An update on Assassin's Creed by leaker J0nathan

    Posted: 05 May 2021 09:35 AM PDT

Reliable french Assassins Creed leaker j0nathan posted a new video in which he shared infos on the next AC :

    • As he has been saying for some months now, there was a project including Richard the Lionheart in development at Ubisoft, probably Ubisoft Sofia (not clearly said, but implied).
    • It's unclear if the Richard project is on stand-by or abandoned. The development was just starting when Ubisoft moved the development team of Project Richard to Project "Meteor", which would be a third DLC for Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
    • "The Siege Of Paris" would arrive in September 2021, where "Meteor" would not arrive until at least January 2022.
    • "Meteor" was put into development because of two major factors :
      • The very positive reception of Valhalla, and Ubisoft would still like to play on the Viking hype.
      • COVID has affected Ubisoft a lot (Far Cry 6, Rainbow Six...) and developing a third DLC seems easier than developing a whole game.
    • As expected, no new AC Game in 2021. The next one could be released at least by the end of 2022 (but this date seems very unrealistic too).
    • The Richard project would have been very different to Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla. It would have been an Uncharted-like, a semi-linear game. For each "game level", a new semi-open world.
    • The Richard Project also included a part during the Third Crusade (1189-1192). The game would then have followed Richard's journey back to the UK. The character played by the player would not have been Richard, but his "bodyguard".
    • The Richard project would also have focused on two other scenarios : a woman and a man. Their two adventures would have come together at some point in the game.

Other recent leaks by the same leaker :

    • J0nathan leaked the cosmetics pack "Isu's Knight".
    • He found the name "Muspelheim" in game's files, along with the mention "DLC" (he tweeted it).
      • According to Wikipedia, "In Norse mythology, Muspelheim is a realm of fire".
      • At the beginning of the development of Valhalla, some concepts-arts of this realm were made, but for unknown reasons, it has been abandonned.
      • It's either for one of the two DLC already announced, or for the third DLC "Meteor", or it's just a remnant of a scrapped area for the main game.
    • In another video, he posted the maps of Ireland DLC and Paris DLC :

Sorry for the very long post, but he said a lot of infos... Also, I'm french so please be indulgent with my bad english =)

[Spoilers] Does assassins creed Valhalla follow the 10 rules set out by Patrice Desilets and his team?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 10:37 AM PDT

    Hi all

With the Valhalla's first DLC soon to be released i've decided to see if Valhalla follows some of the rules which were set out by Patrice Desilets and his team nearly 15 years ago . There are 10 rules stating the do's and don't when making an assassins creed game and we are going to see if Valhalla follows these rules. Of course if you haven't played Valhalla yet I recommend you don't read on as there will be some spoilers for the game. BTW I will be referring to the hidden ones as assassins and the order of ancients as the templars. For some of these I am clueless as well.

1.Assassin's Creed will always tell the story of the secret war between Assassins and Templars.

Well yes but actually no. In the game we play as a Viking who comes in to contact with two assassins, Hytham and Basim Ibn Ishaq. Eivor Varrinsdottir is told of this secret war between the two groups by these two assassins and is asked to lend a hand in stopping their control in England. Eivor does this and wipes out pretty much every high ranking Templar in England. The problem that comes in to this is when the game forces you to do arcs that contain neither assassins or templars when the older games the war between the two remained constant but this could all be due to the fact the protagonist is not actually an assassin.

2.Being an assassin doesn't make the main character a ruthless killer. He kills, but he has principles and never murders innocents. He avoids collateral damage as much as possible

Again it stays loyal to some of this statement but not all. First off Eivor is not actually an assassin but more a less can function like one but despite being a viking. He doesn't seem to kill innocents , as mentioned he is a viking but his clan seems to be an exception when it comes to this. Eivor definitely does not seem to care how much damage he causes as long as he gets what hes looking for. He seems to be fine with burning down 800 villages and churches and raiding forts.

    3. The war between Assassins and Templars is the foundation of our Franchise story in the past and present.

For the present day there isn't really a war between the assassins and abstergo. It just seems to be more focused on the Isu and the pieces of Eden which is totally fine, plus stopping the great catastrophe. For the past yes it is the foundation for most of it but the story can get lost sometimes.

    4. The Assassin should always be agile, socially skilled, unbeatable with a blade, and a stylish bad-ass.

.Once again our protagonist is not an assassin (because who wants to be an assassin in an assassins creed game pfft) but he takes on the role of one. Eivor is all of those things I guess (i'm not sure tbh).

    5. Pivotal moments in Human History are the basis of our Franchise. Asssassin's Creed will always take a revisionist approach on real events. We'll use historical gaps to create our story.

Well this one is not hard. Medieval England at a time the Vikings were invading and the kingdoms were split.

    6. History should always be portrayed as relevant to our core audience, with facts that tie in to present day common knowledge and edgy modern Art Direction

The game has a lot of historical elements in it I guess. (someone help).

    7. Assassin's Creed is based on Technology – Nothing is Magical, Everything has a plausible technological explanation.

Well the game includes 2 mythical cities, Asgard and Jotunheim. We fight a mythical wolf twice. We beat some massive Jotun in a boss fight. Although these are just visions on how Eivor interprets the Isu world. This one is up for debate.

Edit: Just remembered you can get Odins spear and Thors hammer adding to the magical stuff or whatever. Dont think this ones up for debate anymore.

    8. Assassin's Creed is about digging in a character's past through their DNA in order to understand what really happened in key historical moments.

Its no longer about the present day protagonist's DNA but we are still searching through a characters DNA if the a suitable sample is found. Layla Hassan develops an animus that can use any DNA sample to look through the memories of anybody although it can mess up (apparently).

    9. Since the player relives the deeds of his kin through his DNA, the I.P. cannot be set in the future. DNA of unborn people does not exist.

Easiest one to do. This entire franchise revolves around revisiting past memories and this game does it as we go into the memories of a viking in the 8th century.

    10. Assassin's Creed can bend Historical accuracy but cannot create an Uchronia.

I don't think they've created a Uchronia but they have definitely changed some historical things which is fine.

Overall this game does parts of all these things. Not completely but still good enough for me. This game is still good as an assassins creed game and I still like the game and hopefully the upcoming DLC's won't disappoint. Feel free to add anything in the comments as well. Thanks for reading.

Do we know if the base game is getting a patch on May 13 along with Wrath of the Druids, or not?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 03:51 PM PDT

I've been waiting to jump into Valhalla until a few months of patches ironed out the major issues, and am now wanting to hop in. But I see that Wrath of the Druids is coming out next Thursday. Has there been any word/are we expecting the base game to also receive an update that day, or are they just dropping the expansion? Because if they're going to be further patching the base game I'd rather hold off so I can have that update from the start.

In Assassin's Creed I, why did Al Mualim rely on Altair instead of excommunicating him?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 11:20 AM PDT

I really like ACI's story, for the record, but one thing that didn't make complete sense to me was Al Mualim's decision to make Altair a central piece of it.

Let me explain- there is no reason why Altair shouldn't have been excommunicated from the Brotherhood: he broke all three tenants, got his brothers killed, tried to lie about everything, and while he was successful in repelling the attack, the attack only happened because of him. Keeping him made no sense because it set an example for the rest of the Brotherhood that you could get away with breaking the very foundation of it.

But here's the part that really didn't make sense- why would Al Mualim entrust ALL the assassinations to one person: his one student who is shown to question things. Did he not think that Altair would put everything together? Wouldn't it have made more sense to have multiple assassins sent out to kill each target to disperse the potential spread of information?

Sad Theory: Edward only joined the Assassins in order to give purpose to a now meaningless and wasted life ( very small spoilers from Valhalla's ending ).

    Posted: 05 May 2021 03:09 PM PDT

After playing Valhalla recently, i couldn't help but notice some similarities to Black Flag. Both protagonists don't care much about Assassins/Hidden Ones and their war with the Templars/Ancients and usually sides with whoever is more convenient for their objectives ( It just happened to be the Assassins on both occasions ). Eivor wants to protect her people no matter what and Edward wants to get rich in order to better provide for his wife.

After seeing some people saying that it was quite disappointing for them that Eivor didn't join the Hidden Ones at the end, this made me look back to Black Flag and come to a sad possibility: That Edward had no more meaning or purpose in his life and only joined the Assassins in order to give what was left of it some meaning.

Even after seeing the danger that the Templars posed to the free world, he was still thinking of a way to use the Observatory to get rich, only dropping this idea when he actually saw what the Observatory was capable of. Then, after all is said and done, with most of his friends and loved ones being dead, he finds out that his wife, the woman he took to the seas for, died 2 years ago and now he has a daughter that grew up without him. We can even see how she kinda resents him in the ending scene and in the Renegade book.

From Edward's perspective, his entire life was wasted for nothing. He had money now, but he lost the woman he loved and had a daughter that was born and lived to see her mother die without her father by their side, thus she wasn't very fond of him. At least, by effectively joining the Assassins in their war, he could give some meaning to this journey that made him lose everything.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla dual wield weapon combinations and single heavy weapon?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 03:20 PM PDT

This is a bit confusing for me, if i dual wield 2x daggers or 2x spears, both of those weapons hit even when i do light attacks which if obviously great, but when i dual wield 2x hammers or 2x axes or anything else both weapons only hit on the 3rd combo attack which is weird for me to why that is, is there any dual wield combination besides 2x daggers and 2x spears that both can hit like those weapons? I have tried 2 axes, 2 hammers, 2 greatswords, 2 dane axes, none hit simultaneously except on the 3rd hit in the chain of attacks. Can anyone explain as to why this is and what is better to use?

My 2nd question is: does anyone use dane axe or greatsword in both arms (without side weapon), and if yes why ? Seems like even 1 handed hammers or axes do almost the same dmg and are faster . I would appreciate if anyone can explain the dual wield or single wielding benefits a bit better. Thanks

I've never played Assassin's Creed but I wanna give it a shot. Is AC Valhalla the right type of game for me?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 04:02 AM PDT

I enjoy playing stealth games and open-world games. I have lots of experience in playing open-world games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, and Just Cause 4. I also have lots of experience in playing Hitman. I was just wondering, could AC Valhalla be my type of game? I enjoy an open environment while using a stealth only approach to kill enemies. What I don't like are games where you can't one-hit kill opponents. If I was to play AC Valhalla, I'd play the game like Agent 47 and go in with a "one shot, one kill" strategy. I don't want to be involved in major boss battles where the enemy won't die in one hit. I'm going to play at an extremely slow pace and make sure I rely entirely on stealth to eliminate enemies one by one. Is AC Valhalla the right game for me? I want to treat this as an open-world Hitman game where stealth is the only option. I'm just not sure if the game will allow me to play like this or if it'll force me to change my playstyle.

Valhalla - Quicksave does not work on PS5, autosave happens very irregularly

    Posted: 05 May 2021 04:31 AM PDT

Second time I lose 40 minutes of progress. Is there something wrong, or does the game actually never save after doing world events, finding treasure, and such? I mean the marked big "blob" objectives. It does not seem to save.

I have tried using the quicksave via the menu and get the confirm window, and confirm to save. But the game does not actually save. There is no save to load.

Does quicksave not work at all on PS5?

I have also had corrupted save warning (but it isnt) and save mismatch between cloud and local every time I have launched the game from scratch. What is happening here? The origin of my save is on PC, if that matters.

Just started playing AC IV Black Flag and need some help

    Posted: 05 May 2021 03:40 AM PDT

I just started playing AC IV and I was just playing as you do when suddenly I was in an office from some coorporation. I kinda knew this was a thing but I don't know what this actually is about. My question is whether I need to know about whatever that is (because it was explained in previous games) in order to understand Black Flag or if it is explained in Black Flag why I was suddenly in an office.

Settlement Level 6 and new expansion (Valhalla)

    Posted: 05 May 2021 03:47 PM PDT

Hey guys, trying to upgrade my settlement to level 6 and I have literally everything upgraded except for a new spot for the Expansion coming out in a couple weeks. Does anyone know if not having this built is prohibiting me from reaching level 6 or am I just completely missing something obvious to get me the final tiny bit?

Is AC Rogue legendary ship battle harder than Black Flag?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 09:43 AM PDT

I have played both games back when it was released on my console. So I bought both games and decided to play on my PC this time - better graphics, frame rates, etc.

After completing AC4 the second time. I came to the conclusion that legendary ship battle was not as difficult as I thought it was.

So is it still the same case for Rogue too? Or the legendary ship battle really hard on Rogue?

Valhalla Question: Can you harpoon impale someone and then assassinate them?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 01:56 AM PDT

I guess I'm just wondering if the harpoon has any stealth utility. It seems like maybe you could pull enemies into a more secluded or hidden spot and then assassinate them, but if they are alerted immediately perhaps not.

    AC3 Remastered Citizen Mission Items

    Posted: 05 May 2021 03:56 AM PDT

Hi, right now I play Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered. I finished all missions and bought all the stuff possible. The problem now is that in shops, there is a section called Citizen Mission Items where two items are available (a hammer head and hammer handle), but they are locked and I cannot buy them. What do I have to do to get these? Sorry if I named something wrong, I play the german version and don't really know how the items are named in the english version.

I made a step by step guide to improving image quality in Assassin's Creed using G-Shade.

    Posted: 05 May 2021 07:30 AM PDT

    Hello everyone!

We all know and love/hate ReShade for what it brings to games, especially older ones, but lately I've discovered a more sophisticated version of it, named G-Shade. It was initially intended for Final Fantasy, but it works for anything.

What does it add you might ask?

First of all, Bump Mapping (pops each texture out individually), which, alone, increases the quality of the image by tenfold.

Second of all, PPXAO, which adds minimal Ray Tracing to the game without impact on FPS and is highly customizable, but requires a lot of patience.

And finally, all of the standard Shaders from ReShade have been meticulously tinkered with in order to provide better optimization and a higher quality effect.

Here are some examples from Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, with a preset made by me.

    Inside: https://imgur.com/a/xJnIqQY

    Outside: https://imgur.com/a/Qx1sc8o

    Preset: https://imgur.com/a/bbKCCbV

I used Syndicate as an example because it was the only one I had installed, but the following tutorial applies to any game:

    1. Download G-Shade.
    2. Select the proper DirectX setting (most of them up until Unity use DirectX9, but you can look up the correct version on PCGamingWiki).
    3. Select the proper Bits setting (most of them are 64-bits, correct me if I'm wrong).
    4. Press SHIFT + F2 in-game to open the panel.
    5. Have fun tinkering! Most of them don't require anything to change, but more advanced Shaders such as PPXAO take a lot of time and dedication to properly set up, they are worth it however, for the Ray Tracing alone.

The preset I made is extremely basic, so you can use it on any other game if you don't want to dive into more complicated Shaders. The quality of the image may be downgraded because of Imgur.

I'm sure others have differing opinions on the matter but I'd like what yours are concerning gender roles in the current games and future installments

    Posted: 04 May 2021 11:47 PM PDT

I understand they implemented optional genders to allow for player relatability, but does that even matter in a game where story is supposed to take priority? If nothing else, I feel they should either commit to a single gender, male or female for the sake of plot, or have the next game repeat what Syndicate did with 2 separate rookie characters, but let us permanently choose one of them and have the other be our partner, aiding us on each main mission.

Thinking about it, it could work even better than Syndicate. There could be a single player "coop" dynamic where you could instruct your partner based on your chosen approach and basic commands. Essentially an evolution of the assassin recruit system from older games
