So... I just realized last week that the Precursor Markings on the Apple of Eden make out the shape of... an Apple.

Been playing these games for 11 years and never caught this until we get a clear shot of the Apple when putting one in the Stelae in Atlantis in Odyssey

Failure to imagine a 20/21th century AC is only a failure of imagination, not proof that it can't be done

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 02:14 PM PDT

The main criticism is that GUNS would ruin the game. Now, this I don't get mainly for a few reasons. First of all, you wouldn't be obliged to use them. Second, you can build a modern-ish game and arrange a lore reason as to why guns are a no no.

Ever played sleeping dogs? You barely use guns. It's mostly hand to hand combat. And it's modern.

But even if you get to use guns, have you played Tomb Raider? That game is pretty much modern AC. Secret organization seeking to control the world by finding artifacts, protagonist that does parkour, knife kills and has a golden sense. Sure, you use guns but why does it hinder the enjoyment?

The other criticism is that OH BUT 20TH SETTINGS ARE SO REPETITIVE, WE'VE HAD SO MANY GAMES.

Really? What open world games have we had in, say, in the nazi Reich? Or any other 20th century cities? Aside from Saboteur, which I should say is a perfect example that AC can be done in a modern city, it even has parkour and artifact chasing.

OH BUT THE 20TH CENTURY IS NOT THAT INTERESTING

What? The soviet union, the first world War, the second, the cold War, the de - colonization, the overseas Portuguese war... So many interesting settings.

ALRIGHT BUT MODERN DAY WOULD STILL BE BORING, AND WE HAVE WATCH DOGS ALREADY

Let me a dress this quickly. WD is far from being a nice replacement of AC. It's his own game. It has no building parkour, and tone wise is very different than AC.

SURE, BUT I HAVE NO INTEREST IN MODERN CITIES FOR AC

Why is that? Sure, if you choose generic modern concrete looking city #23855 for the game, then yeah people get bored. But why not go to Europe? Plenty of modern yet historically looking cities there that seem straight out of the past. Lisbon. Madrid.

You can even go wild and Go to Oceania. Or Africa. Or even go to a more rpg route and set it in the French and Swiss Alpes.

    My point is.

There is an untapped market here. For open world 20th settings and modern ones in different locations than North American cities. No disrespect, New York is amazing.

You don't have to have guns as a primary weapon in the game. But even if you do, what's the big deal?

As long as you have assassins and Templars, their thematic fight for peace plus ethereal Isu, you got an AC game.

Don't write a more modern AC off just because it might seem difficult to pull off.

My view on the AC franchise has completely changed

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 04:25 PM PDT

The first game I ever played in the AC franchise was AC Origins. After that, I played AC Odyssey and then AC 3 Remastered. After playing 3, I became so intrigued by the ac series to point where I avoided videos on youtube that talked about the older games lore because I wanted to experience it for myself. During this....."break", I've had a lot of time on my hands. And fortunately, Ubisoft had a major sale in late March for AC games. So I dropped $60 on AC 1,2, brotherhood, revelations, black flag, rogue, unity, and syndicate. As of today, I have beaten the main story of AC 1 - AC Rogue (currently on unity). Before playing ac 3 remastered, my opinion on the newer ac games was extremely positive, But after going through all these games, I now see why people are so annoyed by the direction Ubisoft has chosen to take the series. Don't get me wrong, I still love origins and odyssey, but these old ac games were golden. I actually understand the frustration now!

One thing I really don't want to see come back in future titles is the mercenaries system

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:21 AM PDT

I saw a lot of post comparing the various titles of the series and talking about what ubisoft did right and what ubisoft did wrong. Around odyssey in particular there have been many discussions, but one thing I have never seen mentioned is the mercenaries. Am I really alone in this or have I just missed the discussions?

From a gameplay perspective, I honestly think that this is the worst part of the game.

As a disclaimer, I only recently found the time to play odyssey (currently at the end of chapter 7, lv40) and I don't hate it. I am enjoying it a lot actually. I agree that it does have some flaws when it comes to storytelling and characters, but I wanna keep this post strictly on the gameplay aspect of the game.

The concept of the mercenaries itself is not completely wrong. I prefer that to having every single guard attacking me as soon as they see me, but I feel that it has been implemented very poorly.

First of all this mechanic increases the difficulty in a bad way. I'm all for making games more difficult but only if there is a reasonable, realistic and still fun way of coming out of the situation you are in. But this is like having a sudden meteor shower falling on you out of nowhere.. Sure it makes the game more difficult but there is not much you can do about it. You can't plan ahead. You can't avoid it. You just have to deal with it.

You can reduce your bounty sure, but it means that you either spend drachmas (which is almost a p2w system), wait that it goes down on its own (sooo funny) or go find and kill the guy who put the bounty out (which slows down the game and the story).

Ok, well, I only have a level 1 bounty. I can deal with it! I will lure the mercenary out, kill him and then go into that fort and complete the miss- aaaand there is another mercenary spawned out of nowhere coming right towards me. Fine, I'll just stay hidden, maybe do a couple of stealth kills in the meantime and wait for them to leave. I mean, there is no reason for them to know I'm here right? I've hidden all the bodies and the guards don't even know I'm here! See? They are leaving! Now I can go in aaaaaand they are coming back. Why are they coming back?? Do I have a tracker on me??

Basically what you end up doing is having to deal with the guards and the mercenary at the same time and (maybe I just suck but) for me this consist in running away, get some distance and start shooting random arrows to fill the adrenaline bar so that I can use the ultra. Not really a fun combat system.

Also, what's up with their levels? I am lv40 and had to deal with a lv45 that literally one shotted me with a flaming arrow...? Maybe that's because I'm playing in hard mode but come on.. It's not like my armor sucks either..

Going a bit out of the gameplay aspect, you could also say that it takes something away from the realism of the game and the story. What prompt me to write this post is a mission that I did yesterday. I won't go into detail, to avoid spoilers, I'll just say I had to kill a member of the cult (one of the king of sparta). He was protected by guards (as it should be), so I stealthly took them out one by one until he was left alone with only a couple of bodyguards. During all this, there were two mercenaries walkin around his house because why not? I mean, who wouldn't let complete strangers with huge swords and a frickin lion walk freely around their house? But the worst part was when I finally got to him. And all the other mercenaries (one of which was the level 45 I mentioned earlier) of course. That was supposed to be emotional. I was going to kill one of the members of the cult that ruined my life. One of the important ones, not some random member. 1v1. Me against him. But nope! There had to be random mercenaries in the middle. I felt completely detached from the fight. It was just a random, annoying fight against random and annoying opponents. I ended up killing the guy, running away from the mercenaries and then coming back to confirm the kill. It totally ruined the mood.

I don't like to complain without proposing a solution so here's what I would do: either remove the system or change some aspect of it. Mercenaries should not know where you are unless they saw you or a body you left around. They should not be able to walk freely inside restricted areas, just like I'm not allowed to. They should compete with other mercenaries to kill me (so basically a free for all fight instead of an handicap match). Reducing my bounty should be easier and more fun to do (no ideas on this honestly). Stop making civilians fight me! I don't want to kill them, but if they walk in front of my arrow my bounty goes up and there is nothing I can do about it.

Anyway, I doubt the devs will read this but I needed to vent and I'm genuinely curious about what others think on the subject. Please tell me I'm not alone

Assassin's Creed movie deserves a second chance

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:42 AM PDT

Assassin's Creed movie has so much potential, but it just has to be in accordance with games. By that I mean, movie has to be mainly focused about story of Assassins set in historical period. Simply, franchise is mostly popular because it is showing history and because its stories about Assassins.. 2016 movie was mistake, because they wanted to bring something different but they weren't familiar with the Assassin's Creed lore, generally. I don't have problem with bringing something new, but you can't go that far, especially if it's first movie. And very important, they should never go again with scenes where they showed past and present at the same time, like mixing them constantly. When it is modern day, show just modern day. When it is past, show just past.
Assassin's Creed includes action, parokour, real and accurate history mixed with some fictional stuffs, great stories about Assassins and Templars. There are a lot of potential locations and potential time periods. What else do you need for a great movie?
I have my idea of what movie could be, but I will write it on another post.

Played every game except rogue and origins, decided to play it after finishing Odyssey left a meh in my mouth. Just killed the first target at the end of Siwa and holy shit the flashback and death scene and all of it Bayek is amazing never seen an AC protagonist with that level of anger!

Hear me out, Assassin’s Creed in Colonial Australia.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:49 PM PDT

I would love to explore the late 1700s/early 1800s Australia - The First Fleet and the abundance of British convicts. It could explore the crimes against the indigenous population. Have the templars scavaging the land of Australia for more pieces of Eden (as the native culture is rich and could play into it). An assassin order could form, that goes against the corrupt English government of Australia that is controlled by the Templar Order

Personally I wanna see a story that explored colonial Australia.

If Ubisoft is going to continue down this RPG road, they should let us choose our parkour style

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 04:22 PM PDT

Similar to how in black flag multiplayer, characters all had different styles of parkour, people should choose how their character moves about the environment, especially if they keep being RPGs. Choosing between Arno's light footed steps, and Kenway's lumbering gait, would be super cool.

Templar/Assassin Stalkers in Revelations vs Rogue

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:16 PM PDT

Since I'm currently replaying Revelations, I have to say how terrified of the stalkers I am. The moment I hear whispering, or the music I honestly sh*t myself. I was eating a sandwich and had left it on, when a stalkers came up behind me. I literally dropped my sandwich and grabbed the controller as quickly as possible.

In Rogue, however, they're just annoying, frankly. 'DeAtH fRoM aBoVe!'

The Curse of the Pharaohs is a gem [SPOILER]

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:24 PM PDT

I know that it's probably been said a thousand times on this subreddit but for one, I'm not that active here and two, I'd like to express my feelings anyway.

This DLC is magnificent; not necessarily in its game mechanics (which are upgraded but not vastly superior to Origins') or storyline (which is great, but not groundbreaking). Its magic lies in immersion; you can feel that it was made with love, care and and an ever-present attention for detail.

As a history geek myself, I can't even begin to tell you how many times the game put a smile on my face with its hidden references and Easter eggs. Just to say an example: the gigantic serpent skeleton in the Duat is called Apep, which is the ancient Egyptian deity of chaos and whom Ma'at has slain to bring justice onto the world. The intertwined narratives of all the different pharaohs and their representative underworlds are exceptional too. Not to mention how well they wove the Amun-Aten debate into their magical setting.

I could go on and on for days...

ACIII is my first AC game and I’m lovin’ it!!

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:36 PM PDT

Just got ACIII last week for switch and didn't know what to expect. I heard that switch is by no means the 'best' system to play AC on, and that III isn't the AC to play if you're first trying out this series, but I gotta say that I'm blown away. I love this game!! Playing as Connor's father was interesting and fun, then playing as Connor and getting to see his childhood and journey that led him to become an assassin was fantastic! Just got Connor's assassin robes so I'm by no means very far, but looking forward to the incredible journey that awaits.😁

Origins: Why am I playing as Aya in Alexandria?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 10:53 AM PDT

When Cleopatra is trying to sway Caesar, Bayek and her have to go to the fort to save the emissaries. Since Bayek is right with me, why am I playing as a very weak character with no abilities, upgrades, or good equipment. I'm aware that she is the last character in Rome, but Bayek is not there so I get it. I would have no issue playing as her if she had changeable (or just not shitty) equipment and abilities. She takes so much damage and does so little. Was anyone else confused as to why I'm playing a weak character that is not my own, when the guy I've put work into is literally right there fighting next to me?

I would love to play as Aya as Evie was in Syndicate, and I think they really missed an opportunity there as Aya is awesome. Just let me customize and upgrade her!

I only recently began playing AC Odyssey because of lockdown and I really enjoy it, however I find myself constantly exploring the world and visiting every ? on every island which is my level. Currently I am level 26 and about to do the level 19 mission (I think) where I go to Argos to find info about the whereabouts of Alexios's mother.

Should I be visiting all of these landmarks or focus more on the story?

How I Beat All The Legendary Beasts In Odyssey In One Hour

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:32 PM PDT

Disclaimer - Minor Spoilers for The Daughters of Artemis questline (just the Beasts and their locations really).

First off - make sure that you're well equipped armour-wise, own the Second Wind ability (levelled to the max if possible) and master the dodging skill. You'll obviously be dodging a lot in these fights, as most of the beasts are always charging at you with things ranging from tusks to antlers to paws. I'll elaborate further about every beast below.

Second - stock up on wood and get yourself the sturdiest bow you have. This one goes without saying but you'll need a good bow (I personally used the "Hades Bow" because of the bonus Fire Damage) and make sure to have "Auto Refill" on, which stocks you up on arrows without having to do it manually, after they run out.

And lastly - this is more of a personal preference, but some seconds where the beasts stagger are precious. For that you need speed, but also range because they recover quickly. I used spears, but staves are also viable. You can do any weapon really, but these 2 in my opinion are the most efficient but again - if you manage it with a heavy blade kudos to you, I myself couldn't have done it.

I'll be listing the fights in the order I beat them and give you some tips to make your battles just that bit easier.

    • Pre-Trial: The Kalydonian Boar •Recommended Level: 20 •Location: Sacred Lands of Apollo in Phokis •Tips & Tricks: So a confession, I cheesed this battle. In the Boar's cave there is a small ledge, that is somewhat difficult to get on but the Boar can't reach you there, nor any of the baby boars it spawns. From there on just shoot it until it's dead and while you're up there take care of the babies as well (to make your life easier). Here is a video on how to get there: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NL205h9eXy0 .
    • Trial 1: The Constellation of Kallisto / Kallisto The Bear •Recommended Level: 37 •Location: Golden Fields in Arkadia •Tips & Tricks: In my experience, this was probably the easiest fight of all the Legendary Beast battles. Kallisto is alone and all you have to do is dodge every time it enters into the charging animations. Kallisto is also pretty slow, and when it stands onto it's back legs (to hit you with its front) you have a good opportunity to shoot it a few times. Overall, at least for me it was easy and took me around 5-8 minutes.
    • Trial 2: The Erymanthian Boar •Recommended Level: 38 •Location: Erymanthos Foothills in Elis •Tips & Tricks: I hate boars. If you're anything like me you despise them too (before learning of that ledge in the Kalydonian Boar's cave, I tried to kill it the legit way like 7 times before giving up and cheesing it). So I have a tip for this guy as well - the nearest viewpoint is in Elis. Teleport there, kill a few civilians (I'm sorry virtual innocents, RIP) and get the mercenaries to spot you. Then lead them to the Boar's swamp and let them do the dirty work - not only do you wipe out a few mercenaries, but kill this damn Boar too. It's cheap, but it works. In my case 2 mercs were enough, if you need any more just take a few more innocent lives (sorry virtual Greeks) and you'll be good to go.
    • Trial 3: The Hind of Keryneia •Recommended Level: 25 •Location: Artemision Point in Euboea •Tips & Tricks: Nothing too much to say about this one. The Hind, majestic as it is, tries to trample you, antlers forward and all. It gets its antlers stuck in the ground, and that's when you really can strike and do some good damage. Just dodge and try and get some space so you can snipe it from afar. Now the hitbox on this one is very finicky so aiming is harder, body shots are your best bet. If you try aiming for headshots, most of the time your arrow will fly between its antlers and you'll get antlered in the face. Despite everything, still a generally easy fight.
    • Trial 4: The Kretan / Cretan Bull •Recommended Level: 33 •Location: Fertile Battleground in Messara •Tips & Tricks: The Bull is basically a slightly more aggressive version of the Hind fight. I started this fight on horseback, but this isn't viable in the long run. It's good for getting a few arrows in, but it catches up to you and knocks you off the horse. Dodging really is key, here perfect dodges are the perfect opportunity for a good heavy attack. Watch out for when it goes crazy and starts kicking with both sets of legs, like when you're on a mechanical bull. That does a lot of damage, dodging it is easy though. Just watch out, as you're a matador in this fight. This fight I'll rate a medium, because the bull is really unpredictable.
    • Trial 5: The Krokettes Hyena •Recommended Level: 39 •Location: Skandeia Bay on Kythera Island •Tips & Tricks: Nothing too crazy about this fight. The Hyena is a new type of beast though, as to my knowledge outside of this fight there are no hyenas in the game. It's basically a bit more radical wolf-type of enemy. It's taunting cackling was weirdly refreshing and somewhat creepy. Even if this fight was just basically a wolf, I still enjoyed it - probably it's my favourite behind the Hind fight (and both are based on looks mostly, as the mechanics are mostly the same between the types of beasts). The Hyena is all alone, as I said, don't think there are any hyenas in the game in general so it's easy but it can turn sour, if you're not careful and don't dodge properly. I would class it as a medium fight as well.
    • Trial 6: The Lykaon Wolf •Recommended Level: 36 •Location: Dioskouroi Peninsula in Lakonia •Tips & Tricks: Now this fight, for me personally, was the toughest beside the Boars (I did try without cheesing them but I decided against it in general as they were unfairly hard, especially the Erymanthian one). It isn't that much the Wolf itself, but the fact that it just howls and like 6 normal wolves come at you all at once. It also has a nasty bite attack, which if it succeeds in biting you it basically pulses with a faint glow and bites at you again. It stuns you and it's hard to dodge, so watch out for it. It also (I think) can chain it indefinitely until you're dead so that sucks. Like the Hyena it has a jump attack which is dodge-able and you can get some damage in if you do a perfect dodge and time slows down. So yeah - tough fight, but with some luck you can kill the Wolf without too much trouble.
    • Trial 7: The Nemean Lion •Recommended Level: 25 •Location: Sinkholes of Herakles in Argolis •Tips & Tricks: The fabled Lion, is the only one beside the Kalydonian Boar, that I have heard about before going into it. If Herakles himself can do it, who's to say that I can't? Anyways, before going into the arena I suggest taking out the other lions with the bow. I think there's only like 2 or 3 and it'll make your life easier if you kill them before getting into it. For me it wasn't that hard - like all of them, keep your distance and utilise your bow. Don't try to melee the Lion while it's roaring, it'll just push you back and if you don't come to your senses quickly it can bite/scratch you and do some damage. Here perfect dodging is also key. (Side note: my fight was harder difficulty, because a mercenary from Elis' massacre was passing by and not only did I have to kill the lion I had to duck to not get hit by the poison arrows. Not really that fun, but I still succeeded so everything's okay there.) This fight, in my opinion is a solid medium/hard (if you're not careful enough).

PS. Disclaimer - despite the way I class fights, all except the Boars I beat on my first try. The Kalydonian Boar took, as I said, like 7 times and I died once on the Erymanthian Boar before getting the idea with my helpers - my fellows misthios-es. I also did all these fights at levels 63/64 so keep that in mind.

Thoughts on the morally "good" characters in Assassin's Creed Origins

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:07 AM PDT

I've just finished the campaign for Origins, and it is amazing. I feel that, indeed, Bayek deserves a sequel. In the campaign, I've had to kill two members of the Order of the Ancients that I didn't want to because they were good - not narratively good, but morally.

(Edit: I've added spoilers for those who haven't played AC Origins)

    1. Khaliset (the Hyena) -- she wasn't really a full member of the Order, because she didn't really follow the ideals, but something like a pawn. When I killed her, I sympathized with her, since she only wanted her daughter back, even though she killed countless people for it. I think even Bayek sympathized with her - he felt how it was to lose a child. The way she screamed for daughter as the hyenas pulled her away at the end of the Memory Corridor scene was sort of heart-breaking. Also, I have to say, Mouna Traoré (the voice actor for her) was really talented! She wasn't really a morally "good" character, but because her reason for being in the Order was not for total domination, I had to put her here.
    2. Pothinus (the Scorpion) -- he was the only Order member who felt that violence wasn't needed unless it was essential. He knew where the boundaries were before going too far (like the day Khemu was killed in Siwa). As a major player in Khemu's death, he actually apologised to Bayek in the Memory Corridor, and accepted his defeat and fate. He was the only one with morals, and I sort of felt that, if I had a choice to kill or spare him, I would spare him and let him go back to Rome.

Odyssey Mercenary Lieutenants die very quickly, is it a bug?

I have dozens of legendary Mercenary Lieutenants and I was testing to see which ones are the strongest. From my tests, these Lieutenants tend to die extremely quickly in "Call to Arms" combat, like under 5 seconds from 1-2 shots. This is in stark contrast to the legendary Strategoi (or other soldiers) I've recruited from forts, or from other Lieutenants like Drakon, Stentor, etc.

Basically as a result Merc Lieutenants are unusable from my experience. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a bug?
