Community Discussion - Sailing in Assassin's Creed | The Mentors Guild

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 06:54 AM PDT

    Hi all,

This week's Community Discussion is about sailing!

MAKING SURE THE FANS ARE HEARD

As part of a set of new Community Initiatives, we'd like to give opportunities to the community to give more direct feedback, and will now host weekly discussion on specific topics that relate the Assassin's Creed Franchise. These community discussions will take place on the AC subreddit, the Official Ubisoft Forums, and on the Mentors Guild Twitter. These discussions will be open for 1 week. The threads and responses will be shared directly with the Assassin's Creed Community Development team, who will then pass that info on to concerned parties within Ubisoft itself.

While the Mentors get opportunities to speak directly with the creators of Assassin's Creed and frequently communicate with the Community Development Team, this is not the case for every fan. We want to change that. We want fans to have their voices heard directly, in the same ways the Mentors do. These activities are a step towards meeting this goal. If you want Ubisoft to see what you have to say, this is the place to do it.

    THIS WEEK'S TOPIC

    Topic: Historical Accuracy

Info: The ability to sail and control and entire ship was implemented in the series with Assassin's Creed 3, but didn't become a integral part of the game until Assassin's Creed Black Flag, and again with Assassin's Creed Rogue. Sailing was left out of the next 2 AC titles, but made a small return in Assassin's Creed Origins, and was a massive part of Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

    QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:

-Do you enjoy sailing? Why or why not?

-Which game has the best version of sailing gameplay in your opinion?

-Do you think sailing should be implemented in AC games when the setting permits?

-Which setting would you like to see in a future AC game that would involve sailing?

-Is sailing an integral part of the Assassin's Creed series?

-If you could change anything about the sailing experience what would it be?

-If sailing is part of future AC games, how much of the game should be based in it? (example Black Flag's gameplay is about 40% sailing)

As always, please feel free to add any thoughts you might have that are not covered by these example questions!

    REMEMBER:

While these discussions are meant to allow for honest and raw feedback directly from the community, the best way to ensure your voice is heard is to be constructive - be critical of the process, not the people. Be specific with your criticisms and suggest tangible solutions and improvements. We hope to see active participation and that this will be a successful way of getting the fans' voices truly heard.

AC Unity’s Memories of Versailles is one of the best video game sequences I’ve played in a while.

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 04:38 AM PDT

Disclaimer: This is not a Odyssey bad Unity good post. Based on my previous posts, people seem to think that just because I praise Unity automatically means I'm comparing it to Odyssey.

From meeting Arno as a child to the spectacular mocapped cutscenes, the music, graphics and memories were amazing.

The soundtrack was breathtaking; On Father's Watch, Versailles for Sore Eyes just to name two.

I've never seen any other game depict historical high society life as well as Unity did and I think it deserves some credit in this department. As a matter of fact, I don't think RDR2's Saint Denis chapter did as good a job as Unity.

In many ways, this serves as one of the most memorable moments in gaming for me as a hobby. Unity's first sequence simply wowed me in the best ways possible.

    :) have a good day!

"The whispers" of the assassins in AC Rogue was a great idea

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 05:04 AM PDT

You know what I mean: they were introduced in the Brotherhood's MP as a way to tell that a pursuer is close to you. They added the whispers to the campaign of AC Rogue. The presence is notified by whispering sounds and a unique border around the edge of the screen.

It gave an additional stressful effect in hostile environments. I wish this idea had been more exploited, although it's a very special situation with a Templar tracking assassins.

This shows that there is always a way to renew the gameplay without necessarily going through the "RPG elements"...

    Learning from Spider-Man (PS4)

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 11:51 PM PDT

The next assassins creed should have a spider-man inspired parkour system.

In spider-man, spidey keeps his momentum from free-fall. The same should be a no-brainer for assassins creed.

After free falling, the player can go even faster, grabbing a ledge and - using the built-up momentum - swing to a higher point on the next building.

Or when the player falls from a short distance (2 stories) they can choose to keep running (using the momentum from the fall) - making them run faster than the normal run or stop and roll.

    Tl:Dr Ubisoft + insomniac = good game.

    AC Origins in a Museum

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 05:28 AM PDT

I went to the National Geographic Museum in DC yesterday to check out the final day of the Queens of Egypt exhibit. Throughout the exhibit they had video stations to explain different things. There were several that were from the AC Origins Discovery Tour (Hieroglyphics, mummification, etc.) I remember reading that Ubisoft really wanted the Discovery Tour to be used in educational settings like classrooms, and it was cool to see it in practice. I haven't tried out the Discovery Tour in Odyssey yet, but I really enjoyed it in Origins.

I thought of the perfect way to describe the new direction of AC.

It's like ordering a pizza online, and being sent a chocolate cake instead. This isn't a bad option, you just don't know how the two are related and how PizzaPizza sends you a fucking cake.

Odyssey becomes such a cakewalk with a build centered around crit at full health.

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 03:38 PM PDT

Every single hit is overkill. Enhanced second wind and battlecry of Ares take every fight to a whole new level of easy, especially with health on hit perks in your abilities lists. Esentially you get health for doing damage, and when you get to full health, you do way much more damage than you should be allowed to.

Combine this with Shroud of Penelope and pMaster of Waters/Copycat sword for best crit chance and armour engravings for crit chance at full health and crit damage on weapons, you become a monster.

It's very easy to raise crit at full health above 100% without use of any ability points simply by upgrading armour.

With literally any build centered around guaranteed crits you kill entire chunks of soldiers in a single spread shot in a battle, you one hit critical assassinate every enemy in the game so long as you have a couple of assassin damage boosts, and you kill most enemies in 2-3 hits. Add that to an assassin orientated Atlantis spear and the cursed spear of Achilles perk engraved on your bow and the game becomes way too unfair.

Cerberus? Dead in around 20 seconds. Hekatonchires? Dead in around a minute, would have been less if no cutscenes.

Heracles dies in a critical assassinate. Everything does.

Boom. Power fantasy met. You feel like an assassin. Maybe too much so.

Quebec and Montreal looks and designs qeustion?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 07:02 PM PDT

I don't know if this makes sense but with like syndicate it looks beautiful but has like a cartooney look to it compared to unity or another example is Odyssey to origins maybe it just me but I'd like to hear from other people about this.

I think the next AC game should be modelled after Unity.

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 04:25 AM PDT

So, it's pretty obvious that the next AC will be set in the Vikings Era, and an RPG-styles game might work, but I and many others would prefer a more "assassiny" feel towards gameplay and story. Unity/Syndicate had the best representation of what an Assassin's Creed game should be. I do think that ship-sailing could be integrated, and Ubisoft could hit all of its marks with the next AC game if it just doesn't make an RPG.

Edit: I wanted to change "fan base" to "I and many others" because people think the fan base prefers the recent direction. There are too many fans to determine what decision is more popular, but I talked to many players and they said they prefer the old AC, so I just put that as such.

The only thing Ubisoft gets right. Soundtrack.

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 11:59 PM PDT

We can hate on Ubi all day, and we can talk about how the last AC games don't really feel like AC. I get everyone's point in this sub, but what I truly still appreciate and enjoy is the soundtrack of every game.

I bet that if I start playing "Venice rooftops" most of you will recognize it. Ubi might've lost the value of the games and story line, but at least they understood the importance and impact a good track has on your experience in the games.

I'm not here to shit on origins and odyssey( I love them!) but I think the "older" tracks (those in the Ezio Trilogy for example) are more iconic and set the mood better. My absolute favourite soundtrack is that of AC3. I think it really helps set the mood and give an idea of the combination between the really native American sounds and beats and the really "modern" ones.

What are some of your favourite tracks?

I've only played AC: Origins & Odyssey. Considering going through whole series in order.

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 02:55 PM PDT

I absolutely adore both Origins and Odyssey, played them fully completionist twice. I understand here some don't consider these games "real" AC games because of the open world, combat focused RPG game play though.

I have no problem with stealthy games though, loved the old Thief series and in games like Dishonored I always go full stealthy route.

My question is if I play through them all starting with AC1 will I still be able to appreciate the early games? Nostalgia plays a strong part in love for older games and I don't have the nostalgia for the early titles. Are they worth my time?

Anyone Know of any Assassin's Creed Artists with a Store?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 10:21 AM PDT

I'm trying to find an art print either of Altaïr or Ezio to gift to my friend for her bachelorette party. Bonus points if the artist draws things one might consider "risque". It is a bachelorette party, after all.

Suggestions for artists that take commissions are also rad.

Also if you yourself are an artist that is looking to take in commissions, please don't hesitate to respond!

    AC:Rogue - Very impressive.

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 09:28 AM PDT

I've held of playing AC games set in the colonies as that part of history bores me to sleep so I got Rogue for free on my Xbox One and only just decided to play it last month. Wow. I enjoyed the game so much as it's similar to AC:4. (Shame it cant be said for AC:3 Horrible game) the perspective change was nice and it allowed the modern day to be explained a bit better. The only issue I had was the Assassin fights weren't challenging enough (apart from Hope) The Assassins led by Achilles was dreadful. Shay was a character that wasn't in it for control, only to save lives and for that doesn't make him a 'proper Templar' which makes him more likeable.

    The Auditore and Kenway lines

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 01:09 AM PDT

So, I couldn't find a clear answer online, hoping someone can explain here.

Where and how does the Kenway and Auditore line meet?

How can Desmond track Connor? (Since Desmond is part of the Auditore line)

In AC4, who is the person that is an ancestor to Edward (the one we control in modern time)

I have this problem where I have gear in my inventory that is only purple but I can't dismantle them, I can't sell them and I can't even put them in my ship storage. Does anyone know how to fix this. I just want my legendaries in my inventory to make it look neater.

What's everyones favourite AC origins outfits?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 07:57 AM PDT

Before everyone says something along the lines of "But odyssey is out why don't you ask about that?!" Keep in mind that odyssey allows you to add different armours so it isn't consistent. With that clarified, my favourite costumes are,

    (1) Bayek outfit, (2) The radiance of Anubis (3) The black hood.

I like these because they look cool and I still feel like Bayek, not some fire anubis. And its interesting what the community feels what is their favourite cosmetic.

    New Assassins Creed Location Idea

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 02:26 PM PDT

Wouldn't it be cool if there was an AC game set in Argentina around the rise of the guerilla movement in the 1970s? They tried to raise public support during the especially repressive Onganía regime by helping the people and assassinating key figures. I know some people are opposed to a more modern AC game but I think it would be really cool to climb on modern buildings and explore a South American country, which I think is new for the franchise?

Is there still an active online community on Xbox One?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2019 01:03 PM PDT

Curious if there is still an active playerbase for any online modes for ACR, AC3, or ACBF. I used to love the social stealth elements and had so much fun playing online AC a while ago. Wondering if it is possible to get a match!
