something was wrong, the map is beautiful and full with vibrant colors, but still it didn't felt right, later I realized the camera is far away from your character, making the buildings look small and giving you the felling that you (Alexios/Kassandra) are not really there.

Yet with the newly released Discovery Tour, you can put the game in first person, and I loved it, I knew that was this game needed for it to feel better, al the temples and buildings in general feel way better, bigger and more marvelous, Ubi should think about zooming the camera a little bit closer, that would improve the game.

    What do you guys think?

    Odyssey: Kassandra Talking to Bryce

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 10:38 PM PDT

I just wanna rant a tiny bit, it's really not that big of a deal I just think it's funny that I'm not the leader of The Daughters of Artemia and when you get the disk for the Writhing Dread the woman's like "Oh so you're our leader? Okay watch out for the bears lol" but when you're talking to Bryce she asks if you killed anyone and you're not able to talk to her about being the leader. I guess maybe Ligeia doesn't know I'm the leader so Bryce doesn't know? Anyways, just wanted to say something about that lmao.

How has AC's sales figures been over the years?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 12:41 PM PDT

I see a lot of concerns here about Origins and (especially) Odyssey not being proper AC games -- not just the era/story decisions, but overall structure. While this is a dedicated fan area, I was wondering if this has impacted the overall sales of the games, sales being Ubisoft's main goal.

Have there been any recent reports that compare game sales like, Black Flag onward? I've looked around and found "Big Day One Odyssey sales" stories, but nothing over the long term.

For what it's worth, I have no horse in this. I enjoy both the city-wide playgrounds and the more open-world stuff.

Issues with AC3 Switch Combat Issues

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 07:21 PM PDT

Since the 1.0.2 Switch Update, I jumped back into AC3. However, one bug to constantly troubling me is the fact that combat just isnt fair or responsive.

Specifically, enemies will attack without indicators and be uncounterable (I would be standing still, not mid animation, and mashing/holding A just wont trigger any block animation). At times, whole combos will occur without an indicator and I'll be forced to just take it.

Also, sometimes enemies will not react to my attacks. I'll break their defense or hit them only for them to remain standing, unflinching, and hit me (not like a countering animation). I hate this, it breaks immersion so much for me that my badass assassin is being tossed around by some basic grunts.

This seems to happen more often when there are a lot of enemies fighting me and the game can't handle all of their code at once.

Tl,dr- Enemies randomly ignore my attacks and blocks.

What makes Assassins “Chaos” in the whole Order and Chaos thing Odyssey was trying to push?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 02:11 PM PDT

Even in Origins I can't find a single thing that makes Bayek, Hidden Ones or Assassins "chaotic" or potray chaos. I'm not a bug fan of the concept of "Order Vs. Chaos" and personally think that the idea is a misunderstanding of what either group actually is. Never really saw it in Odyssey either, just people referencing "order vs chaos". It seems like they tried to make it more clear with Fate of Atlantis, but even then I'm still lost on how "chaos" could represent the Assassins. Sure, you could use examples like Pierre Bellec, or the Assassins in Rogue but that can be better explained as bad apples more than the Assassins representing something like "chaos" itself.

I'm starting to think that the whole "chaos vs. Order" thing was just something Quebec came up with regardless of what Origins and Ubi Montreal were trying to do.

What I want from the next Assassin's Creed game

What old mechanics do you wish to see again in future games?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 08:22 AM PDT

I can say that now Oydssey it's my favorite game of the franchise, it has a very beautiful world and excellent gameplay, tho I can't help to wonder that I do miss some old mechanichs, like blending in crowds, sit on a chair, hidden blade assassinations, the brotherhood aspect and others.

What are some of the old mechanics that you wish to see again? or improved upon?

    So, Ubiworkshop is Dead?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 09:27 AM PDT

As I do every fall season to prepare for Black Friday shopping, I decided to hop onto Ubiworkshop to see what was available in their Assassin's Creed line, as I wouldn't mind grabbing the Bayek backpack or the Ezio Hoodie...but nothing is there. AC Kinetic is gone, all the pins are gone, even the new Ezio Mentor hoodie they recently released; just gone. Up through their Odyssey merch, poof. Honestly, this is super depressing, because I really liked Ubiworkshop's Assassin's Creed gear, it was exclusive apparel and pieces of art that simply didn't exist anywhere else.

So, what the hell happened? Is AC such a dying franchise that none of their merch is worth more than being flung into their clearance section and left to rot?

Problem with lost tales of greece (spoiler?)

    Posted: 11 Sep 2019 02:04 PM PDT

(sorry for my english) hello guys! I have just finished the missions of this dlc and i have a problem. the last mission i did was the one for barnaba and when i met the witch circe i did drink her wine. If you remember, kassandra faints and when she wakes up she has 25% hp, and she has that hp for the rest of the mission. But now that i finished the mission i still have 25% hp! It doesn't regenerate automatically and the ability "second chance" (this is the italian name) doesn't work. It happened yesterday and i thought that today would be different but i loaded the game and i still have 1/4 hp..... Did it happen to someone else?
