Was there any significant reaction from the Indigenous Peoples to Assassin's Creed III?

I have a friend who's really into studying Indigenous culture, and when I told her about this game, she was curious about its development, its cultural sensitivity, and its potential impact. I tried doing a search online for any articles from the time the game came out, but came up with nothing. Just wondering if anyone else would have insight.

What assassin or game do you think would make the best movie? You can only use one game for the source material!

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 08:12 PM PDT

I know this may be controversial, but I think Unity and Arno would make the best movie given what we have been given in the game. It has tragedy, a revenge plot, and a romantic plot all built into the game! If they just have him be the kind of confident and smug type of character he is at the beginning of the game more so than the depressed and distant character that he becomes later, I think it would translate to film really well!

    Subject 16 and Valhalla’s MD set up a perfect AC0 scenario [AC:B, AC:R, and AC:V SPOILERS]

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 09:02 AM PDT

I've had this theory bumping around in the noggin for a minute, but this recent post got my wheels turning on it again. There's been dozens of different posts here wondering on the enigma that is Clay Kaczmarek, Subject 16 and Assassin that broke under Abstergo pressure, not to mention tortured mentally by Juno for over a year before she set her sights on Desmond.

Valhalla's modern day places emphasis on the "Sage/Reborn" project, reincarnation, the Calculations, the Yggdrasil Device and The Gray, how all that can and has worked, and most importantly, the fact that Desmond : The Reader and Layla too now have the opportunity to explore billions of alternate timelines.

With this last point especially, we have clear confirmation that Juno wasn't lying to John Standish in her encrypted emails where she said "Everyone can join us. Desmond...Clay...they're all here", meaning with her inside The Gray. This (loosely) must mean Clay is still inside The Gray too, just as The Reader was and is! We hear no hide nor hair of him in Valhalla, but he could still be watching over Desmond in the background!

"But wait, didn't he get deleted in Revelations?", you may ask, and you're absolutely right. His construct of himself was put into the Animus 1.28 before his suicidal blood messages were left for the next Subject to find. Desmond then used the same Animus bed to relive Altaïr's life and Ezio's birth, when Lucy takes the core housing Clay's contructed consciousness and these memories to the Assassins.

The core then gets implemented into Rebecca's 2.0-2.02. In Brotherhood's Glyph video ending, we see when Desmond first meets the wireframe entity calling himself Subject 16, that tells Desmond of his unknown son Elijah, and how he needs to find Eve, meaning Layla Hassan must be a descendant of Eve just like Galina Voronina (I thought it odd Galina never got the payoff for that line).

Then of course for Revelations, Desmond is locked comatose onto Animus Island inside his mind, where he meets Clay in "person", and by the end of the game Clay sacrifices "himself" digitally to buy Desmond time to wake up.

But what if I told you Brotherhood's Subject 16 and Revelations' Subject 16 could be 2 separate entities? Or at the very least, that Juno could've created a copy of Clay herself, apart from the one seen in both games, potentially?

Why I lean on the first being what Juno did was there had to be a reason she name-dropped both Desmond and Clay in her email. We've also now seen what the wireframe entity looks like against The Reader's pure light, and while obviously different, the similarities in lack of defining features is worthy of note.

Long explanation out of the way, I've seen so many "what I wanna see" posts pop up that don't fully lay the foundation for a canon story to be pulled from, so I wanted to be thorough on how this Modern Day possibility has merit.

Essentially, if Clay is in The Gray alongside The Reader and The Heir of Memories, he'd have the possibility to poke his head into their timeline research at any time to clear that thread up. Or - what I'd prefer - we could see inside one of these teal timelines we see spring out of the Calculator of Futures. One where Clay could've matched his non-canon version "Michael" seen in the 1| - 6| Les Deux Royaumes comics, escaping Abstergo to faint and feint back into Assassin custody, and THEN have him show himself still alive in The Gray as the ending.

An AC0 could give us unequivocal confirmation whether the wireframe entity from Brotherhood was indeed Desmond himself, as theorized by this video so long ago, which now knowing The Reader to be alive lends even more credence, or if there's a possibility Juno copied Clay's consciousness when she finally won him over in Memory 7 of the Lost Archive to continue her research on him, allowing that Clay to reach out from The Gray, while Clay made his construct that eventually saved Desmond's mind from "deletion".

The burning question I think deserves a game's attention from on this though is simple: Why did Juno root around in Clay's mind for over a year, when she only needed 4 months to enact her ultimate plan through Desmond, a distant cousin? What was she searching for for so long?

All of Clay's canonical life ends before Desmond's abduction on Sept. 1st of 2012, so an AC0 following his demise would make for a nice bow tying Valhalla back to the very first Assassin's Creed, but also being an alternate timeline opens the avenues for Clay to escape alive, possibly warn the Assassins of Lucy's betrayal (which he knew), possibly even following similar events of the non-canon-for-now Les Deux Royaumes comics where he meets Desmond in the flesh!

If Ubisoft is listening, take my idea for free. If anyone has their own additions here that would tie the two games even more, let's bounce theories in the comments!

    [Assasin'sCreedOdyssey] Are "pets" worth it?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 05:31 PM PDT

So I'm replaying Odyssey in nightmare dificulty and wanted to know if should I spend my time and ability points with pets, I tried with a wolf and a lioness and they both died quickly. But if I could get one that lasts at least long enough for me to care about like even if it doesn't help me at all would still be happy.

Also if you could tell me which other abilities are worth more.

Would be nice if the transmog system worked across different bow types

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 03:05 PM PDT

For example, I love how the longbow looks but I hate predator bows. If I could take the visual style of the longbow and apply it to a hunter bow, that would be awesome.

Is there a certain point I need to reach in Valhalla in order to receive my store items?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 09:10 PM PDT

AC Valhalla NPC AI Vs Origins Vs Odyssey

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 01:30 PM PDT

    Hello,

What do you think of the NPC AI in Valhalla compared to AC Origins and Odyssey? I mean do NPC feel alive with detailed schedules like the other two games, or better or worse?

Also do bandits, by example, attack other soldiers on the road randomly in Valhalla? I noticed that in Odyssey where random encounters could happen between different factions. Maybe in Origins I don't know.

    Thanks

[Ac odyssey] I'm stuck on 95.75% of regions unlocked

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 08:50 AM PDT

I finished the main story of AC valhalla and decided to go achievement hunting in odyssey and I'm stuck on one of them where you have to u cover all sub regions in the game. I'm assuming this means all places with a white border around them and I have no places left, does it include dlc places such as the underworld and atlantis or not and if not what should I do?

Can someone share a link to a FULL play list for the Assassin's Creed games? (A FULL LIST, not just the major releases - including spinoffs)

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 03:30 PM PDT

Usually the internet is very smart and you can find all the info you need, but for some reason the internet seems to be very, very stupid , incomplete and thoroughly confused about the AC play list.

I'm looking for EVERY AC game, in their order... including the spin-off games such as AC3: Liberation, the "AC Chronicles"-style games, etc.

I don't want to flame any specific sites, but a few of them have already lead me astray and gotten me to download the wrong games - which I noticed while I was downloading them and looking at other websites and other AC game reviews and such.

It seems the interwebs can't seem to figure out that there are, in fact, other AC games other than AC1, AC2, AC3 and then AC4. I want to play the games as if I was time-synched with someone who played the first AC game, when it first came out, and then got that feeling of anticipation and joy when the next AC game was announced and then released.

    Thanks everyone in advance!

Thank you Darby McDevitt. I have finally decided to move on from the franchise.

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 11:46 PM PDT

You had a heavy hand in crafting my love for the franchise. Revelations and black flag will always stay with me, as will the other games from 1-4. I realise now that the glory days are never coming back and the games are entirely different from what they used to be, and that my hope is misplaced. Thank you for what you have done for the franchise, I will also be leaving it behind but not forgetting the early games and how special they truly are.

Beating AC4: Black Flag without ship upgrades: A (Video) Guide

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 05:37 AM PDT

I have been sitting on these videos for a while now because I wanted to edit them all together into a nice video guide. However I am too lazy for that so it never would have happened. I figured I might as well share them as they are and write down my thoughts instead.

    My rules

    • No boarding ships while in combat (so no mid-combat healing). This is basically cheating, and realistically other ships would just park next to you and unload all their shot into your ship.

    • No Upgrades beyond what the game forces you to get, which are Hull lv.2, Broadside cannons lv.2 and the diving bell.

    • I can reload checkpoints if I can manage to reach the checkpoint with full health (because your health and that of enemies gets replenished after reloading). A health segment also replenishes once you leave active combat, so you can fall to ~70% health and still have full health a few seconds later.

    • Upgrades for Edward himself and cosmetic upgrades for the Jackdaw are allowed.

    • For the videos, I only show mandatory combat. If ships can be avoided, then I will. I also start with Proper Defenses because I expect everyone to have a similar experience during the pirating tutorial with Hornigold because everyone will have a base Jackdaw here. You can click on a mission name to see my video, and a full playlist of them is here.

    General Tips

    • Bracing becomes basically mandatory and can mean the difference between life and death.

    • While bracing, you lose the ability to turn. If you turn hard just before you brace, you keep your turning momentum while bracing at the same time. Can be useful is some situations.

    • The edges of the screen will flash if you are about to collide with something. Helpful if you are looking at something else.

    • Your crew and quartermaster actually shout helpful information. Your health, enemy types, when an enemy fires and collision courses are all things your crew will tell you, which is useful since you can't look everywhere at once.

With that out of the way, let's start. Also spoilers for the entire game, obviously.

    Proper Defenses

This mission mainly teaches you to how to avoid ship mortars, which will become an invaluable skill later. The skirmish with the gunboats later can be a bit scary, but ironically is easier than normal since we don't have to worry about full sync with unaimable heavy shot.

    The Forts

Again, pretty easy. The fort itself only has two towers and they don't have a lot of health. Ignore the brig and focus on the fort, because once the fort goes down you lose aggro and can safely dock. This mission teaches you about fort mortars, which unlike their ship counterparts must physically travel to their impact point. This means you often can safely sail through the danger zone even after it has turned red. It takes about 3-5 seconds after you hear the mortars being fired for them to hit you, depending on distance, so use this to your advantage. More on forts later. This is also the first mission where the game recommends you upgrade your ship.

    Devil's Advocate

You can avoid combat when you search for Blackbeard. Afterwards, this mission uses Black Beard's ship for the combat and from my testing this ship is static and doesn't scale with the Jackdaw, so everyone has the same experience here. Skipped.

    The siege of Charles-Towne

This mission is naval stealth and has no combat, so I skipped this too.

    The fireship

Easy again. The enemies are just gunboats and schooners. If you keep moving after the fireship explodes you are never in any real danger.

    Do not go gently

The first real difficulty spike, and a pretty steep one at that. Fighting a Man-o-war with our boat made from basically wet paper is no joke, especially without a plan. The man-o-war starts with a mortar. We immediately go full stop in order to both lead and avoid the mortar and to let the pirate brig draw aggro. The other pirate brig will die immediately.

The plan is to let the brig distract and to stay out of range ourselves. Here is the thing about (most) man-o-wars in the game: they have terrible range because all their broadsides are heavy shot, so they must rely on mortars for ranged damage. This is something we can exploit since our normal broadside outrange theirs. Once the pirate brig dies the man-o-war should be decently damaged and then you just have to chip away at it from range. Make no mistake though, it is still a legitimate threat. You can't be at the wrong place twice because two volleys of either the mortars or broadside will likely mean death.

Forts (In particular Cabo de Cruz)

Before you do Vainglorious Bastards, I highly, highly, highly recommend you take out the fort Cabo de Cruz. Let's talk forts in general. Forts are surprisingly doable. The level 1 forts fall very easily. Some level two forts have a gimmick like reinforcements or the stupid waterspout that circles the island. However, now that we know that mortars aren't so scary anymore, most forts become more of an endurance fight. There are two forts that I wasn't able to beat: Chinchorro, because it calls in a ton of high-level reinforcements, and Charlotte, because the rogue waves completely halt your speed, making you an easy target for a devastating mortar. It may be possible to beat this fort by sticking close to it, but it will be extremely difficult. The final level 3 fort doesn't have a gimmick, just a lot of health. It took me around 15 minutes to beat it and most of it was spent sailing around the island so it couldn't hit me.

I haven't uploaded all the fort videos yet but honestly they aren't that interesting, and you can probably beat the game without destroying them. It just means exploration in general is more annoying because most of the sea will be a restricted area.

    Vainglorious Bastards

Probably the hardest mission in this run. Two brigs and a frigate are very strong. The brigs outspeed and outrange you, so use your barrels when they get close. Ships will always try to avoid barrels, and this is very helpful to get them of our backs. Still, you do little damage. Then there is the frigate, which also outranges you and can shoot multiple broadsides that do a lot of damage. Their combined offense is just too much and therefore we have a big problem.

This is where our fort comes into play, and we absolutely NEED it. Once the mission starts, go fast and go wide towards your fort, using barrels to keep the brigs off your back. Your goal is to bait them into the range of your fort, because your fort will do all the work for you. Once you reach the fort, head towards the cliff where there are a few rocks that you can use as cover. This also leads the sips in front of the fort so it can damage them. I got really lucky at one point where I should have been hit with two broadsides at the same time, but I think my chain shot stunned them into not firing. By the time you reach your fort again all ships should be dead or nearly dead and you only need to shoot the frigate once to allow for boarding.

    Trust is earned

Not a naval mission but in order to access it we need to destroy some ships. The gunboats fall quickly and the frigate is made easier by plenty of cover and restricted space. Just be careful not to hit land. A nice breather after the hell that came before it.

    Black Bart's Gambit

Again, stealth and at the end you command a static and quite overpowered man-o-war. Skipped.

    Murder and Mayhem

Like Hornigold himself, his ship is kind of a pushover. It is stronger than a normal schooner but if you focus your efforts on it and hit it hard and fast you shouldn't have problems. Ironically, his own barrels do a lot of damage to him, so make sure to shoot those. Don't worry if you hit the Spanish ship that helps you out, just keep focusing on Hornigold.

    Royal Misfortune

A hard mission again. During the chase, you can't see where the mortars will land, but I think it may be the same every time so you could learn to get through this without too much damage through trial and error. Once it starts dropping barrels you are relatively safe for a short while.

Then the four-way free for all. The Royal Fortune is the strongest non legendary ship in the game, and you have to respect it. Luckily, if you don't attack the Spanish or English ships they won't attack you. Let them do damage and use them for cover. Basically, you're bait again because Black Bart prioritizes you above the other ships. Stormy weather makes movement tricky though. Take shots when you can, just make sure not to hit your "allies".

    Ever a Splinter

Like Trust is Earned not a naval mission, but the mission start marker is guarded by two men-o-war. You can actually swim to this marker and start the mission this way, or stealth swim to the ships and incapacitate them this way. Personally, I found this to be anticlimactic. After fighting an already damaged man of war and a man of war together with other ships, a one on one seemed like a fitting end for this run.

Aggro one ship then lead it away from the other. Like always, their range is bad, and we exploit this. Because this is still in the open world, there is still some randomness involved like weather and patrolling ships, but this is honestly not that hard, especially after everything that came before. It just takes. Way. Too. Long. This is purely a stamina fight if you get lucky and manage to keep it a 1v1. After beating one ship, I didn't bother to fight the other one too because I already proved I can beat one and I don't hate myself that much to have another 10+ minute battle where two mistakes mean death.

    Closing thoughts

I didn't attempt the legendary ships because it is obvious that you stand no chance without upgrades in a fair fight. The ships are just too fast and hit too hard. They also all have a gimmick that makes it even harder. You can however take them out by boarding them on your own, there are videos of this on youtube and I think this is a fairly well known trick, so I didn't see the need of repeating it myself.

Should you attempt this run? Maybe. It is kind of fun to overcome these insurmountable odds in a Dark Souls kind of way, but your options are too limited and especially the later fights, when you've become good at movement, mainly become endurance fights. It also kind of ruins your casual enjoyment of the game because casual naval combat becomes incredibly easy and every upgrade starts to feel overpowered.

I also attempted Freedom Cry but the base Experto Crede is already quite capable with mortars, good health and good offence, so I lost interest. I may also attempt Rogue in the future but it won't be soon. Rogue forces you to get mortars and I don't really know how I feel about that.

So that was it. Black Flag beaten with the minimal number of upgrades. It is surprisingly easy until you get to Do not Go Gently. After this it gets more frustrating and frankly less fun. If you made it all this way than I thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed it or that at least made you learn something new about AC4 or its naval combat.

Question about the modern day (spoilers for the comics, AC: Odyssey, and the Fate of Atlantis DLC)

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 12:48 PM PDT

Hello! At the end of the AC:Uprising comics, Charlotte de la Cruz was killed after she killed Juno when Otso Berg blew up the lab with Charlotte still inside. AC: Odyssey and the Fate of Atlantis DLC only touch on these events, saying that Galina, Kiyoshi, and Arend managed to "escape" Berg and the Templars, but offering no further explanation.

I have some memories of Layla saying that she'll "make Berg pay for what he did to Charlotte," or something like like that, either in AC:Odyssey or the Fate of Atlantis DLC, but I couldn't find anything when I went back to check the transcripts from Layla's emails, files, and the 21st century conversations pages on the wiki. Can anyone else remember Layla saying something like that or am I completely misremembering?

    Just finished AC Valhalla [SPOILERS]

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 02:54 PM PDT

Hello, I've been an Assassin's creed fan since 2009, and I just finished AC Valhalla and honestly. I can say it was a very enjoyable game, I had fun playing it. However, I felt like the "Assassin's Creed" aspect was something on the back burner like a side quest almost.

[SPOILER] The fact that Basim ended up being the big bad was so annoying. It felt like they were teasing us with the transition from the Hidden Ones to Assassins. Nope, instead we got "hidden reincarnation revenge plot". It didn't make sense, and the buildup to that wasn't strong and it wasn't like an "oh shit" moment, it felt thrown in. I was really enjoying the Sigurd and Eivor storyline, like that was done so well and I wanted to know what would happen to them next, but the Basim ending just ruined it.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it, I'm probably going to get the DLC's and keep going. I know they're trying create this open world rpg with assassins mash, but hmm I don't know.

There's much more I could say but TLDR: Good game, good viking story, meh assassin's story. (I will say one last thing, I hate the fantasy glowing armor)

Regarding weapon alignments (Bear, Wolf, Raven)

    Posted: 28 Mar 2021 02:44 AM PDT

Does the skill tree's stat-bonus in each tree, only give that bonus to the aligned weapon types?
Doesn't really make much sense to me, that most 2handed axe stat-bonuses are in bear aligned tree, when so many 2handed axes are raven aligned??

Does the bonus of these skill tree stats expand to every weapon type of every alignment?
