Someone in the comments mentioned viewing it like Skyrim in ancient Greece. So I did. Dammit, I am loving this game. It is seriously sweet. I think I was just in a bad mood before, and needed an attitude/ perspective adjustment on it. Cheers, friends. Happy gamin!

Ubisoft Earnings Report Key Takeaways FY2020-2021 (May 11, 2021)

    Posted: 11 May 2021 11:20 AM PDT

Ubisoft held an earnings call today for their Fiscal Year (FY) 2020-2021 which ended March 31st, 2021. Here are the key takeaways relevant for AC fans.

    • Focused on Diversification of its portfolio
    • Record levels of engagement, growth, and revenue
    • Yearly revenue over 2 billion euros
    • AC had record performance with Valhalla having a 50% revenue increase from previous record in 2013
      • As a note, revenue is money earned which includes not just game sales, but MTX and season pass. Valhalla has outpaced Odyssey and AC4 for earnings, though Odyssey continues to grow from MTX sales and has made more money total. The number of units sold is unknown but appears to be lower than or similar to Origins based on other reports. (likely meaning around the 9-10 million Unit range).
    • Seasonal content will continue throughout the year, and Discovery Tour will return
    • Immortals continuing to grow with player acquisition and retention, with Ubi considering it as a new Franchise moving forward
    • Skull and Bones and Avatar pushed to FY2022-2023
    • Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine slated for the first half of FY2021-2022
      • This likely means before September, leaving slots open for the Holiday season and early 2022
    • Multiple delays have occurred internally due to Covid, but Ubisoft is pleased with progress on their titles.
    • 3 - 4 AAA titles are currently expected by Ubisoft in the FY2021-2022
    • 4 AAA titles are coming in FY2022-2023 including Avatar (releasing with the movie), Skull and Bones, and Beyond Good and Evil 2

As a note, Ubisoft did not say that a "new AC will not be coming" like they explicitly said in 2016 and 2019. Furthermore, they are expecting further brand growth and monetization, whether that's due to Valhalla's post-launch, or a new game is unclear.

Interesting to say the least. I've never been a fan of how AC has handled optional objectives in the past so I honestly don't know what to think of this.

Does the Ezio collection add anything extra?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 09:59 PM PDT

Right now I can buy each game in the Microsoft store for $5.00 a piece (except Brotherhood but I can buy that from EB games at $10.00) adding up to $20.00. The Ezio trilogy is $24.00. Does it add anything or should I just go for the cheaper option?

P.S: Yes, I am stingy with my money.

So, are the lairs Hidden Ones a meta commentary on the state of the series? (SPOILERS for Valhalla)

    Posted: 11 May 2021 02:56 PM PDT

While replaying Valhalla, something caught my attention. The lairs of the Hidden Ones, which are pretty much the one part of the game with Assassin's lore, might be an allegory from the dev/writing team's part about the current state of the series, the reasons of its change and what it means to fans.

Firstly, there's the presentation of the lairs and their contents themselves. They are ruined and decayed, abandoned and hidden. Just like the "assassin spirit" of the new games. They mostly contain four objects of interest: an ancient assassination contract, a page from the Magas Codex, orders from Magister Vitus to evacuate the lair, and also a part of the armor of the hidden ones. It's interesting that given its contents, by visiting all lairs Eivor gains understanding about the meaning of the creed, the reasons for the past defeat of the brotherhood and the Assassins robes, which obtention in older games meant to mark the part where the protagonist was introduced into the assassin plot (EDIT: It's being called into my attention that Eivor can't read the letters themselves. That would make them a full on 4th walk break meant for the player, which peaks at the end with Reda and the letter from Bayek). The lairs mostly feature light obligatory parkour. In one of the lairs, you can find a letter which breaks the 4th wall to Eivor, calling them a "intruder". It also tells them to find a key on top of a shelf by climbing, the old signature mechanic of the series, with the phrase "to find what you're looking for, use the old tools that have failed us". Could it be talking directly to "new players" who are just looking for loot and reminding them of the story of the series?

Which brings me to the second point, the assassination letters, which tell the story about the fall of the local rite. To make matters short, the whole saga ends with Magister Vitus reflecting about the causes of the Roman retreat which ultimately ended up in the defeat of the brotherhood, saying that they had "destroyed so much pillars the whole structure collapsed". Could this be an allegory for how the traditional Assassin's Creed was ultimately passed out due to how some games like BF and Odyssey blended the core pillars so much that it just made Ubisoft destroy the old foundations, effectively ending up with the "retreat" of the assassins from their own series?

And then there's the Magas (so close) Codex. This is, I think, a direct message to the fans. It tells the story of a discussion between Amunet and a well-intentioned, faithful, yet pushing member of the hidden ones. He questions Aya about what the creed really means, and the fact that it's too open and unenforceable to really mean anything. Amunet responds him by telling him the Creed is not a external force, but one contained inwards, and that it's only by your own will that you can enforce it. The message of this is pretty open, but amongst various things, it reminded me of how lots of old mechanics are still present, if underutilized, in the new games (specially Valhalla) and the fact that if you really try hard enough, you can still approach the games similarly at how you did in the past. Aya also tells the apprentice that even if sometimes things feel harsh and hostile, a hidden one is always supported by their partners from the shadows, which might be interpreted about how devs that love the series are still there trying to do the most they can to keep the series alive, something that also resonates with how Valhalla is soaked in fanservice both in gameplay mechanics (again, in a underutilized way) and in story (the modern day of the game is Darby trying to give us closure as much as he and his team can and more while giving Ubisoft the Viking game it wants).

The story ends with Aya dissolving the meeting and saying it's gonna be the last, and is ought to be forgotten, however a young rebel apprentice wrote the whole thing down to pass the knowledge to a new generation, perhaps referring to younger devs being inspired to keep the spirit of the series alive. Back in Britannia, the story ends in a more bitter way, with Vitus saying that he dares not to hold "hope" for the return of the Hidden Ones to Britain, yet Hytham, and to a lesser extent Eivor (they gained the codex and the robes!) are echoes of said hope.

Now, this might be just conjecture, or at most just an unintentional coincidence. But keep in mind that Black Flag a game from the same studio also featured meta commentary about the developing process in the form of files and text.

So that's it. True or not, Valhalla is game that feels like it really tried to throw the fans a few bones, well knowing the current development and sales environment of the series pretty much dictate what the games can be, being now aimed at a much larger public.

What do you think? Thanks for reading!

PS: If you wanna hear a really wacky theory, I personally believe the Valhalla simulation is an allegory to videogames themselves, and its message is to just go outside, be with your loved ones and find "everything else" in your life.

The game which brought back my love for gaming - Assasins Creed Black Flag

    Posted: 11 May 2021 11:43 AM PDT

I had absolutely lost all interest in engaged gaming. Maybe a little fifa here and there, rocket league too sometimes, a race in split second. I even tried to get back into gaming by replaying borderlands 2, gta V, red dead redemption but to no avail. The last game i got lost in was Skyrim.

However, this game was so surprising. The mechanics, the combat was so satisfying and brought back the Assasins creed 2 nostalgia. Then came the pirateering and the sailing mechanics. It just blew my mind. It was a perfect balance to doing Assasins cred stuff of well climbng buildings and sea combat. If you get bored of the city, go to the sea. If you get bored of the sea, go do the city stuff.

Assassins creed 3 remastered audio on PS4

    Posted: 11 May 2021 08:21 PM PDT

Is it just me or is the sound mixing in the remaster is incredibly poor? I can barely hear the background music or ambience, not in cutscenes or open world. The characters talking also bit muffled.

can I still play odyssey dlc buying the game second time?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 10:02 PM PDT

I've played odyssey before back at 2019 on the physical copy of the game and already sold it to my friend. While playing odyssey, I purchased the dlc on my playstation store and already finished it.(Basically I'd 100% odyssey.) And now recently I wanted to play odyssey back since I love that game, planning on buying it back in digital copy since its on sale now. So do I still get to play the dlc even if I buy the standard one?

Was Assassin's Creed: Origins the game that revitalized the franchise?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 11:13 PM PDT

This is the Viking Armor from AC Rogue, which Shay finds in the North Atlantic. You guys think we'll get to see this armor in the Ireland DLC?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 01:02 PM PDT

What's the overall takeaway regarding the brotherhood in Assassin's Creed: Rogue?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 10:33 PM PDT

And is Shay Kenway even a real Templar? I mean in the since that I don't remember him making too many plans for world domination, and instead was focused on stopping the Assassins from triggering earthquakes through Eden pieces. This leads me back to my original question of the brotherhood's motives throughout the game. Wouldn't they know or at least agree with Shay that the tectonic cube things need to be protected? Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this. I've been playing through all the games from the start. Currently on Origins. Anyway these are just some questions I've been having about one of my favorites in the series.

In January, I grabbed Origins on a whim for 15$. Got that platinum trophy and I am hooked.

Today, Ezio arrives! I played brotherhood but not 2 or revelations. Super excited to experience what some say is the Pinnacle of the series.

    Origins and Odyssey Missable DLC

    Posted: 11 May 2021 10:18 PM PDT

I'm wanting to buy the standard versions of this game (as they are like $15 right now), but I'm making sure there isn't any missable DLC first. I know you can buy the deluxe packs and season passes, but from what I read on the wiki there is all this extra like monster energy drinks, twitch primes and pizza rolls bonus content. Am I screwed out of game content just because I didn't have the game during those moments where these extra pieces of DLC got released?

Assassins Creed Unity. I want to start a new game and I have an external hard drive for my ps5 and have all my ps4 games downloaded onto said external hard drive(Unity included).

    Posted: 11 May 2021 01:48 PM PDT

Would I be able to remove my external hard drive from the console and start a new file on the console without losing any progress from my external hard drive saved file ? Would I have to download the game back onto the console memory to do so ?

How do you grind Valhalla main story?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 05:11 PM PDT

I got Valhalla for Christmas and in the past two months I haven't played it at all. The reason for that is because I just don't know what to do there is no set main story like in yet previous games. I am a level 90 something. Any suggestions on what to do to get through the main story?
