I want a legit assassins game

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 12:30 PM PDT

I've been a fan of the series since the very first game. I'm not special but I feel like I should say that because what I'm about to say may not be popular. I want a legit assassins creed game again. One where you're actually an assassin and not an outlier of the actual brotherhood. I think the one that played the most to that tune was Origins because it shows you where the inception of the assassins began. I loved odyssey and I love Valhalla, but I feel like we need a game where you're actually an assassin or aspiring to be one again. Dual Hidden blades, brutal combat and retribution.

Something interesting I noticed about the AC Valhalla trailer (spoilers)

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 03:12 PM PDT

Apologies if this has already been brought up. I rewatched the trailer today and something caught my attention when listening to (what I presume to be Alfred) Alfred's monologue:

"They are heartless, godless barbarians. They murder and kill blindly. They scar the lands of England, lands they will never defend, never love. The time has come to speak to them in a language they will understand."

The trailer attempts to make us think that he is referring to the vikings, as this speech is played over scenes of the vikings, intended to contrast with Alfred's words, however given what we now know about Alfred's true intentions and his loyalty to God and the Christian faith, is it possible that he was actually referring the Order of Ancients? It seems to make sense to me if you break down what he says:

    "they are heartless, godless barbarians"

Alfred, as grand Maegester of the order, knows well just how cruel the order can be, with actions that would be deemed barbaric by many. He also knows that they worship the old gods, aka the Isu, rather than the Christian God, therefore he would rightly assert them to be "godless" given that they do not follow his own religion.

    "They murder and kill blindly"

Well this one's fairly straight forward. The order aims to obtain and maintain power by any means necessary, therefore they would blindly kill any who oppose or threaten them, even their families and friends at times who may have known nothing about the order.

"They scar the lands of England, lands they will never love, never defend."

Alfred's knows the order will deliberately allow pieces of England to remain at war or fall to Dane rule if they can install their puppets as leaders or have something to gain from the chaos. To them, England is merely territory to control, they hold no actual love for the land.

"The time has come to speak to them in a language they will understand."

Alfred knows how loyal the members of the order will be to their cause, and that they will never be dissuaded through words or preachings. He recognises that his only way to bring about their downfall is through plotting and deceiving, the same methods they use to obtain power. He must eliminate them discreetly, thus engaging the order in a war on a playing field that they are very familiar with.

So yeah, that's my little theory, Alfred's true plans were hinted to us from before the game was even released. Its also quite possible that this is just a load of BS and I'm reading too much into something, but it seemed interesting none the less

TL;DR Alfred's speech in the trailer video for the game is actually referring to the Order of Ancients, not Vikings, hinting at his betrayal of the order and true goal to defeat them.

The [SPOILERS] Trilogy future games theory

    Posted: 30 Mar 2021 01:47 AM PDT

So... we've had the Desmond Trilogy (+2), we've had the Nameless Initiate Trilogy, and now the Layla Trilogy. Since it seems like we'll be controlling Basim in modern times next time, I have an idea where we could go and it all connects to the Legendary Assassins' statues from the Auditore Villa.

In Assassin's Creed II we were visiting memorial tombs for legendary Assassins and proto-Assassins. Collect all six seals and you unlock the best armour in the game - the Armour of Altair. In subsequent AC-related media we actually see the people from the statues:

    • Darius - the Persian assassin of King Xerxes, and the first recorded user of the Hidden Blade, appears in Odyssey DLC, "Legacy of the First Blade".
    • Qulan Gal - the killer of Genghis Khan appears in the novel "The Secret Crusade" and his famous assassination is seen in the comic "Reflections"
    • Amunet - is the name Aya took when she fully embraced her status as the Hidden One in Origins.

And with that, we have half of the statues seen in action. Three to go. And the areas where those three were active very often appear in leaks and rumours as next AC settings:

    • Iltani - Babylonian poisoner of Alexander the Great. We've had Alexander's tomb in Origins and Iltani herself was mention in Chronicles: India, so exploring her past would certainly be a good hook, especially since she encountered a Staff of Eden.
    • Wei Yu - who took the life of China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. China's been surfacing up as the next AC setting recently, and I feel like this period would work, especially since it could involve Wei Yu's rivalry with another would-be assassin, Jing Ke.
    • Leonius - who ended the rule of Caligula. We've been to Rome in Origins and there were rumours of Rome being the next setting. Perhaps it's still planned.

What do you guys think? Where will AC go next and will Basim be the controllable modern character?

AC: Rogue's Main Theme is really similar to the beginning of Yi Jian Mei song (Xue Hua Piano Piao)

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 07:13 PM PDT

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link the videos, so I'll take them down if I must:

    Yi Jian Mei: https://youtu.be/VKq2flvS7dw

    AC Rogue Theme: https://youtu.be/lmlCudR3JPk

I've never really posted about it, but I decided to after watching the tiandi pov meme. The beginning of To Jian Mei is really, really similar to the melody of AC Rogue's Main Theme, even though they're not in any way shape or form, similar. If someone could however give a reason that'd be sick, but I thought it was cool

Edit: Wanted to add that To Jian Mei was recorded in 1983

AC:Odyssey - How much of the story is left?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 03:41 AM PDT

I have been powering through Odyssey in fits and starts, I just have a question regarding the main storyline. Ignoring side quests, I just wonder how much more of the story is to go. Where I am is just after you find your mother as the leader of an island, she asks you to break a blockade and then comes with you on your ship. That's where I saved and stopped. Is there a lot more of the just story to go? I have all the DLC too.

Do all Assassins have Eagle Vision? Spoilers for Origins

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 08:13 AM PDT

Throughout the whole series, every main Assassin has had Eagle Vision. The older ones (Bayek, Kassandra, and Eivor) have the literal vision of an eagle. But when using Aya, she doesn't have a bird and therefore doesn't have Eagle Vision. Do all Assassins have it or do only some have it?

My Thoughts on Valhalla after 2 Play Throughs... *SPOILERS**

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 03:42 PM PDT

So for what it is I enjoyed the game and still do as well as I am looking forward to playing the upcoming DLC. The storyline is good not great, the scenery however is drop dead gorgeous rivaling RDR2 really my disappointment comes in title only and not the Valhalla subtitle either the fact that it attempting to claim that it is in anyway a chapter in the AC timeline. I know that there have been titles before that have sorely missed the mark and in a way there is a sense of impossibility when it comes to making everyone happy, I get that but for me with Valhalla the dev's basically slapped us in the face with taughting the crowd blend and steath skills being a key part of the game when they were not that at all they are a mere option that the main story arc does its best to steer you away from using they are they simply so they can say they are there and take away a major criticism from Odyssey and Origins.

For me the missed the mark with having Eivor, the main character who is an assasain but really isn't. I get why at first he would be reluctant to want to join these two strange men that showed up with his brother, that I understand even after arriving in England being hesitant to join a hidden society that you know nothing about other than what two strangers have told you. When you come across long forgotten assassin depots though could have easily held a script that gave you some sort of insight into the brotherhood and then the more you learn the more the character wants to be an assassin rather than fight against it the entirety of the story line.

Black Flag is a game where someone falls into the Assassins society with no prior knowledge but embraces it and becomes an assassin. Eivor falls into it hates it and doesn't ever seem to come around to it.

I don't know I just finished my second play through hoping that I'd leave it feeling better than I did at first and when I didn't not only feel better but kind of left feeling worse I felt like I wanted to get my feelings out. Seems as if they took a really good open world Viking game and ruined it by trying to package it and market it as the next in line in the AC universe and they sorely missed the mark. It just comes across as someone wanted to make a Viking game but they were afraid that it wouldn't sell so they figured they'd throw the AC name to it and fill it with a few ok Fantasy world DLC's and a shit load of micro transactions so they can make as much money as possible because Fortnite proved to the world of Game developers that players care more about what their characters look like and will pay to have the coolest armor and sword that is no different than what's already in the game than they care about the actual storyline and history of what was a ground breaking franchise in the world of video games.

Rant over! Sorry about it but just needed to get it out.v

In Assassin's Creed 2, what is the name of the dye on the figurine of the Black Edition?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 09:06 PM PDT

I know it's quite old but I really like the dye. It isn't the Wetland Ebony dye. I've read that you can only get it from either the game of the year edition, digital edition or the mobile app, all these you can no longer get. Is it in the remastered edition?

What are your thoughts on the AC III Remaster?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 12:35 PM PDT

Assassin's Creed III is one of my favorites in the series, but I recognize the appeal of the remaster. There's so many quality-of-life improvements, and on Switch and PC you even get stuff like gyro aim. But at the same time I've heard a lot of people say there's problems with the graphics, and from what I've seen I'd have to agree.

Why am I not in love with AC2 like everyone else?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 02:42 AM PDT

I recently bought Assassin's Creed 2 remastered and I was hoping I would enjoy it as much as everyone else does. But I don't. Something is missing and I don't know what. I'm currently on sequence 4, after completing Novella's Secret. I've been kind of bored ever since I met Mario. Again, I can't tell why. Could you guys tell me when things get more interesting or how to make the game more engaging for myself? Thanks!

Opinions about this strange idea about Templar's Creed?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 01:32 PM PDT

Hi, I'm a "new" player of ac and I've only played ac 1, the whole Ezio Collection, ac 3 and now I'm playing ac Black flag. I was wondering how cool would it be to make a kind of new Assassin's Creed but focused only on templars as it would be a game saga parellel to our beloved Assassin's Creed (a Templar's Creed or something like that). I know that in some games like Assassin's Creed 3 there are some part with templars and so on but, come on, I think it would be cool to have both Assassin's Creed and Templar's Creed at the same time xD Hope you understand what I mean, I don't want it to have characters that we have already seen like I don't know, the Borgias... (even if i have to admit that a Templar's Creed with Haytham would be amazing)

Which Assassin's Creed game do you think deserves its own "Snyder Cut" version?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 01:25 PM PDT

It's no secret that every Assassin's Creed since ACII has had a semi-rushed development schedule, resulting in plot points or entire sequences being axed for the sake of releasing the game in time.

Obviously the Snyder Cut has been trending in recent weeks courtesy of Zack Snyder's Justice League coming out, but that aside I've always wondered, from the fan community, what your thoughts are on an AC game possibly getting its own Snyder Cut release in which the original auteur vision was restored and no scene was left on the cutting table.

For me, I've always wondered how AC Brotherhood would've turned out had Patrice Desilets not been fired during production. I still really like the game, for the record, but this is about hypotheticals.

We recently finished up forging a custom spear heavily influenced by the Broken Spear of Leonidas!

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 03:08 AM PDT

We recently finished up forging a custom spear heavily influenced by the Broken Spear of Leonidas!

    https://preview.redd.it/goye63kuvxp61.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=33ea4d4cce2fa60481cd3663839e13c951ed2053

We usually make khukuris and other large knives, but have had a bit of success with spears recently. We ended up getting approached to make a custom spear based off the broken spear of Leonidas from assassins creed and after a bit of head scratching figured out a design and jumped in.
While the end result might not be the most ornate replica out this is probably the most practical as an actual weapon. Make no mistake this is a serious blade, with great cutting performance, form and balance based off the african short spear known as an iklwa but with a sturdy build that's designed to take a real beating.

    https://preview.redd.it/16ee25h0wxp61.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=58f15bfb2b1c1b9ea13cb637d6137e1f1d928e9a

The final weapon has a 13" blade and 22" handle. The thickness of the blade near the wings is 7mm, tapering down to 3mm at the tip. The 5160 spring steel makes for a very rugged larger blade with good edge performance and stability. We're based in Nepal so all of our blades are traditionally forged with sledgehammers over hot coals.

    https://preview.redd.it/0jwq3k13wxp61.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a6e041b4ed7325287fce635aa9c9b764cebe98f

Unlike many spears and the iklwa on which the form is based- this blade has a steel tang that goes the whole way through this rosewood shaft. While this does add weight it makes for a much more bombproof blade. The brass spacer and detailing on the pommel helps to add a touch of visual intrigue while keeping the counterbalance and adding a touch of offensive capability.

    https://preview.redd.it/27thqxa5wxp61.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a58db709888366647f8551d4205789f81f4be82

Here you can see the sculpting on the blade. A central scooped fuller with bevelled edges on all sides. This kind of shaping is common in fantasy or videogame blades but is something that is very hard to replicate with in mass manufacture or with a lot of western blademsithing techniques. Fullers and engraving like this is actually common on nepalese blades like khukuris and koras which means it's not too much of a challenge for our blacksmiths.

    https://preview.redd.it/ut7w8m07wxp61.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99094be9ff1712a3978c036459bf8c68917d2b78

The steel bolster is integrally forged, with a brass collar to reinforce the junction between the blade and shaft. This makes for a tougher blade and helps to integrate some of the styling seen on upgraded versions of the blade. Our workshop is located next to our community sports field so we often have visits from local kids in between games. If they're lucky they can model our blades for us too!

    https://preview.redd.it/va0puwa8wxp61.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cba0fcfe9ca8693dad5a71ec262a682a7d1be78d

It was a challenging build but we got there in the end. What do you guys think?
This is actually the second assassins creed build we've done- here's a link to a far more ornate khukuri.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/assassinscreed/comments/e2ve1j/custom_assassins_creed_khukuri/

Thanks for taking the time to check out our work :)
    Take care,

Spoilers for Valhalla! Do not read if you do not want to be spoiled! The question is in the post

Why is Basim the reincarnation of Loki?

In Valhalla, we learn that Eivor is the reincarnation of Odin, Sigurd is the reincarnation of Tyr, and Basim is the reincarnation of Loki. Eivor and Sigurd are Vikings who have worshipped the Norse gods for all their lives. Basim is a Hidden One who is originally from Iraq. Why is Basim the reincarnation of Loki if he didn't have anything to do with the Norse gods or the Vikings until he met Sigurd?

Worst Possible Time Periods For An Assassin's Creed Game

[Spoilers] Assassin’s Creed Primal Potential Settings

    Posted: 29 Mar 2021 09:00 AM PDT

Since Far Cry Primal released in 2016, people have been joking about a similar setting for Assassin's Creed. While I wouldn't go back 15000 years, there are settings from our ancient past that can create similar tribal vibes and remain faithful to Assassin's Creed. Unlike previous settings where I focused heavily on individuals, we will not be discussing that as heavily here, as most individuals are fairly unknown. Instead, the focus is on the setting and what it could bring to the table.

    Hallstatt and La Tene Culture

During the European Iron Age, a distinct culture became prominent in central Europe around 1200bce, known as the Hallstatt. These were, essentially, early celts, which evolved into the modern idea of Celts during the La Tene culture which expanded from the Hallstatt around 500bce. While megalithic sites such as Stonehenge may have been used by Celts, and could definitely be explored as part of their religion, these structures existed long before the Hallstatt culture, though were sometimes incorporated into their architecture such as with the Newgrange Ring Fort in Ireland. While early Celts were largely rural, by 500bce, we start to see larger towns and cities start to emerge like Oppidum and houses that were more than small huts. Regardless of Roman and Gaul propaganda emerging in the following centuries, the Celts were not just savage barbarians or rushed into battle nude. There are multiple examples of Bronze and Iron armor, and we can see many influences from the Greeks and Romans in their armor, while their metalworking and stone artworks always retained that unique Celtic flair. It would also allow for a deeper exploration of Druids and Celtic religion than what Valhalla or Wrath of the Druids will. A game like this, exploring gods like the Morrigan or The Tuatha, and early religious practices while showing their expansion in Central Europe could also act as a bridge to Scythians and Iranians to the east, and how the Cult of Mithras infected Rome and the Order of the Ancients.

    Pre-Columbian Americas

While the Aztec and Incas were reaching their Zenith just prior to and during the Spanish Invasions in the 16th century, the other famous civilization, the Maya, had collapsed several hundred years prior. The Maya, unlike the Aztecs and Incas who had built sprawling empires, conquering other kingdoms, were instead loosely connected city-states that were at constant war with one another. A game in this period could easily deal with the complex politics of the multiple states at war, intervention by the central-Mexican city of Teotihuacan, Mayan religion, and political assassinations across the region. A truly immersive game with sites like Chichen Itza, Tulum, or Tikal at their height would be great to see, and would give a chance to see what Ah Tabai meant when he said the creed had already been in the "New World".

    Pacific Island Cultures

For about 2000 years, people have been inhabiting the thousands of islands in the Pacific Ocean, using Drua to connect islands, creating a variety of tribes, kingdoms, and empires. Nan Madol in Micronesia, for example, has evidence showing a multiple island empire by the 11th century, with complex stone structures and cities being built up out of the water with the volcanic rock being carved and transported overland for miles before being put on boats and transported to Nan Madol and neighboring islands. While the city is a bit small, there's a ton of evidence of all of the Micronesian islands of larger cultures that haven't been fully excavated due to local religious concerns. To the east, Polynesians had created the Tu'i Tonga Empire by the 10th century, expanding into the 12th century taking many of the islands of the pacific. The 13th ad 14th centuries were wrought with civil war among the islands, and multiple assassinations and attempts against the Tonga (emperor) led to the creation of a sister dynasty, the Tuʻi Haʻatakalaua to help lead the Tu'i Tonga. The capital of Mu'a on the island of Tonga also contained large stone carved structures and large carved stone platforms that many houses were placed on, though the architecture of the houses varied significantly across every island. Amidst the civil war in Tu'i Tonga, a Tahitian priest named Pa'ao arrived in Hawaii, allegedly bringing a "New Order" to the islands, along with new rituals including human sacrifice by deposing the king of Hawai'i, Kapawa, who fled to Maui where the two families went to war for centuries. Following these events, by 1320 there appears to have been a mass-migration of Polynesians to New Zealand, making up the Maori people, as they don't appear to have settled before a volcanic eruption in 1314. I'd definitely be able to see a game centered around Civil War being caused by the allies of Pu'ua in Tu'i Tonga, and centering on founding a safe tribe in New Zealand, and fighting the order in Tu'i Tonga and Hawai'i, and maybe a DLC in Nan Madol. It'd be really interesting to see how the Assassin and Templar orders would react to being in such a different area of the world. We could even see multiple factions sprouting up due to how spread out the world is, with the Order of Ancients, Templars, Hidden Ones, and Assassins all holding mildly different viewpoints in one way or another.
