AC Origins NG+ feels refreshing as I feel like a Medjay now, not a looter. Posted: 03 Oct 2020 04:42 PM PDT Due to the crafting and economy systems, I was essentially a looter, thief, scavenger, tomb robber, murderer, and animal poacher [essentially a criminal] on my first play just like everyone else who wanted to progress quickly. But now that I have everything upgraded and my favourite gear in the inventory, I can finally take the role of the Medjay: no looting, no tomb-robbing, no senseless murdering of soldiers because they carry precious goods, no killing of animals which are supposed to be protected. It feels like I am finally playing the game as it's supposed to be. [link] [comments]
Why Didn’t Ubisoft at Least Make Desmond into a Subject 16 Type Character? Posted: 03 Oct 2020 11:51 AM PDT I feel like there is so much missed potential by not doing this. In Revelations when the scheduled deletion is happening and Clay (Subject 16) saves Desmond from it, that would have been the perfect moment to capitalize on in later games. Maybe having it so Subject 16 created an artificial construct of Desmond in some way (Like he did to himself), or finding some other explainable story way to do so. In Black Flag you can discover that Subject 16 transferred all his memories to Desmond when he saved him, and it just makes me wish they went down this route even more. The modern story captivated me a lot back in the older games, but it just seems so lacking now. Having Desmond as a mysterious character with an unrecognizable voice or something, providing guidance and cryptic knowledge to Layla would have been an amazing way to captivate or excite us old fans of the series, but also help to provide a connection and understanding of the past games to new players. The combined knowledge of him and 16, the reveal of who he is, puzzles with him (like older games had with 16), Desmond being like a mentor maybe - all would have been so cool to experience and helped to make the modern story so much more interesting. Idk, maybe it's nostalgia for past games , maybe since I'm older now It's harder to get captivated in the new games modern day as much as I did for the old ones - but I just hope they find a way to rejuvenate meaning and make that side of the story as interesting again. Seems like they've hit a wall in terms of not knowing where to go with it, and revitalizing a narrative driver of the story like Desmond could help/could've helped greatly. :/ [link] [comments]
You guys wanna talk about Darby McDevitt? Posted: 03 Oct 2020 03:04 AM PDT Let's be honest, there are 2 key writers for Assassin's Creed. Imma spout my shittier opinions right off the bat: Odyssey and Unity were bogged down by being directionless and I think it's because the series didn't bring back a recurring lead writer with a distinctive style. However for Origins, I enjoyed the writing and I hope to see more from that new guy. Now, Corey May carried the original trilogy on his back and I enjoyed the foundational themes of freedom versus peace, working in the backdrop of history, etc. He created a medieval Syrian spy story and I still see it as fresh and original even in 2020 standards. I slightly expected more of him for Syndicate, but given that Watchdogs 2 appeared around the same time (both Watchdogs and AC then had a huge change in atmosphere) I think it was Ubisoft's executives that were pushing for a more "fun happy" vibe, which is a slight shame in my opinion. I'm glad they let AC return to form, with Origins being a tragic epic tale of shakespearian dimensions (there's literally shakespeare characters in it!). Corey May's work is holy ground for me, except for the ending of AC3, which I absolutely hated. I don't have a problem with Desmond dying (forums expected 3 to conclude Desmond's story), but it felt like it was hurt by strategic decisions by Ubisoft and they didn't manage to tie it with a bow as well as they hoped. Thing is, Darby McDevitt is a perfect successor to Corey May in my opinion. He managed to reprise the original themes and narrative style. He also understood that the present day timeline was tumultuous ground now for angry AC fans and he knew a lot of players groaned whenever they left the Animus (you see them less in this sub but way more in more general gaming forums). What I think is his best achievement is refining AC's emotional weight: Edward's sentimental journey is perhaps the best of all AC protagonists. Revelations is a love letter to AC1 and almost creates a fraternal link between the two first protagonists even if they could never meet, the ending is a great send off. Not only does he respect the foundation that attracted the fans, but his talent for instilling pathos and creating chemistry between characters is there. I'm usually more dissapointed by videogame writing (stuff like uncharted makes me roll my eyes and i spent the whole of gta 5 not worried in the slightest about the conflicts, at this point for anything but Supergiant games I temper my expectations), but damn, I'm really happy Ubisoft trusts McDevitt, and I hope in the future he could even partner with Corey May to keep a harmonious overarching plotline while still delivering strong episodic tales. What are some unintentionally funny moments in AC? Posted: 03 Oct 2020 11:01 AM PDT Moments that didn't seem to be intended as overt display of humor but that you still found hilarious. I'll never forget Cesare's "If I want you to die YOU DIE!!!!" Not only because of his voice cracks but also due to how stupid the decision was, knowing that nearly all of his power resided in the fact that the pope was his dad. [link] [comments]
An optional close camera option for both exploration and combat in Assassin's Creed Valhalla Posted: 03 Oct 2020 12:23 PM PDT For immersive players like me, it brings the danger and realism of the main character and his/her quest to the front. Besides the current camera in combat looks like an isometric Diablo-esque style that has nothing to do with Assassin's Creed as a whole. Recent God of War type camera is more suitable for this type of narrative. As of now, from the gameplay videos I see from the YouTubers, the current exploration camera is quite well in my opinion, if it stays that way as well for combat as well, it's ok. Although I prefer for a closer camera, it looks quite good. The zoomed out camera in combat brings sour taste. Of course the demand is for an option, I don't want to take away the current setting from the people who love it as it is right now. There is an option in GR: Breakpoint as to choose "Close/Far or Dynamic" (which "dynamic" is a mixture of both in exploration/combat situation), so why not in AC: Valhalla? Please make it happen :) [link] [comments]
In your opinion, what was the last truly great AC game and why? Posted: 03 Oct 2020 06:48 PM PDT In my opinion it was Unity. I loved Origins, but ever since Unity the spirit of what constitutes an Assassin's Creed game has been lost to me. [link] [comments]
How do you think valhalla will open ? Posted: 03 Oct 2020 06:33 AM PDT With valhalla now a little over a month away, ive been thinking about how the game will open and what we will see. Loved playing as leonidas and doing the battle of 300 and am hoping for something similar involving ragnar. I would personally love the opening to be ragnars death scene where he is dropped in the pit of snakes but the twist be, the king that killed him was working for the templars. What is everyone else hoping for/ expecting ? [link] [comments]
It would've been a lot cooler if I played Rogue's last mission after Unity's first [SPOILER WARNING] Posted: 03 Oct 2020 07:04 AM PDT I recently found out that Rogue and Unity were actually released the same day but naturally the order seems to be first Rogue, then Unity. Because Rogue is more deeply connected with the previous two games and Unity is next gen and the MD story also suggests this order....blah blah Anyways, I'm just gonna specifically talk about the last Rogue mission and the first Unity mission. If you play in the right order, you're very curious about the Versailles memories but at the end it's just another Assassin you killed and on to the spectacular ending monologue. Then when you play Unity, the first mission is basically spoiled. And to add to that disappointment, Arno doesn't even hunt his father's killer. Now if you play in the opposite order, things are much more interesting. First of all, the events are unpredictable so you'd be more surprised at Charles' death. So Unity's beginning would be much more interesting. Secondly, when you'd play Rogue afterwards, you'd see Arno and get a little surprised at first like "cool cool, so he was visiting Versailles at the same time". But then the real WTF moment comes when you realize Shay's Charles' killer. I don't know why but then it'd be more shocking and satisfying at the same time. What do you think? [link] [comments]
Do you think the assassins have ever fallen asleep in the haystacks before? Posted: 03 Oct 2020 12:45 PM PDT They must be comfortable since the assassins can survive a jump by landing in them. Maybe they make a comfortable resting place. Edit:Ffs Edward doesn't count because he did it fall asleep in one. He was placed in one while he was sleeping. Now if they threw him into one then he literally fell asleep [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Oct 2020 05:05 PM PDT Ok so basically I stopped playing in 2013-14 after AC3 and I recently got a Nintendo switch and saw that they bundled 4 and 5 (BF and Rouge) and I was surprised that they were still moving forward with Desmond's story even after his death. However, when I went to see where that ended up, because surely they would have finished that story after a DECADE! but boy was I wrong. Because everything I have read just seems so confusing and they all reference some kind of major story shift when it comes to the modern-day aspect of AC's story. especially after 6 & 7 ( I think Origins and Oddessy?) So I was wondering if anyone can just help fill in the transitional blank. ( no need for heavy spoilers but I don't mind if it can't be avoided). I mainly wanna know or at least get a sense of the general direction that Ubisoft decided to take that part of the AC story. [link] [comments]

If they ever do another city based game I home they bring back carriages from Syndicate. Posted: 03 Oct 2020 04:06 PM PDT I loved that addition, it added so much, and not just a quick alternative to parkour and fast travel. New means of combat and mission structure, races, not just confined to a rack liken in Origins, and it was just fun honestly. Anyone agree? [link] [comments]

First Play Through - Full Series Posted: 03 Oct 2020 04:05 PM PDT I just wanted to share. I didn't do them in order but I really fell in love with the series. I haven't played PC games regularly since the mid 90s and haven't played console since Sega Genesis... I bought a gaming pc late 2018 because I wanted to get back into it but that's a LOT of missed time. With the pandemic I finally found the down time and started with Origins. Beautiful game, great story, but I knew I was missing a lot of lore. Odyssey was next. That probably got me hooked to be fully honest. It's stand alone and still had enough elements that it kept my interest in the series. I played through all three Ezio stories. Enjoyable, lots of fun, really interesting. Was a little tough at times with a keyboard but definitely worth pushing through. AC3 was the worst but only because of the controls for PC. I had to force through for the sake of the story. The story was fantastic though. Then Black Flag, Unity, Rogue, and Syndicate. All which are impossible to compare. I think I liked the environment most of Unity. The characters in Syndicate (Evie particularly). Rogue was an odd one in terms of feels (I wanted to stab Charles Lee each time I saw him). What a great series! I'm replaying Origins now with all the lore but just got started. Can't wait for Valhalla! [link] [comments]
Help! My rifle just disappeared [AC Rogue] Posted: 03 Oct 2020 07:43 AM PDT After the bit where you get your equipment back from the family, my sword, pistols and rifle were missing. I went to a shop and equipped the first two, but my rifle just isn't there. It's impossible to proceed without it. I've tried exiting the game and the animus, dying, replaying older missions but it's disappeared! [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Oct 2020 10:07 AM PDT I tried to dig up some info about the Sons of Ragnar (feel free to tell me if some info is not correct) !!!!!potential spoiler alert!!!!! -Son of Ragnar, Ivarr the boneless: In England at the time of the game (there is a big chance that he is not physically "boneless", as history leans more towards him being scary because he was mentally "boneless" towards his enemies rather than physically "boneless"). -Son of Ragnar, Ubba: In England at the time of the game. -Son of Ragnar, Halfdan: (aka Hvitserk in the Viking tv show) is in England at the time of the game). -Son of Ragnar, Bjorn Ironside: King of Sweden at the time (and probably wont be in the game unless he is part of the "surprise locations" at launch or part of a DLC storyline). -Son of Ragnar, Sigurd snake in the eye: Danish King at the time of the game (You probably wont see him unless he is part of the "surprise locations" at launch or part of a DLC storyline). PS: Sigurds and Eivors father: "King Styrbjorn of Forberg" was just one of the Kings in Norway. Do not confuse Eivors brother Sigurd Styrbjorn with Son of Ragnar, Sigurd snake in the eye. Sigurd snake in the eye is the Danish King at the time of the game. Sigurd happend to be a common name in Norse culture thats it, no special link about it. [link] [comments]
I want an assassin as hero game. Posted: 03 Oct 2020 10:39 PM PDT Here me out. When I say hero what I mean is an assassin who uses his skills not just to kill the right people but to actively become a public icon who inspires people and gives everyone hope. I know the immediate counter argument is "but that breaks the creed of working in the dark to serve the light" and your correct. That's the entire point of the idea. It could be a story dealing with the themes of heroism and the conflict it has with the brotherhood. The main protagonist wants to be more than a silent protector he or she wants to inspire people, thet wants to give them an icon they don't want to work in the dark. But his fellow assassins are worried quite legitimately of him compromising the brotherhood. The MP is bending, hell breaking a Very important part of the creed but are they doing it for the right reasons? Is that even a question. Obviously none of this means we'd get an assassin with a glowing red cape who smiles for the camera, He's still an assassin in looks and in job description but he's more than that to the people of his city. Plus I just think a hero set in a historical city would be REALLY cool so there's that. [link] [comments]
My ideal Bayek trilogy, 2 games and some details on what the game worlds look like. Posted: 03 Oct 2020 12:01 PM PDT Although I am hyped for Valhalla, my fav time period and Hidden One so far are in Origins, so I am now pouring out my ideas for my ideal Bayek/Amunet trilogy.
The game's story will encompass the civil war of the second triumvirate. The game will have you play mostly as Bayek and have some crucial story parts have you play as Amunet. Bayek will visit Amunet in Rome and then talk about the ongoing Civil War. Aya wants to side with Antony, but Bayek wants to side with Octavian, Bayek knows Octavian is fighting against the Order of the Ancients, but Antony, having beeing trained by Aya, wants the world to burn. Antony also seeks to destroy the Hidden Ones, Aya sees this threat growing in Antony, she then sides with Octavian in hunting Antony and Cleopatra. The main climax of the game is the battle of Actium, where Octavians Legions and Navy successfully force Antony and Cleopatra to flee back to Alexandria. The Order of the Ancients are comprised of roman senators who side with Antony and of course Antony and Cleopatra. Bayek meets up with Amunets crew and sails to Alexandria, he arrives and finds the city under siege by Octavian. He helps Octavian breach the walls, he is happy to know that Octavian gave Amunet a proper burial. Bayek rushes to kill Antony and Cleopatra, he finds Cleopatra dead and sees Antony being Assassinated by Aya who then hugs bayek and tells him that they're roles have been fulfilled. (Bayek still has his own ship) [link] [comments] |
