    AC Marathon 2020 - Day 48

Assassin's Creed Odyssey - Cyclops & Medusa + First Civilization Ending - 'Of Gods, Men & Monsters'

Hey there, Assassins! Today we're finishing up the First Civilization storyline as we defeat two more mythological beasts, the Cyclops (not the guy with the eyeball & the goat) and the culmination of the monsters, Medusa. Then it's back to Thera to talk with Pythagoras, and then spend some time as Layla as we complete the main game of Odyssey in the Assassin's Creed Marathon.

Today's Targets: The Cyclops, Medusa, and possibly Pythagoras

    ODYSSEY NOTES

During the Marathon, we will be playing the family story, and the First Civ story. We will not be covering the elimination of all the Cultists, only the ones as defeated during the other two story lines.

I drew Kassandra from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Totally agree with this article, it's about time we got a open world China Assassin's Creed game with Shao Jun as the lead!

The next game should expand on the settlement system and blend it with the Assassin Brotherhood elements of Revelations

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 08:29 PM PDT

In a future game the concepts of the Viking settlement could be used for an Assassin Bureau, like we had in Revelations, but even further expanded. The Assassin recruitment system could return, with recruits being the characters you meet in both main and side quests and sending them on missions could have more impact on the game.

Valhalla seems to have drawn some inspiration from Dragon Age Inquisition with Skyhold and judgements inspiring some of the settlement mechanics. We could also have a system similar to the war table of inquisition in that you'd send your recruits on missions that would open up playable missions, change the dynamic of a location, or even impact the story.

I also really miss the aspect of being a master Assassin or mentor, something that was really only explored in the Ezio trilogy, and to an extent I understand why as the story should ideally develop the protagonist a lot before they achieve that rank, which is why a Bagel sequel would've been perfect for this style of game. Maybe a future protagonist could be a character already established in one of the other games? If anyone has anything to add please do.

Theory: We've been misinterpreting a line of the Creed this whole time

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 11:59 AM PDT

We all know the titular Assassin's Creed:

"Stay your blade from the blood of an innocent, hide in plain sight, never compromise the Brotherhood. Nothing is true, everything is permitted. We work in the dark to serve the light. We are Assassins."

It's that last line that I'm concerned with - "We work in the dark to serve the light". This is most often interpreted in quite a literal way - stay hidden and don't take glory for yourself, as helpfully demonstrated by Altair at the beginning of the series.

However, I have a different theory: What if this line is meant to tell the Assassins to give up their personal happiness to ensure the happiness of others? After all, nearly every Assassin's Creed protagonist has given up something that they hold dear in order to protect the Order and innocent civilians.

Altair: Despite having a family and becoming Mentor, Altair clearly did not die peacefully, as shown in Revelations. Altair gave up his personal peace and happiness in order to work as the Assassin Mentor and protect both the Order and his family.

Ezio: Ezio lost most of his family at a young age - it's very likely that if he had not, he wouldn't have become the master Assassin that we know him as. He also sacrificed the opportunity to start a family, only marrying and having children when he was reaching old age.

Connor: Connor lost his entire family, his tribe, and his home along the way on his journey, all of which led to him becoming a part of the colonial Assassins.

Edward: Edward lost many close friends, as well as his carefree attitude, before joining the Assassins. Given that we see him in London high society at the end of the game, one might also say that he lost the opportunity to sail and be a pirate/privateer, but this is a stretch.

Arno: Well, this one is simple. Arno lost both his father (Whom he spends the majority of the game grieving over), Elise, and his place in the Assassins in an effort to save the lives of innocent people. I'm including Arno because despite being expelled from the Assassins, I believe that he never truly stopped working in line with the Assassins's goals.

Jacob & Evie: Over the course of Syndicate, Jacob and Evie not only lose their optimistic nature towards life, but also their bond with each other - which is, considering their father's harsh training and lack of bond with the twins, a very sad thing to lose.

Bayek: Bayek both lost his son and his wife over the course of Origins. He is also obviously more distressed and unhappy at the end of Origins than at the beginning - he has exacted revenge on his son's murderers, but he has lost much more in the process.

Despite Oddessey having a happy ending (Sort of), I will be discounting it due to Kassandra and/or Alexios having been proven to not be Assassins, and are therefore not bound to the Creed.

It would make sense to me that Valhalla continues this trend. Historically, the Vikings did lose the fight to conquer England. There is also several ideas for things for Eivor to lose - their brother Sigurd dying or their settlement being destroyed are both possible events that may happen during Valhalla that may cause Eivor to fully align with the Hidden Ones.

    Thoughts?

We need an option to skip Modern Day portions in New Game+

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 06:52 PM PDT

Decided to do another run through on odyssey and origins and man are these modern day portions a DRAG. Yes there aren't many but at-least give us the skip option during them when doing a second run through.

I love the addition of New Game+ but I do think this would be a good optional idea. I would imagine the majority of players replay for the game that takes place in the Animus..

    What do you guys/gals think?

How's the series gonna play out, do you think?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 11:03 PM PDT

Many people are speculating about the modern day and past experience plot for the upcoming series, so I thought I'd share my thoughts.

Now, I don't want them to introduce whole new characters. I want them to expand upon the stories of existing characters, both in the MD and the past experiences.

Maybe S1 could be a prologue, focusing on Clay Kaczmarek, and/or Daniel Cross. The pilot episode could be about Vidic and the Animus project .... him welcoming Clay to Abstergo (If the series decides to focus on him instead of Cross) .... giving an introduction of how the Animus works .... Clay diving into the Animus for the first time. The whole season would cover the rest of Clay's story with him going mad in the last episode, and Desmond's kidnapping.

S2 could start after AC3 events and focus on the Kenways with the MD protagonist being an Assassin.

    And so on....

Also, the fight choreography and free-running seemed off in the movie. I want it to be as unrealistic as it is the games cuz that's what being an Assassin is all about.

And lastly, how'd you like for the story to progress? One season per past protagonist or one season per modern protagonist?

A typo in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey lists Nicolas Viel’s death date as 1925 instead of 1625.

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 11:02 PM PDT

So im replaying some older games (on syndicate atm) and I was just wondering where the whole "juno is coming back to life" story line went. What I remember nothing is mentioned of her in origins nor odyssey.

I believe that the best music in the series in "Origins"

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 11:31 AM PDT

I believe that the best music in the series in "Origins"

In my opinion, "Origins" has the most atmospheric music. Egyptian motives mixed with electronics sound just bewitching and magical. I separately downloaded all the music from the game and have been listening every day for more than a month. This does not happen often, when soundtracks can be listened to separately from the game itself. And I consider this an indicator of quality. Who agrees with me that Origins soundtrack is just perfect?

When will Assassin's Creed finally move east?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 03:40 PM PDT

Other than Turkey, that shares Europe and Asia, all of Asia has been left out of the main franchise. Other than Chronicles, it's recieved nothing. There's so much history in Asia to explore. The series has gone way back in history to the B.C period and they completely missed the opportunity to cover Qin dynasty China. They could have also done Feudal Japan and since they are getting all mythological, could have done something with Yamatai.

I don't understand why they haven't touched Asia. It's fresh and it's a historical goldmine.

AC Pirates(mobile game) is it Canon

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 07:16 PM PDT

So over the past year I've gotten really into the AC series In this one year span I've bought Odyssey, Unity, AC 3, Orgins, black flag and I just preordered Valhalla. I'm playing black flag right now and when I was younger I download AC Pirates on my phone and I was wondering is it considered Canon cause Alonzo had dealing with Benjamin Honrigold he even drops him off when he his banished from Nassu but Alonzo is obviously never mentioned in Black Flag and neither is the French guy so is it Canon cause I feel like it shouldn't be since it would create a paradox cause Hornigold was never banished in Black Flag

My Hopes for the Assassin’s Creed Animated TV Show

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 08:59 AM PDT

With the recent announcement of the Assassin's Creed Live-Action TV show, and the subsequent animated and anime shows being produced for Netflix. I'd like to just throw out my own ideas for what I think they should be about, and potentially some evidence to back up my thoughts.

I very much doubt the live-action show will be about any previously introduced character. I'd say that there will be a new historical location and a new modern-day character ala the 2016 movie.

But I'm going to throw out my ideas for the animated show. There has been a lot of talk about the live-action series being an anthology show, as in, each season following a different character and setting. This got me thinking about an anthology animated show, and more specifically an anthology animated show starring our favourite previous Assassins.

See, we have a previous animated Assassin's Creed production: Assassin's Creed Embers. An animated short film which depicts the final days of Ezio Auditore Da Firenze. Thinking about Embers got me thinking about a 2018 Games Development Conference presentation by Jean Guesdon. (I'd found it the day before the announcement, I don't memorise every conference lmao.) At 23:24, he talks about Embers. He says that if they followed the rules of the Animus, they could never tell this story. This is because the animus cannot portray genetic memories after the conception of a child. But in animated form, not tied to the animus, they could.

    See where I'm getting at?

There seems to be some directive from the higher ups at Ubisoft that characters cannot get sequels. Ubisoft wants to have a new character for every game because that means consumers don't have to be caught up with any previous games to buy the new one. That's my theory anyway.

So would a new medium be exempt from these rules? I dunno, maybe. What I think the animated series might be is an anthology where every episode (or few episode arcs) follows an Assassin we know. The potential is very exciting and yes, I am hyping myself up to be ultimately disappointed by the final result.

Imagine Edward and Adewale completing a mission for the Brotherhood in London, Connor maintaining the brotherhood in the colonies where we meet his daughter and see how his life went after the game, Evie and Henry Green in India, Jacob training Jack, Ezio doing I dunno something; his life is pretty well documented, Bayek doing a mission in Greece or in Rome with Aya, Abaaz Mir in India, Shao Jun on the Great Wall, Nikolai during the revolution, Alexios/Kassandra throughout time, Aguilar doing a mission, Arno in the Napoleonic Wars? Arno meeting Connor?

Ok I'll stop, but you get the idea. There's a million stories, especially if you include comics and books and other trans media.

Similar to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it could be is split up into individual arcs that don't have to be chronological. The show being animated would also allow original voice actors to return to the roles that, from what I've seen, they all seem to love and would be happy to return to. Netflix is also happy to have dark and gory animated shows so the writers could tackle any type of plot line. And it could be potentially good marketing to see returning characters?

Anyway, I don't know how to end this. What does anyone else think?

Tl;dr Animated series could be anthology series ala Star Wars: The Clone Wars where we follow all the previous assassins on one off adventures and just, y'know, check in on them, see how life's going.
