I bought and finished Rogue after five years of not getting it.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 04:30 AM PDT

And now I have to say... Shay's probably my favorite protagonist next to Edward and Evie. I would have done the story slightly different (namely make the Assassins not so blatantly dumb and over-deserving the hate), though what I'd do would probably ruin the message. I wish we got more dynamics between the Assassins and Templars like we do in Rogue. Rogue is one of two games we get where we have properly sympathetic Templars, the other being Unity. We need more games where both sides can be humanized properly.

Though next I have to say... This game reminded me why I dislike the modern day dialogue. Otso Berg is probably my favorite MD character after Desmond and Clay, because he has this intense aura around him. I believe him. I don't believe Violet or Melanie. They feel forced, and I wanted them to shut up most of the time. It reminds me that MD dialogue needs to be made more believable and less over-the-top. A compelling MD is possible, but not with characters like Violet around to call me something a twelve year old who's trying to insult me like the teacher's watching would label me with.

Overall, it's a really good game, and I like how it tied into the rest of the series. I might have already known everything that happened from the wiki and from a review or two, but the experience gave me more appreciation for Shay and for the Templars as a faction.

Don’t buy the standalone AC3 on PS4 during the current Ubisoft sale. It’s cheaper to get it through the Odyssey Season Pass

I thought spartan kick could be used non-lethally?

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 03:03 AM PDT

I just lost out on a good luitenant because my spartan kick just flat out murdered him. This has happened more then once at this point. They get pushed hit a wall and just die. Is there impact damage now as it never seemed to be an issue before? It is upgraded to the 3rd tier. The game even explicitly told me much earlier on that spartan kick could be used non-lethally, so what gives?

[SPOILERS] How Ragnarok Perfectly Connects to Origins and Odyssey

    Posted: 15 Oct 2019 03:16 AM PDT

As I've mentioned a few times before, I'm in the middle of writing a massive post about the early middle ages, and recently finished the section about mythology (including Ragnarok). Since then, it has been on my mind a few times, and I think I have a compelling hypothesis on where the plots of Origins and Odyssey are taking us and how it connects to Ragnarok and the potential events in Kingdom in 2020. MASSIVE SPOILERS for every game + DLC.

So to begin with, Origins establishes that the world is going to end again. Desmond did not stop the end but delayed it by stopping the flare. Time works by having multiple variations of reality expand outwards and restrict back into the node or single points in time which are marked by destruction. Layla even remarks to Berg during FoA that the end of the world is coming. Being that our next game is likely going to be about Vikings and in Norse mythology there would be an end of the world called Ragnarok, I (like many others), believe this will play a key role in the next game.

So what is Ragnarok exactly? It's pretty complex to be honest, as is Norse Mythology as a whole. I'll be breaking it down in more detail in my medieval post, but essentially there are 9 realms that are all connected via a tree called Yggdrasil, but some other realms have other connections such as the realm of Midgard and Asgard being connected by the Bifrost. Midgard is earth, where we live. Asgard is the plain for the Aesir (or gods like Odin and Thor). These Gods have completely dominated the other races of Jotunn or giants and other gods, and they know some are displeased by this. Loki, despite being an Aesir, is punished for his crimes and locked under the earth, with his children Fenrir the wolf and Jormungandr the world eating snake. When humans die, they can either join his child Hel in the domain of Hel or go to Asgard to either Valhalla or Freyja's Fields. Should the valkyries allow you to enter Valhalla, when Ragnarok comes, you join Odin to fight the beasts. Should you go to Hel, you shall ride the giant ship Naglfar to Asgard to fight in Hel's army of the dead. Ragnarok begins when 3 giant golden roosters crow. The God Heimdall will raise his horn as all the beasts, dead, and Jotunn attack Asgard. Fenrir will swallow Odin whole, and Thor will die to Jormungandr's venom after slaying him. On Earth, brother will turn against brother, and endless war will kill most while the moon is swallowed by the beasts and the Jotunn destroy the Bifrost. A massive dragon would then gnaw at Yggdrasil and cause it to fall. In the end, all that will be left are the two humans of Lif and Lifprasir who will repopulate the earth.

That last part reminds me a lot of the Judeo-Christian story of Adam and Eve. We know from AC Lore that they were real people, and were the first of the human rebels due to containing Isu-DNA. The ending of Liberation explicitly has the Isu on the artifact disk saying "Eve will lead us all", and the ending of AC3 has Minerva discussing the after-effects of the world ending, how Desmond's story would be contorted to be messiah-esque figure, and would eventually be a religious figure after years of manipulation and loss of records. Ragnarok seems to have a similar idea within it, of the deification of the repopulators of Midgard.

But what does that have to do with Odyssey? Odyssey's base game has a few major points. The first is the Olympos project in which we see humans are turned into beasts for the Isu. While we only see those of Greek Mythology, it'd make sense if they formed the basis of other mythological creatures, like a Kraken that's rumored to appear in Kingdom. Kassandra also managed to live for about 2500 years, and as she hands Layla the staff, says to her "Promise me, when you're done? Destroy them. Destroy them all." This baffled me for a while, as it seems to indicate that Kassandra wants all of the pieces of Eden destroyed, which essentially destroys a large part of the interconnected plot. But I don't think that's the case.

The DLC Fate of Atlantis is in the end about Alethia's discovery of the Olympos Project and Sinking of Atlantis. But then thousands of years later it becomes important for Kassandra to lock Atlantis with the staff, and hold onto that for Layla. But all the staff offers access to is the inner chamber of Atlantis, which Alethia controls who gets inside. It could have been left in Atlantis for Layla with no big deal, and nothing in Atlantis' DLC shows why the Staff is so important or why Atlantis had to stay locked.

I think Ragnarok explains why, though. The Staff isn't meant to be some ultra-powerful technology that can do anything, it's a means to an end. It extends the life of an individual so it can pass down knowledge. It needs to show the keeper why Atlantis was sunk to understand what the end of the world will be, and only then can Eve lead us all.

To simplify, the staff is a warning about the Olympos projects. We see in Odyssey the Olympos beasts coming back to life after hundreds of years after being slain originally. We know that this project deeply divided the Isu communities, and that there were some trying to warn humans about another apocalypse coming. Only the keeper can hold the staff and learn about the true monsters created, because she, Eve, or Layla will have to lead Humanity against them. "Destroy them. Destroy them all." This wasn't a message about the pieces of Eden. Kassandra knew what she had to face to lock the secrets of Atlantis from the world until Eve could take the staff. And Kassandra knew what Layla would have to face with Ragnarok. She has to destroy all the beasts to stop Ragnarok. The beasts are at the core of Ragnarok, and the last two games warned us about the end of the world and the beasts of Olympos respectively.

Alternatively, Origins set us up with the idea that Time Travel can exist when understanding the code of time. If the staff can help teach that language, by being used as a conduit for knowledge to Layla, she can learn how to use the animus to travel back in time to stop Aita and destroy all the beasts before they can be freed to cause Ragnarok. Either way, I am hoping that Atlantis is relevant to Ragnarok, and I think that these options are the most logically sound way for that to happen. That said, I do think we'll end up hunting for a PoE like Mjolnir that will be the key element that's actually powerful enough destroy the beasts for good.

TL;DR: The end of the world is going to be Ragnarok, caused by giant Olympos Project beasts destroying the earth, which is what origins and Odyssey were trying to warn.

Edit: Thanks for the silver! As many of you pointed out, I did simplify Norse Mythology a bit. I'm aware of many of the facts you guys were posting, but left them out just to keep it simple for the theory. If there are any omissions you feel are very egregious, let me know so I can make sure that is included in my comprehensive medieval post that should be coming soon.

    AC Odyssey - content over?

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 05:39 AM PDT

Just finished the last Lost Tales of Greece quest (the Sokrates one) and noticed it didn't even have an achievement linked to it. Was that the last piece of content they pushed out? Played the entire main story and both DLCs and would like to free some space if they won't be adding anything else after this one :)

A feature wish for future titles

    Posted: 15 Oct 2019 06:40 PM PDT

The short of it is, I had cancer and while in remission I have damage to my eyes and light/contrast is difficult to deal with for me and in Odyssey I would always have it on night cycle. I just wish there was an option where you could always have it on that. I get that Ubi probably doesn't always want it because it could effect the experience or make it an ability etc..whatever. But daytime in the game world really sucks for me. I couldn't see at all in FOA in Elysium. It was like staring into the sun despite wearing sunglasses..in the dark. I just wish I could have the ability to set it at night all the time

Does the loot quality scale up with the level or the gear you are currently wearing.

I just think its annoying getting a set and instantly having to change it again, because of its bad stats. Upgrading is expensive. So does the loot quality scale up with your level or your current gear (like in destiny etc.)?

The fans aren’t wrong on either end

    Posted: 15 Oct 2019 03:05 PM PDT

The assassins creed games as a franchise has definitely changed dramatically from when I was a child. Now there are larger areas to explore more armors and weapons and more rpg esk elements, shit I would even say after origins it's become a rpg. But it's not a assassins creed game and the detractors who say that are right. The game wasn't a open world rpg in the beginning it was a single story linear game taking place in historical settings. Now those happy with the changes should be the game looks beautiful but it's not a Assassins creed game, it just has snippets and is in the same universe but your not a assassin or even a Templar in the new game.

New to Odyssey, could use some explanation with crafting.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 04:37 AM PDT

Title pretty much sums it up. I just left the first island and after reaching level 5 i got a bunch of armors (i got the deluxe edition or whatever its called) and they look cool. Now i found some other generic athenian armor and its better? I tried engraving the one I liked but it still says level 5 and offers less protection than the one I just picked. It did give some hunter 5% bonus, which I assume it's related to bow damage. So I'm a bit confused here, can I finish the game with one armor that I like as long as I keep engraving or upgrading it?

Bare in mind I come from origins where you only get outfits, and the only crafting rpg background I have it's the witcher 3 so im confused as hell. Should I just take the new armors I find a long the way?

Also, despite completing all side quest from the first island, still can't assassinate "elite" enemies nor can I get one head shot kill with the bow even with regular grunts. Any tips?

[Rambling] Some things I want in the potential new Viking game coming get. This is based off of me playing the base assassins creed odyssey game.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 03:24 AM PDT

    • The option to dual wield one handed weapons, as well as have the choice of shields.

    • Im not entirely sure how historically accurate this is, but claymores, if we're going to be raiding Scotland and England, I want some bad ass Scottish two handed great swords.

    • Allow more customisation options at the start of the game.

    • Allow crews with both male and females. (I'm not disregarding gender fluid people or trans people, I was just want to make my point clear)

    • Don't have warrior/hunter/assassin damage tied to weapons or bows, I prefer to have one of my weapon slots with just fists for example, without my build being less effective.

    • More customisation options for the ship, (sails, hull colours, decorations, models etc.)

    • Don't get rid of the gender choice system, the armour/weapon appearance option, as well as the uniqueness of the legendary weapons/ armour sets.

    • Please allow us to get Nordic tattoos/ war paint.

    • Make the warrior abilities less useless/ situational. (I know I'm gonna piss people off but the Spartan kick, bull rush and shield breaker abilities where pointless, please give them a massive buff) please keep the flame/toxic infusion abilities, they were cool as hell.

    • Less tankier enemies, some fights where a real chore to do, especially as a warrior in ac odyssey.

    • Give the option to unequip bows and arrows.

Will Unity/Syndicate/Origins ever come to switch?

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 02:41 AM PDT

I understand the size of Origins/Odyssey may be a problem for the system, but if the Witcher III is coming to the system it must be able to run at least Unity and Syndicate, right?

The new games aren’t even good RPG games compared to Witcher 3 or Skyrim

    Posted: 15 Oct 2019 06:24 PM PDT

The story is no where near as well written as Witcher 3 I don't remember any characters besides Kassandra and the exploration is not as rewarding as Skyrim or Witcher 3 because the map just feels like a large amount of the same locations. Honestly if the the games didn't have Assassin Creed on it and some elements of the franchise they would be considered just Witcher clones.

Fellow AC Fans, What were your first 3 games and how was your experience?

    Posted: 15 Oct 2019 08:15 AM PDT

Excuse me for my grammar, but here goes:

    My 'Trilogy' consisted of:

    • Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
    • Assassin's Creed Revelations
    • Assassin's Creed Rogue

Brotherhood was a great game, I had ton of fun playing it. I didn't know anything about the plot back then, as I was just trying to find stealth games. It had expertly crafted combat and stealth mechanics, numerous historical characters which really made it interesting to play the story.

I picked up Revelations some weeks after I completed Brotherhood. Though this time, I didn't understand any plot point like the Isu, subject 13 or Abstergo, at all. But I was really invested in Ezio's story and continued to play it. Just like Brotherhood, it was great.

I later came across Rogue at the store after an year or so and immediately bought it, thinking it was a sequel to Revelations, though I knew I had skipped some games before Brotherhood. One of the most enjoyable parts of the game were the naval battles, It was amazing to visit New York, too. The Shay's 'turn' kind of caught me off guard, since I thought I would be playing as an Assassin for the entire game. The story was kind of short, though.

I later went on to play every other game, of course

Got a few questions my Google Fu cant seem to answer.

    Posted: 15 Oct 2019 06:10 PM PDT

Returning player here. I heard a week ago about how the cool epic encounters were dropping every day all month so I decided to finally finish the game. Last time I played was the week the level cap got removed.

In one Of the new S-tier for mercenaries is says something about hephaistos. Does he offering anything special that other vendors don't?

Speaking of mercenaries, whats the easiest way to flush out the really high level ones. I want to push up for the rewards. I'm not worried about being way underleveled for them (at lvl 58 I was able to kill a 99 merc without loading once) seeing as the combat is broken with hero strike. Full assassin damage in combat? So nice. I've been running around doing side quests and everything else with a 4head bounty all day. Probably killed at least 20-25 with NONE being over my level.

I haven't done the dlc yet.... Or even finished the main game. (Something like 90 hrs playtime.) I HAVE the dlc tho. I know there's an atlantis one. Is it connected to the base game "Atlantis" ending? Do I have to get that ending before playing the dlc?

Spoiler tag for this next question: I'm down to like 5 cultists who aren't leaders. But I have no clues for them. Is it just because I'm only halfway through the main story line and have to progress? Or did I lock them out somehow? Once or twice I actually killed a few by complete accident. Just got a prompt for confirm after killing some schmuck. Are all cultists somewhere in the overworked no matter what? Or do some have spawn conditions.

I've got a looooot of sweet sweet legendary gear. But its seriously costly to try and keep it lvled with me. I mostly just use a few now all geared for assassin damage. Two sets of armor, 1 bow, 1 sword 1 spear and a heavy blunt. Is there an easy way to keep them leveled with me? Or do I have to bite the bullet every 10 levels and grind?

do I have to finish the "odyssey" storyline completely before getting the Atlantis one? Or finish the main game before playing the DLC?

And finally, do the tales of Greece missions grant exp? The look awesome so ill probably do them no matter what. I was just curious of I got any rewards.

Thanks in advance for any answers fellow redditors!

    Collection tracking in Origins

    Posted: 15 Oct 2019 12:17 PM PDT

Is there a way to track what you still have to do with the optional collection stuff (e.g. papyrus puzzles, stone circles, etc.)?

In previous editions of AC, you could tell exactly what you still had left to do to get 100% sync. For some reason, I'm not finding that in Origins.

    Thanks!

AC: Kingdom could be drawing inspiration from the show The Last Kingdom

    Posted: 15 Oct 2019 10:26 AM PDT

Ashraf follows an actor from the show on twitter, suggesting he is a character or in fact the protagonist of the game. This could also mean that Ashraf is familiar with the show, and those here who are can attest to how good it is and how well an assassins creed like character and story could fit into this setting. here is a snippet of what it could be like.

In the show the protagonist is both Saxon and Dane which would get round the problem of having a Viking as the protagonist - they weren't the most moral of people and were invaders. Something like this would allow us to play the game like a Viking but get round the obvious problem of playing as a pillager unless they can pull an Edward Kenway style arch or paint the historical depiction of Vikings as abstergo meddling with history.

Anyone know a mod to change player speed in Odyssey?

I played Origins for the first time recently, and now, coming back to Odyssey, I find that I preferred the slower mounts in Origins, especially since so much of Odyssey is mountainous and pretty dangerous to zip around at top speed in. I know you can disable the horse speed reduction in cities, but I'm hoping for an overall speed multiplier (ideally, it'd only apply to mounts, but that seems unlikely).

    More ac games on switch

    Posted: 15 Oct 2019 11:43 AM PDT

I've been playing ac 3 on the switch and it works really well. I think they should take some of the older ac games where they still worked off of the mash sqaure style combat system. I don't think the newer combat system that we have in origins and odyssey, and are probably going to have in kingdoms, would work well on the switch. It's not because the newer combat system is bad it's because it would feel strange or clustered on the switch. Ac games like black flag or the ezio games would be awesome on the switch. Unity and Syndicate would work too but the graphics might be too much. I know if they added more I'd get them.
