I honestly believe Bayek might be one of the best written characters in any game

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 06:55 PM PST

I'm replaying AC origins and everything about him is so deeply fleshed out.

It seems like every part of this game was built around him. The amount of side quest and cutscenes that build up who he is unbelievable and every animation and is purposeful and shows the player what he is feeling in such a clear way.

I love that you can see pure rage take him over until he is on the verge of snapping. But then there's the other side of him that lights up around children and can be so welcoming and playful.

His interactions with other characters are so well done too. You can tell when he is genuinely happy or mad, or when he's putting on a act just because he knows that he can't show his true feeling to that person.

I could go on forever but it's such a breath of fresh air to see so much love put into a character.

PSA: Assassin's Creed 1 is less repetitive on PC

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 02:44 AM PST

A common and valid complaint about this game is how repetitive it is, but this is because most people played it on console. Console version has 5 types of investigations while PC almost doubles it with a total of 9:

    Console investigations:

    • Eavesdropping
    • Interrogation
    • Pickpocket
    • Informer assassination
    • Informer flag challenge

    PC exclusive investigations:

    • Informer escort
    • Archer stealth assassination
    • Merchant stand destruction
    • Rooftop race

Highly recommend playing this version if possible. Only potential issue is controllers not being recognized properly but you can find fixes on PCGW.

Weirdly obsessed and addicted to Origins

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 09:33 AM PST

Have not played a AC game since Black Flag (gave Unity a try was not my cup of tea). Loved black flag but was over the franchise and moved on to other things. The thing is, when Origins first came out it kept pulling me and I kept saying I have to try this game soon but for some reason other games kept taking my attention away.

Fast forward to 2019 Steam Black Friday sale I get the game for $20 and start playing on new gaming PC. I haven't been this immersed and felt such a strong connection to a protagonist in SUCH A LONG TIME. I remember those games I would play back in the day that would make me think about it all day at school and make me feel happy/excited to play when I get home. AC Origins gives me this feeling. I love Bayek, I love the open world, I love the combat, graphics, story, mechanics. I know old AC fans don't like newer games ( it's kind of trend with big franchise fans to hate everything that comes after the originals) . I still adore Black Flag and it has been my favorite up until this time but Origins will give it a run for it's money.

I'm sorry if you were a big fan of AC 1,2,3 but you can't keep living in the past. Just wanted to voice my appreciation for this game after lurking in this sub for a little bit. Planning on trying Odyssey next but for some reason I don't feel like it will give me the same satisfaction as Origins or BF.

EDIT: Just to expand on Unity, it was actually Unity and Syndicate I was playing around the same time that turned me off from the series. Syndicate was the last straw.

    Is Odyssey worth getting now?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 11:29 PM PST

It's on sale now for 30usd (converted from local currency) for the gold edition. Thoughts? I have completed all the previous ac games and I rank Origins quite highly. Is this very similar to Origins?

Odyssey's Modern Day Ending Does Not Make Sense

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 05:32 AM PST

    Odyssey spoilers ahead.

I've searched around and I haven't seen anyone mention this before, and I'm kind of shocked honestly.

I had waited to post this until I finished The Fate of Atlantis expansion, which I only wrapped up this weekend, incase it addressed my issue. But it does not.

Odyssey's modern day ending doesn't make any sense.

I'm speaking about when the Eagle Bearer hands the Staff over to Layla.

At the start of the game Layla chooses either Alexios or Kassandra as the avatar she will inhabit within the simulation. Now, people have addressed a few points about how this is a little nonsensical. If the Animus is able to show us accurate events, like the Eagle Bearer owning the Spear, watching Phoibe die, or fighting Medusa and the cyclops, why can it not tell you whose memories those are accurately? Where the Animus would once fall out of sync for many reasons, it can now extrapolate off of decisions made hours (in-game months) ago. And what would be the point of allowing and then following along with such extreme differences, when usually the Animus is used to determine what actually happened?

But still, ultimately the Animus is, like a video game itself, a simulation, and can thus show whatever the programmer wants it to, really.

At the end of the day, though, history only happened one way, yet at the end of the game whichever person Layla chose to be the Eagle Bearer will be the one that meets her in real life.

How does this make sense? Is it some Isu artifact trickery? Why didn't they address this?

Could Desmond survive any fall damage?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 10:44 PM PST

It says so in the AC wiki, but I don't recall seeing this mentioned in any game.

    Where is that coming from?

    Origins. Better after playing Odyssey.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 05:47 PM PST

The voice acting, the landscape, the not hard to follow characters, the better storyline.

    There i said it.

Now that time has passed and any rose-colored glasses are wearing off, what are your thoughts: Origins vs. Odyssey

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 02:06 PM PST

I booted up Origins for the first time since Odyssey came out, and I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but I am really enjoying Origins much more than Odyssey.

Maybe it's the lack of dialogue options, which I disliked in Odyssey. Or the desert landscape which I find much more beautiful and mysterious than Greece. Or perhaps the toned down RPG elements that don't really fit the franchise. Maybe the smaller (but still huge) map?

Something about Origins (my favorite in the series, I've come to realize, next to the Ezio trilogy and Black Flag), is just so much more enjoyable than Odyssey.

    What are your thoughts?

Please explain the Assassin/Templar conflict to me

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 03:46 PM PST

Black Flag was the first AC game I played, so I didn't have much prior context. The impression I got was basically:

    Templars = self-important elitists.

    Assassins = self-important cult.

I then played Syndicate, and it just boiled down to Templars = Evil, Assassins = Heroes.

On the one hand people who want control over mankind are exactly the types who shouldn't have it, and on the other the Assassin's seem to solve every problem, up to and including missing socks, with stabbings.

Just how old are the organisations in-universe, and what exactly are they fighting for? Because I didn't get much of a feel for ideology in Syndicate.

I hope the next Modern Day will have no time skip

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 01:57 PM PST

It was so bad in Odyssey when you experience that a year has passed since Origins MD and Layla had done so much awesome stuff only offscreen... how should we made bound or feel with this character when we couldn´t follow up his story? I am really worried that the next Game will do the same. Does it give a good answer why the MD needs to be in the same year as real time since AC3?

Hypothetic mechanics in a hypothetical AC: Kingdom/Vikings...

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 12:08 AM PST

I would ask for two features after playing Origins/Odyssey back to back. I would also like to add that history in all three of these settings are considered "dark" or lost to history.

I would ask for a camera toggle feature, similar to Rockstar's latest games. Something like 1) close shoulder view 2) wide back coverage 3) wide scape/horizon coverage 4) Eagle Eye coverage. This would definitely help in pacing your own action, and covering your ends.

I would also ask that instead of conquest battles that so many people talk about (hahaha) Town Raids would be more fitting, as violent robberies are more applicable than war.

Maybe a customizable homestead, where you can open shops to cycle in more money, and hide all of the takeaways from robbery. As if your homestead is isolated from other towns.

Mechanics to keeps players going, and that have a functioning relationship with the typical mechanics we're already given.

    AC Rebellion Legacy Heroes?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 11:35 PM PST

People are saying game protagonists like Connor aren't being added to the game because they aren't in the same time periods as Aguilar and Ezio (Renaissance). BUT shau jun became a master assassin/leader after ezio's death/ during his last years, so this obviously is flexible.

Also this theory makes no sense as Alexios, Kassandra, Bayek and Altair have been added into the game through helix events, why can't we have any other protagonist assassins? Any theories?

Silly Idea Regarding the Vikings game’s story

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 06:23 PM PST

I don't know exactly when in history this next game is going to take place, but I'm gonna assume it's early during the Viking age around 800 ADish. So me and a few friends were talking about the game and I have a fantastic (and balls-out crazy) idea to share. What if in the game, the protagonist finds an Isu artifact that points them towards another temple in South America, and they're like wtf what is that place?, and they take off across the Atlantic, and the NEXT game, the same protagonist is there with some assassin buddies, but it takes place in Mesoamerica, and it's about the fall of the Mayans and they were wiped out by another isu artifact?!? (Ignore the fact that we kinda know what happened to them lol)

Doing main questlines VS exploring/side missions (SPOILERS) - AC Odyseey

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 06:05 PM PST

I really take my time and like to do everything. So I've been at around the Kings of Sparta part of the family story for a while just exploring and doing side quests because I've heard some are missable. I've also met my real father and I'm in the process of hunting the mythical creatures (which I've halted aswell). And I've been killing the cultists as they come (3 lieutenants down). The only places I havent explore now are the 4 islands on the top right corner (Thasos, Lemnos, Chios, and Lesbos). Also, I'm level 57 if that matters.

    I have a few questions:

    1) Will any side quests on those islands disappear if I progress further in the family questline? (without spoilers please)

    2) And I've been curious, do new side quests appear by progressing in the story or are they all there from the start?

    3) Should I wait to do the blue exclamation point quests until after the main quest or does it not matter?

    Thanks for the help.

Gameplay differences between Origins and Odyssey?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 06:12 PM PST

I just got the Origins Gold bundle with all the DLC on sale for $25 instead of $100. I figured since I loved Odyssey, and it's such a good deal, I might as well get it. What are some differences in gameplay from odyssey that I can expect?
