Unity & Syndicate were really onto something with their "Black Box" misisons. Would've loved to see that elaborated on.

I replayed Syndicate not too long ago and I'm replaying Unity at the moment and I cannot help but think how awesome it would be to see the "Black Box" style of mision design developed further.

For those who don't know, these were basically the main assassination missions just like you'd have in every other AC game, except you'd be given a few optional opportunities. These could offer you a unique assassination, assistance from NPCs should things go awry, a change to the environment that aids you in someway and new infiltration opportunities. It was pretty limited and not that hard to achieve, but it was a nice addition and something new to AC.

It's a shame these were dropped, because it made missions a bit more interesting, despite the limited number of options available to you. That's why I'd love to see this style of mission return. I'd like to have even more options and different ways to reach and assassinate our targets in a single mission.

I wouldn't expect a full blown HITMAN style experience, but imagine if they did go that far? Like, not for every target, just the main ones. During the actual target mission you'd have multiple opportunities and methods to infiltrate and execute your target, but in addition to that... during the missions before the final mission, you can pick up clues and other optional intel that will unlock additional opportunities for the main mission!

Assassinating a major target should feel like an EVENT! A more elaborate and deeper take on the Black Box missions could help achieve that.

What did you think of the Black Box missions? Would you like to see them return?

    Okay, enough with the snakes.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:54 AM PST

Alright, I get it. Snakes are scary. But for fucksake, I am so sick of running into a snake everywhere I go. Raiding an abbey? Have some snakes in the corner. Why are there 3 snakes in the corner of a fucking ABBEY?! Sunday mass just wasn't risky enough for you guys, you needed some danger noodles to liven it up? Want the treasure in the well? How 'bout a snake to go with it? I just went past a church and there were two people on a bench and a snake just sitting there like, "Hey have you heard the good word guys?" Why are there snakes EVERYWHERE?

THEN the worst: ropes. I know what you're doing, Ubisoft; don't think I don't. I am so fed up with this bullshit cocktease of, hey, let's put out some treasure and surround it with coils of rope so that they think it's snakes, and then one guy said, "well what if just one of the coils, just hear me out... is actually a snake?" BRILLIANT, they said, like hell guys, even the non-snakes are snake tricks. Insane. Then you go through the rope room, kill the one non-rope real-snake, you open the treasure, and then a nearby pot explodes and BOOM SNAKE PART TWO.

I was off in a field in Hamtunscire, saw some treasure on the map, was horsing up, and oh look, probably 10,000 snakes like God shipped me a Biblical plague just in time for Christmas. Someone made that area, I promise you, with like 3 snakes, then someone looked over his shoulder and said, "you know, Greg, I think you're really not meeting your snake quota for the month, how 'bout you throw another seven dozen at that puppy and watch it hiss like hell." Greg, you fucked up with 3, and you need to stop listening to snake guy's advise he is RUINING YOUR PASSION.

I hate snakes. That about covers it.

Edit/update: while I appreciate everyone's 'snek' awards, I would like to remind people that more snakes is not making my life any better; thank you.

Your crew should keep singing when you sail past a raiding target unless you actually raid it

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:22 AM PST

The only way to hear more than 10-20 seconds of a song at a time is to just sit still. As you sail along the rivers you constantly pass raiding targets that interrupt the song. This is very annoying, especially when the raiding targets are things you've already hit and cleared out. They shouldn't stop singing unless you actually hit the button to start a raid.

Ok Ubisoft I love Valhalla, I really do. But whoever designed the Order tab needs their head examined.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 02:30 AM PST

Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to have visible silhouettes of the Order members before you ever meet them, therefore spoiling yourself of certain arcs just by looking at them

The next Assassins Creed should be a rookie assassin.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 06:09 PM PST

Like starting up from the beginning like Ezio. Doesn't have to be that he is a non assassin who becomes one. We already have that. But a rookie Assassin who is already dedicated to the order, or becomes dedicated at the beginning.

And the sequel should have templars that you thought were assassins in the first game. :p we need another major character instead of jumping around so much.

Jumping around was good because we had a LOT of time with Ezio already, but I'd like to spend time like that with another character now.

    User photos are not helpful

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 05:29 PM PST

Does anyone else find that the user photos spoil the adventure for them? Sometimes I need to set a marker and the hover over reveals more than what it should.

I've seen major fights or legendary fights shown before I even get there. Can someone tell me how to disable this feature?

Please, allow us to switch between armor and weapon appearances

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:34 PM PST

It'd be nice if I could make a mythical item look like the flawless variant etc. similarly to how Ghost of Tsushima handles it (for example, when you upgrage the Sakai Clan Armor to lvl 3, you can make it look like the lvl 1 or 2 variants). I just hate how golden/gilded everything is when you upgrade items to mythical. And honestly, I'm okay with that as long as I can revert those upgrades, at least visually.

We Really Need Weapon and Shields Categorised!

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:43 PM PST

We really need to have weapons and shields categorised in the Left and Right Hand menus, as it just becomes a messy jumble and a pain in the arse to sort through. Odyssey and Origins were categorised, why not Valhalla

Can we finally get rid of dialogue choices in the next game?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:17 AM PST

Has anyone else noticed that for the majority of the dialogue options in Valhalla, Eivor just ends up saying all of it anyway, regardless of your choice?

I really hope they scrap it completely in the next game it would make the dialogue and cutscenes flow much more smoothly. I just really think it's a pointless feature that ruins the experience

Bjorn is literally the Wreck It Ralph of AC Valhalla

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:08 PM PST

The dude is 10 ft tall, a berserker, and supposed to be a valuable warrior on my ship for raids, but he keeps skipping out on me and having himself replaced while he goes off living a peaceful life in the settlement. For all I know, I'll run into him the next time I boot up Fall Guys or maybe in Cyberpunk. You do you Bjorn; I won't fight anymore and keep assigning you to the raiding party.

Please Ubisoft, give us one-handed swords.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 04:10 AM PST

I really enjoy Valhalla, but since it's release I was really hoping to fight with one-handed swords. I hope those will come in some next update. Cause combination of sword and shield is dope for fighting. Right now I use shield and 2-handed sword, but that just doesn't feel right.

P.S.: Why we have in game 2-handed swords, which didn't exist in England like till 14th century (I think), but we don't have 1-handed swords, which actually were very common in that times? 😂

I think a Transmog feature would be very welcome

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 05:36 PM PST

I find it odd that my viking lieutenant has more cosmetic options then me. My play style shouldn't necessarily determine my look.

With limited gear sets versus previous games I think we should be able to rock a complete set for the stats but be able to choose any appearance from any previous unlocked piece of gear.

Is there a way to do this? Didn't odyssey have this option? If there is a way to transmog weapons and armor please comment below.

If there isn't a transmog option, you'd think Ubisoft would be able to make more money off cosmetics if there were. Thanks for reading.

Thoughts on unity? I'm kinda frustrated with it.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:32 PM PST

The last game I played before I put down the series was black flag. Absolutely loved black flag. But now I'm moving forward in the series.

I'm currently on unity, and is it just me, or is it extremely frustrating at times? I'm really awful/unlucky when it comes to stealth, so often I just have to say "fuck it" and fight everyone. There are so many fights in this game that feel impossible. Like when most of the enemies in the group you're fighting have pistols. It's very hard to dodge a bullet. And often when I'm doing a dodge roll to avoid it, another enemy will use the opportunity to hit me. You can't run from these fights either cause they'll all just chase after you and shoot you in the back.

The enemies in this game seem to be a lot smarter than in previous games. Sometimes I have trouble just taking on two enemies because as soon as I parry a blow and get ready to counter attack, the other enemy chooses to attack at that moment. Over and over again so I can't land any blows.

There's also the fact that it's difficult sometimes to target the enemy you want to attack. I'll parry an attack and go to counter, but the game shifts to another enemy that I can't damage because I haven't parried an attack from him yet.

This is incredibly frustrating sometimes. I try to do everything stealthily, but some of the situations don't seem possible to sneak into and kill everyone. So you get spotted and everyone enemy starts shooting you.

Did you guys like unity? Am I just terrible at video games?

AC Valhalla Fire Appears to Cast no Light

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:55 PM PST

Been playing for about 3 hours and noticed that unless I am in a pitch black area, torches make no difference to the lighting in an area.

Fires also don't cast any light on the things they are near.

Is this intended? I mean, even the fires outside of the buildings in your village don't cast any light on the wooden beams they are right in front of.

    New Player Wanting Some Guidance

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:50 PM PST

So, I have never played an Assassin's Creed game. However, I have always enjoyed stories about vikings and their history etc. I'm seriously interested in getting the game, I was just curious what some seasoned Assassin's Creed players would think about jumping into Valhalla without playing the others. Is it a good idea? Will it hurt the experience? Is the gameplay unforgiving to new players?

EDIT: Follow up question! From what I'm seeing the series for revamped from Origins? There is currently a bundle with Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla for 80 dollars should I invest so I don't feel lost in the capstone of Valhalla?

Minor characters are so well written

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:47 AM PST

Whenever I find myself having to do small little tasks like cleaning up leftover world events or doing some of the random ravensthorpe quests, I anticipate I'm going to be bored by them, but so many of the random characters you meet are so delightfully written. I end up actually caring about the stories for their own sake. Really helps make the world feel more alive.

    Conclusion to the Unity/Syndicate “trilogy”

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:08 AM PST

Every main game with the exception of AC1, AC Unity and AC Syndicate seem to fit nicely into a trilogy.

The Ezio Trilogy: AC II, AC Brotherhood, AC Revelations

All focus on the life of Ezio and have a distinct classic gameplay style compared to the newer games.

The Colonial/Kenway Trilogy: AC III, AC Black Flag, AC Rogue

All set in the Americas during the era of colonization, emphasis on naval combat, similar gameplay style. Family drama involving Connor, Edward and Haytham Kenway.

The Mythology Trilogy: AC Origins, AC Odyssey, AC Valhalla

All feature the three most well-known mythological canons: Egyptian, Greek, and Norse. Exploring massive open worlds with multiple cities and villages across the map. All three have a pretty similar gameplay style that's different from the earlier games.

Even though they don't seem to be closely tied storywise, Unity and Syndicate are clearly the most similar to each other gameplay-wise. Also, they both take place in the long 19th century (1789-1914) in Europe. Both games focus on one big city (Paris/London), and let us go backwards or forwards in time to show us what the city looked like at other points in history (Helix rifts) and both games have side missions with an emphasis on investigating crimes. Most importantly, both games have themes of revolution, with the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, and Jacob/Evie meeting Karl Marx. Unity and Syndicate have plenty of similarities, but we never got a third installment to round out the series like the other trilogies did.

I know we probably won't get a conclusion to this "trilogy" but just for fun, what would you have liked for it to have been?

I've received trophies for things that I haven't completed in Valhalla yet.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:32 PM PST

I've only logged about 4 hours so far, but I've already gotten two ultra rare trophies seemingly for defeating just a few enemies. Has anyone experienced the same? I won't complain too much I guess, but it makes me a little sad that now I'll be less inclined to do those specific things because I already have the trophies.

List of downgrades and removed features from AC Odyssey

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:36 PM PST

AC Valhalla is amazing and is my favourite AC ever with many improvements over odyssey but there are still some downgrades and removed features from Odyssey I really miss.

    1. Horse combat and controls: In Odyssey you can fight enemies on horses using your melee weapons. In Valhalla, You can only do a simple useless kick. Also, You can't rear your horse in Valhalla anymore like you did in Odyssey. EDIT: Some user claimed you can rear in Valhalla. But I'm not able to do so. I don't know what key you should press for it
    2. Petting bird removed: When you stand idle in Odyssey, your bird will land on your arms and you can pet it by pressing E. In Valhalla, it lands on your shoulders so you can't pet it anymore. You can pet Dogs and cats tho
    3. Visual Customization removed: I know this will be added later in the game but still the lack of it pisses me lot since Valhalla's Mythical outfits are ugly as hell.
    4. One handed swords removed: There are even AC games without hidden blade, but there is no AC game or literally no RPG game that takes place before the modern age without one-handed swords. Why Valhalla removed it then. I know using a skill, you can wield 2 handed swords in 1 hand but they look too big
    5. Physics kinda downgraded. I know Odyssey has no cloaks but with mods, You can equip one. And it's physics seem to be better than Valhalla.
    6. Entire gear and it's customization: They seem to be a complete mess. The hood cloak system is something I completely hate about. Wish they divided the hood and cloak into 2 set pieces.
    7. Facial animations and cutscenes. I know both are very bad animations but the lipsyncing and facial movement is far worse in Valhalla. I really hope they use Cyberpunk's JALI animation system for the next AC game

Will update the list as I find more

As a fairly new fan to the series, AC Syndicate is the best AC i've experienced yet

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 04:01 PM PST

First AC i played was AC3 back in 2012.

Next one was Odyssey followed by Origins and eventually Valhalla from 2018 to 2020.

After Valhalla i wanted to try the old games and, fortunately, they're on sale at the moment.

So i first tried out Unity which was kinda lame.

But then i started Syndicate and OH MY GOD THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AC EVER. The combat mechanics are wild, the animations look SICK, the concept of "sneaking and assassinating freely" is more present than in any other AC, Evie looks GORGEOUS (im playing as her 24/7 unless im forced to play the other dude), the music causes legit goosebumps, the grappling hook eliminates having to climb up and down for an eternity and the world feels super immersive.

And all this still holds true even by 2020 standards. Im seriously questioning why Ubi just didnt re-use Syndicats combat mechanics, they just feel so fluid and satisfying.

The only sin about this game is that it is too short and a little bit too grindy. But i DEFINITELY know i will re-play it again some time in the future once im done.

If Ubisoft gave me a 60 to 80 hour AC Syndicate experience, i would gladly throw my money at them.

what I would like to see in future games.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:11 PM PST

personally, i feel that we need to return to a city setting instead of whole countries. i feel that parkour should be the main form of transportation instead of horses or something like that unless is for fast travel. i would love to keep the current fighting style but with some small changes to make it more smooth while fighting in smaller areas like city alleys. we definitely need to go back to parkour and assassinations as the main tools of gameplays but with a better combat system than the old parry and instant kill that we had in older games.

I've seen multiple people complain about being under leveled... you should NEVER be under leveled.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:11 AM PST

    [Valhalla]

First and foremost, do your damn map markers. I'm not saying 100% the wealth, mysteries, etc -but do the ones nearby. As you are on your quests just do the ones you are near. They are EXTREMELY easy xp and takes a couple of minutes.

Second, make sure you visit Ranvi in your longhouse in your settlement and get alliances made. Those are your story quests and side quests.

Thirdly, make sure under the Order tab, you hunt down revealed Order members. (Click their portrait and make sure you press A/x/click(?) On "track" for them to show on your map)

Fourth, raids are easy ways to get experience.

Fifth, even if you are 20-50 levels under leveled, you should still be able to hold your own.

Sixth, ensure your gear is leveled up with the blacksmith. (If you follow tip 1 you should have plenty of resources).

All the above should make the game relatively easy for you. If you are the type that gets all the collectibles in an area, you'll be so over powered you'll be upping the difficulty to max for fun.
