IMPORTANT UPDATE: Our new Valhalla spoiler policy and an update on Photo Mode posts, effective immediately

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 10:00 AM PDT

    Hey everyone!

We are just over two weeks away from Valhalla's launch and we have a couple of important announcements for you.

First, in an effort to minimize any spoilers, we are once again implementing our strict spoiler policy for the incoming months, effective immediately. This means that any untagged spoilers will be met with a 2-week ban. These include spoilers in the title of your post, untagged spoilers in a non-spoiler post, intentional spoiling etc. Our team politely asks you to be considerate to everyone else on the subreddit and hide your own spoilers, as well as report any comments or posts that break our spoiler policy. We would also like to encourage you to read our rules before posting.

If you do not wish to risk being spoiled, now is a good time to go dark.

    Current spoiler policy applies for:

    • Assassin's Creed Valhalla
    • Wrath of the Druids (DLC)
    • The Siege of Paris (DLC)
    • Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Song of Glory (comic)
    • Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Geirmund's Saga (novel)
    • All other comics, novels and transmedia releases

    Valhalla Spoiler Policy:

    • If your post contains any spoilers always use [Spoiler] in the title, BUT DO NOT SPOIL ANYTHING IN THE TITLE ITSELF.
    • You must spoiler-tag your posts and comments appropriately or they will be removed.
    • Initially any untagged posts and comments spoiling Valhalla will be met with a 2-week ban. Troll accounts will be banned permanently.
    • Once several months have passed, we will loosen up the restrictions and punishments until they're finally removed a year or so from now.
    • If the post already has [Spoiler] in its title, you do not need to hide any spoiler comments, as long as they are within the scope of the same topic.
    • If you come across any untagged spoilers, report and downvote them. We will try to remove them as quickly as possible.

Bannable offenses include, but are not limited to:

    • Main story spoilers (Eivor's personal journey, Hidden ones, settlement narrative etc.).
    • Side quest / world event spoilers.
    • Present day spoilers, Animus anomalies and Isu lore.
    • Historical lore spoilers, such as Codex pages/Viking texts etc.
    • Any gameplay content or features not announced by Ubisoft and / or included in their marketing campaign.

In general, if you think something may be a spoiler it's best to treat it as one.

    How to hide spoilers:

    Preferred method:

    >!Eivor is a Viking.!<

    Result: Eivor is a Viking.

DO NOT leave any spaces at the start or the end. You can also use the "Spoiler" function in Reddit's text editor.

    Alternative method (Old Reddit):

[Valhalla Spoiler](#s "Eivor is a Viking.")

    Result: Valhalla Spoiler

This method primarily works for old Reddit and may not work on Redesign. We encourage everyone to use the first, preferred method.

An update on Photo Mode posts

Effective immediately, we are also temporarily banning Photo Mode posts for the near future. We understand the community's interest about this, but we would like for everyone to have enough time to experience the game at their own pace and we want to make sure the subreddit is the best place for discussion, which means not having a front page filled with screenshot posts. This also helps us reduce the risk of spoilers, as some users may unintentionally or intentionally include spoiler images in their posts. Photo Mode posts will be restored at a later date.

The release of a new game means a lot of excitement for everyone and even more work for us, so we would like to politely ask you to be responsible, respectful and understanding with each other. Thank you for your cooperation.

    [Day 46/60] Assassin's Creed Odyssey - Chapter 8 & 9 + Epilogue - 'Falling Down and Rising Up'

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 06:00 AM PDT

    AC Marathon 2020 - Day 46

    Assassin's Creed Odyssey - Chapter 8 + 9 & Epilogue - 'Falling Down and Rising Up'

Greetings, Assassins! After our Conquest Battle yesterday, we come face to face with Deimos again, this time from inside a jail cell. Be careful of your words! Once we're out of jail, we work to discredit Kleon, and then it's another Battle to stop him and the Athenian army. We end the family story with a return to Sparta and Mount Taygetos.

Today's Targets: Rhexenor, Kleon, possibly Deimos

    ODYSSEY NOTES

Please note, it is strongly recommended to play on New Game Plus. It'll be easier to keep up with the fast pace of the Marathon not having to worry as much about resources, money & gear, and leveling up your character and ship.

During the Marathon, we will be playing the family story, and the First Civ story. We will not be covering the elimination of all the Cultists, only the ones as defeated during the other two story lines.

The ending of the family story could be different for you depending on choices you've taken during the game. For example, your choice of words during *Doing Time will have a major effect on the family story ending.*

For those who defeat all the Cultists, there is a quest you can complete called *Fresh Start** - meet with the Ghost in the lair of the Cult of Kosmos*

Valhalla is exactly the type of game i've wanted to fill my Witcher 3 itch

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 05:56 PM PDT

It has many of the same medieval aesthetics and the foggy, gloomy and damp, cold European environments that I love. While more realistic, there's still characters emulating folklore and folklore inspired animals and events, Plus with the Norse-Gaels of Ireland coming as DLC, we're basically getting Skellige 2.0. I can't wait!

So, I was bored, and make this. I call it, "The Desmond Era". I was randomly thinking about Assassin's Creed, and thought I'd make this. It came out better than I thought. I hope you like it!

I miss Unity's parkour. Wish they make one more game, without making the mistakes they made in Unity. Thoughts?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 08:13 PM PDT

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed all of the titles in the AC series. Origins, Odyssey and now Valhalla, the newest members of the group are undeniable beautiful. But God I miss the parkour days in Unity and Syndicate, and the older games like 3 and Black Flag. So fluid and satisfying.

I really thought that that would be the future of the series after playing Unity. Really hope they try to bring that feel back for one more time in a future game.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Update 1.01 File Size and Patch Notes

Trying to finish Origins finally before Vahalla and I don’t think the storytelling is all that good [spoilers]

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 07:13 AM PDT

I enjoy the characterization of Bayek but it feels like the actual story is so random and half baked. Everything just seems to sort of randomly happen with no buildup and no foreshadowing and the lack of a Codex makes the main story really confusing unless you do external research on the period and characters.

It just feels like every mission just sort of happens, characters other than Bayek and Aya don't really have arcs or have their motivations explored at all. Even the beginning of the game is so sloppy and disorienting with the way it starts in media res and the sequence of events never quite makes sense.

I think this was their most open ended game up to this point and it didn't feel like they knew how to properly pace a linear plot throughline through an open world this broad. Lord knows Odyssey has some issues but the overarching plot was much more coherent, despite Bayek himself being a gem.

The Struggle for Arabia - Mildly Obscure Setting Discussions

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 08:50 AM PDT

A common trait Assassin's Creed groups have is the constant theorizing about future settings, because historical tourism is one of the best parts of the series. Many fans want pretty cliche settings such as the American Civil War and Wild West, World War 2, Ancient Rome, and Feudal Japan. Most of these popular settings will be discussed in my series on commonly suggested settings. The common thread between all settings in this series of posts is that they have not appeared on a Ubisoft poll or survey that can be easily found (China, Japan, Rome), they are not overly requested settings by the fanbase (see wild west and world war 2), and they all are relatively known enough to be marketable to a broad base. In each of these posts, I'll be discussing map areas, cities, architecture, culture, wars, historical events, historical characters, broad conjecture on how AC could work with this, and any existing lore in this area.

During the 18th century, the Ottoman Empire was reaching its zenith controlling a large amount of land surrounding the Mediterranean and a large amount of the Arabian Peninsula. They were chiefly opposed by Qajar Persia (Iran), Oman, Yemen, and Britain. Yemen was at the time the world's only coffee export from the city of Mocha. The mid 18th century would see the beginning of a large disturbance in the region. Britain smuggled coffee seeds out of Yemen to begin growing in other countries like India, Iran began pushing to the west to take Basra. Kuwait was on the rise as a large trading hub. Most importantly, Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab formed the Islamic movement and doctrine of Wahhabism and partnered with Prince Muhammad bin Saud of the House of Saud. This was the formation of the first Saudi State known as the Emirate of Diriyah (due to the capital being Diriyah). Over the next 50 years, the Emirate would grow to conquer the majority of the Arabian Peninsula and part of Jordan.

This wildly changed the political landscape. Yemen was the Sultanate of Lahej and became independent of the Ottomans due to the state fracturing from the Arabian invasion. The island of Bahrain in the Persian Gulf was controlled by the House of Khalifa and also controlled Qatar. Qatar, however, was conquered by the House of Saud. The House of Al-Sabah became the Emir of Kuwait and allied themselves with the Ottomans. The Omani were controlled by the House of Al Said and during this period launched several attempted invasions of Qatar and Bahrain, rebuffed by Al-Khalifa with the Wahhabi Saudis.

In 1809, Britain launched an expedition into the Persian Gulf against Al Qawasim that controlled part of what is now the United Arab Emirates due to alleged piracy from Wahhabis. In reality, they wished to destroy the Al Qawasim family's power and French Influence for easier shipping and trade routes. This would cause the British to enter battle at and sack Ras al-Khaimah in 1809 and several small towns along the coast for a year before sailing east to Java. In 1810, most of the Arabian Peninsula was at war, and with the instability, the Governor of Egypt, Muhammad Ali Pasha would be ordered to invade Arabia.

Internal struggles would delay that order until 1811 when the governor's son, Ibrahim Pasha would lead the invading force against the House of Saud. The first half of the campaign took place over the next year, pushing from Yanbu down to Medina and then capturing Mecca in 1812. Mecca is a very important holy site in Islam and was a primary goal for the Ottomans. The Sauds continued to resist but Pasha began pushing his way into the Arabian Desert. He had to cross 400 miles to reach the capital of Diriyah, but marched a longer route, destroying fortresses along the way.

During this 6 year march, the new Sultan of Oman pushed back against Wahhabis in Oman and its border, pushing them back into the Empty Quarter (a largely empty portion of southern Suadi Arabia). In the Empty Quarter, however, is the likely location of the Atlantis of the Sands, or as mentioned in the Quran, Iram of the Pillars. Shown in Uncharted 3 as well, Iram was a potentially lost city with large ornate pillars or towers lost beneath the sands. I'm personally a sucker for lost cities and cities buried underground, water, or sand (see Kitezh from tomb raider for example) and would love to be able to explore an underground Arab metropolis accessed through a lone pillar sticking out of the sand. While there's no isu vault in the region, there are many potential explanations for how the city could survive underground such both realistic and based on isu technology.

The House of Saud also controlled Jordan and the region that the city of Petra is in from 1803 until 1812 when the war forced them to withdraw. Petra was actually far more than just the famous building, and was a large city, creating an artificial oasis that supported over 30,000 people. Due to how dry the desert is, many people, not just the Nabateans of petra created massive underground cisterns, tunnels, and aqueducts to control water throughout the middle east (and even in Europe). Petra was rediscovered by Europeans in 1812 and began being mapped in the 1820s, making for a fantastic potential DLC. Though I'd love to see this city at its prime before being lost to the ages in the 13th century due to Forts being built due to the Crusades. Maybe in an Ac1 remake.

Britain was now pushing back against the regional powers in the Gulf of Iran. They were already cucking Persia by forcing it into various treaties to decide its borders with Russia, while also funding it to go to war with the Ottomans in Iraq. The local Sheikhs of Kuwait used this to help consolidate power. In 1814 the Sheikh Abdullah I Al-Sabah was killed allowing for Jaber I Ah-Sabah to become Sheikh. He assisted the Ottomans in their wars against the Banu Ka'b in northern Arabia and aided in the defense of Basra and Khorramshahr. Basra is a city that has an Isu temple under it, interestingly. The British responded by attempting to make Kuwait a protectorate of Britain, which was violently rebuffed. This sounds like a great AC sequence where the assassins go to fight the Iranians and Banu Ka'b backed by the British and then followed up by fighting the British themselves. Perfect opportunity for an assassination mission too.

During this, Bahrain took back Kuwait and some of the surrounding coastlines of the Emirate of Diriyah. Soon after in 1818, Ibrahim reached Diriyah and besieged it, sacking it, and Abdullah bin Saud, the leader of the house of Saud was executed soon after. The first Saudi State was destroyed leaving behind the Ottoman control throughout Arabia as the tribes and petty kings scattered. Despite this, the royal families were not destroyed, and the majority of these families still rule these countries today, having some turbulence due to wars and re-establishment of dynasties in the coming decades after this. Britain would eventually force Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the Al Qawasim family, and Oman into submission in 1820 as well with the general maritime Treaty of 1820. While this doesn't sound like a happy ending, I don't think our assassin character should side with any individual leader or country. Ultimately every side was mildly tyrannical and overstepped the lines of decency for power. I think situations like AC1 where the assassins are a neutral party taking out arms dealers and corrupt city officials would work best in this instance. The Templars could just use the region for profit off war while using other avenues to advance more sinister plots.

This region also has a ton to offer. Besides the cities mentioned already, there's the capital of Oman, Muscat, Dubai was just being formed and the Al Fahidi Fort had already been there for a while, and Sanaa was a thriving and beautiful city for the 19th century with townhouses with a fantastic Yemen flair. Many parts of the coastline are very lush, while the inside of the desert can look almost alien, providing a fantastic opportunity for a variety of environments like we saw with origins as well.

Could *SPOILER* be a member/future member of the Assassins/Hidden Ones in AC: Valhalla?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 09:50 PM PDT

So in many of the Assassin's Creed games there are characters that are members of the Assassins or the Hidden Ones, oftentimes even characters that are unexpected to be connected (Macchiavelli, Piri Reis, Mary Read, Phanos, Phoxidas).

Ivarr's clothing is noticeably similar in coloration to Eivor's default Raven Clan outfit (Teal tunic/shirt, red sash). Could just be a coincidence, or perhaps Ivarr is brought into the Hidden Ones at some point along with Eivor? I doubt Basim and Hytham will be the only Hidden Ones you encounter in the game, and many are theorizing that Eivor may play a hand in the foundation of the Scandinavian branch of the Assassin's Brotherhood. Perhaps Ivarr is one of the first to be inducted into that branch?

How would you rank the cities from the Desmond era?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 12:52 AM PDT

By "Desmond era" I mean AC1-3. I'm personally not including 3 (I don't like how open/spacious they are, other than Frontier), but feel free to since it's literally what I'm asking.

Note: I'm not including Masyaf, Kingdom, Monteriggioni, Tuscany, Flori or Cappodocia because they're not big enough to be cities. You can if you like.

    1. Damascus: Not only is it the first city you visit, it's one of the most memorable cities in the franchise. I love how every city has its own art direction with Damascus being sandy, Jerusalem being green and Acre having kind of an evil look with pikes, English churches, gothic architecture etc. Damascus is at the top because the design is perfect for both free running and the tone of the game.

    2. Constantinople: This map is basically a playground for parkour. Ziplines and catwalks everywhere. Super fun to run around in. One of the only maps I've bothered to play in post-game. I also love the art direction, it feels like it pays homage to AC1, especially with the view points.

    3. Venice: It's the amount of railings on the side of the buildings. Super fun to run around. Parkour is great in Venice. Venice also has the best soundtrack. Venice rooftops is one of my favourite scores in the Ezio trilogy (Revelations menu being my fave).

    4. Florence: I love how free the city feels move around in and navigate. It's not very challenging though. Barely any guards. The architecture is also repetitive af.

    5. Acre: I just really like the art direction. Everything about it feels both evil and English at the same time. We don't only hear about how it's been taken over by King Richard, we can see it. The churches also sound great with their monasteristic (is that a word?) hymns. It's drenched in atmosphere. Not very fun to move about in though.

    6. Jerusalem: Umm... It's very round? I'm not a fan.

    7. Rome: 70% countryside. I can't believe you've done this.

Mildly Amusing Incident in Odyssey - I'm Going On A Bear Hunt

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 02:30 PM PDT

So after reading the classic children's book 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt' to my daughter at bed time this evening I settled down for some Odyssey. I started the 'Legacy Of The First Blade' side quest 'Dead Man Rises'. I read the first note that instructed me to travel to the military base and started on my journey.

Along the way I stumbled upon a bear, for the sole purpose of making a bad joke to my wife, I decided to fight said bear, and turned to my wife and told her that I was going on a bear hunt, and I wasn't scared - well I wasn't until it became clear that the bear had me beat and I died.

Restarting the journey, imagine my joy when I finally made it to the base to find out my next task: Go on a bear hunt...

Reda Quest level way too high on AC Origins?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 10:17 PM PDT

Are the levels of the daily Reda Quest on AC Origins random or should they be scaled to what your level is? I received a quest that was about 14 levels higher than mine, so obviously when I got close the bandits (Stolen Goods quest) were way too high for me to try and fight. Is this common? Also ... it says every 24 hours to get a new quest. Silly question here: is that 24 hours in the game ...or 24 REAL hours of my time before I can get another one?

Opinion: I hope AC Valhalla presents this feature of Viking shields

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 11:47 PM PDT

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that Viking shields were deliberately made to be weak around the edges in order to let an enemy's sword cut through and get trapped into the wood.

What if Ubisoft spices up the shield by adding this function? Maybe if you hit the parry button at the right time, you could disarm the opponent in such a way and then do a sick finisher? Or since they're aiming for an RPG-style gameplay, certain shields have a higher chance of disarming someone this way

How long do you think Assassin's creed valhalla Game by length is?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 05:49 AM PDT

Seeing as the map size is slightly bigger then Origins, Origins is 80km and Valhalla is 94km land mass only and 120km with sea included, how long do you think it will be?

    Map difference

How long to beat assassin's Creed games

Origins is 30hrs for main quest, 51hrs with side quests, and 82hrs for completionist.

Oddessey is 42hrs, 80hrs with side, and 130 for completionist.

I think it's pretty much the same as Origins, just because of the side quests being done differently, I believe they are way shorter from what I can tell. What does everyone think? Please keep it civil. Thanks 👍

After long hiatus, I completed AC Origins Main Story

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 07:03 AM PDT

I was a huge fan early on, no lifed AC1 and 2 and got 1000G (xbox player), tried my best to get as many solo achievemenra in AC3, Brotherhood and Revelations as possible. Throughly enjoyed AC Black Flag, and then I burned out on Rogue, I don't know if it was playing the same and similar locations for 3 games that caused me to fall out of love.

Anyways, I picked up AC Origins a year ago, started playing this summer and stuck it out.

Bayek and Aya felt so perfect as a couple, Bayek's conviction felt relatable, his pain real, his damage at the end tragic. Origins was the shake up AC needed, and the one I needed.

I love the faux history interlaced with actual history, that's what kept me invested for so long, and what has me staying on Origins to get through The Hidden Ones and Curse of the Pharaohs DLC.

That's it really. My love letter to the series, and my rekindled love for it.

    Gang Leaders VS Bounty Hunters

I've just been wondering about this for a while now, but has anyone ever been able to get the bounty hunters to fight against a gang leader in Assassin's Creed Rogue? I've tried, but I just can't get it to happen, so if it can be done, I'd love to see a video of it. Who usually wins?

List of games with replay missions

What list of games allow re-playable mission sequences? I know Assassin's Creed Brotherhood allowed you to replay main missions as well as side missions but I don't know of any others. Does anyone know of other Assassin's Creed games with mission replay available?
