AC Valhalla: Mastery Challenges trailer - available June 15

Basim’s outfit is, no joke, the best looking outfit in the game, and it fucking sucks that we don’t have the option to keep the hood up during combat!

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 03:44 PM PDT

Let me preface this by saying that I absolutely love this game. It's in my top 3 favorite games in the AC series next to Origins and Brotherhood. But man is it annoying as fuck that SIX MONTHS LATER we still don't have the ability to just keep our hood up during combat and WITHOUT the cape over the shoulders. Basim's outfit is so cool looking with the hood up and I WANT to keep the hood up without having my arms weirdly stuck to the body and being straight.

Today I Learned (Black Flag Edition)

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 01:42 AM PDT

Today I learned that the smoke bomb tutorial at the start of Assassin's Creed IV isn't actually required immediately. If you're good at combat, there's no actual ending. The enemies don't get progressively harder or anything, it's just infinite waves.

My name is confused_screaming09 and I have been in a bar fight for two hours.

    I love this game.

(I also apologize for not knowing which flair this belongs under).

How would you compare the experience of clearing out forts in AC Origins, AC Odyssey, and AC Valhalla with one another?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 10:54 AM PDT

My favorite part of AC is clearing out forts. I enjoy sneaking around while killing everyone in the fort. I've spent a lot of time just clearing out forts in both AC Origins and AC Odyssey. My primary playstyle is that of a Hunter but I also do assassinations when the opportunity presents itself. I play on Nightmare difficulty on Origins and Hard difficulty (with light level scaling) on Odyssey. Here's my comparison between the two games in terms of fort clearing. What do you guys think of this? I'd love to hear about your experiences when clearing out forts. Also, how does clearing out forts in AC Valhalla compare to the other two? I haven't played the game yet and I'd love to know how the experience is in Valhalla.

    AC Origins

    1. Fort Design: Large and sprawling, very "corridor-like", lots of ways to move around, lots of cover in multiple areas, poor line of sight for sniping due to multiple obstructions
    2. Guard AI: Guards tend to move out and about frequently. They don't stand still for too long. Guards also tend to sway a lot and are extremely intelligent in terms of detection.
    3. Usual causes of detection: Missed headshots, poor route planning, guards catching you due to you not checking every room and corner, guard decides to randomly climb the tower you're in.
    4. My strategy: Move around and don't stick to one area. Forts are large in size and you can't exclusively rely on your bow. Predator Bows have low ammo to begin with and the regular arrows don't have much range. You'll have to use your bow and your hidden blade equally. Use your camera to peek inside a room before entering. Guards tend to hide in a lot of the rooms. Move at a very slow pace, check every corner before proceeding, and always crouch as much as possible. The map design is deceiving in the sense that an area might seem empty but it really isn't. Guards can be very well hidden and the AI is very intelligent when it comes to detection. Do not attempt to go for headshots on moving targets. It's not worth the risk. Headshots seem really difficult to hit in this game especially when the target is walking. Always go for "one-shot, one kill".

    AC Odyssey

    1. Fort Design: Dense and compact, very open in the middle, not too much cover, excellent line of sight for sniping
    2. Guard AI: Guards still move around frequently but they tend to stand still for longer periods of time in their routes. Guards aren't intelligent at all in terms of detection.
    3. Usual causes of detection: Guard randomly decides to climb the tower you're staying in
    4. My strategy: Find a tower on the perimeter, stay there as long as possible, take out as many guards as you can from that spot, rinse and repeat. Don't try to move around too often. The forts are quite compact in nature and there isn't too much cover in the middle. You also need to be careful because guards might spot you from behind. Take advantage of the OP nature of the bow by raining death from above. If you have archery master level 2, you'll always have at least 1 segment of adrenaline if you're out of combat. Use this to your advantage and spam Predator Shot from the high ground. Only use assassinations when necessary due to the unpredictable RPG nature of the game. Set a trap on the brazier but only if you have a clear route to it. Don't try to force your way to the brazier. You can survive by just moving from tower to tower on the perimeter even if the brazier is lit. Never engage Captains or Polemarchs unless you've taken out all the guards in the fort. Save those guys for last.

Advice on how I should proceed (may contain spoilers)

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 11:44 AM PDT

Just started playing Valhalla, not here to nitpick or anything just have a question.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how I should continue. In the 2 previous games I was the type that would hit every marker on the way to my destination, sometimes veering away from the destination. So my question is, will I get burnt out playing Valhalla this way? Story wise, I pretty much just made it to the settlement.

Also a question about a side tale. SPOILER WARNING............ so while I was getting sidetracked, I stumbled upon this guy in a cave. I don't remember exactly, but his name was something like "loyal skull". Anyway, on default difficulty I found this fight challenging. Is this "tale" meant for a higher level or am I just bad at combat?

Apologies for long post, appreciate any replies.

Northern Traveler and Ezio's gear - AC Odyssey

I just started playing Odyssey. And I'm on the "Odysseus's palace" mission. I just randomly got a bunch of legendary Northern Traveler and Ezios gear. Is this normal? Is it dlc or something which I accidentally have?

I actually enjoy the combat in Valhalla

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 08:49 AM PDT

I feel like I'm in the minority (judging by most peoples' opinions I've seen here) when it comes to the combat in Valhalla. I see people talking about "enemies taking turns to attack" and "I mash buttons to win" alongside "enemies so far too little damage".

Maybe it's because I've not upgraded my gear past what materials I can find in the current area I'm exploring, or perhaps it's because I went down the raven tree first, but I find the combat to be quick, brutal, and satisfying. Normal enemies are still hitting me for at least a quarter of my health (power 106 in a power 55 area, highest difficulty settings across the board). when they surround me, I need to be ready to parry attacks from multiple enemies at once (they don't take turns) and keeping an eye out for projectiles to "return to sender" is the icing on the cake for me - not to mention the laughs I get out of battlefield bolt when I feel like doing a little trolling.

It's no sekiro or GoT, but I think it does a good job of keeping combat fluid and somewhat risky without the tedium that came with Odyssey's Nightmare mode. Sure, you could go 100% crit and rock every enemy, but the path leading up to that point was long, unsatisfying, and really not any more difficult for all the extra health and damage enemies had.

I'd like to hear some other opinions here, but I personally believe this game's combat is extremely satisfying.

What is the story in Picheringa in Valhalla?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 05:12 PM PDT

I'm done with the Eurvicscire story arc and still have no clue what's up with Picheringa. There are dead people all over in that settlement. Two dead women in a cave behind the waterfall with bottles (maybe posioned themselves?), a dead woman with snakes in the nordic temple next to the chapel and in another house a dead woman with two dead children and in the basement another dead person next to a huge pot and the basement is filled with posionous air. Googling it didn't help. Did anyone figure it out?

AC3 Jäger bomb - just can’t do it!

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 01:35 PM PDT

I keep trying to do the suggested sequence 5.2 to get this but I'm getting nowhere.

For a start on the remaster you start with 2 notoriety so have to drop down to the street and get involved in a fight to get to level 3. So when the jägers come, everyone else is after you too.

I just can't kill enough with basic Connor. Are there any other scenarios in the open game or a later memory I can try? I really need my guns and smoke bombs to break the back of this one. It's the only trophy left from the main game 🙀

An idea for future assassin's Creed games

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 11:42 AM PDT

Remember back in ac 2 when we where filling on the seals at villa auditore? Well we have slowly been getting these characters like Amunet and Darius. But we could still get. Qulan gal, Wei yu, Iltani and Leonius. They all did something really important to the brotherhood, it would save Ubisoft the time of making up new characters and a plot and it would actually have something to do with assassin's.

How can Origins be so good and Valhalla so average ?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 10:17 AM PDT

I'm replaying Origins since I grab it on pc for a good price. I played only 10 minutes but it's insane how many things are better than Valhalla : horses animations (or camel), killing animations, Bayek's movement are super smooth, the blood everywhere when you fight, the music are good and well placed, and the game is very beautiful, the menus very fluid. Bayek is also a very well written character.

On the other hand, Valhalla, which I really enjoyed (I played the full main game + the first dlc), seems to have lost a lot of details : there is less blood on the ground (I even think there is none but not sure), Eivor's movements feels heavy, the killing animations looks less worked, the music is also good but not well placed (in a great battle you have just a little music in the background with some guys screaming and it doesn't feel epic at all,) also the big battle when you take down a fort are very mediocre, there is like 5 soldiers at a time it's almost ridiculous. The game is also very greedy in performance despite not being especially more beautiful, and finally the menus are insanely laggy.

I liked the new things they bring with Valhalla but why throwing so great details ... We will never know...

I feel like they took off all the details that makes origins to make Valhalla simply an average game.
