(SPOILERS) AC Valhalla theory: the nine isu cultures UPDATED.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 07:35 PM PST

Follow up from previous post about the possibility of several Precursor nations.

Long story short, the First Civ was not a singular culture. The fact that Eivor equated the Capitoline Triad as jotnar means that there are at least nine Isu ethnicities spread around the globe, each matching a world of the norse cosmology.

    These worlds are

    1. Alfheim - land of the light elves
    2. Asgard - land of the aesir
    3. Vanaheim - land of the vanir
    4. Jotunheim - land of the giants
    5. Midgard - land of the humans
    6. Muspelheim - land of the primordial heat
    7. Niflheim - land of the primordial cold
    8. Svartalfheim - land of the dark elves / dwarves
    9. Helheim - land of the damned

I´m so humbled that u/Darby_McDevitt, Narrative Director of AC Valhalla kindly responded, stating that these realms would be larger geographical zones. I proposed the smoldering realm of Muspelheim to be in Egypt, to which I got a nod that it actually was in northern Africa.

Today I remembered that we got a map of all Pieces of Eden scattered around the world, the original reason why Desmond was abducted. This map was revisited in Origins, activated in the Siwa Vault.

But we got that map in AC2, as the codex pages. Altair spent years gazing at the Apple (the same one who contained the map) and wrote this codex. If we look closer, we can see eight Assassin insignias on this map. I´d have assumed ten years ago they maked Assassins sanctuaries. Or, thinking in-universe, Hidden Ones Bureaus. But some insignias are in the middle of the ocean... And none to be seen in Rome, Alexandria, Brittania or France, where we know there was Hidden Ones activity during Altair´s life in the middle ages. And in this very same game we were introduced to six Assassins forefathers (the ones in the Auditore Villa Sanctuary). Darius from Persia, Itani from Babylon, Amunet from Egypt, Leonius from Rome, Wei Yu from China and Qulan Gal from Mongolia. And of all these we only did get one insignia in Mongolia (or in the middle of the asian continent). We did however get one insignia on North America and one in Scandinavia. Like, where the Grand Temple and the Ygdrassil Vault are.

So I say these insignias mark eight of the nine main Precursor sites, each a former capital of their nations. We know Asgard was in Scandinavia, Jotunheim was on North America, and Muspelheim was in (northern) Africa.

We got left Eastern Island (near Ecuador, in South America), the southern Pacific, the Indonesian Archipielago, the indian ocean near Australia, Mongolia and the missing realm. Note that if these were landmasses they´d be sunken just like Atlantis, courtesy of the Great Catastrophe.

First thing, what if the missing realm... Is actually on the map´s blind spot, the Poles. If it was the North Pole, they could be called Hyperboreans. But the South Pole and Antartica are the perfect place for a long lost civilization. On the Poles there are six months of night and six months of day. List like a little someone who was half beautiful woman and half rotting corpse. So I´d locate Helheim in the South Pole.

Note that Helheim is said in some norse myths to be a province of the land of primordial cold. Or in this case, its neighbour. Niflheim would be in the southern Pacific, surrounded by waters, mist and glaciers.

The moas of Eastern Island look like giants to me. But since Jotunheim is taken, this site must be different. The light elves should be comfortable near the sunny Ecuator, near lush jungles and forrests, but so´d be the Vanir. So I´d bet Eastern Island and the Indonesian Archipielago match Alfheim and Vanaheim.

In the middle of the asian continent, near the Gobi desert... I could imagine master masons and craftspeople, mining for resouces. Most rare earth elements are harvested in this area. What if the Svartalfheim was located here, and their satellite sites were from Tibet, Siberia and Mongolia.

Lastly we got Midgard. My original thought was Eden close to the Kilimanjaro. But this mount ishalf contintent away from the insignia. Maybe the isu from Muspelheim were the ones in charge of creating and educating mankind but the main population was elsewere. Or maybe the main "production" site was near modern day Australia. In any case, Midgard would be in the Indic Ocean.

TL;DR According to the map where Pieces of Eden are located we got from AC1 (the hologram cast by the Apple after the Al-Mualim boss fight), AC2 (the Codex pages) and Origins (the Siwa vault) I´ve updated the location of the nine Isu realms.

    1. Alfheim - Eastern Island or Indonesian Archipielago
    2. Asgard - Scandinavia
    3. Vanaheim - Eastern Island or Indonesian Archipielago
    4. Jotunheim - North America
    5. Midgard - Indian Ocean near Australia
    6. Muspelheim - (North) Africa
    7. Niflheim - Southern Pacific Ocean
    8. Svartalfheim - Continental Asia
    9. Helheim - South Pole

I do know keeping track of all this lore during 10+ years through 15+ video games, comics and books with several directors and plotlines involved is extremelly challenging. And I do not expect all details to be a 100 % consistent. But if this theory holds water, this means the blueprint of the Isu plots (which are the driving force of the franchise, Assassins and their enemies wrestling for Pieces of Eden) over the years has been in front of us, and we have DECADES of content ahead of us.

Are you okay with not having a new AC game until 2023 or 2024?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:46 AM PST

What if for some unknown reason Ubisoft decided to stop releasing new AC biennially, will you be okay with that? Personally, I am okay with it, nay, I WANT them to skip next year. Because I don't want the next AC to be "Hey it's just like Valhalla, but now it's on Japan!" I just want something different, not necessarily "old" AC or AC1 Remake, just different.

[AC Valhalla] I found words at the bottom of the ocean. May be an easter egg/secret?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 03:16 PM PST

https://imgur.com/a/y6W3QUl I randomly decided to dive to the bottom of the ocean in this area. Upon getting close to the bottom, i saw some White letters with a red background. A bit west of this I found even more.

What does it say? Think its some sort of secret? Think its me grasping at straws because this is obviously just some leftover texture?

I was playing AC:III and God, do I ever miss the parkour & social stealth systems

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:57 PM PST

The parkour system is so fluid and the animations are great. It's weird that we don't get the same variety of animations or even trees to parkour on in the RPG games. Valhalla is awesome and it would look odd as a Viking, I know, but I wouldn't mind continuing to get more RPG style AC games if they made the parkour fun again which I think had been lacking.

Also, slipping in and out of the social stealth animations in AC:III is very intuitive. With AC:V I hardly use them just because you have to stand from the right angle and then hold a button to activate it, then it becomes not useful... takes way too long with much payoff imo.

Anyways, really hope they improve upon these systems in future game as it would probably be a new trilogy and they usually do a large feature shakeup every few games.

How would you feel about an assassins creed game set in Africa?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 01:35 PM PST

Whenever I come on to this sub I see the same posts asking for the same places ,Japan, China and India, but in the time i've been here i've never seen posts asking for Africa .I know Egypt is technically in Africa and we had AC origins there, but there is so much of Africa left to explore e.g Nigeria, Cameroon and The Congo. There is a lot of history to explore in Africa and I think Africa would be a cool location for an assassins creed game.

Unfortunately my knowledge of past historical events in Africa is very limited so i'd like to know what you think of this and what era would be interesting to see in a future assassins creed game.

Edit: When I said Africa I meant like Eastern, Central and Western areas of Africa. Sorry to be so a bit brief on the matter. Btw yes the Eygpt part was in a originally but I put a spoiler on it (for some reason).

(Spoiler) Origins completely wastes Caesar's character

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 09:50 PM PST

I can't believe that the game's writers had one of history's most interesting characters at their disposal, and that he's used instead as a one dimensional villain. His speech at the end of the game sounded like it was written by a 12 year old. The part where Brutus (or maybe it was Cassius) decries Caesar for not acting on behalf of the people was especially laughable, seeing as how Brutus and Cassius were aristocratic conservative Optimates while Caesar was a reformist populist Populare.

All in all, I found the game's ending extremely disappointing. The game started off with a very powerful narrative, but after Ptolemy's death the story quickly fizzled out to the point that it basically felt that I was just mopping up by killing the remaining members of the Order. From a narrative stance, ending the game as Aya in a different country was also a little jarring. On that note, I also found Aya's character to be pretty unlikeable. I admittedly took a very long break from the game in the middle of the story, so I may have forgotten some of her character development, but my God her ending speech was edgy. Her character reminds me of how the Game of Thrones writers had trouble writing women, so they made them cold and edgy in order to portray them as strong.

The game had a absolutely wonderful open world, fantastic soundtrack, and I enjoyed the hell out of most of the story. I'm just bummed that it had to end so disappointingly.

Why won’t Ubisoft continue the story of a past character?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 10:40 AM PST

As Ubisoft continues making new games centered around new protagonists, I've always wondered: Why haven't they decided to go back to a previous protagonist?

Altaïr & Ezio are the only protagonists where they had multiple games, with Altaïr having the first game, Altaïr's Chronicles, Bloodlines, & even part of Revelations whereas Ezio has the entire Ezio trilogy.

It begs the question: After Ezio, why haven't they returned to a previous protagonist? For me, this is especially prevalent in 4 protagonists: Ratohnhaké:ton (Connor), Aveline de Grandpré, Shay Cormac, & Arno Dorian, whose stories feel unfinished. Will Ubisoft ever return to characters like that, especially since we know nothing of their later lives like we did with every other protagonist?

Saxon ignorance on full display on ACV

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:45 PM PST

So one minor detail I actually enjoy about ACV's story is the constant and perpetually endless incorrectness of Saxons identifying Danes and Norsemen. I don't know if it's historically accurate or if Ubisoft is just taking the piss, but all the Saxons in the game seem like uneducated idiots and it's actually pretty hilarious that Eivor never bothers to correct them when they call him a Dane because...there's literally no point. Always cracks me up. 😁

I believe I possibly figured out the origins of the Celtic ISU of Britain and Ireland (SPOILERS)

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 06:23 PM PST

This won't be a direct comparison to the taking of Ireland, but I can see how elements of the invasions could explain these ISU. My view is the Celtic ISU are the result of intermingling of Nordic and Mediterranean ISU. It's clear the different ethnic groups of ISU did not like one another, but..

    • The original ISU of Britain and Ireland were the Mediterranean ISU. They were the Fir Bolg. The Fir Bolg in the mythology left Ireland at one point, due to disaster and warfare to seek refugee in Greece, where they were enslaved by the Greeks/Med ISU who no longer saw them as kin. They then escaped the Med ISU/Greece back to Ireland and also Britain.
    • The Fir Bolg were then displaced by the Tuatha De Danann/Aesir ISU from the four great cities to the North of Ireland (Scandinavia). Many battles fought between these groups of ISU. After treaties, bloodshed, etc the soldiers/survivors respected one another, merged and formed the Celtic ISU of Britain and Ireland. We know beneath Stonehenge there was a barracks of the Celtic ISU. So my theory is neither the Nordic ISU or Mediterranean ISU viewed them favourably, large in part due to the hostility between the Nordic Isu and Mediterranean ISU, so a hybrid culture would be seen as an affront. So the Celtic ISU were attacked by both.
    • Loki is a perfect example of these hybrid culture ISU. Loki himself is a Nordic-Med ISU like the Celtic ISU, but brought up in Aesir culture, and it's probable he faced heavy discrimination from the Nordic ISU based on his attitude and likewise from the Med ISU too, except Aletheia.
    • So these Celtic ISU were caught in the awkward middle of an elitist war between two different ISU ethnic groups.

Pitch for the Netflix AC Anime

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 04:44 PM PST

Pitch for the Assassin's Creed anime on Netflix: A show similar to "The Queen's Gambit" but instead of chess, they play Orlog. Before you say they can't make an anime about a game, let me point out the numerous Yu-Gi-Oh series and Bakugan.

TIL: You can throw enemies around with spear special attack

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 11:58 PM PST

Searched and didn't see this anywhere, so thought I'd share:

Much like the harpoon skill, spears' special/secondary attack (used 2h or Lh) isn't just an impale and release - if you hold the button, then use directional input, you can throw enemies around after impaling them. Just one more reason to love spears...

Any other special hidden/unexplained mechanics people have found?

Playing female for the first time EVER

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 11:18 AM PST

Hey guys I (male in his 20's) just wanted to share my experience with you. And get your thoughts.

I really like RPGs of all kinds and have been playing them for years. Usually I pick them out very carefully and then take a deep dive and immerse myself in them. When possible, I would most of the time customise my character to be a idealised or cool alien version of myself. If that's not possible I would just take the male option. Never even thought of playing a female character. In ACV I did do the same thing. I played the story with Eivor as a male and really enjoyed it. I love the game and especially the armor, but I realised how bad they can look upgraded. I am the type of player who would rather die 20 times with a cool looking hero than win the fight in one or two tries with great stats. problem is I couldn't go back. That's why I started a new Playthru and chose for the first time ever female. Immediately from the beginning I was immersed and actually was way more invested in the story. Evading slavery actually felt like it because you would know she wouldn't be a field slave. With male Eivor it was just another hero thing a hero does. Sexist remarks actually enraged me and I had multiple situation where I was like: thanks for not criticising me in a sexist way, when characters in the story didn't agree with me. It's a great experience and I can really recommend it to everybody who feels like it.

This I might show how backwards I actually am, but maybe honesty is the only way feminism can prevail and enrich all our lives.

[Spoilers] Unique opportunity in the modern day

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 07:21 PM PST

Unique opportunity in the modern day

Since Valhalla left off with us as Basim/Loki in the modern day, Ubisoft has now made the closest thing we have to an antagonist our protagonist. They have also made it so that the protagonist has all the answers we are looking for as to what is going on.

I would say that we are likely to get a new character to play as since I can't really see them going the anti-hero route with Basim, but I also didn't call them "killing" Layla so there is that. If they do decide to stick with it, it's a unique opportunity for us to have a protagonist that we want to follow but not succeed. How are we thinking they are going to handle this?

About the birds flying around the sync points in every AC game..

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 04:25 AM PST

Hey guys, it's the first time ever I'm posting something on reddit :) Hopefully doing it right haha

It's a rather simple thing I wanted to share and hear your thoughts about: I recently watched one of my favorite YouTubers play AC Valhalla and he mentioned that it was funny how the game's graphics where so good, yet the birds circling the sync points are, as he called them, the "6fps birds". I smirked and continued to watch (it was a livestream actually, on twitch) and one of his followers mentioned in the chat that it was actually an homage to the first AC and was actually like that in every AC game since that.

I would love to think this is true, and as I got back to play the DLCs from Odyssey, since I've never done that, it turned out the birds circling your ship while sailing for example are the same 6fps birds as in Valhalla. Also the birds circling the many sync points.

Anyway, just something I wanted to share and hear your thoughts about :) Hope you all stay safe and have fun playing!

AC2 Sequence 13 is one of the best I have ever played

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 06:43 PM PST

I bought the Ezio trilogy a few months ago and finally got around to playing it and wow. I don't know why they didn't include sequences 12 and 13 in the original game. I owned AC2 back in the day but never had these.

    But wow.

Hunting down the Lieutenants, the speech at the end. It truly shows how much Ezio has grown into a true assassin.

Plus, it's fun to try and assassinate them stealthy like a true assassin

Capturing royal navy ships for your fleet in Rogue

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 08:36 PM PST

I was replaying Rogue and was looking for fleet tips when I found something interesting.

"While not possible in obtaining Royal Navy ships through combat, Shay could capture those disabled by snow tornadoes throughout the Atlantic and send it to his own fleet."

    -Assassin's Creed Wiki

    Huh. Neat.

But is it really possible? I haven't seen gameplay of this and I can't seem to make it happen. Do you guys know about this?

Love AC Valhalla but I have 2 major gameplay issues

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 04:28 PM PST

After 130 hours with all the regions completed (wealth, artifacts and mysteries, all of it) I have to say that I love the game.

However, there are 2 things Im missing :

    • One of them is the already mentioned lack of one-handed / smaller swords. I know there is a skill that allows you to dual wield heavy weapons but thats not what a single-handed sword is. However, I think its fair to thing this could be added with one of the 2 big DLCs coming, as Odyssey added new skills with new animations, this would be a similar case. I hope this is right! Im talking about swords like Uhtred´s on TLK, Serpent-Breath or the Sword of Kings/common one -handed from Vikings. A sword thats not that heavy that you have to rest it on your shoulder.Again, I hope this gets added either with the DLC or with a future update as a quality of life thing.
    • Second issue, the lack of open field battles like the one we can see in the Official Trailer. The are tons of raids, fort battles or city battles, which are AMAZING but I still think that there should be open battles happening on an open field! This again, is something they can do in the DLCs, however I also think that this should have been a thing in the base game. The only thing that comes closer is when you fight along Guthrum for the first time.

I would like to hear your thougts, mostly about the second point I made. Thank you for reading!
