Why hasn’t AC made a main series game in a non-Western setting yet?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:31 AM PST

It's just occurred to me that AC has never really done a non-Western setting, with the closest being the Altair games (1 and Rev)—even then, with the Crusades and a recently-renamed Istanbul, Western Culture still looms heavily. Origins also has a lot of unique, non-explicitly-Western culture, but there are a lot of Greco-Roman characters and influences in the game as well (Egypt has some influence, but not a significant amount, on Western culture so I hold it as a largely independent entity).

I know Japan, China and Russia are frequently-requested locations, and having just seen a post about India, that would be an interesting setting too. Do you think the reason why AC hasn't made a main-series installment with a near-total lack of Western influences yet is because the market wouldn't be there? Interested to hear thoughts on it.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm clamoring for a late-Roman Republic or Roman Empire game, but I'd also love to see more settings with non-European influences. I majored in history in college and learned a lot about parts of the world not usually covered in mainstream education or media, but would love to learn more obscure stories from those locations.

The mercenaries in odyssey are dumb af

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 04:58 PM PST

Seriously. They appear as SOON as the bounty is posted, as if they had internet in Ancient Greece. And MULTIPLE show up at once. Like, this world is HUGE. Why are they all here right now?? How hard would it have been to copy an old ass game like fallout or elder scrolls where the mercenaries show up LATER. You know, like how it would actually work. Also, the dialogue and voice acting is trash.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:42 AM PST

If the male assassins which one is the handsomest out of all of them. I would say it's between Ezio and Edward with Bayek coming in at a close third

How much you want to see Medieval England in AC 2020?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:53 PM PST

UK plays key role during Vikings invasion over other parts of Europe. Starting the prologue on raiding the English town of Lindisfarne would be amazing and I want to see entire north/eastern coast of UK in next game in medieval era!

In Defense of Desmond Miles and his Return as Main Protagonist

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:03 PM PST

Some AC fans are a fan of the modern day arcs and some are simply not. Some are fans of Desmond Miles and his story and some are definitely not. Regardless off which camp you reside in, I just want to say one thing:

No one likes the current modern day arc or are indifferent to it. Ever since Desmond died, the modern day portions went downhill. At least with Desmond, all AC games were connected. Desmond Miles as the protagonist made sense because he was special, simply because of his heritage full of skilled Assassins and because of the significant amount of Isu blood inside him. There weren't enough Modern Day sections to fully develop his character the way it was developed with beloved Assassins like Ezio, Edward, and Altaïr. And the modern day gameplay is only boring because Ubisoft didn't give enough effort to make a worthwhile modern day experience the way the rest of the AC games were. Hell, they still don't with the silent unnamed protagonists and Layla.

But regardless of where you stand, we can all agree that the modern day sections and story went downhill after Desmonds death. And at least with him, the AC community wasn't as displeased as they are now. I feel like Desmond deserves a second chance and be able to return as the series' Modern Day Protagonist.

My grievances with Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:28 PM PST

I'm a long time fan of the assassin's creed series it's always been one of my favorite games, however these past two games have not really been enjoyable. I think it all stems from two things, the RPG gameplay, and the graphics. The graphics in AC 3 looked better than these last two games. The latest games look so choppy and the cutscene animations are so static and dead. The in game graphics are too vibrant and crazy it hurts to look at. This new RPG gameplay also sucks. I understand it makes the game more challenging and whatnot but it takes all the fun out of being an assassin. What is the point in being stealthy if you can't make a clean kill because the guards are too high level?? Before AC Origins you could kill any guard because you were a fucking assassin. And it makes the "boss enemies" into damage sponges. That's all. Have a good day!

I want a false documentary about assassins creed

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 12:57 PM PST

I want the history channel, or discovery, or some channel like that to produce a 10 episode season and follow all the assassins creed games and books, showing us the historical aspect of the game, the discoveries of Isu tech, basically the stories from the whole series.

Narrated by the guy who narrated "hitchhikers guide the the galaxy" and have interviews with historians, scientists and conspiracy theorists.

Showing locations now of where the important actions took place, then overlaying them with what it looked like back then.

It wud be completely fiction but without playing the games nonstop from the very earliest in the timeline to the present, is there really a way to hear it all laid out.

Just think of it, "in today's episode we will explore Egypt through the eyes of one of the creators of the assassins guild, Bayek, on his journey from prisoner to master assassin. We will dive into the depths of the Isu lore and explore the locations discovered below the deepest parts of pyramid tombs."

Or " today we learn about ruthless privateer ,Edward Kenway, as he navigates the Caribbean, and get pulled into the guild, to discover even more Isu tech, legendary armor, and friendships between pirates."

I just think it wud be so cool, much cooler than the fake mermaid documentary.

I fear the response, but I have to ask: what do you believe is the state of the story - brilliant, or broken?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 02:47 PM PST

I've been watching a few videos on AC Odyssey before I get it on Christmas, and (against my better judgement) decided to peer into the comments. What I've found is hundreds upon hundreds of commenters at each other's throats, each declaring that what they say about the series is the definite truth:

•The new Stories expand the established lore and give us more insight into how the world works and what that might mean for the future •The new Stories are poorly written trash that ruin the sense of mystery and continue to move away from the original concept.

    • Desmond needs to return because his death caused everything to go downhill. •Desmond was super bland, bringing him back would mess everything up.

•The new RPG systems are great and allow more immersion while playing. •The RPG systems are crap and the protagonist is super boring.

•The combat is smooth and rewarding. •The combat doesn't play like it used to, so its bad.

    •Layla is trash •Layla isn't trash.

    •You Smell. •Nuh Uh. •Yuh Huh! •Nuh Uh! I'm telling!

Jokes aside there, I think part of it comes down to perspective. Some of us are playing because we want a cool ancient mystery that we won't be able to fully unravel while fighting against totally-not-Illuminati-club from the shadows as a hidden-blade-wielding badass in the backdrop of some past time period, while others are playing to enjoy learning about the history of the world, learning how the different pieces fall into place on the larger scale of the franchise and exploring expertly crafted depictions of history like never before. Both exist, and neither are more right than the other.

For me, good stories are ones that evolve over time, in their characters, their themes, and their presentation. Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed: Odyssey are a world away from each other in all of these aspects, the former is a gritty, ominous story of a man forced by a mysterious organization to relive the life of his ancestor to learn some great secret, the answer to which had long since been lost to time. In the latter, we follow a team of assassins hunting for tools of the Isu, those that came before, in an attempt to turn the tide in a losing war against the Templar order, who have nestled themselves securely in the highest levels of power the world over. Their most recent gambit is to glean hints from the life of a Greek mercenary hero found embroiled right in the middle of the Peloponnesian War, a life that will lead them to places once deemed no more than fiction. Both of these stories are great, but in different ways.

Still, I want to hear what everyone else thinks - do you think the games are doing great, or that serious mistakes are being made? Let me know below!

Ever thought of a futuristic game?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 11:03 PM PST

Think about it, the Animus is all about to use your genetic memory to 'go back in time'. What if, somehow, this genetic mechanism was used to see the future, or predict the future? I know, time traveling in games, tv shows, animes, is something that is usually not very well thought out butif done correctly, don't you think it would add a really unique twist to the story? Not saying this is something Ubisoft should do, jsut saying it would be interesting

I don't know, it was dumb or wise move from Ubisoft regarding the such a beautiful unique cultures of China, India and Russia wasted in those 2.5d games. I want that to happen in main titles too maybe after Viking game. Those are very different than Greece, Italy, America's etc.

Why Isn't Ubisoft Making An AC I remake?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 01:34 PM PST

Why isn't Ubisoft making an Assasin's Creed 1 remake? That was IMO the best Assassin's Creed Game Ever...It Setup The Tone Which ACII followed...I know It Had Many Problems with Repetitive Missions and Stuff but that's what they can improve on and can make a remake of...They Can Allow us to Play through the whole Life of Altaïr-Ibn-Lahad The Greatest Assassin to ever live who never took any damage thorughout AC I..

Is it possible to solo play the multiplayer missions in Unity?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:00 AM PST

So, a few years ago when I played Unity I remember wanting to get certain weapons or cosmetics that were only available as rewards for multiplayer missions, and I tried playing one solo but I was very low stats and got destroyed by the guards. I was wondering if I were to have high enough stats, would it be possible for me to complete the multiplayer missions solo if I play carefully?

What should i expect from Origins and Odyssey?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:11 AM PST

I recently bought a PS4. Since i've been wanting to play the AC ganes available there, i kinda binge bought Unity, Syndicate and Origins.

Even though i was dissapointed with Unity, with all the problems and all, but found it somewhat enjoyable.

I am currently playing Syndicate and enjoying it far better than i did Unity.

Origins i have no opinion as of now, but from what i've heard, it's a great game.

Now, as for Odyssey i've read all the hate about that game. Also heard some praise. So all in all, what should i expect from the game? Is it really more an Adventure/RPG game kinda like Dragons Dogma? I own all of the AC games, are the changes that "shocking"?

Origins / Odyssey Discovery Tour Comparison

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 08:42 PM PST

I'm trying to decide which game to buy, either Origins standard or Gold Edition Odyssey. Discovery Mode is what I'm really all about, the main games are a bonus.

Which game has the better tours? Do the Odyssey quizzes improve or worsen the experience? Which has more, and does more equal more quality? What game is prettier? Let's discuss.

Why doesn't the AC bundles contain all deluxe editions? Does uplay remove prices on bundles for AC's you owned already? (Uplay reddit is way less active)

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 01:10 PM PST

If I check for AC 2 it only shows the standard edition but the AC 2 ezio auditore pack contains AC 2 deluxe edition and AC brotherhood/revelations both standard editions and not deluxe.

I know some editions aren't listed in Uplay as having deluxe editions but I do see AC brotherhood has a deluxe edition yet that isn't in the Ezio pack.

And 2nd question, If you bought some AC's already, and you want to buy one of those bundles, does it remove the price for the AC games you already owned or do they force you to buy the Ac versions seperately?

(For Instance: I own AC 3 remastered and AC 4 black flag, but not AC rogue. If I buy the american history pack does it remove the prices for the games owned or do you have to buy it seperate)

Has the series left the Assassins Order?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 06:43 PM PST

It seems that in earlier games the plot lined up around furthering the Assassin's Order and taking down the Templar's. However, I feel that in recent games the plot has been around the characters personal life and being an Assassin is a side note. Does anyone else agree with this assessment?

Unity & Syndicate narrative rewards and extras? (No spoilers, please)

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:37 AM PST

I know a few of these will only unlock gear or cosmetics, and while I might go after a few, I don't want to spend too much time on something to find out it unlocks something I won't get much use out of.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

Best things that made modern day AC intriguing from the Ac1 - Ac syndicate and why Origins and Odyssey are lacking

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 03:52 AM PST

I've noticed Im one of the few who didn't mind the modern day stories after Desmond, from what I've noticed about this subreddit, it is common that Desmonds arc is great, but after that everyone is kind've at odds.

I think what made Desmonds arc the best of the modern day times is, how relatable he is, he joined the creed as a skeptical non believer but as he grew to experience the creed and the reasons behind it, we grew with him. Yet with Layla we've been given someone who we dont really understand her emotions or what drives her, we are given that she understands the creed but no touching story of why or how that came to be, really there is very little story building and emotional attachment.

But for Desmond, for all intents and purposes, he was just a kid who had no intention of shouldering this responsibility, but as we watched him we saw how he saw the truth and the things he experienced, the effect a person can have by taking responsibility in society, he slowly gained confidence and hope in making the world a better place.

But the best part was he never acted all knowing, he wasn't obnoxious or over confident, he understood he didn't have all the answers. He was worried he might make mistakes he couldn't fix, that he was playing with too much power.

This is something Layla tends to lack, she tends to not show doubt, is too eager to act quickly, doing things she alone thinks is right, making decisions on her own whilst ignoring advice from her team. Her whole story is more of a Lara Croft tomb raiding. When playing the dlc about the staff, she lusts the power, even when she killed her friend, she did it because she was deciding things all by herself, ignoring the warnings of the bleeding effects by her friend, even ignoring the isu who were telling her she was being to aggressive and irrational, she is always thinking she's the one doing the right thing only to realise her mistakes after every time, never learning.

After odyssey I think I've realised why Layla is lacking. She is too keen to have power beyond her, to quick to dismiss other people's opinions and reasoning, a reasonable story but not for our main character.

In conclusion: it's because she is suppose to be an assassin, but everything she does is more in character with a templar.

Now eventually Desmond died, and in unity and syndicate the modern day was definitely different and less immersive, but it still had heart and history, hearing shaun and how he talks about Desmond now that he's gone, that hit hard.

I really wish we saw more about Desmond and how his sudden death had a huge impact. In a strange way I think he gave hope to the assassins, he had access to the wisdom and knowledge of some of the most prominent and respected assassins in history, and also the answers sorely needed to turn the tide against the templars.

Syndicate kindve showed that the loss of Desmond made everyone decide to go the extra mile, even making Shaun and Rebecca take on more dangerous roles as assassins to fill the void he left behind. Its kindve poetic, he, like Ezio, Altair and Connor, gaith faith to the creed at their hardest times. All of them entered the creed while it was at a point of weakness or corruption, and yet all of them transformed their order into a position of strength and wisdom, it gave you a sense of accomplishment and progression whilst playing, it gave the modern day purpose.

Now it feels like we are watching someone else story, not living it, which is what the first assassins creed games have been so good at.
