Ubisoft chasing trends rather than focusing on their own ideas and DNA

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 04:08 AM PDT

Watched a video from Laymen Gaming today that made a lot of things obvious

With the recent trilogy and now the new live service focus they have announced, quoting Fortnite and GTA:O, it's clear that Ubisoft are just chasing trends

The recent trilogy has earned a ton of money compared to previous titles and yet they're completely changing the formula again which tells you all you need to know. How much is enough for them or how are they judging success?

I know people will say "it's no different to the current games with seasonal events and post-dlc"

But look at how easily Ubi changes their plans and focus where money is concerned, their micro transactions already take the piss so I fully expect them to be even worse once this kicks off

Gameplay will change significantly to push for purchases of microtransactions, that's how those games survive.

Do we really want AC to be even grindier than the last few games have been?

What we know so far about AC Infinity ( Official information given by Ubisoft and leaks provided by Jason Schrier )

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 07:31 PM PDT

Since i didn't find any full or simpler compiles of actual pieces of information here and all i find out there are big news vehicles just slapping Fortnite and GTA Online into clickbait headlines and YouTube thumbnails, which obviously created this massive gigantic hatewagon based on a severe lack of information and thousands of assumptions, here's ( what i hope it's ) a simple summary of everything we know about AC Infinity based on Ubisoft's official information and the leaks provided by Jason Schrier's anonymous source.

    Official information given by Ubisoft:

    • Very early stages of development.
    • Not coming out before 2024.

Information from leaks by Schrier's anonymous source ( source apparently from inside Ubisoft itself )

    • It's live service. Just remember that single player live service games can exist, like Halo Infinite, that will be a 100% singleplayer live service game, before your mind shifts for Anthem, Fortnite or Destiny.
    • A hub for all things AC ( no one knows if it will be a Hitman-esque hub, where the game itself is the hub or if it's gonna be a in game hub ).
    • Inspiration from the Helix menu from AC Unity ( in case you don't know, it's the menu with all the different time periods that appear at the very beginning of the game ).
    • Set in multiple time periods.
    • More time periods to be added as the game goes.
    • Gameplay from each time period will differ, but will all be connected.
    • Single player narrative focused campaigns, but doesn't know how or if multiplayer will be a thing in it ( A lot of people may wanna pay special attention to this one ).

Now, before the likely downvotes show up, know that i'm not defending Ubisoft in any way, shape or form, i'd just like people who are genuinely in search of information to be actually informed, instead of being missinformed by people who just read the headlines, then start spreading assumptions as facts. You have assumptions, predictions or expectations, wheter positive or negative? By all means, share them with whoever you want, just don't spread it as a fact.

Just give us fucking New Game+ for Valhalla

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 03:52 PM PDT

Im so tired of them adding stuff like broken mastery challenges and festivals that break the whole fucking game. I want to reply the story without loosing all progress i had to grind to achieve.

Yes the story is long and boring as shit, i don't care, i want to reply the game and grind and do the exact same shit i did before, it's just who I am and i know i can't be the only one.

A Mock-Up for Infinity´s future: one HUB with big and small projects showing off cities, countries, single-player and co-op.

[Spoilers] The stories in the last 3 AC games have been medicore at best and wasted a lot of potential. I wish Ubisoft would hire better writers

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 05:59 PM PDT

Even the much praised AC Origins here had a medicore story. I mean Bayek was an amazing character but the actual story is lacking. It was supposed to be the origin story of the Brotherhood, instead we got another cliche revenge story with some barebones origin elements tacked on in the last hour or so. Historical figures like Caesar were completely wasted too. Aya was also a very one note and underdeveloped character considering her importance.

AC Odyssey's story didn't have to do as much but its overall just tedious. The Isu focus had a lot of potential but was just used to have more fantasy boss fights and over the top combat, sadly that's how the isu are now. Kassandra/Alexios were inconsistent bland characters because of the RPG stufff. There is really nothing engaging going on here

AC Valhalla showed a lot of promise in its prologue but it was just way too dragged out. Half of the alliance arcs could be deleted without any problems at all. Its still more consistent than the other two and I suspect that's because of Darby

There's a plot point in Unity that kind of baffles me (sequence 10/11)

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 12:59 PM PDT

It's when the bortherhood kicks him out. I'm not that much into the AC lore, but I thought the Assassins were a clandestine organisation with secrecy being an integral part of their modus operandi. Most people don't know they exist, and even those who do don't who exactly involved with them. Arno might not be a high rank assassin, but he knows the identity of the leaders, the location of their base, and probably knows a lot of their contacts, etc. So if he decided to walk over to the templars and tell them everything, it would basically guarantee the annihilation of the Parisian assasins. Or even if he decided to sell information to the highest bidder, or foreign powers. And the assasins ... just kick him out.

What I mean is that it would've made more sense to kill him, no? Execute him or assassinate him. I understand the 'trial' scene, because formalities and procedure are important for every organization, but as I was watching, I fully expected that after the council announced the sentence, one of the assassins who escorted Arno there would just try to stab him. I thought, damn, I'll have to fight my way out of the base itself? For a moment I though I'll have to escape even the district through the streets while assassins are trying to dropkill me like that part in Revelations. But no, they just let him walk away.

Like, am I missing something here? Trying to think from the POV of the organisation, would'n it be way too risky to let someone walk away like this? This is not the only problem with Unity's story (otherwise a great game IMO), but this one really made me raise my eyebrow.

Thoughts on a templar Black Cross spinoff game?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 08:13 PM PDT

I think it would be pretty interesting to play as a Black Cross agent that hunts down corrupt Templars while also evading and fighting off Assassins. Watchu guys think? Could bring people back to the franchise imo

Mastery Challenges are painful to play, and not just because its too hard/stealth is broken.

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 10:36 PM PDT

They are hard (to get gold, at least), but I mean… just doing them sucks. I'm usually a completionist but this is just painful to play. I don't understand how its possible to have fun doing this.

I'm at the part where the third wave of shrines open up. I'm assuming this is the last set, but I don't even want to bother. I know there's a story that has stuff that I care most about, but it's just not worth it. 9 missions is my limit.

Definitely seems like it'll be expanded in the future, which sucks. I would have paid Ubisoft for them to have never created this free mode. At least I wouldn't be missing story stuff.

Just like some of the cairns, some of the altars, and the deliveries for your settlement. It'd be a better game without this. This will be the first AC I don't complete everything in because its just too tedious. Feels like a monotonous job.

I surely can't be the only one thinking this. I have seen frustration, which I totally agree with. But does anyone else feel like the entire concept is flawed?

Why is Family Legacy a side quest?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 09:13 PM PDT

Just finished the Family Legacy side quest and a new odyssey has been added to the main quests log. This seems like a very important quest so why is the starting quest a side quest? Since some people don't do side quests that much and only focus on the main quests I feel like putting this as a side quest makes it missable for those people

AC Infinity: Assassin's Creed set in Japan is probably coming

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 05:04 PM PDT

As stated in the title, from what I understand about AC Infinity it'll be something like the Helix menu from the beginning of Unity that showed a bunch of different stories/worlds to experience. So Ancient Japan will probably be one of the worlds that Infinity explores.

And for the longest time I was im the camp of wanting a Assassin's Creed Japan game. But after playing Ghost of Tsushima, I have absolutely no interest in Ubisoft giving us the one game we've been asking for for over a decade. This is simply because based on their current style of game they put out, absolutely nothing they will do will be as good as what Sucker Punch did with GoT in my opinion.

So im playing unity for the first time ever, and I can't wrap my head about why do so many ppl hate it?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 07:48 AM PDT

So im actually playing all the series from the start for the first time so now im at unity and its the most game I've ever enjoyed in the series on bar with black flag, the parkour is amazing the graphics the feel of the world the stealth, it was a perfect ac game in terms of gameplay, as in story im still in sequence 8 but it feels like the start of the game feels like only smal progression, but as all of acs the ending become so fun and tells u alot in the story and i hope that's the case, and oh lord the assassination missions is just amazing for you to plan stuff u feel like the real deal the mind behind everything not just go stab stab done i mean i liked it but this adds whole more to the missions, well that was my opinion, i would love to hear yours? And a question apart from its buggy release, why do you hate it now? I would like to hear

Frankly, Ubisoft know when their bread is buttered. And it's for this reason that I dont think any of us need to worry about Infinity being a multiplayer only game.

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 05:50 PM PDT

It's been what? 13 years? Since the first game released... it's been a single player game since, with only small dabblings in MP content... quite frankly, especially seeing as how popular these new AC games are... I dont think Ubisoft are stupid enough to drastically change the formula here... they have always been single player games first and foremost.. its just worrying that the games cited as the reason for this project are Fortnite and GTA:O, some of the worst, most predatory, anti-consumer games out there.

Nothing is true, everything is permitted

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 09:37 AM PDT

So I am going through another playthrough of Black Flag...because it is awesome.

I have reached the endgame, where Edward is discussing the meaning of the Creed with Ah Tabai. It reminds me of the philosophical discussions Ezio would have, particularly the conversation he has with Sofia as he walks to Masyaf; also how Bayek felt he needed to do what was right

I really miss this part of AC. I loved the philosophy of the Creed, and how it met and conflicted with the Templar code. It's quite sad to see a noble philosophy reduced to a mercenary and a viking with no real goals other than personal gain

Will AC: Infinity start with the Roman Empire, mini-sequels for past characters, or something in the US?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 11:57 AM PDT

AC: Infinity has to really reach the biggest crowd possible right out of the gate and I think Roman Empire is the easiest choice for Ubisoft. It is probably the most requested "setting" since I can remember, other than Feudal Japan, which I think is unlikely with the mega-success of GhostOT. Something in the US would probably earn them a ton of cash. I don't see the American Civil War working but that would be a pretty easy way to print money (imagine the "controversy" of FC5 times 10). Or will Ubisoft just give us a random setting and fill it in? Thoughts?

Combat feels like you’re swinging pool noodles

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 04:21 PM PDT

Like the title says the combat is sadly disappointing as far the overall combat "feel" goes. The swings are too fast, you don't feel the impact when you smash a hatchet into someone (you only do on the finishers), it just feels like your hitting air the whole time...there's just no weight to any of it... imagine if the combat felt like "For honor" or even AC3...

The satisfying feeling you get from slicing through someone with your hatchet in AC3 was one of the main reasons I played that game... It disappointing because half of-what you do in this game is fight, and it's hard to enjoy that when the combat is not satisfying. If any of you have played for honor you'll know what I mean... the weight of the swings and impact is perfect, as-well as the animations.. it's all very accurate.

A 25lb sword does NOT swing as fast as a pool noodle. Other then that I love the story and the lore, also the side quests are a step up from odyssey. I know most of the community doesn't agree with how bleak the combat feels so go ahead and downvote...I needed to rant about I

Tomb of Ajax Isu? AC: Odyssey

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 07:56 AM PDT

On the island of Salamis west of Attika, in the main room of the tomb of Ajax where you find the ancient stele, presumably the skeleton of Ajax is sitting on the throne, and it's massive, well larger then normal, looking about Isu sized based on the size difference I've seen in other lore. Also above the skeleton is a painting of two large women, one of which is holding a strange box with a symbol slightly similar to the assassin's logo on it. Idk if this is an Easter egg to something else as I'm not an expert on the games lore by any means, but if you guys have theories or answers I'd love to hear them.

AC Odyssey - Can certain dialogue choices lock you out of quests? [Minor Odyssey Spoiler]

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 08:55 PM PDT

Specifically, I'm referring to Odessa's questline/romance, and one of the dialogue options you can choose at the end of her first quest. You can choose to say "Great is as great does." which to me is the most fitting, but it also pisses her off. I've read multiple sources that say your dialogue choice has no effect on progressing her storyline, but I also read here that choosing the wrong option means "you'll annoy Odessa and lose access to her next quests."

So which is it? Does it actually matter or is the latter source full of crap? And while I'm on the topic, are there any other specific dialogue choices that I should be aware of?

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Should Have Learned From EDWARD KENWAY | Analysis & Discussion

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 12:30 PM PDT

What if AC Infinity gives us a Edward and Bayek campaigns?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2021 07:46 PM PDT

I know Edward is getting a movie sequel but I'd imagine they're still more of his story they could tell before his death in England

And we all want a Bayek sequel that letter in Valhalla gives me hope Bayek will get closure maybe we could get that in Infinity
