Posted: 25 Sep 2020 03:06 AM PDT Recently I rewatched ATA gameplay videos, and the starting point for me was Stonehenge, with its puzzle. A certain tree for Norse mythology What AC Odyssey (you can love it or hate it, I'm not going to divulge into that) showed me is that they can bring characters and certain elements from very old parts of AC lore (like Pythagoras, Staff of Hermes etc.). Again, it's not the question of how they did it - it's the fact they actually brought it. Anyway, going back to the topic. It's no secret that Rogue has enough references to the Vikings. For one, it's being seriously developed about Leuf Erikson as first European who stepped on America in around 1000 AD (Valhalla's events happened a century before). According to some historical references, even though his expedition managed to settle there for some time, they weren't able to occupy these lands due to natives resistance. Most likely, these were the remnants of settlements you can find in Rogue, including some outfits and weapons. But if you think these are all Nordic elements in Rogue, you're dead wrong. During the storyline, Assassins were looking for Precursor sites, and due to Shay's mistake the earthquake in Lisbon happened, which we witnessed ourselves. What's interesting is his words to Haytham later in the game. A tree. Yggdrasil is an eternal green ash tree in Norse mythology. It stands in the middle of the world, with branches that stretch out over all of the nine realms. Each realm hangs on its own branch, but if the tree should shake or fall, so will all the realms. You can read more of it here. The Yggdrasil background and its explanation is not so far from the magnetic field of Earth. Moreover, their interpretation looks somewhat similar. Continuing on magnetic field, one of the articles of "Science" magazine written 6 years ago was about an impact of magnetic field pulses on the earthquakes.
Based on this, here are my thoughts. In Rogue, we saw how Shay took out the octahedron from a site, causing an explosion. Probably, these particular sites are the foundation of the magnetic field: destabilise one - it emerges a pulse which causes the earthquake. In Valhalla we'll learn that Yggrasil is its direct parallel - as it kept the nine worlds together in Nordic mythology, magnetic field is what keeps the planet together. However, I'd love to listen your version of this :) To finish this, here is an interesting detail. Remember the puzzle with Stonehenge at the top of this post? That looks like Yggdrasil? Now look at Shay's medallion. And no, it wasn't being given with Finnigan's outfit - he had that medallion in the beginning of the game. When I asked Darby about this, he responded:
So if he's not joking around, we're on the right area to dig. UPD: I noticed that few hours ago, but wasn't at home by that time and couldn't properly update the post. Several people already noticed this in the comments, so kudos to them for highlighting this too! In the AC Rogue Lisbon mission, inside the Carmo Convent you can see an Yggdrasil on a window. It means we're definitely onto something huge. [link] [comments]

Just finished playing Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Posted: 25 Sep 2020 03:03 PM PDT I just finished the story for Black Flag and damn I did not expect to like this game as much as I did. I knew I would have fun playing it but the story and characters got me invested much more. I really wish Edward had more games kind of like Ezio because he's definitely one of my favorite Assassins now [link] [comments]

Odyssey being more fun with new game+ Posted: 25 Sep 2020 07:52 PM PDT For those that have replayed it, did you enjoy playing the game more after completing the main story again? I finished an AC marathon last month and i was not enjoying the main odyssey story so much. I skipped every cutscene i could and just did everything as fast as possible. But now that im just redoing the atlantis and cultists quests, it's a lot of fun. Im also starting to experiment more with different abilities and sets bc for the longest time i was just abusing the ares abilities. [link] [comments]
Assassination Missions on AC 2 don't make sense Posted: 25 Sep 2020 08:43 PM PDT Is it just me, but since when is ezio a hitman like killer for hire? I'm not saying the game is bad or the missions aren't fun, but the context of it just doesn't make sense to me. Why in the world would ezio be a personal hitman for Lorenzo? Just for the coin? I don't even think the targets are all templars. It just feels off knowing the character that he would do this type of mission. Not that he is a good samaritan by any means, but being a killer for hire still seems off from the whole creed main goal. [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Sep 2020 01:06 PM PDT As it stands I really like syndicate and thought the story was good, but it did not live up to its potential with how much it sidelined evie. The main arc for syndicate is jacob learning to live to the creed more and evie learning to bend it more, that's not masterful but in concept it definitely works well, it really had the potential to be a fun story with enjoyable arcs and moments. But jacobs arc boils WAY to long and evies arc is rushed through, Jacob has like 3 opportunities for him to learn his lesson but doesn't, this is why so many people hated him, if cut his sequences down to 2/3 of them it would have bean much more tolerable. Meanwhile evies arc is rushed as hell, she goes from "happy" to "sad" to "learned lesson" in 3 sequences stretched between at least 6 jacob missions. It's weird and doesn't work as well as it could have bean. Honestly Fuck ubisoft for what they did with this games story, again I like it overall but it pales in comparison to what it could have bean because ubisoft thinks we're all gonna have a panic attack if we play as a girl for more than 3 nanoseconds at a time. Assassin's Creed Cover Playthrough Update #9 Posted: 25 Sep 2020 06:39 PM PDT My quest to play every AC game using only the cover gear has brought me to Origins. I finished Syndicate using: Jacob: Outdoorsman outfit, adept cane sword, 1856 revolver, leather belt Evie: Simply Evie, adept cane sword, 1856 revolver, red cloak I 100% completed the game, The Last Maharaja, and Jack the Ripper. The game actually improved. I enjoyed it a lot more than I remember. It was still a bit repetitive and I still hate most of the villains. The game is still bottom tier in my opinion but I liked it more than I remember. I hate both DLCs. Except for the fight against Jack the Ripper. That was well done and it terrifies me. Now it's time for Origins. I do not like New Game Plus so I will be starting completely from scratch meaning some cover gear will be blocked off. This is Bayek's loadout: Bayek's outfit, Alexander's Shield, Khopesh Sword, Amenhotep's bow The sword isn't on the cover so I used Ubisoft's Bayek photo to figure that one out. I will be substituting Alexander's Shield for the Medjay Shield because Alexander's shield is level 40 and I will be using the regular boring hunting bow until Amenhotep's bow. For the second bow slot and second weapon slot, I will be using whatever I want. This one is certainly going to be the most interesting one out of all the games. See you guys when it's time for Odyssey. [link] [comments]
Is the lack of marketing a red flag or a consequence of the resignations? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 10:07 AM PDT Honestly just want to hear your guys' thoughts on this. I'm paranoid about how little we are hearing about this next installment. I'm really excited, but I cant help to feel a little worried based on the lack of promotion of this game. Black Flag Additional Content not available in game? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 09:16 PM PDT So, I started Black Flag a few weeks ago. I know I'm SUPER late, but by god this game is amazing. Anyways, I found several DLC packs on the PlayStation store and downloaded them since they were free. However, I'm not able to see them in-game anywhere. Not in the captains cabin, not in stores, etc. I looked around a bunch and saw several gamers had the same issue, but I never saw a fix? Am I missing something? I was under the impression the stuff would just be available once I logged on. If not, that's fine - I'm not afraid of extra gameplay! I would just like to know what I'm supposed to do... TIA [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:27 PM PDT Three Kingdoms would be cool but perhaps a little too cliche because of the Dynasty Warriors game's. Perhaps Warring States or the Opium wars and Taiping Rebellion. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 09:01 PM PDT The title says it all. I've read that a lot of people don't like many of the changes made after Syndicate. The new combat, the RPG elements and, more specifically for this post, the new take on Eagle Vision. What's your thoughts on the new Eagle Vision? Do you love it or hate it, or do you like it but think it could be better? Below are my personal thoughts on it that I believe cover most arguments regarding the topic: I like having Senu and Ikaros as my bird companions in the new AC games. It adds an extra element of strategy to the stealth gameplay. Gone are the days of pressing a single button to have tactical information magically sent to your brain through the mysterious 'eagle vision'. Now, you really need to case a joint before you attack. Scan the area, pick out the guards, find all the loot. You need to take the time to craft your master stealth plan to be full proof, and that makes success in these areas SO much more satisfying. And if you miss a guard and get caught up? The only person you can blame is yourself for being too impatient or not careful enough. It adds a new layer of difficulty and depth to the game. Also, being able to fly around and take in the beautiful locations we've been blessed with thus far from the sky? I love that. And having that partner with you at all times helps you feel less alone is the open world. Especially when Senu latches to Bayek's arm for a scratchy-scratch, or when Ikaros kills a goat while you're hunting and Kassandra says "You're such a good hunter, Ikaros" or something. And some people might argue that it breaks continuity with the other games, but *how it all fits together is explained in the major edit at the end. Who's to say that there aren't birds that we don't see picking out the baddies for us, and *that many Assassins simply receive that information instead of looking through the bird's eyes? And that their ability to see symbols and stuff with eagle vision isn't, say, an offshoot of the sixth-sense (or whatever it is called, like, hold X to scan everything within 10 metres or whatever) ability? *Note that E. Kenway claims that Eagle Vision is a form of Daredevil-like extra-sensory perception, but he may not speak for all Assassins. His Eagle Vision could be a heightened variation of the sixth sense ability. *Keep in mind that there is no exact science behind Eagle Vision. The changes in how it works per game can simply be attributed to how the Eagle Vision mutation affects each individual person. For all we know, *Eagle Vision as we used to know it was just how it was translated to us through the older versions of the Animus. Perhaps the system couldn't register what was really happening until later developments in the technology, and as such we just saw the information being fed to us with little or no explanation, other than "Oh that? It's Eagle Vision. *This is how it works for me". So if the much more literal 'Eagle Vision' became a permanent aspect of Assassin's Creed from here on out, I will gladly roll with it. It's more fun, more tactical and it makes more sense *gameplay-wise than having magical Detective Mode at the press of a button. Thanks for reading my TED talk. Edit: It is explained on the AC Fandom Wiki that Eagle Vision manifests itself differently in different individuals. This doesn't necessarily debunk my theory from before about how old Eagle Vision could've functioned for SOME Assassins (Edward Kenway claimed it was a culmination of heightened sensory perception, but he may not speak for most Assassins), but it does explain that the ability to look through the eyes of a bird was a rarer variation of Eagle Vision, at least among Assassins that we know of thus far. I have placed '*' where I have made changes to the post. This is the link to the post that inspired this post: [link] [comments]
The Roman Republic's Wars in the Mediterranean - Common Setting Discussions Posted: 25 Sep 2020 09:00 AM PDT A common trait Assassin's Creed groups have is the constant theorizing about future settings, because historical tourism is one of the best parts of the series. This series of posts will act as a counter to my Mildly Obscure setting discussions, but rather than looking at a single point, I will be taking a broad setting that is popular and looking at several potential settings to explore within it. Today's setting is discussing the wars of the Roman Republic. Honorable mentions are the Liberator's Civil War and Last War of the Roman Republic, however, both are touched on by Origins and its comics. While interesting, they'd also mostly take place in Greece and Egypt, which I'd want to avoid to an extent since we just saw those settings. 2nd Punic War The Second Punic War was one of the bloodiest and longest lasting wars in the ancient era, which ultimately is what allowed Rome to become the powerhouse that it was and dominate the Mediterranean. Hannibal Barca was raised on the battlefield by his father, and upon his father's assassination, Hannibal was placed as commander in chief by his army. He took no time to secure his domains and expanded his reach in Iberia for 2 years. In 219bce, Hannibal laid siege to the Roman-Iberian city of Saguntum. The Roman senate responded by declaring war on Carthage. Hannibal, with the support of his brothers, rallied tribes of Gauls and Celts to aid him and marched with war elephants across Africa, through Spain, and into Italy where Hannibal quickly won the battles of Trebia and Cannae. All told, Hannibal marched through Italy for a total of 15 years. He failed to ever gain a distinct advantage over Rome to win a decisive victory but used his time in Italy to rally support throughout the Mediterranian including getting Phillip V of Macedonia to go to war with Rome in 214bce. Despite Hannibal staying in Italy for 15 years, I'd much rather a game focused in Carthage at this time, facing opposition from Numidia to the East and potentially seeing Templar influence from within. Eventually, Scipio Africanus would push Hannibal out of Italy, take part of Spain and invade Carthage. This would lead to the battle of Zama in 203bce and shortly after, Carthaginian lands would be salted. Hannibal lost his power and would eventually go to Syria to aid the Seleucids' fight against Rome. There's also next to no lore about Hannibal, the war, or Carthage, making it easy to fill in some gaps about Templars and Assassins in Rome and Carthage. Maybe Hannibal was in search of the Rome Vaults? Macedonian Wars Following the events of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Philip of Macedonia would go on to extend his Empire and take the majority of Greece. His son Alexander the Great would extend the empire into Persia and conquer the majority of Persia and part of Egypt before being assassinated by Iltani in Babylon. I discussed the potential for Iran and the Fertile Crescent as this post. However, I didn't discuss what came next, which was the splitting of the Macedonian Empire across Alexander's generals. The Ptolemies took control of Egypt and controlled it until AC Origins where we see the Romans begin to seize control. The Seleucids controlled the majority of Anatolia (AKA Asia Minor, which is the eastern half of what is now Turkey). Philip V took the opportunity of the 2nd Punic War to begin an offensive against the Romans in the Adriatic Sea. This however ended in a 14-year long stalemate. With Carthage being defeated, however, he took the time to work with the Seleucids to expand into Ptolemy's territory but inadvertently created the States of Pergamon and Rhodes in Anatolia who disagreed with the imperialism. Rome took the time in 200bce to then declare war against Macedonia stating it was to "protect the Greeks" and decisively defeated Phillip V's phalanx at the Battle of Cynoscephalae in 197bce thus changing Hellas to these borders with the agreement that Philip would not interfere outside the borders of Macedonia. Enter Hannibal. Now Exiled from Carthage, he joined the Seleucids, who were seeking to reform Alexander's Empire. The Seleucids entered Macedonia and began to take Greece, forcing Philip to ask for Rome's return. Scipio Africanus, coming back from trying to work out peace in Egypt would join his brother to help the Macedonians defeat the Seleucids at Thermopylae in 192bce forcing a retreat back to Anatolia. There the Seleucids attacked Pergamon and Rhodes for several years before the battle of Magnesia in 190. Eventually, the Seleucids were defeated in 188 forcing Hannibal to flee north to Bithynien while Rome ultimately destroyed the Seleucid Empire in Anatolia and replaced it with the Pergamon Kingdom which remained an ally of Rome. Ultimately I believe this would be the best location for a game during the Macedonian wars because we can still part of Macedonia like Pella and maybe Mt Olympus and Thermopylae to show part of Greece not in Odyssey with then a focus on Anatolia so we have the big cities like Byzantion, Ephesus, Halicarnassus, and Rhodes:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/GettyImages-514887778-5bae4689c9e77c0051167c9e.jpg), 3 of which has ancient wonders of the world at this time. It also is a fantastic sequel for the Punic War because it's in part able to make out to be Hannibal vs Scipio round 2. Both of whom died 5 years later in 183bce. It would also allow us to mainly focus on part of Hellas not explored in odyssey while telling a new Story, and could even expand on the lore of Kassandra between origins and odyssey. This setting could also examine the lost city of Troy and what happened to it after the Trojan war. Ultimately the Macedonians would continue to rebel against Rome until their defeat in 148bce which firmly cemented the majority of Greece to then fall under Roman rule, and like Bayek said in Origins, "Greece is already lost". Cyprus could also make a good DLC. Third Servile War Italia was formally unified and all residents were granted Roman Citizenship in the Italian Social War in 91-89bce. During the war, Lucius Caesar, Uncle of Julius Caesar served with Sulla, and following Lucius' Death, Sulla put down the Rebellion and marched on Rome, becoming a dictator by force. Sulla would eventually lead in the First Mithridatic war leading to a rise in piracy in the region. During this time Gaius Antonius Hybrida began making a name for himself in Macedonia as a legate for Sulla while Cicero was an opponent of Sulla who he even challenged in courts. While Cicero has not been stated to be, he very likely would have been an ally of an early hidden one's style movement in Rome. Following Sulla's death, the second Mithridatic war broke out and was once again put down by the Romans. These wars were largely fought in Greece and Anatolia. Wars were one of the biggest ways the Roman obtained slaves, through captured combatants, and many slaves were often sent to Rome to learn to be a gladiator as a special school for slaves. In 73bce, 200 slaves escaped one of these schools in Capua using just kitchen utensils that 70 of them had provisioned and fought their way to freedom, being led by the Gauls Crixus and Oenomaus, and the Thracian Sparticus. The escaped slaves fled to Mt Vesuvius (near Naples, Pompei, and Herculaneum) where they were battled by Gaius Claudius Gaber and won against the 3000 legionaries. This kicked off the Third Servile War, as the Roman Senate now were worried about Slaves marching on Rome. Spartacus and the slaves eventually grew to an army of 120,000 in size. Continued failures of Gaber in 72ce near Modena caused Pompey who had just returned from the Third Mithridatic War and Marcus Licinius Crassus, the richest man in Rome, to be sent to finally quell the rebellion. Misguided reinforcements were sent from the Mithridatic War back to Brundisium, causing Crassus to accelerate his plans and march against Spartacus and his armies. Spartacus attempted to sue for peace but was unable to. Spartacus at that time had 50,000 soldiers left and they met with Crassus and Pompey at the Battle of the Silarius River. 1000 Legionaries were killed in the battle, and 36,000 slaves. Afterward, another 6000 slaves were crucified across the Appian Way by Pompey and Crassus had another 5000 that were captured crucified later on. According to Discovery Tour in origins, Spartacus was among the 6000 originally crucified. The famous scene of all the slaves declaring "I am Spartacus" is a fictitious moment due to the writer's experience with McCarthyism in America in the 1950s, but I can definitely see Ubisoft using it there. Should Ubisoft choose to do this setting, the Catilinarian conspiracy could make a solid DLC. a Few years after the slave rebellion was put down, the Roman Senator Catiline plotted to kill and/ or overthrow the senators Lucius Manlius Torquatus, Lucius Aurelius Cotta, Cicero, and Hybrida between 65 and 63bce with the help of veterans from the wars under Sulla. Cicero found out about the latter plot in 63bce and exposed him to the senate, causing Catiline to be expelled and eventually leading to the battle of Pistoia in 62bce. Third Mithridatic War In 74bce after the first two Mithridatic Wars, Mithridates VI was asked to leave his Kingdom to be taken by Rome upon his death. Mithridates refused by invading Bithynia. Marcus Aurelias Cotta took charge on the western front, pushing the Armenians out of western Anatolia. In 71Ce after sending troops to Brundisium, Lucullus led the Siege of Themiscyra (yes it's a real place, not just a wonder woman island). In 70ce Lucullus besieged Sinope, while Cotta returned to Rome. Lucullus continued to lay siege and push east through Pontus and Armenia Minor until 68bce when during a siege, Mithridates led his army around back into Pontus. In 67bce, after several skirmishes, this led to the battle of Zela, leaving over 7000 Romans dead and Mithridates in firm control of Pontus. In 66bce, Pompey came to Armenia and subsequently swiftly conquered the Caucasus region in a single year. We don't know every city in that region during the Roman conquest, but Tbilisi has some Roman Ruins, Artaxata was sacked, and the city of Baku in Azerbaijan was visited by Romans based on some archeological finds. The current Fire Temple may also be sitting over an Isu site and was likely another religious temple prior to the current temple's existence. The really nice thing about this set is that it can combine a fairly unique region that is often glossed over with well known Roman characters. This could also feature as a good sequel to a game following the Third Servile War so that we can mostly focus on the war in Armenia, Albania, and Pontus. [link] [comments]
From a lore perspective, why are there Animus data fragments in AC4 and Rogue? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 07:02 PM PDT (Could also be a question or theory post) Since the fragments in Revelations unlocked the Lost Archive chapters, I was under the impression that they were like, messy glitchy bits of code in the Animus itself, and that by collecting them Desmond was cleaning up the code and helping his brain heal. If that's true, then why are there so many of the things just laying around for the memory researchers to collect in Abstergo Entertainment's Animi? Isn't it someone else's job to fix that stuff? If it isn't true, then what actually are the fragments? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Sep 2020 06:29 PM PDT I saw a post made by someone challenging the idea that "shield maidens" factually existed. The OP claims that their existence hasn't been proven or disproven but that he or she is fine playing with female characters either way but is annoyed at the idea of certain people claiming that maidens existing was a 100% fact. And in some of the comments I could see some claiming things along the lines of "it's a game, who cares if it's historically accurate" to paraphrase. And frankly maybe I am misunderstanding but it feels like the ones saying this are either dishonest or haven't thought this through. Obviously the concept of AC is far fatched in itself but there has always been a way to make it work wih the historical events and fill in the blanks of obscure moments. So it's clear that you're going to have to take SOME liberties otherwise you don't have a game. But if you're going to claim that because it's a game we don't have to be accurate, how about we make a game set in the american revolution but pretend that slavery didn't exist, that african americans were treated 100% equally and that their ancestors weren't slaves but "just" immigrants from africa ? Or that George washington rode dragons into battle infront of everyone and ordered air strikes against british forces and seized airports (hope you get that reference) ? I mean how far would you have to go before it sounds ridiculous EVEN IN THE CONTEXT OF AC ? (that's the key here). There should be a line. Outside of the crux of the assassin templar conflict, you can even sometimes change location of death for a historical character or even the day if it works and isn't distracting as well as other things, but you can't pretend that the developers just do whatever the hell they want. If the game wasn't about explaining historical events through the lenses of the assassin templar conflict and filling some blanks it would be another thing I can understand wanting to push back against sexism but some people literally turn off their brains in order to do it (Sorry if that sounds harsh but I have to say it) and end up saying really nonensical stuff. Personally, I don't mind a female character but if you're going to do it then make her the main character, not an Evie or an Aya. Anyway, end of my rant. Edit : If your counter argument is "Shieldmaidens are not comparable to dragons or air strikes in 1776" it means we're on the same page and that there is a certain level of ridiculousness that can't be tolerated. Whether or not shield maidens existed or should be included or not isn't exactly my main point. the main thing is that you shouldn't justifiy their inclusion that claiming that "accuracy doesn't matter because it's a game" because clearly there are limits, even for AC as seen with dragons on open battleflieds and planes in the revolution. If you think that the maidens should be a thing in the game because you would enjoy it, then sure, it seems to be a grey area, something that AC is known for exploring. But justifying it specifically by dismissing the general importance of accuracy doesn't make sense [link] [comments]

I like the mythical beasts in Odyssey, I hope they continue this in Vallhala and future games. Posted: 25 Sep 2020 06:58 AM PDT I liked the fact of mystery. Does anybody else what them in Vallhala? Like they can do Norse mythology creatures, I'm not expecting the same kinda thing they did with Atlantis because that would be kinda repetitive, but even if they done something similar. Like you kill all the 4(maybe more or less?) Of the bosses and it opens a area where you have to fight 1 last boss for better gear. Like how we got the minotaur axe from him ect. Or would that spoil the game in your opinion? Am I the only one or would others like them to continue? [link] [comments]

Syndicate - Where can I find recordings of street performances? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 01:02 PM PDT The performances for AC4, Rogue, and Unity were all very well documented so I was hoping I'd be able to find ones I ran into while playing Syndicate. I was particularly interested in the string performance of 'Here's a Health to the Company'. I can't find to seem more than a few relating to the murder investigations for instance. It doesn't seem most of them were included in the OSTs. [link] [comments] |
