Which AC game has the most fun world to explore and why?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 06:04 PM PST

I personally like Black Flag's world the most. I guess I just love the tropical vistas and ocean towns and just the general pirate setting and theme. It's just a really pretty game to look at and explore.

I also love Odyssey's world too but some parts, especially the inland areas, are kind of generic looking, which there's a lot of. I almost felt as if the game world was too big. I couldn't bring myself to 100% it.

Anyways, what's your favorite AC game world and why?

Origins has the best story imo. (out of the last 3 we had: Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla)

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 02:29 AM PST

i don't know what is it about Origins.. Maybe it's the world of Egypt but also Bayek feels like very well developed character as u play compare to "Alexios/Kassandra" and "Eivor". There is something about Bayek and his story and the cutscense and voice acting sometimes feels like it was added wayy more effort on it compare to others. i don't know but there is soo much joy and fun i have when i play Origins.. I also love the hidden blade and animations and combat wayy more than Odyssey and Valhalla i wanna see what u guys think..

    Thoughts?

I just finished Odyssey, after finishing Valhalla...

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 07:53 AM PST

    Hey guys,

Valhalla was a first for me in the Assassins Creed world and boy did I have a blast. There were a lot of things which I found annoying (Stones, Anomalies) but I had a grand enough time that I earned the Platinum Trophy (PS5) and went on to purchase Odyssey.

    And wow, what a difference!

I heard so many people saying that the enemies felt 'spongey' in Odyssey, but after coming from Valhalla where I felt like I had no real challenge at all - I felt more engaged in combat, more eager to try different builds and generally, had a whole lot more fun.

The world in Odyssey and the stories within it felt more meaningful. In my opinion, I first found Male Eivor to be a more likeable protagonist than Alexios - but looking back at it now, I honestly feel like they just based Male Eivor off Travis Fimmel's Ragnar in the hit show Vikings; even the mannerisms are identical.

I could sit here and type each and every thing that I prefer about Odyssey, and sure - there are some things which I do prefer about Valhalla, but I am going to take a wild guess and assume that most of you already think the same.

Being a huge fan of Norse Mythology, I truely thought I would prefer Valhalla and whilst I am not saying it is a bad game by any stretch - it is not the magnificent game that I feel Odyssey is.

    TL;DR
    Odyssey > Valhalla

If they add enemy armor sets, locked behind challenges, to the game it would be a fun challenge and elicit more player engagement with little cost to Ubisoft. [LONG READ]

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 10:51 AM PST

I can't be the only one who loves how some of the enemies in this game look, right? In assassin's creed odyssey you could loot and wear enemy armor sets, you could look like virtually any enemy in the game (ex: you could cosplay an athenian archer, a cultist, a spartan polemarch etc.) This missing from ac valhalla. Now this specifically isn't exactly a big deal, but could be used to solve an issue we have now. There is very little armor sets, with most being in the helix store and both free post launch armor sets being reskins (good ones but reskins nonetheless).

By introducing armor sets based on the enemies we fight in the game it gives the players more options that satisfy the desire to have armor sets that aren't too out of place and flat out just having more armor sets at all. These would obviously reuse assets so it's a lot less effort on ubi's part. By locking them behind specific challenges (adjusted for each enemy) it will increase player engagement at less cost to ubi than making entirely new from-the-ground-up armor models. It's a win-win for the developers of the game and the community as a whole.

Give each set abilities based on the enemy they come from, examples below. The sets don't need to have special upgraded appearances, either. That would ruin the point after all, so that's even less work. The challenges would make it a satisfying grind without having to make entire quests or other high effort stuff as well, and would capture players for longer.

    Examples:

Banneret's set: increase the damage of a heavy attack immediately following a parry by X% (they are characterized by their parry stance and being badass motherfuckers) Helmet: eliminate X bannerets with headshots Cloak: assassinate X bannerets chest: eliminate X bannerets with a greatsword Bracers: kill X bannerets with finishers Legs: Kill X bannerets with any ability

Housecarl's set: gain X% more damage when using two one handed weapons of a different type (housecarls are characterized as being "ambidextrous masters of all weapons") Helmet: eliminate X housecarls with a bow Cloak: eliminate X housecarls with a dagger chest: eliminate X housecarls with a bearded axe Bracers: eliminate X housecarls with a spear Legs: eliminate X housecarls with a flail

Wolf Stormr's set: man's best friend wolf does X% more damage, reduce damage taken by wolves in the wild (you guys already know what this guy's deal is I imagine. Man with wolf) Helmet: eliminate X wolves Cloak: assassinate X wolf Stormr Chest:eliminate X enemies with man's best friend ability Bracers: eliminate X wolf Stormr with a dagger (they use one handed swords, closest we're gonna get for now) Legs: eliminate X wolf Stormr with finishers

Ceorl armor set: gain X% more attack/defense when close to your allies (these enemies are characterized as being easy individually but a hassle in a group) Helmet: X headshots Cloak: assassinate X ceorls Chest: eliminate X ceorls with finishers Bracers: eliminate X ceorls with a bearded axe Legs: eliminate X ceorls with any ability

As an RPG, AC Valhalla has a bit of a loot and gear problem

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 09:02 AM PST

I know this topic has been beaten to death many times, but the River Raids just help enforce the issue. The lack of gear to acquire (especially any gear that looks normal for a Viking) really hurts the experience. I thoroughly enjoy the gameplay loops of the raiding and the combat this time around, but the lack of common looking Viking and Anglo Saxon clothing options is really sad.

It doesn't need to be like odyssey where I get the same armor piece every time I kill or loot something, but I was hoping with something like the river raiding, we would get more than just one reskinned bulky armor. I hope with the expansions and new game plus, we get armor littered throughout giving us a reason to dive back in.

How ubisoft could make the greatest AC title to date

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:47 PM PST

With the next AC game coming to the new generation of consoles, it's common for us fans to theorize about the setting and possible features that the next game might have to offer, and many of us like to talk about the things we want to see making a come back and new stuff to be implemented, and although it's usually difficult to get an approval from both the new and old fans of the franchise, I think I might have an idea of how to make it work.

One thing almost every old fan (or anyone who has played through all the games) noticed along the journey of this franchise is that Ubisoft usually comes up with great ideas in a title and for some reason decides to throw it all out of the window in the next game. My idea is: why can't we just utilize the aspects that made each game great in it's own way and thus create the best AC title so far? Let's give this idea a try and list the best aspects from each game (obviously it's mostly my opinion, so feel free to share what you believe were the best parts for you personally).

    Assassin's Creed:

    • A grey narrative focused on the ideological conflict between Assassins and Templars, showing both sides of the story and giving meaning to the antagonists' motives.
    • A grounded historical fiction. No flaming swords or anachronistic weapons and armors that don't belong in the time period (looking at you, Valhalla).
    • The parkour system from 1 to Revelations. It was the most fluid and responsive system we got so far, so we should have something similar, with side ejects, realistic non-floaty jumps and player agency.
    • Social stealth that is responsive (Valhalla tried making a comeback to it, but having to hold a button to blend is terrible).
    • Cities handcrafted for parkour (the latest games failed on this aspect).

AC II, AC Brotherhood and AC Revelations:

    • The ability to recruit factions to help you (courtesans, thieves, mercenaries and your own Assassins/Hidden Ones recruits).
    • Weapon Wheel. It was the best and fastest way to switch items and it also makes room for a bigger variety of gear to utilize.
    • Item variety. Revelations had a ton of different bombs the player could create, plus the darts and throwing knives from the previous games. They should explore that (not necessarily the crafting part, but having those items at your disposal) an add even more stuff such as different types of arrows.
    • Immersive ambience music playing almost all the time.
    • A progression system that isn't based on skill points, but actual gear and training the character received during their journey.
    • Disarming/picking up weapons from enemies and some being used as throwing weapons (axes and spears).
    • Being able to throw enemies at scaffoldings and other breakable objects during combat.
    • Tombs and Templar hideouts.

AC III, AC IV Black Flag and AC Rogue:

    • Tree parkour
    • Rope Dart
    • Hunting
    • Stalking zones
    • Recruits with distinct abilities to aid you (AC III)
    • Unique blend kills based on what kind of blending spot you were (AC III).
    • Naval Combat in case it fits the historical period.

    Assassin's Creed Unity:

    • Parkour up and down mechanics
    • Vaulting mechanics
    • Customization variety (gear parts for each part of the body and many color patterns to choose from).
    • Interiors in almost every building
    • The safety roll animation is probably my favorite in the franchise.
    • Cover and crouching system.
    • Combat that makes you feel the weight of the weapons and that is challenging (it's my personal favorite, but to me a perfect AC would blend Unity's combat with GoT's). Being overwhelmed and needing to run away and use your parkour skills actually plays a part in this game instead of being able to fight hundreds of guards with almost no challenge at all.
    • Black box assassination missions.
    • Story with a darker and more serious tone (I'm looking at you Syndicate).

    Assassin's Creed Syndicate:

    • Replayable sidequests (in the recent trilogy, replayable anything would be welcomed, to be honest)
    • Throwing darts on fire sources makes the substance turn into a cloud, creating a variety of approaches.
    • Being able to use the environment at your disposal to take down enemies.

    Assassin's Creed Origins:

    • Bow type variety, but instead of being a bow with a visor on it, the predator bow should just be a heavy long bow, being able to reach longer distances, without looking silly.
    • Shields.
    • Pet Bird. It honestly would be amazing if they used the eagle as a tool to show you the path to your current objective, like GoT does with the wind.
    • Fighting Arena.
    • Confessions that have this unique aesthetic, which they kept in Valhalla

    Assassin's Creed Odyssey:

    • Transmog
    • Being able to wear helmets and have armor sets that are the same as the ones guards wear (it would be awesome if by wearing the full set, enemies of that type wouldn't detect you unless you acted suspicious).
    • The cultist/order system.
    • Choices, but they should only be based on things such as how to approach a mission or how to take down a target (like the black box missions), not something that would affect the main narrative.

    Assassin's Creed Valhalla:

    • Upgrading gear, so that you can keep the ones you enjoy throughout the whole journey (just please don't make the final upgrade look all over the place and fantasy-ish. If anything add Transmog to the previous versions).
    • Settlement. I just wish we could have more missions with each member and judge more of their conflicts. I found that really fun, but it only happened twice. Not sure if there are more.
    • Being able to put your hood up and down without needing to go to the menu
    • Puzzles in order to get items (just not that many!)
    • Having the character interact with the NPCs while blending
    • Confessions from all the targets in the cultist/order menu
    • Visceral combat

    Extra:

    • Make your allies walk at your pace.
    • Make the horses matter and create a bond with the player (like RDR2 and GoT).
    • Being able to assassinate enemies from mid-air, like in GoT (basically being able to jump, and while jumping, in case the enemy is in range for a kill, the animation switches to the kill animation once you press the button).
    • Making the hardest difficulty not about how little damage you do to the enemies, but how much damage they do to you.

In case there are any aspects I might have forgot to mention, let me know, and tell me about any more things that could be added and the aspects you agree or disagree with and why. :)

The River Raids maps/locations let the franchise down (SPOILER)

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 09:22 AM PST

OK, I'm making this post because the recent River Raids update is driving me a bit crazy. I love the AC franchise and I've played all the games. I understand that some players enjoy the game simply from a combat point of view, and the river raiding option is just a bit of fun for them. I get that. If that's you then fair enough, you will probably enjoy it. I wrote this from my own perespective of why I enjoy the AC games.

I play the games because I love how the creators can recreate real world locations into different eras of time. I loved the Italian renaissance era - I travelled around Italy in real life in 2018 and Venice/Rome and Florence felt like how I'd remembered them in the game. I remember knowing how to walk around Rome and see the main sights without needing a map, because I knew where I was (roughly) from playing the game. I knew that if I walk over the Ponte Sant'angelo then turn left, walk straight on, I arrive in the Vatican. I also went to Paris in January 2020 before Covid, and the week before I went, I replayed Unity and explored the city, and when I went in real life, I knew where Notre Dame, The Louvre etc were. The attention to detail was unbelievable and accurate. I also admire how they recreated London using Victorian photos and old maps to make it look so realistic, and how ancient Egyptian cities are recreated using archeological evidence, even though they're long gone in real life. Its so cool.

While Anglo Saxon Britain isn't as easy, I appreciated how they portrayed York (Jorvik) as I know it very well in real life like the back of my hand, and I like how they've tried to use old maps to guess how it would have looked. I think they did that with other places too like Lunden and Lincoln...maybe some others not so much because Northern England is terrible.

OK, so River Raids…I get that these are mini maps and everything is super scaled down, I can live with that. But the places in these maps are terrible, and I feel bad for saying this, but also very lazy. I'm not bashing Ubisoft unfairly, I'm simply saying that in comparison to their previous work, this is well below what they are capable of doing.

This is a game that left many well known places off the main map of England, and I put that down to them not having time or space to get everywhere in. I forgave them for this. But then you visit the River Exe map, the River Severn map and the River Dee map and you will find fictional generic places. 'Small Camp', 'Large Camp', 'Eastern Fortress', 'Logging farm', 'Southern Fortress' etc - these are random copied and pasted locations that they've created for the game, yet real life key historic locations don't fit on the map? At least make some effort and use real place names.

Then each map does have a couple of places that use real names. Escanceaster (now called Exeter) was a real Roman city that was probably the size of places like Lincoln and Jorvik. It was walled and fortified, yet in the game they've just created the place as a monastery.

There is also Deva Victrix, which is the old Roman name for Chester. I've been to Chester in real life, as recently as September 2020 so I know it quite well. Below is an historic interpretation of how Chester used to look. It was once a large Roman City, walled, and still to this day has a similar street layout that hasn't changed a lot from old maps. That main road through the middle is now the main shopping street etc. Yet below that image is what Ubisoft have created. There's nothing even remotely close to an effort to try and recreate something how it would have looked. This looks more like something out of Lord of the Rings than an Assassin's Creed, and its not difficult because they've done it with places in the main game - Lincoln, Worcester, London, Leicester, Norwich etc.Nobody is expecting everything to be exactly how it would have been (thats impossible), but at least try and make it realistic.

How Deva Victrix used to look...and should look in AC

What Ubisoft have created - basically a fortress in the mountains with nobody living there other than soldiers.

Again, to the casual player that just wants to run around a have combat and couldn't care about whether its a real place of fiction, then you probably won't mind this catastrophe. But for me, this is well below the standard some Assassin's Creed fans would expect. Its the worst historical interpretation of locations in the entire franchise. My only guess is that the historians like Darby did not have much input into this. Normally Darby is enthusiastically talking up places he's worked on via his Twitter but he hasn't posted much about it.

And yes, I am aware that the River Raids maps are small and are not to scale of the other Kingdoms in the arcs, it doesn't mean they cant put proper places in, and give it more effort, even if they are scaled down.

Finally, here's a pic I took in Chester last year showing the Eastgate and its clock (clock is not Anglo Saxon) , on a section of the original city walls. You can still walk ontop of the city walls and do a full lap of the city. I included it to give it a bit more appreciation than Ubisoft did.

About to start Unity for the first time and I’m so excited!

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 05:42 PM PST

The last "old school" AC game I played was Black Flag. I've played and loved the three newer games (platinums all three!) but lately have wanted to go back to the old style games.

I'm just about to wrap up the platinum trophy on AC 3 remastered, I just have the last 2 King Washington chapters to finish up. And next up, probably starting Saturday.... Unity!!

Finally a truly "next gen" old school AC game. The map of Paris looks awesome and huge! Murder mysteries sound so neat! The optional objectives sound way easier in this one which is a plus, some of them were a pain in AC3!

I'll probably need some help getting the cooperative trophies, maybe some of you will help me out when the time comes.

What are your thoughts on Unity? Also, I plan on going straight to Syndicate afterwards provided I don't get burned out. But so far, so good, going from Valhalla straight through 3 and chomping at the bit for Unity!

The inclusion of a "River Raid" boat ignores the historical significance of Viking ships

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 04:49 PM PST

The newest Valhall update adds a new "river raid ship", however the significance of a Viking long ship is that they can sail in both rivers and oceans, most boats could not do this

so the update adding a special boat just for rivers really makes no sense and theres no reason we shouldn't be able to use the standard boat (they are actually identical)

So I just finished ac Valhalla and I have one little pesky trophy left, jup that one. I need help or tips what to do. I have been at it for what feels like 4 hours trying to get the 3 kills while on fire. Should I just give up at this point? But if I do I feel so stupid for actively hunting down the other trophies. Please any suggestions is helpful.

[Spoilers] Question about anomalies. Includes spoilers to the ending.

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 11:26 PM PST

So I finished the story before doing all the events and now I am Basim in the animus playing as Eivor. So I found the last anomaly, the one in hamtunscire and played it as Basim but I was wondering if this last anomaly was playable before when I was Layla still, and if there was some dialog. I tried searching on you tube but I just see people doin it as Basim so I was wondering if it was locked up until that moment in the story or if I could have played it as Layla.

AC Valhalla's story is really tedious and repetitive, I expected more from Darby

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:41 AM PST

The core story with Eivor and Sigurd is pretty solid but its padded out with boring "alliance" quests..like at most 3 or so were memorabole. The rest were forgettable and had really one note characters, not to mention most of the time the same old taking over forts shit.

Overall it seems AC just can't have great stories anymore

I feel bad for the Protagonist VA's in Odyssey/Valhalla

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:31 PM PST

There's no debate that the voice actor for Bayek did an incredible job, but I'm confident that he was as great as he was because the character was his own. For Odyssey and Valhalla, I've seen mixed opinions regarding each voice actor of your chosen gender and it makes me wonder how much it effects the role when you've to share it with another person in a game of this type. While Abubakar could likely embrace a scene as his own and deliver an amazing performance, were the others forced to keep their performances and line deliveries as similar to one another as they could? Personally I enjoyed the VA's for both games (I played female in both) but I'd hate to see any of their talents judged based on a game that couldn't let them show them off.

Though having said that, Abubakar was so good that I believe there'd still be little to no competition even if this wasn't the case.

Playing the older games gives me a new appreciation for the series

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 08:57 PM PST

When the first AC game came out, I was in seventh grade and my buddy had gotten the game. Growing up together, we probably took turns playing one and two and then stopped entirely until Origins had come out.

I'm currently in the process of doing the series start to finish, and it's amazing how little you must care in middle school because even one and two, there's so much story line to pay attention to. As a kid, you're just like "ok I gotta go kill this guy and this guy and keep it going until I beat the boss". Now, at 27, I have a whole new appreciate for the actual series itself. I just played through AC2 again and it reminded me how cool of a character Ezio is and how the game really starts to come together (the feather challenge can eat my shorts though). It really makes me wonder what other games did I play as a kid that I missed so much on? The answer is probably most of them. I've played origins, odyssey and vahalla and still had to do research after because I wasn't sure what the hell was happening. After playing the first two games, I'm sitting here saying to myself "yeah that makes a decent amount more sense". Even though I don't know if I'll ever fully able to follow it just because I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

TLDR: Paid zero attention as a kid to the story line when the AC games came out and now fully appreciate them

Assassin's Creed Valhalla - River Raids Round Up (Buildings, Characters, Rewards)

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 10:18 AM PST

My idea for a future game (Probably won’t come to pass)

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 12:04 AM PST

I personally think an Assassins Creed game in a modern setting. A future setting would be too cliche, and devolve into unnecessarily complex stuff like laser wrist blades with no application for being laser. How cool would it be though? You have the parkour in a concrete jungle setting. Maybe have a motorcycle replace the horse. Introducing clipped weapons. Dart guns are now collapsible rifles. Obviously not make it a shooter and ruin it. Just make stuff like automatic weapons more like the previous games. You can pick it up, but you can't holster it or parkour with it, and it restrict you to what's left of the clip without the option to reload, until you maybe invest in some sort of "Adaptive Warfare" skill which lets you reload certain pick ups a set amount of times. Delve into how the modern government is penetrated by the Assassins and the Templars. Police states are run by Templars, and "Gestapo" heavy states are Assassin run. Link political parties to the factions. How most elections always boil down to the same two parties? Explain that as the two factions trying to get regional control. Political assassinations, attempted Coups, there's so much they could get into. Bottom line I think they could do it, and I think it'd be a kickass game. Just wanted my idea out there.

Before it's brought up, the Assassins Creed books have basically proved that even to this day the Assassins and Templars are still very much alive, kicking, and battling for dominance.

Thoughts on “canon” relationships [Valhalla Spoilers]

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 07:46 PM PST

So before I start, yes, I know there isn't really a straight "canon" answer here due to player choice. But let's just pretend there is. Because, there should be in theory. In-universe, Eivor lived her life only 1 way. We as the player may not be able to see it exactly, but it happened. So in Eivor's true canon life, what relationship from the game seems the most canon?

I haven't finished the game and explored all options yet, so I won't detail every potential option. I'll leave that for others to discuss below. What I will do is give what I think are the 2 most logical options.

    1. Randvi. Besides the fact that Eivor feels closest to her IMO, I know that she is the only one you can have a relationship with while being in another relationship. In no other scenario can you have 2 relations simultaneously. To me, that screams canon.

    2. Everyone. This may seem like a cop-out, but it could be the truth. If there are genetic memories of Eivor being with every potential romance option, then maybe she was? Maybe not long term, but she could have at least engaged in short-terms flings with each of the romanceable characters. This would make her canonically bisexual, and still leave room for Randvi being her most long-term/permanent relationship in the end.

Would love to hear y'all's thoughts on this.

Can Sages also remember their past lives? [Unity Spoilers]

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 01:39 PM PST

I don't really think this idea has been touched upon in any of the canon, but it might be a cool idea for them to play with in future titles. I immediately think to Germain in AC Unity and how he says "Jacques De Molay, you are avenged" or something along those lines before the fight at the end of the game. Him and De Molay were obviously both reincarnations of Aita, but does Germain have any knowledge of his real relation to Molay thru Aita's DNA? Like I said I don't think it's addressed one way or the other in the game but I could be wrong maybe. Just a random thought I had while doing homework and I didn't know if there was an answer to it!
