Update on Diamond rune slots for purchased gear

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 11:38 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

We want to take a moment to provide you with some information about a recent community discussion revolving around the replacement of Diamond Rune Slots.

We understand that some of you were surprised that this was changed with Title Update 1.1.1. This wasn't our intention and rest assured, we're constantly fine-tuning our patch note creation process to provide the most relevant list of game improvements or changes to you.

Here's why we replaced diamond rune slots: Our development team has recently discovered that a few gear set items (Helmets, Bracers, Boots, Cloak) had diamond rune slots by mistake and started replacing these with regular rune slots with Title Update 1.1.1. (Einherjar Set).

We will do another sweep with an upcoming Title Update and are currently looking at replacing diamond rune slots from the following gear sets items (Helmets, Bracers, Boots, Cloak):

    • Niflheim gear set
    • Gothic gear set
    • Hel's Damnation gear set

Know that any runes that were slotted into diamond slots of affected gear set pieces will be returned to your inventory when our upcoming Title Update is released in the near future.

We hope this provides you with some more information and clarity on this topic and want to thank everyone for your vigilance on reporting issues to us.

Please consult our Known Issues List to stay updated on the statuses of common issues that our development team is actively investigating.

Assassin's Creed III brought a ton of innovation to the franchise

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 02:27 PM PST

Say what you will about the game which is considered somewhat of a black sheep in the franchise among some critics and fans but III had a lot to offer since it introduced a ton of new mechanics and elements that would be used in future Assassin's Creed games. For starters, it allowed us to play with ships and sail across the Northeastern United States but you could even explore the frontier which has since been replicated in the RPG-oriented installments of the franchise. It also had a brand new setting that felt rather unique and different from the others and on top of that a charismatic, likable villain that would go on to inspire Black Flag and Rogue, which are amazing AC games in their own right. It's also brought a unique perspective on the American Revolution with shades of grey for both the Americans and the British not to mention a Native American protagonist something we really don't see in many other works set around this conflict. Regardless of its quality, AC III for better or for worse helped put a whole new spin on the franchise.

Future games should add and keep good additions not cut them out

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 05:30 PM PST

I'm giving Liberation another shot and it feels better than when I initially played it a year ago. The disguises and things like that spice things up. Future games should take ideas like that and integrate them and make them interesting. If I'm an Assassin there should be a myriad of interesting ways to take down a target. The past 3 games it's been sneak into a stronghold and kill the target or you'll be forced into open combat through a story cutscene. Things like rope darts, the ability to fight with the hidden blade, throwing knives, choosing which way to kill a target like in syndicate etc, were stripped for what reason? They added fresh options, when I play the Hitman games I have fun trying to be creative, I expect the same level of creativity to go into games about Assassins moving forward.

I'm Seriously Impressed with The Fate of Atlantis DLC quality

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 06:03 AM PST

I'm playing through Odyssey 100% right now and i got my Platinum on the base game at around 100 hours, and i would be lying if i told you i didn't get burned out a little bit as the game sometimes can be very repetitive, so i took a break and recently started doing the DLC. Now, i already played Origins and it's DLCs and i remember that The Curse of Pharaoh was very good so i was expecting Odyssey's second DLC to be similar but man am i impressed. I just finished Episode 1 and i can't believe that after being burned out of a game i could feel so refreshed with additional content like that, everything on it is awesome, Elysium was beautiful, the new stuff is so cool, the new enemies have very different attacks from anything in the game, the legendary armor is the coolest looking in the game until now imo, and maybe the best thing are the new abilites variations which are all strong and fun to use. And after just being dropped on Episode 2 with the most challenging boss fight in the game for me (i didn't die or anything but definitely a step-up), and realizing there's another new map for Episode 2 i think this might be one of the best DLCs i've played in any game together with Souls games and Witcher 3.

tl;dr Fate of Atlantis is awesome 10/10

The Animus Anomalies were great, but I really want to be doing Assassin (or even Templar) stuff in the modern-day

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 06:27 PM PST

I've enjoyed the modern-day story the whole way through the series, and I very much enjoyed the Animus Anomalies. I hope they stick around, but I want to be able to do stuff as an Assassin in the modern-day. Yes, Assassins read emails and hack into computers, but during the Desmond days we did those alongside more physical Assassin things during the modern-day. AC3, in particular, was filled with these segments.

I really would love for them to come back.

    [Spoilers] Anne Bonny in AC4.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 05:54 PM PST

I'm playing AC4 for the first time, and I don't get the point of Anne Bonny. She was a little background character in a few cutscenes in Nassau, then a cutscene with her and Mary Read, and now she's suddenly a main character and I'm supposed to care about her. How? She just popped up out of nowhere but it feels like the writers thought she had been a beloved main character all along.

The state Valhalla is in, 2 months after launch is unacceptable.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 09:40 AM PST

This is BF4/BFV level of buggy. It wouldn't be so bad if it were only the missing lip movement (I guess every AAA game now has to have one kind of bug like this) but the fact that the game now crashes every 10 minutes is a fucking disgrace.

edit: After this post I tried once more and the game crashed yet again within minutes. /u/Zayl suggested something that might explain this: https://www.reddit.com/r/assassinscreed/comments/l2sq3m/the_state_valhalla_is_in_2_months_after_launch_is/gk7uq3p/

Did Assassin's Creed really push it's Stealth Gameplay Ever?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 11:30 AM PST

It's a common thing among the AC fanbase to grudge about the lack of stealth-based gameplay in the recent more RPG driven entries (myself included). Which is quite obvious, cause Assassin's Creed was an action stealth-adventure series to begin with ... that's how it became well known after all(and maybe because of Ezio too). Plus, stealth was not just a simple gameplay alternative in these titles ... it has deep roots within the narrative and the continuing lore of the series. It is even been noted by some that the reworked stealth in Valhalla is but a minor appeasement of the older fanbase ... while in essence the DNA of the series has been mutated beyond recognition. I guess it makes sense then to ask ... how much of a big stealth title was the series ever? I mean, Assassin's Creed was and is definitely one of my most beloved series of all time ... and of many others too. Yet, when I consider of something like "The Best Stealth Games of all Time", AC lands up pretty low. I mean, as much as social stealth was such a novelty of a concept in AC 2(AC 1 had it also, but I think the sequel made it into the more well-defined form we recognize today), what makes the first entry in the Ezio trilogy memorable for me is the almost masterful recreation of Renaissance Italy, the fluid parkour, Ezio's persona and Jesper Kyd's music. I mean, it still feels awkward that a "stealth" series had to release 6-7 mainline entries before they could realize that it would be nice to introduce a manual crouch button ... the so-called Stealth Mode in Unity. And it's not just in respect to non-Ubisoft titles that AC stealth seems lacking; the Splinter Cell series is considered widely as one of the most remarkable stealth series ever, with entries like Chaos Theory incorporating a complex net of dynamic systems to provide for a truly immersive stealth experience. It's not that I think the stealth experience in Assassin's Creed was always unenjoyable; however, it just doesn't feel that complex or deep. Yes, in the older AC games levels were dedicated more to a stealthy approach of careful planning and silent infiltration ... but that doesn't make the experience any "definitive" by any standard. So, what do you all think? Was stealth ever a strong suite of Assassin's Creed? Or was it more strong in the narrative context? And if so, can Ubisoft not only bring stealth to the forefront again, but also make it a more definitive experience?

Hit a really cool combo in odyssey... parry, dodge, then perfect bull rush

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 10:39 PM PST

I like Valhalla, it's just too long.

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 10:11 AM PST

I'm sure this has been mentioned on this sub before. I've been a long time fan of the series since the first Assassin's Creed came out on the 360. But now since I've grown into an adult, with a job, playing video games is now something I can do in my limited amount of free time I get.

This game has started to drag on. I'm 80 hours in. And I don't even know how much longer the game is. I'm still in the 160 power level regions despite being 234. I've started skipping side activities because I just want to get to the end. This game is lacking in some sort of drive that pulls you to rhe next area. And what I think are "mainline" quests that contribute to the overarching story, are few and far in-between. It's not a good feeling when a game becomes or starts to feel like a chore.

Valhalla has made some QOL changes over Odyssey which I like. I like the game doesn't throw a million pieces of gear your way or that there isn't an overwhelming amount of activities in the game that pull you from the main story. It's not that Valhalla feels empty, it just feels like it's missing the excitement or energy.

I'm sure some other people here feel the same way. But I just had to rant. I'm an adult, not a streamer, I don't spend 10 hours a day playing this game. If Ubisoft wants to continue down this sort of RPG style, they really need to make the game more compelling and less repetitive.

WTF is wrong with Connor's shoulder in Assassin's Creed 3?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 12:33 PM PST

I started playing AC3 again after 7 years and I just noticed that Connor walks with his one shoulder like he has a stiff back or has a bit of an overgrown back bone. He looks slouched but erect at the same time. Anyone else noticed that?

Can we Reset a quest in Valhalla?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 03:44 PM PST

Is there a way to reset or restart a quest in Valhalla? I believe Odyssey had some sort of quest reset.

I'm trying to do the "Of Blood and Gods" quest in Snotinghamscire, where I have to "follow the seer". Problem is, I entered her house with my arrows lit, and accidentally burn her to death. Twice. I've fully quit the game and let myself die and respawn and did other quests, but did not think to just reload back a checkpoint until it was too late. After restarting the game it loss with her dead on the floor, two sheep next to her. I know the next step is to go to a mountain to meditate, but I can't get it to trigger the change in objective to let me do that. Anyone have a recommendation?

How far into the franchise so you need to go to stop combat being predictable/easy

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 11:48 PM PST

I played original assassin's creed and assassin's creed 2, many years ago. My memory - I think of both - was that combat was very rapidly 'solved'. There was basically a three button sequence with a certain rhythm that you could use to defeat all the guards who essentially queued up to fight you.

How far into the franchise so I need to go to get past that? Loved the feel otherwise.

[SPOILERS] Assassin's Creed Valhalla Story and Ending Analysis Part 5

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 09:03 AM PST

[Rant] Why is every treasure behind a barred door, a locked door, and/or is miles underground in Valhalla?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2021 11:51 PM PST

I have no idea if this is against the rules of the subreddit so feel free to tell me if it is and I'll delete this post but I need to just scream into the void.

This is probably the most tedious and annoying AC game to find any sort of treasure or collectible in.
They are always locked behind a door or the door is barred shut (Which piercing arrow doesn't pierce for some stupid reason.) or they are miles underground and the way underground has multiple barred doors and locked doors along the way with hidden paths.

This game would be at least 100 hours shorter for Trophy/Achievement Hunters if they didn't add all that bullshit. It is so artificially elongated and it is so incredibly frustrating that I have to look up a freaking tutorial every time I wanna find a new armor piece or even sometimes just a chest with leather and iron materials. (Looking at you chest inside the barred hut next to the Orlog player in Coicestre, Essexe.)

Sorry, I really just needed to let that out cause doing all that is seriously robbing me of the fun that I had Platinuming AC Origins and Odyssey. (Even though I didn't get the Plat trophy due to Odyssey's map being bugged at 99.9% uncovered. Thanks Ubi.)

[PS5] [Valhalla] Is Fast Traveling to [Spoiler] Supposed to Take Longer?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 09:17 PM PST

    Hello,

I wanted to ask if fast traveling to Ravensthorpe on the PS5 is supposed to take longer than to other fast travel points. I noticed the increased load time after receiving a delayed Opal prompt when I fast traveled in. I am about ~50 hours into the game, and I've only just now noticed the increased loading time.

    e.g.

    • Fast Traveling to Sync Points / Docks : ~6 - 7 seconds
    • Fast Traveling to Ravensthorpe : ~19 - 20 seconds

Load times have probably always been the way they are, and I'm only just now paying attention because of the aforementioned Opal prompt, but I wanted to double check.

I ask because I've been experiencing some glitches and bugs as of late with my AC:V saves - just making sure the increased load times are the norm and nothing to do with my system / corrupted saves / etc.

    Thank you!

I'd love to see the franchise return to some characters

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 06:07 AM PST

I feel like one of the reasons that Ezio was such a great character was, in addition to brilliant writing, the connection we felt from seeing this character from birth until death. I think the franchise could benefit from perhaps revisiting some of the fan favourite characters. Of course, one problem with this is that a bad sequel can screw up what the original game built. (one example would be Odyssey screwing up the lore in the DLC). I'd love to hear your thought on this.

[Valhalla] Can't see main objectives on compass

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 06:53 PM PST

So I started playing this game a few days ago and came across this bug early in the game that makes it incredibly hard to progress, so I cant see the main objective on the compass at all, but I can see it on the map I have tried to change the exploration setting, but it either does not help or it worked for a few short moments and then it disappears again.

Anybody else experienced this, and did you solve it?

How different is Origins compared to Odyssey?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 02:14 PM PST

(This question may be slightly counter-intuitive) I have Odyssey and was watching some videos of Origins, and was wondering how different the two games are in terms of gameplay? From people who have played Origins, is it a less refined version of Odyssey, or is it pretty much the same in terms of gameplay (combat etc)?

Edit: is gear and stuff (customisation) similar?

Why the changes in combat mechanics between Origins and Odyssey?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 08:25 AM PST

So I just finished Origins for the first time Wednesday morning and started Odyssey that night. I like the changes to naval combat, but I really don't understand the other changes. I always had bows with flaming arrows equipped and used the one that acts like a sniper (can't remember if that is hunter or predator) from a distance to get headshots on enemies, and as soon as I could I had enabled the function that those arrows automatically had the flesh decay toxin attached so if I killed one guy in a crowd the rest all started do lose health too. And the number of times you could do that was based on how many arrows you had on you rather than the yellow or blue bar being used. Also that the arrows were automatically flaming if that bow was equipped. Trying to use the same methods in Odyssey has not been working at all and the best I seem to be able to hope for is to sneak up behind someone at an edge that is flat, and if I don't have enough points to get a clean assassination kill, Spartan kick them over the edge. In origins I only used the sniper bow if it was going to give me a one shot kill, but even when I activate poison arrows and get a head shot it isn't doing the trick.

For reference in the main quests I just went to that cult meeting

    Just finished the story and...[Spoilers]

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 09:09 AM PST

...found the end of the story TOTALLY underwhelming.

First, why aren't the wrap up of the order storyline and Sigurd storyline intertwined? I was very confused for a minute as to why we were heading back to Norway when the map wasn't completed.

...but ok, I thought, maybe they couldn't wrap these together. So I went through to finish the last pledge and OMG what a let down! You spend all this time getting ramped up and excited to kill Alfraed, and the final battle is short and relatively minor compared to some of the others in the story.

After 80 hours working through the main story, I expected something truly epic at the end, but this was definitely not it.

General thoughts on the game (which is my first AC game): Great story-telling (till the end), beautiful graphics, fun combat and character interactions when you get ramped up, and TONS of side content to get through. In the end though it felt scattered and unfocused, and the final payoff was a bit of a bummer, especially considering the immense amount of bugs that at times made the whole thing feel like a chore. Overall I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Unclear if I would buy another AC game after this, and I'd definitely wait for reviews.

Comparing to the other AAA open world Norse themed game on the PS4, God of War felt tighter and clearer, but with a smaller world.

    Any thoughts?

Do the health skills in Unity give you more health or just make you take less damage?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 07:14 AM PST

There is a guy on youtube, MrEdxwx and i have noticed that he always has less health than me in unity no matter what he is wearing, even if i wear the excact same gear as him i have more lealth, does this have to do with the health skills? His armor stuff is upgraded aswell.
