    Orlog is fantastic board game

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 11:26 AM PST

Orlog is my favorite board game that I can play in a video game. It is very calming yet stressful when your opponent does something unexpected.

I've always liked Gwent in Witcher 3, but I think Orlog is better imo. It's much easier to understand and overall enjoyable.

I would absolutely love a mobile app or even an online mode to ply Orlog against other players. I would hope others feel the same way as Orlog is a welcomed addition imo.

Assassin's Creed is one of my favorites video games. Its fascinating game plot is intertwined with real historical events and real-life figures. I invite you to explore them all in a interactive viz i made in #Tableau. link in the first comment

[Valhalla] I just realized a major problem.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 02:05 PM PST

You can pet cats. You can pet dogs. You can even recruit a good-luck cat for your longship.

The white wolf you adopt into the Raven camp, the one you get to name (I chose Mouse, it was the least silly) and to call as your Man's Best Friend attack ...this wolf cannot be pet.

    My disappointment is immense. :(

The story in this game is amazing (Spoilers)

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 03:21 PM PST

I pray Darby McDevitt writes the next game. What he did with Valhalla was incredible and the story is the best since Black Flag's (which he also wrote).

The way he successfully linked every single AC game to Valhalla was something I really wanted and really love. And then how he directly linked the events of AC 3's modern day to Layla, and somehow explained and made sense of some of that dumb shit that happened in Odyssey, and made Layla a likeable very important character to the story. As a hardcore AC fan it makes me so happy that we have that fantastic storytelling and narrative back in the franchise in Valhalla. I think it's one of the best stories we've had.

Eivor is probably not on the level of someone like Bayek or Ezio but still incredibly well written. I love the bond that her and Sigurd share and her personal motivation as a character, and also the Asgard and Jotunheim arcs. How they weren't just silly mythilogical fantasy bullshit as some people wrote them off as being. They play a heavy role in the story and all of the characters, and are a represenation of Eivor's fate, her memories as Odin, and also the mythilogical and godly reprentations of the isu that actually existed.

People argue the story is badly paced. I see no truth in this. You can complete the story at your own pace, mix exploration with the Asgard/Jotunheim arcs, the alliances and side arcs, the Order storyline and exploration. And sure the game is quite long but there's barely any filler. I never lost engagement with any of the side arcs or interest in any of the main characters. They are all well written and most of them - even if their characters didn't develop deeply - matter significantly; helping you complete the final battle with Alfred's army, which leads to taking down the Order's presence in England.

But the ending is what impressed me the most. I thought the modern day was in the ground after the last few games but this one was really a bounce back. Layla seeing Desmond, the music playing, that whole scene gave me great memories of what made the modern day so captivating in AC 1, 3 and Ezio trilogy. Then Basim using the staff to come back to life was amazing and I can't wait to see where his and Alethia's character arcs go.

So yeah I love the story in this game. It did indeed get my hidden one hard. And Darby McDevitt is a great guy.

A.C Valhalla and Vikings has your boy addicted

Anyone else obsessed with vikings right now? 50 hours into Valhalla and just started season 3 of vikings. Just realized the music is done by the same person and its perfect.

Galloglach set, hide the shoulders, wear the helm, longbow (there's a sniper bow just called 'long bow'), dopplehander (nothing in offhand).

Scream about 'them' taking your women and other things while you run into battle. Only sometimes sneak in windows. Only sometimes.

Call the saxons 'longshanks' as much as possible.

Screw historicity, this is the way.

Every single Cloak in this game has clipping issues

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 09:00 AM PST

I am grateful that we can use our hoods and have awesome cloaks but this is really off putting. Every single cloak has clipping issue, I hope Ubisoft does something about it because for some of us this is a big issue while playing videogames

So I found a light shield called [SPOILER] and it has me thinking that [POSSIBLE DLC SPOILER]

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 08:41 PM PST

I found The Morrigan's Guard light shield and instantly was like, "Okay, this has to be Isu." I mean, it's glowing. The details say it's always cold and it's made of strange material, so... Isu. Not necessarily an X of Eden, but for sure not a mundane item. I thought, cool, okay, that's a nice nod to Celtic mythology that their deities were likely also Isu and it's a small callback to Shay naming his ship The Morrigan in AC:Rogue.

And it was only just now, dozens of hours after finding the item, that I remembered there's going to be an Ireland expansion! The Morrigan being a war goddess (or triumvirate of goddesses, in some tales) of Celtic mythology associated strongly with crows/ravens is a perfect tie-in to Eivor, and she/they would be the obvious choice for whatever role the Isu play in that storyline.

Honestly I hadn't even thought of possible First Civ stuff that would be involved in the Ireland expansion, I was just thinking it would be more kingdoms to ally and land to loot, but now I'm all excited for the Tuatha de Daanan (celestial race of which several were revered as gods? Isu!) and the mythical land of Tir na Nog to figure in!

I was at first annoyed by the fact that I had to win a game of Orlog to uncover one of the order members but then I became addicted to the game

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 08:52 AM PST

I hope they came out with a mobile game for it like with Gwent in The Witcher 3

Also side note, does anybody else find the automod in this sub to be insufferably annoying?

Is Uhtred the closest representation of Eivor?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 01:17 AM PST

After 100 hours of playing as Eivor I began a search to quench my desire for more representations of the era, fiction and non-fiction. I simply want more of this time period.

While the show Vikings is highly acclaimed, it predates the age we are playing in. It's referenced early on while talking to Ubba and Ivar that Ragnar was killed by snakes, so we know his time has passed.

The closest representation to the time period in the game that I can currently find is The Last Kingdom. I've watched the show throughout its entirety before, but decided to rewatch it for the sake of context in the game as well as the lack of other findings.

While rewatching the series I've noticed many surprising similarities between the show and Valhalla. Most noticeable was the almost identical appearance of Kingg Alfred. Similar in appearance, verbiage, and mannerisms. It's also noticeable how there are similarities between the stories of Uhtred and Eivor, both were used to unite the whole of England as well as how they relatively go about it.

So, is this closest we can get to a portrayal of Eivor? Or are there others?

Why the Isu didn't just built spaceships to escape the sun burn ?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 12:44 AM PST

I mean ISU tech is advance enough to bend space and time to their will and even form a sheild around the world .

Very hard doesnt feel challenging at all

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 01:33 AM PST

    very hard feels...

...easy like really easy. I started at normal first then moved to hard like after 10 hours into the game. It still felt unchallenging. So i moved up to very hard after a couple of missions and tbf i expected it to be challenging, where i gotta retry the mission a few times. And nah, i beat a raid while i was 220 in a 340 area. It seems like easy vs very hard is just more health to enemies.

Dont get me wrong, its a great game and i love the combat, the quests system and everything about it. I have almost 75 hours on it.

Armor and Weapon Realism in ACV

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 08:25 AM PST

Am I the only one that doesn't like the flashy or over the top weapons or armor? Like the more fantasy/outlandish an item is, the less interested I am in it. The Einherjar for example is a perfect set, looks good and believable, but like the new leaked Hel armor or like the Draugr/Valkyrie is just too much in my opinion. Does anyone else feel the same?

Was Really Worried About Valhalla... Loving it So Far

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 12:21 PM PST

Just for a point of reference, I own every single AC game, even the side-scrolling ones. Some I own on multiple platforms. I own the collector's edition of every game that had one. I have art books and merch.

    I'm a fan.

Every time a new AC game is shown off in alpha/beta stages there are hordes of people telling me why I should hate it. Valhalla was no different.

However, this was the first AC game where I wasn't able to purchase it on day 1 after losing my job because of COVID and needing to be careful with the money I had saved. So for the first time, I had the chance to see what others had to say about it before playing it myself.

The graphics are horrible, the animations are worse. Stealth is utterly broken. The gear system is the worst of any entry in the series. It is even further removed from "traditional" AC lore than Odyssey and Origins and of course, it is buggy as hell.

Enough people were saying these things that I was truly worried about the game even being something I could force myself to play through.

Well, my birthday just passed and someone got me the game.

The graphics are absolutely beautiful. If you've played Origins or Odyssey you know what to expect. This game seems to swap some of the saturation and fantasy-like idyllic art direction for a more realistic tone. I can understand some of the complaints about Ubisoft trying to recreate The Witcher 3 here. Not that I think the two look much alike, but there is mud and the buildings are made of wood and stone............. lol.

I've loved the art direction of this entire series and stopping to take in a scene in these games is nothing new. I've done it more times in my first 10 hours of Valhalla than likely all the other games combined, and I am a huge Egyptophile who took 100s of photos in Origins.

The animations look great to me. I do agree with the criticisms that everything moves too fast, but the actual animations themselves look fine. Sure, there are times when buggy shit happens, but when it is working as intended, it looks good.

Maybe stealth gets broken later on... but thus far it feels like what has changed has been for the better. I never want to go back to being able to one hit kill everything. It adds a sense of caution to walking around the world when there are people you can't kill right away.

Considering there is only one enemy type in the game which you will never be able to one hit kill, meaning you CAN level up and eventually OHK the majority of targets, I'm not really sure what the issue is. Even before you are an appropriate level, you can take the Advanced Assassination skill and still OHK most targets, with those being above your level by a given margin requiring you to successfully complete a super simple accuracy-based QTE. One button, the same button each time. You just need to be accurate. I think this is a great compromise to the systems of yore where you just couldn't OHK higher level enemies at all. Now you can, you just need to earn it.

The gear system is no better or worse than ever before. I do wish they'd settle on a system and iterate on that rather than each game being completely different. Once they put transmog in (which I hear will happen) I don't imagine I'd have any major complaints here. There are fewer weapons, but there are still cool, powerful ones to find.

The story thus far has been filled with fan service and ties to many previous games. Even if the rest of the game never even mentions Assassins at all... I really can't believe anyone thinks this game is somehow less important to the overarching narrative of the series. Either they are trolling, haven't actually played the game, or are going out of their way to remain willfully ignorant.

Yes, the game is buggy. It isn't excusable how many bugs I've encountered. Unfortunately, it is also par for the course with Ubisoft and I'm sure the major issues will be addressed. Still wrong to release it this way, but again... I'm used to it by now.

Do people miss Dual Hidden Blades?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 09:47 PM PST

As a kid who grew up on earlier Assassin's Creed games, I really think the dual blades are iconic and considered them a thing that would be constant forever in the games. I don't mind the single bladed option, but I just think the second blade added versatility and character to the assassins.

Even when playing Unity, I always wondered when I'd get that second blade and if we would progress to a higher Master assassin rank. I think the Frye twins do have two blades, but the second one doesn't have a big ass gauntlet, as some assassinations heavily imply. Now for Origins and Odyssey, I understand that the concept of dual blades wasn't there until I think Altair made it so very late in his life. I don't know much about Valhalla, but I am pretty confident that Eivor only has one too.

All in all, I miss that second blade and how the double assassinations with them looked awesome. I just wonder if there are others like me

Trying my first Assassin Creed game

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 02:17 AM PST

I am playing Black flag for few hours now and although the game seems enjoyable, what doesn't enjoyable is collecting so many collectibles and climbing up things for synchronization . I have a habit of replaying games multiple times over as well to fully understand their story & mechanics but I am already dreading to collect these things every time I'll play let alone one time ,to my understanding there is no new game plus either. Ignoring them and playing through main game doesn't work for me when I keep seeing the things I should collect so is there a way to hide these filler things from map/objective screen or some sort of mod that'll help with it ? Thanks

Is it even possible to fail in Valhalla?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 07:10 PM PST

So after putting in some 50+ hours I have realised that not once have I failed a quest, siege or raid. Sure I have died plenty but in all the times that I have run off to go loot in the middle of a siege or just left the armies to duke it out, I have never actually failed. I've even taken a detour in the middle of an escort mission and led the escortee through half of England, into enemy filled encampments only for him to be promptly ignored. You could and I did regularly fail battles in Odyssey. Now that I have come to this realisation the sieges don't feel the same, there's no urgency, there's no point in taking down enemy soldiers to make it easier for my side before moving onto the next objective. Now the game feels like a bike with training wheels on.

Can we just take a quick moment to look at?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 12:52 AM PST

Can we take a moment to look at the fact that Rage of Helheim is an OP ability when at level 2?? Went to fight Cordelia who has a recommended power of 340 at the power level of 293 just to say "fuck it let's see how far I can get". Went into the fight with all 4 adrenaline bars, used it the first time and took a QUARTER of her health bar. Used it again, same results and to make an already long story short, I cheesed the boss after using the ability 4 times in a matter of 1.5-2 minutes tops.. one of supposed hardest bosses of the game taken down after 4 hits..

Am I missing anything you guys?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 04:53 PM PST

So I've decided to play/watch almost the whole series mostly in order of release, cus that's better than chronological order right? If not please tell me why :)Anyways, this is everything I intend to do in order:

    Play AC 1

Watch the AC Lineage short film

    Play AC 2

Watch the AC Ascendance short film

    Play AC Brotherhood

    Play Revelations

Watch the AC Embers short film

    Play AC 3

    Play AC 4

    Play AC 4 Freedom Cry

    Play Rogue

    Play Unity

    Play Syndicate

    Watch the AC movie

    Play Origins

    Play Odyssey

So what I guess what I'm saying is, are the Chronicles games and Liberation and anything else I've missed important to the story, or would I be ok to skip them? I've only played AC 4, Unity, and Origins so I wanna get the whole story you know :D

Sorry I know it's a lot but I really appreciate any help if you've got the time :))))

My Eivor's voice changed, it was pretty cool!

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 11:41 PM PST

So I was walking around and my Eivor's voice was really muffled, I have to be honest I thought it was messing up. After I loaded the game up a second time I heard it again and then I noticed it, he had a face mask on! Pretty cool that this changed his voice in my opinion.
