Assassin's Creed 3, Rogue and the Colonial Brotherhood are pretty much Star Wars.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 10:28 AM PST

The story of the Colonial Brotherhood that is present in Assassin's Creed 3 and Rogue is totally influenced by Star Wars.

I know, I know, but hear me out on this one because it makes perfect sense, to me at least.

-Assassin's Creed 3: The original trilogy.

Connor, much like Luke, is born and raised in a small village in the middle of nowhere and is the son of the Templar Grand Master Haytham, just like Luke is the son of Anakin/Darth Vader. Both he and Luke know almost nothing about their fathers. Later on the Imperial Army/ the British troops give them reason to join the fight, when the stormtroopers kill Luke's uncle and aunt, and when the British burn Connor's village and kill his mother. They are both told to seek an exiled old mentor who they believe can train them: Achilles and Yoda. (Plus they both have the cane.) Even though their personalities are totally different, Achilles trains Connor just like Yoda trains Luke, and as a result both become Assassins/Jedi ready to take on their enemies and eventually face their own fathers. Only difference is that Connor's rebels are not his close friends unlike Luke's, and that Connor doesn't mature at all. Like, at all.

Haytham, much like Vader, launched a shadow attack on the Assassins/Jedi some 20 years prior to the story, wiping them all out and leaving only a few in exile and retired. They are both ruthless, cold and unflinching and are initially unaware of the fact they have children. When they find out they have children, they are surprised and try to track them down and hunt them in order to either recruit or kill them. They are both 100% into their cause and give off pretty much the same aura. Only difference is that Haytham remains unrepentant to the end as he doesn't stop believing in his cause. Oh and Luke didn't kill Vader.

    - Assassin's Creed Rogue: The prequels.

Shay is like a second Anakin Skywalker. Though Haytham is Vader, Shay portrays Anakin's transition to the dark side. Shay is a reckless and arrogant Assassin, and is mentored and repeatedly criticized by Achilles, the Assassin council, and his more experienced close friend Liam (as was the case with Anakin and the Jedi council and his more experienced close friend Obi-Wan Kenobi). For personal reasons Shay defies the Assassins, faces off against them, ends up unconscious at the bottom of a cliff, is rescued by the opposition, joins the opposition and wears Sith robes. Sounds familiar? Yes it does. He then executes order 66 and launches the shadow attack against the Republic/Assassins alongside with Haytham and the gang. Only difference is Shay is single and Vader didn't cripple Yoda.

I probably forgot to include some other things too but yeah, I think this here is legit if you think about it. Share your thoughts lol

Best naval combat: black flag or odyssey?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 06:04 AM PST

I'm a fan of naval combat, not enough games have it.

I like the setting of AC:IV regarding to ships but I like greek mythology too, but I'm not a fan of greek ships.

So gameplay wise, just taking into account naval combar, which game is more fun? How's the customization on both games?

    Edit: gonna play BF maties

The simplest of fixes for Assassins Creed Combat. For enemies, they ditch the health bar and have a 'stamina bar'.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 09:17 AM PST

Enemies of higher levels should be able to block / parry all your attacks (instead of just taking slices of full steal to the gut and walking it off) until their stamina bar empties and your next strike becomes a critical strike (insert cool realistic kill animation).

Also then the stamina bar gets lower they can animate the guy to start to drag his feet a bit etc, getting sloppier and sloppier at fighting.

This way, they keep the realism of fighting and avoid RIDICULOUS sword sponges that take you out of the game while keeping the challenging fight mechanics.

The more i think about this the more I can't believe games don't do this across the industry. How have no game developers thought of this?? The idea of a health bar is so ridiculous when you think about it, why has this not evolved as games strive for immersion and realism.

[Spoiler] The answer is in Assassin's Creed Rogue - Lindisfarne

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 02:54 PM PST

    Hi,

With all the rumour about Assassin's Creed Vikings, where we apparently gonna play the memory of an ancestor of Otso Berg, I started to replay AC Rogue.

Imagine my surprise when I found (again) the file called "Lindisfarne" where Da Costa and Berg talk about his previous experience in the animus. A young man who attack the village of Lindisfrane with his crew, fought a giant saxon and beat him, offer the giant to join his clan...

I open this post to track the information, I'm certain that the answer for AC Vikings was in AC Rogue all along... Feel free to join my research.

I hope they tone down Odysseys ability based combat for the next entry.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 09:40 AM PST

Odyssey's combat isn't bad but I'm not a huge fan of the ability based system. Some abilities are cool like the Sparta kick and Hero Strike but once upgraded some abilities get way over the top and sometimes just plain goofy. In Origins the weapons themselves were the main source of damage while in Odyssey it's like whacking people with a pool noodle. Why hack someone 20 times when you could just hero strike to kill them in one hit.

Origins combat still had parrying, shield charge and overpower attacks to keep it interesting. And bows also felt more powerful on their own. It felt very satisfying to pop some dude in the head and watch him fall rather than have to use to devastating shot that made a ton of noise and sometimes sent them flying alerting people several meters away.

I just feel for the next entry in the series they should tone it down some. Expand on origins combat rather than expand on the ability based. In my opinion sometimes simpler is better.

Maybe a Secret in Black Flag

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 09:27 AM PST

I was attacking the fort that Governer Torenz is in for a story line mission. While doing that I was collecting the treasure chests and fragments to complete the fort easily and quickly as I could before the naval mission. While close to collecting the last fragment I heard someone yells, "Come one down, it's my Rats birthday party." Has anyone else ever come across this?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 11:27 PM PST

If you like this "whitcher 3" style of historical game, fine by me! But damn I just want some historical game where you are just a badass fighter without the need of magic.

Ragnarok is going even further with the gimmicky bs (don't read for potential spoilers)

Rhunes to enchant your weapons, beserker instead of adrenaline with abilities to summon lightning fire or ice? Fighting big snakes and shit like that again? And going even deeper in the RPG elements (more skilltrees, sets etc.)

Could you even remember how the games were? They are NOTHING like the bs we are getting these days.

[Spoilers] What is the Fate of Atlantis exactly?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 10:47 PM PST

So I just finished the Fate of Atlantis DLC and overall I enjoyed it aside from some story problems and the whole "Layla is a borderline psychopath" part of the modern day. (Also, we know that Atlantis is destroyed and sinks to the bottom of the sea but don't actually get to see it happen other than like 2 scenes of statues falling apart in a storm?)

What I don't understand is the actual lore behind Elysium, the Underworld, and Atlantis. For the first 2 episodes I kind of assumed they were simulations like the tombs from Origins' DLC, just targeted for Kassandra by Aletheia for training purposes. The realms didn't really exist, and were only modeled after Greek mythology to make it more relatable to Kassandra.

However, in the Atlantis DLC we finally see the city as it supposedly existed, and Aletheia reveals she was actually in the role of the Dikastes and everything else was based on the memories of Persephone, Hades, Poseidon, and her. This makes zero sense to me because obviously Elysium and the Underworld did not house the dead, especially since people can be killed in both realms, and we know that things could not have really happened the way they did because Kassandra played an integral part in the downfall of each realm, something that was way before her time.

I liked the individual stories very much, even if the endings for each felt very sudden and rushed, but as a whole and cohesive storyline it doesn't make sense to me. What were Elysium and the Underworld exactly? Why are all three referred to as Sister Realms? Who are Persephone and Hades really, as Isu and not gods? I feel like it got too mixed up in trying to create more First Civ lore and would have been better off if each simulation was really just a simulation, and didn't happen in reality, with maybe the story of Atlantis being half real to explain how it actually sank.

I think I have more questions about the Isu than before this DLC, so if anyone can answer what exactly the realms and situations were I would be so grateful!

    Rebel Collection review

    Rebel Collection review

I'd left this series alone for a while now, but the Switch re release of Black Flag / Rogue, plus the very real possibility of being able to play them both on the toilet, has drawn me back in! :-)

    https://www.altchar.com/reviews/assassins-creed-the-rebel-collection-review-aBe1r1d6I3NV

*PLEASE NOTE - I wrote this review. I'm not just trying to "link dump and run" - I genuinely want to spark an interesting, lively debate and participate in said conversation, especially in relation to the quality of the porting work (which was largely awesome).

What’s the proper timing to combo attacks in Assassin’s Creed II - Ezio Collection?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 10:10 PM PST

Did they change it from the original or did the jump to current gen consoles happen to change that? I just started playing it on my PS4 and I'm having a hard time making consecutive attacks (with bare hands, if it matters) come out with Ezio in my first steps in AC II, something I didn't remember with the PC version back in the day. When is the proper time to press the attack button to keep an attack going with Ezio's fists? By the way, swords and hidden blade attacks seem to connect easier, for some reason...

Also, as a bonus question, is there any benefit (or different kill animation) to holding the attack button while the hidden blade is equipped to have it remain in its drawn state as you're walking towards a group of enemies?

Multiple Time periods in one game ?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 01:20 PM PST

So this might be a bad idea but what if we had two protagonists in two different time periods. So the modern day would involve jumping between two time periods. You could have two different time periods and have two different assasins. Maybe the two time periods are connected or maybe you're just tracking a POE through time. The map for the two time periods would have to be smaller but maybe this could solve the problem some people have with oddysey's world feeling empty. What are your thoughts on this idea ?

Ubisoft store gear not showing up - AC Odyssey

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 08:19 PM PST

I redeemed a bunch of stuff from the ubisoft store (including my special edition items). All the gear popped up on the right hand side of my screen right after that initial fight with those 2 guys cyclops sent but none of it is in my inventory. Any body know what I should do or how to fix it?

    AC : Odyssey story

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 02:02 PM PST

I played this game so much a while back and got burnt out because it's so big and I'm the type of player that likes to do everything (including all the question marks). I'm going to start playing again and pick up where I left off. I remember some things but not everything. This might be a dumb question. But is there anyway to refresh my memory without spoiling anything further than I've gotten? Obviously youtube has stuff but I don't want to ruin anything for myself. Thanks for the help and sorry again if this was a dumb post lol.

What do you think of Origins campaign and gameplay?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 07:56 PM PST

I am trying to decide whether or not I want to purchase Origins. I was a huge fan of the older AC games, but the last one I truly loved was AC3 as I just got bored with the games that followed. I am looking for a fun campaign with good gameplay. Does Origins fit this bill, and is it worth a buy?

Did anyone find Balancing for Assassin Builds in Odyssey completely Broken?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 05:53 AM PST

I put 200hrs into Oydssey, completed every single Golden Quest Marker on the entire over blown and large map and all of it's DLC and 100% Origins and it's DLC too and while I enjoy Odyssey it had MANY problems like quality of writing and tone being all over the place and in some places just being laughable in a bad sort of way.

But one of the worst things in the game that stuck with me was that I played as a character specialising in the Assassin Tree and Build and the Hero Strike Ability ending up making every single boss encounter apart from Medusa basically be killable in 3 hero strikes! Like 30seconds?...

I spent 5hrs worth of quest and story build up getting hyped up and excited to finally fight the freakin Minotaur to only end up being able to kill him in about 20-30seconds after the 3rd hero strike it was done, I beat this "BOSS" so quickly Kassandra didn't even get to finish her dialogue during the battle.

This Problem ended up repeating itself with Hades, Cerberus etc etc where it basically ruined the experience.

Put 200hrs into Origins which I adored and this was never a problem in that game.

Did anyone come up with this problem as well?

Like the game seems to not been balanced for Assassin Builds very well at all...

This has to be an issue caused by the game not being sure what it wants to be which is either an action game or a deadly assassin game...but then at the same time this was never a problem for me in Origins even when being Max Level.

I see lots of people complaining about not being able to one shot kill enemies during stealth etc meanwhile I ended up killing everything under the sun super instantly even in moments where it felt completely broken?

This is obviously to me atleast a good thing when it comes to henchmen in the world but when it comes to mercenaries or bosses it makes them completely pointless?

    What are your thoughts?

Is there a website that tells you exactly everything that has happened in the storyline so far?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 01:48 PM PST

I'm replaying Black Flag and the farthest I've gotten in the series is Unity without playing the chronicles. I've completely forgotten what happened in the first game and the Ezio trilogy and the third game. I've forgotten all the secrets like the adam and eve secret video in the first game and subject 16 stuff and just, I can't remember any of that stuff.

Is there like a website that lists everything so I cam binge read it during the night?

    Thank you.

    [PS3] Assassin's Creed Rogue Men O'War Help

    Posted: 08 Jan 2020 01:25 PM PST

    Howdy!

So I finished the game a couple of days ago, and yesterday while I was completing the River map, I got stuck in the Naval Campaign as my highest ships were Frigates. I didn't focus at all on collecting ships during the Story, I just focused on getting 100% Synchro.

With this, I wanted to get better ships for Naval. I went and checked, and saw that the best ships are Men O'War, and the best are level 60 ones. This is obviously what I want, preferably a full fleet of them.

However, I am having trouble finding a single of them. How do I get them now? From what I read online, they are supposed to spawn at Anticonti, before ending the game. This is not something I can reverse, so I read that you should be able to find them still there after, but I haven't managed to.

I also read that I can replay Cold Fire and got to Anticonti instead of doing the mission, and it would spawn there. I tried it, but at least it seems that is not the case. Said to rotate the island, I did it once, but there are no ships at all present in the map on the mission.

Anyone can help me out? How do I get at least one Level 60 Men O'War? I can accept that a full fleet is likely impossible, but at least one it should be possible. There is no warning about this in game, having played all ACs up to III / Liberation, Post Game always allowed me to complete everything, so this is very annoying if not the case...

    Thank you in advance.
