    AC Marathon 2020 - Day 50

Legacy of the First Blade, Episode 2 - 'Shadow Heritage'

Hey there, Assassins! Today we're spending some more time on our ship as we learn about the Tempest. We're still working with Darius and Neema/Natakas in defending the people from the Persians and from the Tempest. In the end, we'll have defeated another member of the Order, as well as developed a closer relationship with Neema/Natakas.

Today's Targets: Fleet Commander, The Skylla, The Tempest, Basket of bread & milk

    ODYSSEY NOTES

Please note, it is strongly recommended to play on New Game Plus. It'll be easier to keep up with the fast pace of the Marathon not having to worry as much about resources, money & gear, and leveling up your character and ship.

During the Marathon, we will be playing the family story, and the First Civ story. We will not be covering the elimination of all the Cultists, only the ones as defeated during the other two story lines.

It is highly recommended to play the Tides of War mission, after the Theatrics & Espionage support quest, to obtain the snazzy Chimera's Breath for our ship. Who doesn't love a good flamethrower?!

I noticed the assassins in Valhalla still have their fingers cut off, seeing as it was before Altaïr.

Why can the assassins speak to individuals after they are assassinated?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:03 PM PDT

Why can our protagonists throughout the series speak to their target after performing a successful assassination? Is there a specific lore title for this type of conversation?

Did Ezio travel to Masyaf as a suicide mission?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:29 PM PDT

In the novel, he took a ship to Acre but then walked on foot to Masyaf because he knew it was going to be dangerous and didn't want anybody to be harmed. He barely packed any supplies and given the letter he wrote to Caludia in the opening, it sounds like he wasn't expecting to come back.

Watch out for AC Valhalla spoilers starting today!

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 11:24 AM PDT

MrMattyPlays just confirmed on stream that he is expecting his AC Valhalla reviewcode today.

Meaning that many others will get to play as well. Watch out for the typical reviewers who go "rogue" in tweets or dicord chats and spoil the story.

Enjoy going into the game blind people!

The change the combat really needs to make it feel closer to the old games without literally reverting is simply more realistic swordplay.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 09:08 PM PDT

The things most complained about for combat is how fights aren't 'weighty', health bars making it feel 'spongey', unrealistic moves, arcade like feel etc.

But to me, what gives it lackluster is the fact that the attacks you do, when connected, would be very gruesome instant kills in real life.

When you do these huge wind up swings, skewer people 5 times over (fury of the bloodline), jumping overhead double handed attacks with a following flurry of attacks - and it connects to pure flesh or right on the skull - and your opponent shrugs it off and keeps fighting, all the weight and thrill of the attack entirely loses its worth.

As they did in the first couple of series, they should implement the sword play feel, that when you attack enemies, their sword comes up to block whilst still bringing their 'health bar' down, sure every couple of strikes let your attack break through and sink in to give the oof feel, not to be an instant kill but a critical hit.

When every hit can land and you don't actually kill them, all the effort to making these animations seem thrilling and fun will always eventually get the lackluster effect.

They can keep their current trope where you can have enemies with huge hp bars, but if the fight doesnt feel real, all of their hardwork to make combat feel more weighty is wasted. This is the problem with odyssey, rightfully described as spongey, it comes down to feeling like you're fighting a health bar instead of a person, humans can't take 20 hits with an axe to the chest and still fight, but a human can fight for a long time if there is legitimate swordplay.

Unless they want this to be an arcade superhero game the current kind of combat shouldn't be in this game.

Imagine the Frontier from Assassin's Creed III BUT made like Origins' Egypt or Odyssey's Greece.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 09:48 AM PDT

I'll be honest I already adore the Frontier and personally think it could've gotten away with being the ONLY map in the game, but it full on expanded and filled with more villages, settlements, civilians etc would be fucking insane. It's something I've always wondered and sorta dreamed of since first playing Assassin's Creed III and frankly Origins and Odyssey, albeit to a lesser extent than Origins, didn't help. 😂😂😂

    Thoughts???

Inconsistency with Ezio arc. How is he unknown?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:33 PM PDT

Apparently according to Shaun, Ezio was removed from history. All that was known is he was apparently hanged with his father.

He owns Monteriggioni, Rome and Constantinople. How is he unknown? He's one of, if not the richest men in 16th century Europe. Put it this way. The Medeci family had around 123,000 florins at their peak and they were the richest family in Italy. Ezio has half that amount at the start of Brotherhood and gains more than that throughout his life. 1 florin is around 140 soldi and the average person in Italy earned around 10 soldi per day as their average wage.

That means 1 florin is worth 2 weeks average wage and Ezio has at least 150,000 florins so how tf is he unknown?

Not to mention everyone in Monteriggioni knew him. He's bought shops all over Rome and Constantinople, they'd know him. I don't understand.

Edit: He also announces he isn't dead in his first assassination in front of a massive crowd. Someone there must have documented it?

AC: Valhalla review embargo lifts on Nov 9th, 3:01 AM Pacific Time

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:39 PM PDT

After today's trailer, I have serious doubts

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 05:21 PM PDT

I don't know whether to play in German or English because both voices sound extremely amazing and well fitting to Eivor. In Origins, the choice was easy because Bayek's German voice didn't really fit and Abubakar Salim did an outstanding job, in Odyssey it was difficult but I stuck with English just because of Melissanthi Mahut's performance (although the German VA was very good as well, especially Alexios' voice) but in Valhalla this seems like an impossible choice

Why did Arno (and the rest of the Assassins) help Napoleon after AC Unity?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 01:42 PM PDT

Napoleon Is basically the villain of the Dead Kings DLC, but we help him in multiple missions that take place after that, and Arno is with him during the ending scene. But why would the Assassins help him, after what he said and did during Dead Kings?

What's a BIG Assassin's Creed related hot take you have???

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 03:15 AM PDT

And no loving Odyssey or thinking Odyssey is great isn't allowed, be more original.

Mine is that Altaïr was trash in Assassin's Creed I. He's a total nothing of a character. Thank God for Revelations and especially The Secret Crusade novel as thanks to both of those he became an incredibly interesting character and my third favourite Assassin's Creed protagonist.

Mythological Cities part of the Isu?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:42 PM PDT

Since the brought in Atlantis in Odyssey, I then wonder on the aspect that every known mythological cities were actually once major cities of the Isu, like El Dorado, Shangri La, Eden, etc. If they were to make a game that takes place during the First Civilization, it'd be interesting to see on how they combine this world, making it a part of Pangea and all there cities will be major populace hubs.

Now that Nioh, Sekiro and especially Ghost of Tsushima were big hits, what do you think will we get Assassin's Creed in Japan this gen?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 02:23 PM PDT

Just finished Assassin's Creed Syndicate and here is what i think.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 05:56 PM PDT

It took some time to make me start liking it but at least it did. The character development was also slow but at the end i liked both characters and especially Evie. The story was just average with no memorable missions. I liked the new zipline thing, it made my parkour more enjoyable than other creed games. There is some replaybility value in this game and its positive. Although the combat system remains boring and dull. In general, all creed games are so similar to an extend level and i think this tires me a bit. But i dont know, maybe its only me who thinks that. Anyway, if i could rate syndicate i think i would give it a 7 or 7,5 out of 10,i am not really sure about it :P.

I am considering play Unity now, since i love history and i like playing games with historic settings and personalities. What do you think?

Can someone summarize the Pieces of Eden?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:21 AM PDT

Can someone give me a brief overview of where the Pieces of Eden have ended up? I've googled this and haven't found any sources that I feel explain it clearly enough for me. I'm pretty clear on the original Apple from the Desmond Saga, and the staff/spear from Odyssey. However, I can't recall much from unity, syndicate and Origins. Thanks in advance for the help and information!

Everyones thoughts on the upcoming AC game?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 11:12 AM PDT

This is the most i've been looking forward to a AC game since AC Brotherhood. Maybe next gen is playing a part in it but i was very impressed with Odyssey and i think the viking setting is a great choice. Ubisoft get a lot of criticism for taking the easy route but i thinkthey are being ambitious with the last few AC games.
