Never played Syndicate but after finishing my third replay of Unity, I'm interested

    Posted:

I've appreciated Unity more in my replays of it. It's immersive, beautiful, assassiny. Ultimately its story and the characters are pretty flat, especially being the follow up to Black Flag. But I love the setting, the beautiful urbanscape of Paris, etc. Syndicate seems to capture this vibe but I have yet to play it. If I enjoyed Unity would I enjoy Syndicate too?

Why do I enjoy Origins more than Valhalla?

    Posted:

It's hard to explain. On the surface Valhalla has a massive interesting environment, raids, beautiful medieval towns, etc. Its open world and characters are better than Origins. Its world and quests feel more alive. Vikings are so interesting to me and I love the early medieval era, but for some reason there's some pizazz or magic that it lacks that Origins has.

Maybe it's the little things? Like the color palette of origins is more interesting, the ambiance of the environment is more mysterious in origins. I can't put my finger on it. Like Unity too, after replaying it, there was definitely a more immersive "suck-you-into-the-setting" magic that Unity has that Valhalla lacks.

ALWAYS LISTEN TO BRASIDAS! (Spoilers for parts of the main story containing Brasidas) AC Odyssey

    Posted:

I have found that it is always an intelligent decision to listen to Brasidas over the other person whether it happens to be Anthousa or Myrrine. Like when he tells you to take down the monger silently, do it. Because later on, this will affect the quest to take down the Archon, Lagos. If you kill the monger quietly you can convince Lagos to leave the cult. If not you have to kill him. If you kill Lagos you do not have sufficient evidence to accuse the cultist king.

I'd like an AC game in Vienna, Germany, and Austria leading into WW1

    Posted:

I think it'd be an interesting period because many great thinkers occupied Vienna around this time. Specifically, Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, and Frederick Nietchze. It'd be interesting to see their interpretations of the Creeds, how the Assassins and Templars fit into the murder of Franz Ferdinand, and any long standing consequences of Syndicate.

Might not be mind blowing, but I think it'd be fun and the cities would help with the "Open Field Fatigue" some players have mentioned here.

Aside from feudal Japan, what setting do you think would benefit from the new gameplay systems?

I appreciate the resourcefulness of Connor Kenway while fighting.

    Posted:

He used his environment so well. Men as body shields and using enemy muskets. Using the detachable hidden blade as a knife while using a single handed weapon. Chain kills, multi-takedowns all lead to ACIII, IMO, being the most fluid and fun combat AC has had to date.

Thanks for being a killing machine Connor.

Do you prefer Odyssey or Valhalla? What about your favourite one do you prefer?

    Posted:

I love both games, although I think I prefer the setting of Odyssey, however I have an Xbox Series X and the graphics and 60fps on Valhalla on the SX are just amazing. If they optimized Odyssey for the Series X I think it would probably be my favourite.

Assassins Creed 3 on Xbox One S

    Posted:

So AC3 is backwards compatible on Xbox One and has 2 discs. Do I need to only install 1 Disc or both. If I only need to install 1, what about the other. I know back then, you would need both discs, so I'm wondering how it is now on Xbox One. If anyone helps, I'll already say thanks in advance.

Do you think Ubi would add more hidden blade combat techniques in valhalla? I was reading some other discussions and though of how great this would be.

    Posted:

It's only really one attack when your really fighting, I guess you could argue eivor isn't a "assassin" but we saw more hidden blade like action in the trailer and I feel a little disappointed with how underwhelming the combat with it was.

[Spoilers]Question regarding Atlantis, Vallhala and Isu

    Posted:

So if I understand this correctly Atlantis and Vallhala that the we saw in Odyssey and AC Vallhala are not how the cities or the people in them actually looked like, but the interpretations of the protagonists of this places in a simulation?

Otherwise it would be pretty stupid, that Atlantis looked like ancient Greece for example. Not to mention armor and weapons, since the Isu are an super advanced civilization. And it doesnt make sense that they use swords and spears and not some laser blasters lol. I also asked myself how comes if the Isu were so super advanced and they didnt developed Space travel or even colonies on other planets.

I hope one day we gonna have the opportunity to visit an actual Isu place and not an interpretation of the place.

Valhalla is a major improvement on Odyssey and Origins

    Posted:

Edit: Interesting, this post seems quite controversial. I guess Valhalla isn't very popular on this Reddit? Honestly that scares me because the last thing I want is a return to the one-note gameplay and shallow worldbuilding of Odyssey. I guess people liked Odyssey as a pure combat and fort-clearing sandbox but that's really not what I want from AC games.

    Original post:

I was hopeful Valhalla would be better than Odyssey but it's actually surpassed my expectations. I'm really impressed with how much effort they put into giving each area its own stories and reasons to explore - gone are those awful copy-pasted forts and tombs, gone are the horrible collectibles that just reward you with engravings, now it really feels like there's a reason to explore every area because it feels like the old AC formula of giving you a variety of stuff to do and collect is back. And every activity or feature is nested within larger activities and features to make the world feel more cohesive - just like old AC. Even little things like putting notes in the locations that give more backstory to each region helps a lot.

I like that there's a greater focus on stealth and parkour and that they made some effort to tighten up the animations and make Eivor's movement feel a little more cinematic. It's still nowhere near something like Unity obviously, but it's certainly better than Odyssey. And he's no assassin but at least Eivor can actually be low-key and do proper stealth kills again. And what a great, chilled but badass character Eivor is. I have no complaints about male Eivor whatsoever and that's rare these days.

And the visuals - this game is doing stuff with smoke and water and depth of field and light and color that I haven't seen any other game do. It's utterly gorgeous and a huge step up from Odyssey. For years now AC games have stood out as some of the most beautiful games of their generations and Valhalla may just be the series' finest moment. The directed cut scenes are god tier but even the regular scenes are very impressive because of the ingame lighting and effects. It really draws you into the world.

Then there are the good things from Odyssey and Origins that got even better - the quality of life features like autopilot to your destination, cinematic cameras - even the ships have it now. AC games don't get enough credit for this stuff.

I guess the one slightly controversial element is the combat. I'm enjoying it but its been slow going expanding my moveset or finding new weapons, and the repetitive finishing moves that take control of the camera do get a bit annoying. I wasn't a big fan of the Odyssey loot grind but I can't say Valhalla's combat has necessarily been better so far. Hopefully, it will get better when I unlock more abilities but Odyssey certainly gave you more to have fun with much earlier.

All in all though - this is the best AC game in quite some time - hell the best Ubisoft game period in a long time. It's very rare to have a game this expansive maintain such a high level of quality at multiple levels. Well done guys.

[Valhalla] Has there been any word on if they're adding a New Game Plus feature?

    Posted:

As far as I've heard, this isn't in the game right now.

Have they said if they're planning to add it? I haven't found anything, so just wondering if I might've missed it.

How historically accurate is the Jack the Ripper DLC in syndicate?

I have recently been studying Jack the Ripper in History, and found it very interesting. How accurate is the DLC? Do they increase the number of victims? Do they include famous elements like the 'Dear boss' letter?

What is stealth like in Valhalla?

    Posted:

The only AC game I've played is black flag back on my Xbox 360, and I recently got Valhalla for free during a bundle event with some pc hardware I bought. I'm still waiting to get a good enough graphics card to run it but before I do I wanted to ask about the stealth in this game.

I've loved watching stealth videos for odyssey, but since I've never played it or any other ac game I don't know whether the stealth is actually good or not. How does the Valhalla stealth compare to it? Since the game is all about vikings it doesn't sound like there is much stealthiness to it, is it possible to still play that way?

the next should take place in the middle east or asia

    Posted:

    1. Indian subcontinent during the middle ages or the Mughal dynasty or the Chola dynasty
    2. Islamic Golden Age Baghdad
    3. Persia (Anything from Achaemenid empire to Safavid empire, All of them are interesting)
    4. Ancient Mesopotamia (Babylon, Uruk, Nineveh etc..)
    5. China (Preferably with Shao Jun as the protagonist)

All these settings would be equally great and would be cool if AC could avoid Europe and America for the next few settings.

I hope we get atleast one of these settings in the next installment. They are so cool

Black Flag on Switch can not get Kenways Fleet

    Posted:

Hey has anyone else had this bug on Switch? I complete the missions required to get the fleet, and my quartermaster sends me to the cabin to look at "logs and papers". On previous playthroughs this gave me access to Kenways Fleet.

Now I open the fleet, and can't do anything. It says no ships are available. Normally it starts you with a few schooners i think.. I go capture a few ships, select the "send to Kenways fleet" option, but they never show up.

I've restarted the memory, cycled power on Switch, and even started a new character and slogged through main quest to start from scratch. Still no ships available. What am I missing?

Did you enjoy Black Flag more that Ezio Colletion?

    Posted:

    Hi all,

After I bought a PS5, I decided to go back and play old AC games that I never got around to playing the first time. Everyone seemed to rave about the Ezio Collection, but I gotta tell ya, I have not enjoyed it. The game mechanics are terrible (IMHO). I realize that I'm comparing it to today's standards, but still, I'm almost through with Revelations and it just hasn't been that fun. I had already done AC III, so my next up is Black Flag, which is also one that people seem to rave about. So my question to those who've played both, is there something about Black Flag that is a huge improvement over the Ezio Collection? I'm going to do it either way, I was just wondering.

What do the armour and weapon stats mean?

    Posted:

So I just got assassins creed valhalla which is my first AC game since revelations (probably should of played origins and odyssey first) and have no idea what the armour and weapon stats mean and what I should look for when selecting armour and weapons or does it not matter. Also how do I get armour and weapons I'm not too far into the story just got the hidden blade and spent like 2 hours getting the yellow spot treasures on the map. Would also appreciate any tips for what type of weapons I should be using and just anything in general about the game. Edit: What shield stats should I look for as well forgot to mention that before posting

Playing AC1 and AC2 the same time and comparison.

    Posted:

Never played 1 before and my second AC2 play through. Killed Vieri de Pazzi in AC2 and completed the first two assassinations in AC1. Just acquired throwing knives in both

    Now comparing both,

    1) Masyaf vs Monteriggioni

Yes I know, Monteriggioni is love but that mysterious castle high up in the mountain filled with assassins vibe. That strikes me in a different note. I find the Masyaf village cooler with it's verticality. I know Monteriggioni is supposed to be subtle , and a physical embodiment of hiding in plain sight, and the fact that we can renovate stuff, we have stuff otherthan training to in Monteriggioni. But still, Masyaf seems cooler than Monteriggioni. Also seeing assassins guard the mountain pass to Masyaf from the Kingdom mapbmakes it so much cooler. Leaving from Masyaf to Jerusalem/Damascus really does feel like leaving home

    2) Outside the city walls.

Both games have countryside/outside city areas. But AC1 does really nail the midevial fantasy vibe. The Kingdom map is fantastic, with ways leading to all three cities and Masyaf pass being guarded by Assassins. Crusader and Sacrean guards at different parts of the Country. It has different viewpoints, and we have to use blend to bypass guard patrols(or just speed them away). It does make sense riding in a horse as we actually need to use a horse to travel, unlike AC2 which seems to have a countryside just for the sake of it. AC2 country side is just beautiful, but boringly flat green grass. The sense of freedom in AC1 is amazing, we're in the Kingdom and we can choose where we want to go, there are pathways to all cities. We don't have to do like first go to Tuscany, Forli and then go to Venice. Getting into a city by blending into monks/bypassing using patrol never gets old, and the vibe of getting into a city from outside is amazing. Sure it gets tiring with all the riding and absense of fast travel, but the countryside seems to be more fleshed out and seems to have more purpose in AC1

    3) Cities

This is something AC2 hands on nails. Jerusalem and Damascus doesn't feel very different, and aren't that interesting. There are not much landmarks, and the buildings arent that grand. AC2 did a wonderful job with the grand cities of Renaissance Italy. More suitable for parkour, actual rooftops, interesting landmarks amd wonderful architecture. Most importantly, the cities are filled with meaningful content other than mindless "save the citizen" in AC1. AC1 cities aren't that good for parkour too, ledges are lacking and some pathways are so dark. A lot of squares is what we see while running above. The town criers are cool tho. I still don't get why interrogation/pickpocket stuff show up right when we arrive in a city. Aren't they supposed to show up after we contact the local bureau? Btw having a bureau in town is cool af.

    4) Gameplay

AC1 has very interesting dialogues. I can listen to Al Mualim for hours, but the game doesn't have any subtitles(or is it just me?). This just makes the investigation missions much worse. The loop of investigation/pickpocket is very unsatisfying, but the actual assassinations and targets seem interesting. It's much difficult to parkour in AC1, with Altair being slow, and the cities not really being helpful. Not much instances to use stuff like side eject to traverse faster. The combat is kinda same in both, but it feels more challenging in AC1. But lacks the badass vibe and creativity. I however do feel, guard outfits are ugly ass in AC2 and does affect how combat feels. I'm yet to obtain more equipment in both. Being chased by guards is hell in AC1 compared to AC2. AC1 guards seem to be climbing and following faster and also we have less hiding spots. More frustrating than enjoyable. Also I find myself trying to air assassinate guards and failing in AC1

Conclusion: Even though I love AC2, I do admire how organic AC1 feels. It really does capture the Assassin vibe very well. It does not just recreate cities, but gives a midevial world fantasy that we all yearned to. Like when we played Prince of Persia, a part of us wanted to explore the ourskirts when showed.. What if we could go there. However I know AC2 only gets better and heard AC1 gets repetitive and boring as we move on.
