Darby's writing style should be the norm for the narrative

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 01:35 PM PST

It's like poetry, it rhymes. Sorry had to say it.

Seriously though, I loved the way characters interacted with each other in Revelations and Black Flag. It truly felt like watching a high budget well written movie or TV series with great dialogue.

Ezio's final speech and Bartholomew Roberts madness rants are simply superb and its the way AC should be written. After all, the historical narrative is historical, yet I felt, in Odyssey, that it was written in a very modern sense. Not saying it's bad dialogue (MD dialogue was bad tho) but... Very odd.

I know not if ancient people talked like they do in Revelations and Black Flag but it doesn't matter.

The feel is the most important thing. I feel Im watching two people talk, real people from that period and saying wonderful things about life in the process. It's great. They don't feel like two modern people talking in an ancient setting.

Regarding Modern Day, the seriousness of AC3 and the dry humor of Shaun in AC2 represent AC modern day writing at its best. You can have serious and fun at the same time but the first mut prevail. Instead of the current casual vibe we get from Layla and her team.

History is filled with great examples of Templar leaders to build a game around. Here are a few ideas I had.

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 11:25 AM PST

So, like many people here my draw to the AC franchise is mainly due to its historical setting. I think it's fair to say that despite any other issues there may be with the games, they always nail the map making, and usually provide a good alternative history to mix in with the real historical events.

All of this is to say that in my opinion, they could really choose any location or time in history, and as long as they give these aspects the same attention as in previous games, I will still be happy to play them. With that in mind, here are a few different people in history that have made me think of the Templars while learning about them:

    Cecil Rhodes (1853-1902) Colonial Africa

In terms of a narrative, I think this setting has a lot of promise. Apart from the obvious dynamic of colonialism vs self determination, this time is filled with tons of backstabbing and uprisings that could fit very well into a game. Cecil Rhodes is the founder of De Beers (the diamond mining company), as well as the territory of Rhodesia (modern day Zimbabwe and Zambia). These two things alone make him a perfect Templar candidate, but when you read about his life philosophies, it makes it even better. In his will, he stated that the Anglo-Saxon race was the, "first race in the world," and that, " the more of the world we inhabit the better it is for the human race." If that doesn't sound like a Templar than I don't know what is. There's more to read about him, and he (like any person in history) isn't necessarily the antichrist that a game like this would portray him, but I think he fits the bill nicely. As for the setting of southern Africa, I think the game devs have shown that they can make any setting work, and as long as they adapt the game to fit savannah's, plains, and small colonial towns, the setting could really work.

    Suryavarman II (?~1145) Cambodia

There's not a whole lot of information about him, at least in English, but there are a couple things that make me think of him as a great Templar example. Right off the bat, I know some people might say that this doesn't work because Templars were only just becoming a thing, and there's no way that it would have made it all the way to east Asia yet. My response is that the writer's will just figure something out lol. That's what they did for Origins and Odyssey, so I'm fine with them creating some proto-templar east Asian order. Anyways, Suryavarman grabbed power of the Khmer empire at a time when the government was losing control. In classic regal fashion, he killed another claimant to the throne, and then murdered his feeble uncle, who was the current king. Then, through a combination of military campaigns and treaties, he was able to consolidate power, and return the throne to prominence. also, he started construction on Angkor Wat, which although not finished before his death, was still a very significant event in Khmer history. In terms of setting, Angkor was supposedly a huge metropolis, and the center of all wealth and trade in the region. I think by all accounts, this would make a really fun location to have an AC game.

Diocletian (244-311) Somewhere in the Roman Empire

Ok this one has to be my favorite, I would kill for a game set in this time period that has so much historical significance. Diocletian came to power after the Crisis of the Third Century. Assassinations, diseases, invasions, and more had left the empire in shambles, and at risk of falling apart completely. Enter Diocletian, and what an entrance he had. His rise to power is better documented than Suryavarman II, but like him it really seems like he had to do some serious scheming to become emperor of Rome. As emperor, he reformed the entire empire from the top down. His reforms brought stability to an extremely tumultuous era, and extended the life of the Roman empire for almost 200 years (or longer if you consider the Byzantium empire to be a continuation). At the same time, he came down hard on dissidents. There was a really heavy handed persecution of Christians during his reign, as well as a crack-down on Egypt's uprising due to tax reforms. This relationship is why I like Diocletian as an antagonist; because while he was ultimately the prime example of an autocratic dictator, many of his reforms were extremely necessary, and brought stability to an empire that was on the verge of collapse. Once Rome eventually does fracture almost 200~ years after Diocletian's reign, the people who were under its domain are sent in to a period of chaos where roaming tribes could plunder and loot your village without any army to defend you. Early AC during the death cutscenes would present this debate between Assassins (Freedom with Chaos) and Templars (Order with oppression), and I think that Diocletian's reign is a perfect place to frame the debate in a way that challenges the Assassin narrative, and really adds some depth to the franchise. If they were to commit to a few sequels of this time period too, they could absolutely lay down the beginning of the Templar order. It isn't too long after Diocletian's reign (which by the way, he ends up abdicating his power which is another thing that is so wild to me!) that Constantine the Great becomes emperor of Rome. Credited as being the first Christian emperor, Constantine would be the perfect man to start a society based around Christianity, whose purpose was to control humanity. He spent time in Diocletian's court as well, giving the connection needed between the two of them. If Constantine was the father of the Templars (or whatever name they would be called before Templars actually become a thing) then Diocletian could be the Grandfather.

Wow ok this is really a long one, it's pretty clear that I am the most enthusiastic about Diocletian. The only difficulty I could see is creating a map for this game. The actual city of Rome at this point is pretty insignificant, as the centers of power have moved around, and many of the great buildings have become decrepit. Nicomedia is where Diocletian held his court, and other cities had more relevance too, but they span very large distances, from Spain to Turkey. I know that the trend has changed in gaming to be one large map, instead of a few smaller maps (like AC2) but I think that this segmented option would just work better for a game like this. Personally, although the loading screen wasn't great, I enjoyed being able to experience entirely different locations in one game. the diversity between a place like Venice and Florence gave a larger feel to the game.

So those are just a few examples of some striking historical figures that I would love to see a game made around. I know that there is essentially a 0% chance that any of these would actually happen, yet I can't help but fantasize about what could be. I'd also be curious to hear if anyone else has thought of some good antagonists for a game. I would love it if people had some examples from more obscure parts of history about which they have more knowledge than the average person. If not, thanks anyways for reading!

    Ideas of future “Assassin gadgets”

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 07:01 AM PST

Almost every AC game introduces one or more new gadgets exclusive to either the brotherhood or that specific chapter.

AC2: hidden gun, poison blade/darts, double hidden blade

    ACB: parachute

    ACR: Hookblade

    AC3: turning hidden blade

    AC4: blowpipe

    ACU: phantom blade

    ACS: grappling hook

My main question is, what other gadgets do you think would suit a future possible AC game?

I personally believe a quick-draw gun would suit a cowboy times AC game perfectly.

Edit: sorry if I forgot some things, I was half asleep when I wrote this. Also I didn't play Rogue, so sorry

    New rumors regarding AC:Ragnarok!

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 11:31 PM PST

An anonymous 4chan user posted information about the next Assassin's Creed project 2 days ago .

Since there were no confirmation by Ubisoft take all the following information with a grain of salt

1.The main protagonist name is Vildä and this time the players will not be able to choose a gender

2.Vildä is a strong-willed warrior and leader of the special branch of the "Shield-Maidens" within the Brotherhood.

3.The game begins with a prologue, which shows the raid on Lindisfarne, but the main events of the game takes place 30 years later.

4.Among the historical figures will be Ragnar Lodbrok, Ivar the Boneless, Halfdan Ragnarsson, etc.. In the DLC you will have an opportunity to meet the King of France Charles II the Bald.

5.Mjölnir (hammer of Thor) will be one of the Pieces of Eden.

6.Now the dialogue options have more impacts on the story than they were in Odyssey, each dialogue line will completely change the future of the plot

7.Among the weaponary the heroine will have axes, knives, broadaxes and spears.

8.The ability to craft the bombs from Revelation is back and now you will have an ability to make different variations of poisonous and hallucinogenic potions to weaken or kill the enemies.

    9. In order to make some potions, you need to find the matching rare herbs that you can find only in some exact forests or buy from some merchants for a tidy sum.

10.The map will be three times bigger than in Odyssey

11.Players will have access to all of Scandinavia and part of England, part of France will be added in the first story DLC.

12.You can capture territories, but they will have to be protected from regular attacks by the enemy army.

13.The co-op is back, like in Unity you can complete additional missions alone, but they will be more difficult in that case.

    1. In modern-day segment expect the appearance of long-forgotten characters.

15.This is the most ambitious project that Ubisoft have ever created.

16.The name of the project has repeatedly changed over time, at first the project had the codename "Kingdom" then "Valhalla" and now it's entitled "Ragnarok"

17.The game will be announced in early 2020.

What is one thing you would change about each assassins story?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 08:44 AM PST

Ok, so we've all heard one complaint about at least one game or another. And everyone talks about mechanics or development and what's wrong with the games and blah blah blah...

So I thought it might be fun if we looked at what we thought was the BEST game and found a small way to improve its STORYLINE

For me, my favorite is Blackflag. There's not much I would change about the game when it came out and only minimal things now after my fourth play through.

The intense emotional turmoil near the end (I.e. the "spectres") bear the game was gut wrenching. But if I was to change anything it would be the modern day storyline. In the end, all of what happened with Desmond was basically pointless and the new "character" was never established or fleshed out. It seemed so directionless. And it felt like there really was some untapped potential there

Edit: for clarification, I want to know about your ONE FAVORITE game, but I want to hear about each game through everybody. You don't have to go through every game lol

Thoughts on the rumors for the next AC game?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 09:08 AM PST

I have read rumors about the next AC game and I am excited. However I hear it is going to be massive which is a problem of mine. I want it to be big but I don't want it to be as big as Odyssey. I love Odyssey but I felt it was a tad bit big. If the rumors are true I will totally play the new game but I am just afraid it will take multiple months to see everything the map has to offer if the game is as big as I am reading.

I would like to know what everyone thinks about these rumors and what they think the next game will be.

How True That The Assassin’s Creed Developers are to Work on Google Stadia?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 09:05 PM PST

Altaïr was meant to be female in early development?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 01:57 AM PST

Can someone debunk/verify this "rumor"? I've heard it quite a while ago and it stuck with me because I've never been able to find the rumor again.

Is that why Altaïr walks with a swing in his hips?

Does it have something to do with the canceled "Prince of Persia: Assassins"?

I just finished AC Origins! [Spoiler]

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 04:17 PM PST

I am fighting this game since August, I cant believe its over, After a break on Assasin's Creed games for a long time (the Last i played was revelations) I find an RPG level based Assasin's creed game in Egypt, leveling was not something I enjoyed, it actually made me quit the game a lot of times before coming back to it, The story made me Wonder if all this take place before assasin's creed 1, If someone knows tell me,The message i get after I finished the game is dont trust anyone if you want to reach your goal whatever that is, and also never be an ally with someone who is corrupted and he will sell you with the first opportunity. Life didnt change so much same game different players. So what message you get from the game?
