[AC3 SPOILER] Connor wrote ‘I made a mistake’ under Haytham’s portrait

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 07:51 AM PDT

I finished AC3 for the second time and found an interesting yet heartbreaking detail.

In the homestead basement Connor writes messages next to the portraits of the people he kills. After he kills Haytham he writes 'sakataterihwáhten' which means 'I made a mistake'.

Connor and Haytham both had a very complex relationship and I loved it. If you read the book 'Forsaken' Haytham says he even saved Connor by throwing a small knife to cut the rope he was being hanged on, for me this was mind blowing.

In AC2 Ezio becomes an Assassin and gets the symbol branded on his finger. When Desmond exits the Animus he can be seen holding the same finger that Ezio had branded.

Assassin's Creed Unity has the cleanest and best Parkour Animation.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 05:28 AM PDT

First of all i think the addition of Windows being open in houses and u can enter them and go thru the next window for faster exploration is amazing.

2nd I feel like Arnos Movement to Climbing and just every part of Parkour seems soo clean and feels Real Even Combat Wise Animations are GOLD

Man, why did I wait so long to play Black Flag?!

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 03:18 PM PDT

This game is amazing. I've only played a few AC games: First one, Odyssey and Origins. Never really got interest in syndicate or unity (even though I've heard good things about unity), and rogue never really crossed my mind or want to play it. But decided to give Black Flag a go. And man, am I having fucking blast. I'm only like half way through the main story, and have already close to 100 hours. I love spending a lot of time sailing around, doing battle ships (which btw, legendary ships are hard as fuck, so waiting until the elite upgrades to tackle them again).

Going island to island and getting all collectibles from every place, hunting animals both sea and land for crafting, doing Templar hunts to get that outfit.

Hell, even just grinding battling ships to stack up on rum and sugar to sell it and get rich, I completed the 100000 reales challenge (that's the name for currency right) a while back. Upgrading my Kenway's Fleet and doing those mini battles and missions, everything. And roping from a high point on my ship to the enemies ship and assassinating is real fun.

Now it's the best AC I've played. Enjoying every minute of it. And dreading the point where I'll finish it (even though doing 100% might still take a longer while).

Anyways, just wanted to talk about it.

    Anyone else loves black flag?

Edit: and ok. To be completely honest, I did play Unity on my PS4 (black flag being the only one on PC), but for some reason it ran SO shitty, fps drops everywhere, even the small cutscenes. That I played for an hour and put it down. Even Odyssey and Origins ran just fine on my PS4 slim. I have a trophy addiction, so I love playing game's on my PS4 lol. But didn't want to risk low frame rates on black flag so I bought it for PC.

Assassin's Creed 4's ending always feels so emotional

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 02:12 PM PDT

No matter how many times I finish this game, the end is always so hard to see without feeling emotional. The story telling is so on point in regards to Edwards growth and everyone passing away. It's a great reminder to appreciate what you have before it's gone. What do y'all think?

[SPOILER] Assassins Creed: Origins And Black Flag legitimately scared me to death. What scared you?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 10:39 AM PDT

While I love these games to death, They have actually scared me so bad that I took a break from the AC series.

For Black Flag, What scared me was the whole aspect of the sea. It's so wide and vast, it was a bit too much for me, but I loved it so much that I really want another open sea level.

Also, the whole thing about Bartholomew Roberts, that freaked me out.

Origins, the whole atmosphere scared me. Bayek's history, The desert mirages, Going into pyramids, and how it was so eerie. And don't get me started about that area in the desert where people were seeing lights. That whole cavern scared me, but I loved it.

I wanted to ask you all, what were some moments or themes that scared you in the Assassins Creed Games.

ACV should introduce the maxim "nothing is true, everything is permitted"

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 10:08 PM PDT

Ubisoft Montreal has described this game as a game that transitions the hidden ones into the assassins and the order of ancients into the templars. Nothing is true, everything is permitted was abstant from origins so I think it would make sense for the main thing that turned the hidden ones into the assassins was that doctrine. Haythem kenway has said that the assassins used to possess the goal of peace but later started pushing for freedom. If you look at origins really only has the hidden ones preserve peace while slightly pushing liberty but not majorly. In fact the second most popular AC maxim is probably "we work in the dark to serve the light" which is a lot more focused on preserving peace than liberty, And that was in origins albeit Worded differently "who are ones that work in the shadows for the people? We are" I think it would really work narratively for bayak to start the doctrine about peace while eivor started preaching about liberty. It also confirms what haythem told conner as true.

Old assassin’s creed qualities that should be brought into Valhalla

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 12:13 AM PDT

So I recently bought every assassins creed from 2 to odyssey and after playing through at least half way through each one I've though of something from each game that should be brought back for Valhalla (not including brotherhood, revelations, or dlc) and something that should stay away from it.

Assassin's Creed II Do: give us an arc, I want Eivør to be a completely different person by the end of the game. I'm not saying the cliche immature to mature thing. I just want something to change about them. Don't: make combat and climbing clunky and more frustrating than fun

Assassin's Creed III Do: show us both sides of the story. I want to see what the English are about. I want to get to know the villains as well so the characters can feel more alive and real. Don't: make voice actors speak a language they can't. The Native American in this game is so robotic it was like text to speech. Either get someone who can speak it fluently (which it seems they might have) or don't do it at all

Assassin's Creed a Black Flag Do: make Eivør a friend of these historical legends not because they bump into them randomly. But because they are fellow Vikings who have earned each other's respect through their adventures like Edward and his fellow pirates. Don't: focus so much on one mechanic like the jackdaw that's the others feel lacking like half the missions just being tailing ones

Assassin's Creed Unity Do: bring back the free run up/down mechanic. It made parkour a lot more fun and smooth Don't: make stuff inaccessible because I can't play coop or something

Assassin's Creed Rouge Do: make both sides kinda right and wrong Don't: just switch one side to cartoonishly evil out of nowhere while the other side reveals a bunch of baby kissing noblemen out of nowhere

Assassin's Creed Syndicate Do: give us multiple means of transportation Don't: try to make it hit man, you're Assassin's creed, be assassins creed

Assassin's Creed Origins Do: give our character a real relationship with a family of their own Don't: kill them before we even met them, give us the sad feeling of never getting to see them again the character would feel

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Do: give us a wide range of different armor styles to customize with Don't: make character just decide to follow our character to the ends of the earth like Herodotus

What is your favorite weapon across the entire series? And why? (Connors Tomahawk or maybe something more general like hidden blades)

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 03:23 PM PDT

The first hour of Brotherhood has completely redeemed AC II in my eyes.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 06:47 PM PDT

Let me preface with, I'm new to the AC franchise. I played AC II and Unity simultaneously on the PS4 and had issues with both. Unity had great game play, but the story just felt... flat. Like a wasted opportunity. AC II had a better story, but its game play was the most frustrating experience I've encountered in a video game in a while. And since this post is about the Ezio trilogy, let me say more about AC II.

AC II's combat system is my biggest gripe with the game. It was just incredibly wonky and unrefined. It almost felt like a Final Fantasy-style command system, but without any of the interesting features. So unfortunately, the combat system really soured my experience with AC II. The story itself was interesting (even if the Templars all seemed cut from the same cloth), and I have mixed feelings about the parkour. Ultimately, I finished AC II relieved that my cortisol levels could return to normal.

Then I started Brotherhood, and holy hell. In the first hour, they challenged all of my criticisms of AC II. The combat is much smoother and facilitates more offensive attacks, the graphics are greatly improved, the sound editing is top notch (running across those terracotta roofs in Rome is like listening to a Heavenly chorus), and the parkour is much more fluid than in the predecessor. Honestly, I enjoyed the first sequence of Brotherhood more than everything after sequence 7 in AC II.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of this game.

My AC Marathon experience, and what I want from Valhalla

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 07:42 PM PDT

Long time fan, but this was my first marathon ever, due to having a lot of time on my hands.

I'd like to start by saying I like all the games, each one offers something different, but I think the older games are overrated and the newer games are a massive improvement.

That being said, I'm up to Odyssey right now and I just don't have the enthusiasm for this marathon anymore. Even up to Origins I was so excited to start the next one that I would rush through each game as quickly as I could. I remember liking Odyssey though, and I still do, but this choice nonsense is so draining. Why does every line of dialogue need options? Its gotten to the point that I don't care what I say I just want the cutscene to end.

But this isn't about Odyssey, it's about what I've experienced over each game played in rapid succession, and there's some thing in almost every game that I want to have featured in Valhalla.

    • Social stealth from AC2 needs to come back, I miss the courtesans, haven't seem them since Black Flag.

    • A brotherhood like in Revelations, but instead of giving a master assassin a den, give them a village. Having to defend the village like conquest battles in Odyssey would be better than tower defence too.

    • Playable modern day like in AC3, where you go on actual missions instead of checking emails.

    • A fleet system like in Black Flag, sending out Viking raiders to Paris and Russia would be fun.

    • Assassination missions like in Unity and Syndicate, they were the most assassin-y feeling moments in the entire series.

    • A map like Origins, not too big like Odyssey, but big enough to take a while to explore, with heaps of variety.

    • Combat like Odyssey, but maybe tone down the superpowers a bit. The idea of combat abilities is good, but keep it realistic, teleporting spear magic is a no no.

I think those are the best of each game and if they were combined, they'd make the best assassins creed game possible. But I am realistic, that probably won't happen, so if I was to have one wish, it would be that the Layla story ties in to the Shaun/Rebecca/Bishop story from Unity and Syndicate. That needs to happen, right?

does anyone ever just load up the memory ‘everything is permitted’ in black flag and go on a killing spree?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:49 PM PDT

if you haven't load up the memory 'everything is permitted'. i think it's sequence 11. you run to the beach to stop the spanish attack of the assassins village. your only objective is "kill the spanish captain whose in a ship. if you don't kill him and stay on the beach, guards will just continuously spawn and you can go in a rampage

I wish Bayek’s original outfit in origins was just a little bit different.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 09:18 PM PDT

Now I know ac Origins is old news at this point but seeing as I prefer it to odyssey imo I've been playing it more (on Xbox) recently to get hyped for valhalla and the only two outfits I wear are Bayek's original outfit and his hidden ones outfit. Both are great. I love both, especially the hidden ones outfit, but when I'm in the main map of Egypt I prefer to wear the original. Just a weird thing of mine. But, the orange scarf going down the front and back of the outfit really bothers me for some reason. I wish it was just all white with the red in the belt. I like classic assassins creed colors and there was a perfect opportunity to do that with this outfit. It's just a minor thing that really sticks out to me. What are some other people's opinions on this? And what are some other people's preferred outfits?

Stentor, Makar, and a mercenary walk into a bar...(unfinished quests catch up with you, apparently).

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 06:31 PM PDT

Instead of fighting Stentor in Boeotia, I just ran away during the fight. Apparently, if you run away or fast travel away, his AI tracks you down major roads. So, along with the 3 mercenaries that gets sicced on me in Arkadia, I also had Stentor hunting me as well.

Earlier, I also left the "Drachmae of Romance" sidequest at the Olympics unfinished because killing either side seemed too extreme, and just knocked out the parents. While trying to escape from Stentor and the mercs, I noticed another civilian with a diamond over his head joining the fray and realized that Makar, one of the parents, had somehow healed up and chased me all the way from Elis (but not the other parent??).

I'll probably start a new game+ just to mess around with the system. Already had mercenaries photobomb conversation scenes because they tracked me down but couldn't attack during those scenes lol. I'm curious what overlapping or unintentional interactions anyone else got.

Another view from the parent's side, you can see one of the 3 bounty hunters behind Stentor, who's the one who fired the fire arrow. sorry for the crappy screenshots, I can't find my screenshots in the photomode database and have to rely on xbox screencaps of photomode.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 05:01 PM PDT

Do you prefer Bayek or Ezio? (analysis)

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 07:49 AM PDT

Quarantine and summer gives too much free time, and this is the result: an analysis for two videogame characters that I love, which one did you prefer while playing?

first, their stories are specular of each other, Ezio is a son who lost his father, Bayek is a father who lost his son. Both lose them because of corruption and power hunger, and both decide to avenge them, but they do it in very different ways

Both are traumatized by what happened and have clear signs of trauma, but they are very different people and they deal with it differently. Ezio is a spoiled, rich florentine young adult, who spent most of his life fucking, fighting and having fun with his friends, while Bayek has always been in a role of responsibility towards other people and didn't seem to have ever had a comfortable life. As such, when tragedy strikes, ezio is the one who suffers the most from it, he literally loses his whole world in the span of one day, and his complete confusion is so well represented in AC II, whereas bayek is somewhat more prepared for it, and knows what to do since the start.

Ezio has to learn altruism and selflessness, while bayek already has it in his heart and it shows in how he deals with his trauma. Ezio responds to it by transforming all his pain into anger, and in brotherhood you can clearly see his past personality has been destroyed by the templars and what they've done, he becomes more silent, brutal, cracks less jokes, and at the same time as his old personality is fading away.. he starts to really care for others, and embraces his responsibility to the world, finally understands that his personal vendetta can only heal him so much, he needs a bigger purpose in life

Bayek, on the other hand, is able to set aside his anger, and doesn't burden others with his dark side, he fights the pain by spreading love and helping those in need while still being merciless to those responsbile for khemu's death, it's such a beautiful metaphor and very rarely seen in videogames, a truly adult narrative for the most part. Some say "bayek is too happy for what he's been through" but you have to understand, we're all different in how we deal with pain, and his way of doing it is so beautiful and well adjusted, he shows so much strength even in the face of grief, because all he has to give is really love. Aya is his violent counterpart, "we are pledged to violence", more "selfish" in that she will accept anyone's help to avenge khemu, is less stable in her beliefs but has a clear goal in mind, and seems much more consumed by anger than bayek. (if you didn't get it already, I'm gay for bayek <3)

In revelations, ezio's transformation is complete, he is fully grown into the prophet and has a complete change of personality, he becomes kind of a hermit in his dedication and loses all his ego, both because of aging (declining skill) and emotional maturity, he also seems to start enjoying life again, after decades of torture and violence, finally understanding his place in the universe and how he can do good to others, he's not selfish anymore

When bayek kills flavius, he reveals his deepest fear and his biggest vulnerability: "if I kill him, I lose you forever" (to khemu), that line is so touching and human and it really made me love and understand bayek. For how selfless and loving he is, his vengeance is still a selfish act, as in continuing the violence he can keep khemu "alive" in his heart and he doesn't want to stop it, because he knows once the vengeance is complete, only pain will remain. Aya was the most intelligent in her healing, because she understood that after the vengeance, they would need a new purpose to live and be happy again, while bayek is very much carried by his emotions and his pure heart, and hasn't planned for anything. At the end, he is a tired and pained man, and shows real humility in his decision to disappear and fully become "the hidden one", he doesn't seek glory, his payment is not gold but peace, he is such a pure and positive game character, honestly 10/10 for me it really surprised me how deep he actually was, more like a book character than a videogame one

As for the games they're in, I believe that ezio is also a very good character with a credible development and deep personality, but he has three entire games to shine and grow while bayek has one game, that also suffers from pacing issues from mid-game on and as such has way less opportunity to shine

In conclusion, bayek grew so much on me that I want a sequel, and I will choose him over the two, but it's a very close fight, being italian myself I find it difficult but.. he has won me over with his kindness and pure heart, he is the true father of all assassins

hope you liked this long post, give me your thoughts and let me know what you think of the two characters, maybe bring in another one from the series that you believe was as good as these :)

What exactly WAS the reason the crossbow was removed from AC1?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 06:17 PM PDT

Ok so I think it's common knowledge that the cinematic trailer for the first Assassin's Creed showed that Altaïr did indeed have a crossbow. It's also common knowledge that no such thing is actually in the game because it was removed before launch. Sooo... why exactly was it removed? I keep hearing two different versions of the reasoning behind the removal. One of the reasons why was because it was too OP and made the game easier, alright that makes sense. But there's another side saying that it was removed because it was historically inaccurate, alright. Which one is the real reason though? Also it's funny how if either one of them is true then they completely throw that mindset out the window with both AC2 and Brotherhood.

What are your opinions on AC Rogue?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:40 PM PDT

In my opinion, I loved the game. I loved how it combined the elements of all the previous games into one and I like the twist of Shay becoming/working for the Templars to eradicate the colonial Assassins.

The one thing I was disappointed about was how short the game was because I feel like it could have been a really in depth journey into what being a Templar is like.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the game.
