An obligatory post about my thoughts after finishing Origins (excluding DLC which I am starting)

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:08 PM PDT

    Wow.

I've always been intrigue by Assassin's Creed, but it wasn't until this summer where I purchased every single main game in the series and decided to play through each and every one. Now, besides Unity and Syndicate (I skipped them because the stories and gameplay were bland and I was burnt out after beating 6-7 of the games in a row, I am gonna go back tho), I have beat every single game and I must say Origins was a fantastic entry. I felt the gameplay got boring at times and the world never really felt very "alive" to me with the same npcs running around saying the same line over and over again. The story though, the narrative, Bayek, it was all fantastic.

The last few missions and ending were so satisfying. I legit got chills when bayek gave the speech around the table signaling the beginning of the brotherhood. Him dropping the skull on the beach and the symbol appearing, even septimius referring to Julius as "The Father of Understanding", and then the cutscene showing the new bureaus. It was all a fantastic tie-in and even better fan service as someone who has fell in love with the lore, characters and world of this game and I am 99% satisfied. My only gripe is that the break up of Aya and Bayek felt so incredibly forced, I didn't feel it was necessary at all. Other than that, it was a fantastic game and I feel Bayek is easily top 3 main characters behind Connor and Ezio being number one (of course).

Edit: I forgot to add that the reveal of Aya being/becoming Amunet was so damn cool. Just wanted to add that.

Edit 2: ok I am starting the Hidden Ones as we speak and Bayek's outfit is AMAZING.

Edit 3: and the best thing I forgot. Aya saying "Requiescat in Pace" so cool

So I asked a historian about what form the Order of the Ancients could take in Valhalla, it was a super interesting conversation and I thought I'd share it here. Hopefully you find it as interesting as I did.

Loving me some Odyssey during my 2.5 playthrough

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 07:22 PM PDT

I first played Odyssey and the Legacy of the Hidden Blade DLC when it came out and loved it, but something felt...like it was missing. I vowed to do my next full playthrough when the game had it's final update and was in the best state to return to.

    Well...

Not only is the world more beautiful than I remember it, but I'm allowing myself to clear out each outpost, bandit camp, and do any side mission I can find. I'm taking my time in each area, and what at first appeared to be copy-pasted areas, now have very unique and individual flairs to them when you pay attention.

I remember the forts being very similar to each other, but this time I've said "whoa" aloud when I come across the varied Nation Chest forts. The characters seem a bit more busy and less like cardboard cutouts, and the world feels like it's living and breathing a bit more now.

Honestly it feels so nice to fall in love with the game again, after so many months of feeling it was kind of empty, as I'll admit, I went through a period where I joined the bandwagon to hate on it. When I started treating it as it's own thing, and own journey, I loved it.

Also for those who had trouble with the lack of assassin feel, I'd recommend dressing your character as an Assassin with the transmorg, it sets the tone a bit more in line with the rest of the series.

I’m kind of over the feudal Japan idea

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 12:02 PM PDT

I remember I used to be foaming at the mouth for an AC game set in feudal Japan. Every person I knew was hoping and praying for a game to be set in feudal Japan.

Honestly though. Games like Sekiro and Ghosts of Tsushima have scratched that itch. Not that those games are particularly similar to AC but I feel like they are close enough to the Odyssey formula (particularly Ghosts of Tsushima) that I'm satisfied with that period of time. Sekiro really only scratched that itch aesthetically, while Ghosts covered the open world gameplay aspect.

I wasn't really into Ancient Greek history before odyssey and now I'm a huge Greek history buff. I've always been obsessed with norse history so I'm excited for Valhalla.

I'm just not convinced I'd ever really want to play a feudal Japan AC game anymore.

I'd rather a game set in a more modern Japan. Like post WWII. I'd honestly take any Asian country over feudal Japan for the next game. China, India, Maylaysia, Korea etc.

I'm probably alone in this but I'd like to know everyone's thoughts!

I want to see more of the 19th-20th century brotherhood

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 11:17 PM PDT

I definitely liked syndicate but it was essentially a 3 person brotherhood for 99% of the game, enjoyable but not as interesting as it could be. I'm actually fascinated at how a 2000 year old brotherbood started in near ancient Egypt would act in the 20th century, I get we have Desmond but there's barely a brotherhood, again it's just different assassins around doing their thing.

The world war1 sequence in syndicate was great and I actually find myself reading a lot about the brotherhood during the 1900s, Its interesting stuff that could make a great game and just plain appealing.

Is Kassandra the canonical main character?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 08:09 PM PDT

I just started odyssey the other day and I've noticed almost everyone that talks about the game mentions Kassandra instead of Alexios, is it just preference or is she the character the creators intended us to pick?

Assassin's Creed Persia and a prequel (or sequel) to Darius' story

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 11:58 AM PDT

After Odyssey and the tales of Xerxes and Darius, I was hoping the next installment would take place in Persia and be Darius' story and how the first Hidden Blade wearing Assassin came about. I'm in no way disappointed since Vikings are one of my favorite historical subjects and I can't wait to dive in their world. But I'd also love to see a Persia made by Ubi's capable hands. I'm Persian myself, and it would be my greatest honor to own and play that game. Also I believe it would be a decent setting for an AC game, at the time of The Achaemenid Empire there were very interesting and marvelous architecture, culture and people. There also could be very interesting characters since those days were full of important individuals, concerning war, science, philosophy and poem. So I'd like to know what the community thinks about this idea, I'd be glad to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance.

In AC Origins, do you get more XP for completing missions if you play with enemy auto-level on, as opposed to off?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 03:28 PM PDT

At this point I'm looking to gain more experience and level up faster, and I'm wondering if having enemy auto-level on will help.

Are bird companions really necessary in AC games?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 06:17 PM PDT

I feel that they become boring pretty quickly. I can see the need in games like odessey where you don't have eagle vision but as eagle vision is returning in Valhalla I don't think there is a need for bird companions. Post your thoughts

Idea for an India based game

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 11:24 AM PDT

I think it would be a brilliant idea to make an Assassin's Creed game set in India during the 12th or 13th century. At this time the Delhi sultanate occupied the north of India and there were small states throughout the south. The mongols were also invading at this time, the ottoman empire had been established, and the Byzantines were also still around. So this could make for an interesting story and map. Indian martial arts and weapons could also be involved. This wouldn't be too similar to AC Chronicles because that is set 600 years later.

    The gorgon fight is impossible.

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 08:31 PM PDT

I am 100% stuck on the gorgon fight. Have been for hours. I have three different load outs. One for assassin damage, one for warrior damage, and one for hunter damage. I spam her with fire arrows when the mercenaries are not out. When they arrive, I switch to the warrior class and deal with them. Then back to hunter. Rinse, repeat. I just cannot do it. I've never gotten her past half health. Any other time in this game I can hold my own no problem. But for her, the difficulty was ramped up so insanely much that it's made it not fun in the least. I think I may be done with this one.

How much French in AC Unity?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 07:23 AM PDT

I've played and enjoyed several AC games, now going back and picking up a few on sale before the wonderful timesucker that will be Valhalla. In Unity, since it's set in Paris, are all the street signs and so forth in French? Sure hope so, and I plan to play the French language version, although English is my first language. Tyvm in advance! I mean merci beaucoup, mes amis joueurs.

What's the best assassins creed game based on gameplay ONLY?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 12:48 AM PDT

like the title suggests I'm looking for a assassins creed game that is based on how much down time there is, on getting from point A to point B. How the gameplay (combat) is, how the missions are played (level design), is it slow to get into synchronization points or is it super fast--or not even necessary.

p.s. I'm not here to argue whether assassins creed is good or bad, I'm just looking to cherry pick the most gameplay in mind assassins creed game.

p.p.s. I would also like if possible, to keep fast travel in mind, syndicates fast travel points imo were too far apart, and I would find myself just trudging to missions 500 meters away over and over again, I would like it, if fast travel based on mission locations isn't spread out 50 miles away from the closest fast travel point

—————————————————————————- Edit: okay so I read the replies and I tallied up the data.

    AC:1 - 1 vote

    AC:Syndicate - 1 vote

    AC:Rogue - 2 votes

    AC:2 - 3 votes

    AC:3 - 3 votes

    AC:Brother Hood - 6 votes

    AC:Odyssey - 8 votes

    AC:Origins - 9 votes

    AC:Black Flag - 10 votes

    AC:Unity - 13 votes

thank you for your own opinions and reviews on which assassins creed has the best gameplay and least down time, guess I'll go buy a copy of unity, which honestly surprised me since so many youtuber shit on this game when it released

date which I tallied votes was 9/24/2020
