Heads up! For tackling tomorrow's sequence, we'd strongly recommend upgrading the following:

    1. Hull Armor - Level 2
    2. Broadside Cannons - Level 2

The Modern Day segment at the end of Sequence 06 will be included in our Discussion for Sequence 07, as it is much more linear and allows for less opportunities to do side content (as you are stuck in Nassau for the entirety of it).

Can we get shields back if it’s going to be a Viking game?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 10:28 AM PST

No more sacred blood broken demigod weapons, at least if there are make them optional. When odyssey was announced I was disappointed to see no shield for Alexios/Kassandra as shields were such an important part of combat in the ancient world, and with all of the cool sigils that could have been on them. With the Viking game you should have an option at least, if they don't it'll really just be stupid as the Viking weapon of choice was a round shield and axe.

I can't help wishing we could go back to the old AC gameplay formula, with less rpg elements and counter-based combat

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 06:33 PM PST

Now, I know this has been discussed a thousand times already, and I understand if people are bored with the topic. Just really want to get this off my chest as someone who cares about the franchise.

We all know the last 2 AC games in particular (Origins, Odyssey) changed a lot about the original AC formula that had a combat system based on counterattacking, no healthbars on enemies, no level system nor any unlockable skills and minimal character customization that, for the most part, only included simple outfits and weapons. For example the Ezio trilogy, AC 3 and AC 4 followed this quite unique formula. And I think "unique" is the keyword here.

The smooth, free-flowing combat combined with the compelling simplicity of the environment and gameplay, that still had a great deal of depth to it when properly explored, were part of what made the game so special.

Unity and Syndicate certainly changed up this formula even before the two most recent games, but still managed to keep it unique and different from the other open-world singleplayer releases of the time.

Then came Origins followed by Odyssey. Both great games in their own right, and loved by many, with just one, painful problem: they really don't feel like Assassin's Creed to those who have the older games in fresh memory. I know this may seem like a terrible argument. Change can be refreshing and bring new fans to a franchise, and the new, more in-depth rpg system and combat influenced by Witcher 3 was indeed polished and well implemented. At the same time, that's precisely what makes me worried. AC honestly doesn't feel as unique as before. It's a solid singleplayer rpg with a great storyline partly connected to a bunch of assassins. Appealing to new players, but if you're addicted to the uniqueness of the older ACs, like me, it just feels slightly dull.

As much as I still love the franchise, I can't help thinking that it has lost part of its identity. Maybe I'm just too stubborn or intolerant of change on this matter, I really don't know. What do you think?

Are all assassins eagle bearers like Alexios/Kassandra?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 11:50 PM PST

Eagles are always prevalent in the series and sometimes even are used for symbolizing the assassins' presence and for these reasons (below this) i'm confuses why odyssey is the only one where the character you play as actually has an eagle.

If you squint at it, the assassins' insignia kinda looks like an eagle's beak (idk maybe just me it's obviously the hood)

The "leap of faith" has the assassin spread their arms like an eagle and you can hear the distant screeches of an eagle

In assassins creed unity eagles fly around the view points

    Many other reasons

I ask, is there any assassins who are eagle bearers?

Playing through the full series again is making me fall in love with assassins creed all over again

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 02:10 PM PST

Currently on black flag on my quest to finish every game before the release of the new game which I assume will be out in late 2020, with all of the drama and hate going into the newer games you forget how good they all were in the series we love. Yes the games have their flaws but don't let it ruin the story and characters that make us all love assassins creed

Just watched the trailer for AC2 for the first time and I am blown away!

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 01:55 PM PST

I was replying to message on Facebook, my game on its loading screen, when the game trailer started to play. I immediately stopped replying and was captive. It was so awesome! I didn't play the game when it first came out and only played it later. Somehow, I avoided any trailers for it? Whatever the case, I wish I had seen that trailer when it was released. I would have been about 15 or 16, and it would have rocked my world!

    Why is AC2 so good??

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 08:06 AM PST

I can't figure out what it is. Brotherhood is technically an improved version, as it as horse combat, crossbow etc, but brotherhood got boring for me pretty quick. Same with revelations. For some reason AC2 keeps me enthralled. The storyline is good, but really I can't put my finger on what it is that makes this game so enjoyable. Sometimes they just get it right I guess.

Are the games becoming to long?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 10:33 PM PST

like I feel like in my personal opinion origin and odyssey have done a great job at propelling assassins creed into the future and improving the gameplay tremendously.

With that out of the way. They really need to make their games smaller and shorter.. every assassins creed game before origins was perfect length 20/40 hours. origins and after though what usually was the most you could get out of these games is the bare minimum you have to put in to be able to even beat them. it is exhausting to me personally to play a game for that long especially when you are in a realistic setting for the most part with very few non human enemies, thereby reducing the variety you have in the gameplay.

The skill tree's and rpg mechanics help, but unfortunately to me personally I really do not feel like the game play supports that much game time.

Let's talk about the mobile game: Assassin's creed Rebellion

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 12:17 PM PST

I downloaded the game app a few days ago, and so far, it has fun.

There are the usual complaints about mobile games: spamming microtransactions everywhere, needing an internet connection or the latest version to play. It's all frustrating to say the least.

Sometimes mobile games feel generic, a silly game with a well-known skin that brings in the money. Rebellion is not different from other mobile games, and brings nothing new to the table. More an RPG mini-game than anything, AC Rebellion misses the historical details that had grown to be a core part of AC. However, not everything needs to be something I buy for 70 bucks and sink 100+ hours in. It satisfies my itch for something AC.

And there are fun sides too. The game mechanisms (RPG) are easy and fluid, and the game is a nice way to add a little background to a lot of characters. So far, I didn't feel like I had to spend money to progress in the game (and I don't plan to). While there are waiting times, they didn't struck me as annoying. In fact, letting the characters be "busy" in your base is almost cute to watch. It's far from the level of main AC games, but it's nice to sink some time in, collect DNA fragments of favourite assassin's, and read their bio to learn something new.

Any of you that played it? What did you think?

I just started playing Assassin's Creed Rogue yesterday

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 05:37 PM PST

And I love it! This is my first time "owning" an Assassin's Creed game so I was wondering, are most of the games like this? (I put owning in parentheses because I think I got it on game pass but I can't remember and it's not there anymore) I've played a little bit of Black Flag before and it seems similar to this game

More scripted quests/memories for future AC titles.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 02:29 AM PST

This lacked very much in Odyssey and feels sandbox every moment, just complete the quests and carry on. I want future games to be more like AC 3 where there's ton of scripted missions, battles, childhood memories etc

A completely different, yet still familiar idea for the franchise

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 08:32 AM PST

How would you feel if instead of exploring ancient ancestors from hundreds or thousands of years ago, you explored much closer relatives in an AC game, such as one of your parents or grandparents? I think this would have a lot of benefits, a smaller one being it would be cool to have a game set within the last 50-100 years, or across decades like 40s, 60s, 80s all in one story.

The greater benefit in my opinion, however, would be uniting the modern-day story and animus stories, as well as incredible story potential. You could have a son who's father was never around and his entire personality, life and decisions all have been defined by his resentment towards his lack of his dad, then gets kidnapped by the Templars, similar to Desmond. They use the protagonist to access the memories of his father, live through his life, his journey towards and with the assassin's order, him leaving the assassin's order to create a family. For about 5 years, he's a good father and a devoted husband, making sure his family live comfortably, taking his wife on dates and bringing his son to their version of central park, sitting on a bench and feeding the ducks.

That's the first half of the game, but in the second half he's inevitably drawn back into the order to prevent some world-ending templar plot involving a Piece of Eden that was to be used to destroy a major city, maybe one his family was living in So he leaves his son with his wife and parents, and reverts to an assassin. Once the plot is fully prevented, he had planned to go back to his family, but he became hunted by the templar, their enemy no.1, and so he cannot return because that would put his family at risk. He returns to his wife, only to say goodbye, and then disappears. So over the years, he moved across the world, a different city every month, protecting the Piece of Eden from the Templar plot. This is why they need the son, to find out where the father hid the Piece of Eden.

Once every year, he came back to his home city where his son was still living, growing up and he watched over him. Leaving presents for him, protecting him, loving him from the shadows, despite knowing his son could never see it. He breaks this annual pattern once, however, to see his wife in hospital during her final moments, holding her hand and telling her it will be okay, which could affect the son as he missed his mother's death and has been traumatised by the fact she died alone when she never did. Of course, his son now understood why his father left his life, that in a way he had never left it, and that he was loved by his father.

At this point, he wants nothing more than to find his father, to say thank you and sorry and connect with a father he now finally understands, but the templars make him keep going. The Animus keeps reliving memories until a day or two before the modern-day story begins, his father still on the run but is now visiting his home city for his son's birthday. He's watching his son when suddenly he sees templars coming towards his son. He comes out of hiding, and attacks the templars, preventing his son's capture (for now), but is fatally wounded by doing so (which allowed the templars to collect his DNA), ending the Animus memories.

The son, due to a small amount of the bleeding effect, escapes the templars and rushes into the city to look for his father. He goes to of his father's hiding spots but he's not in any of them. His father is dead, he couldn't have survived those wounds, and so to commemorate him, he goes to the park his father used to bring him to as a child. When he gets there, however, he finds his father slowly dying. He explains what happened with the Animus, that he saw all of it, that he understands why his father left and that he loves him. The son tries to get his father to a hospital, but his father doesn't allow him to try, and instead let him die peacefully in the park with his son he loved so very much and a son who finally knows that.

A criticism of the games I always hear is either there isn't enough modern-day plot, or the modern-day plot sucks, one or the other. So mixing together the animus plot and the modern-day plot would mean both plots get enough screentime, both directly involved with each other, and the story and emotional potential generated is tremendous in my opinion, as well as being different from yet also the same as the existing franchise. The story above is just a skeleton I wacked out in about 30 minutes once I thought of mixing modern and animus plots, and it's the first one I thought of, so a lot more can be milked out of this idea.

What thoughts would you have about a story with a much closer connection between the protagonist and their relative that I feel hasn't been touched on by the franchise yet (probably closest would be Connor and Haytham, but I guess with a more positive outcome?)

Edit: More spacing and minor spelling corrections

    Clay as modern day protagonist

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 09:22 PM PST

They should find a way to bring Subject 16 back, and get rid of Layla. Clay was in the beginning, so it's only fair that he should be in the end.

They could use the Shroud of Eden or something.

My Idea for the next Assassin's Creed Game! This is a fanfiction/theory!

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 09:24 AM PST

This is just an idea of mine, based off of the information that the next Assassin's Creed will be set in the Viking era.

    Assassins Creed Ragnarok

The Story of Leif of Tunsberg

    Early Life

    • He was born in Tunsberg, Norway
    • He was born in 1042 AD.
    • He has an older brother called Edvard.
    • His mother's name is Ingrid and his farther is called Ivar.
    • He has never met his father.
    • He was born with red hair and brown eyes.
    • He looks up to his older brother.

    Young Adult Life

    • He helps his mother run her fishing stall.
    • He doesn't see his older brother much.
    • His brother is his idle.
    • He is very athletic and nimble.

    The Creed

    • His older brother Edvard is killed.
    • He investigates his brother's murder.
    • He finds out his brother was apart of the Norwegian Assassins Creed by finding his assassin gear.
    • He investigates the Creed.
    • He finds the brotherhood and finds out his brother was a high ranking assassin.
    • He meets his brother's friend Meredith who is also an assassin, she becomes his mentor figure and friend.
    • He uses his brother assassins outfit and hidden blade, and his unique long sword that he wears of his back.
    • Leif has unique Ice Picks that allow him to climb better.

    Storyline

    • Harold Godwinson, the templar grandmaster in England has claimed the throne after he killed his brother-in-law King Edward. (King Edward died in real history and had no heir, so his brother in law, Harold Godwinson, becomes king.)
    • Leif must stop the Templar Grand Master Harold Godwinson from remaining king.
    • Leif helps William of Norway to invade England and overthrow the templar king.
    • Leif becomes one of the four knights of William of Norway.
    • Leif kills King Harold Godwinson in the Battle of Hastings via an arrow through the eye. (This is how Harold Godwinson died in real history.)

    Personality

Leif is a charismatic young adult, he is funny and a bit clumsy but is trying his best to become a great assassin, towards the end he has matured a bit and gained some wisdom through his experiences, but still maintains his humour.

    Appearance

    • He has red curly hair and brown eyes.
    • He is 5'9".
    • His Assassin outfit has fur on it and is dark grey.
    • He wields a bow, a shield, a long sword and a hidden blade along with his Ice picks, Wich could be adapted to an ice pick hidden blade, similar to the one Ezio gets in AC Revelations.
    • He has a symbiotic relationship with an Eagle named Enok, much like Senu and Ikaros.

Sequal Story? Maybe a DLC. This takes place 3 years after the ending of Assassins Creed Ragnarok.

    • Leif has become much wiser and a much better assassin.
    • He is in a relationship with Meredith.
    • In this story, Leif is given a message to meet someone in the Norwegian mountains, where he meets his father, who used to be an Assassin.
    • His father tells him of a group of Templars that infiltrated the Viking ranks many years ago and had his father banished.
    • Leif must cut his ties with the brotherhood to find out the identity of the Templars.
    • Along the way, Leif finds his thought dead brother Edvard, who is now revealed to be a Sage.
    • The Templars are strengthening Edvards link to Aita.
    • Leif must help his brother remember who he is and rid the brotherhood of the Templars.

[Spoiler] Assassin's Creed Odyssey Combat Appreciation Post

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 10:32 AM PST

This post contains very very minor spoilers

First of all, I'm pretty new to Reddit so I'm not sure if I've used the right flair here but anyway. I don't even know if you guys consider any of these spoilers but I thought I'd better play it safe.

I'm absolutely delighted with the direction Ubi have gone with the combat in Origins and even more so with Odyssey. Don't get me wrong, I've been a huge fan of the AC games ever since I got Brotherhood about 7 years ago, and since then I've gone on to love the series even more. I've played all the games, read the books up until Black Flag and owned some of the merchandise from over the years. Hell I even have an AC tattoo on my arm.

It was only recently I picked up Odyssey because of finances etc. but as soon as I got it I was straight into it and I haven't looked back since. I was enjoying the combat anyway but it wasn't until I was in Phokis where I truly fell in love.

I was wandering around as a level 12 Alexios when I came across a group of soldiers. I used Ikaros to check them out and found one happened to be the leader of the region. Now at this point I'd only burnt maybe 3 of his supplies and killed a couple soldiers, he was barely weakened. He was surrounded by 5 or 6 captain level who were level 13s/14s, but I thought "Ah screw it I'll attack what's the worst that can happen". 20 minutes later I'm fighting this leader, stressing and sweating because every time I kill one captain/mercenary another would appear and it seemed never ending - even the villagers were attacking! I was surrounded all over at all times. At this point I was on the phone to a friend who was playing Modern Warfare and we were just chatting and describing our experiences. I must have been silent for at least 10 minutes straight I was concentrating so hard. I was back and forth between "I can't do it man I'm not dealing enough damage" and "Holy sh--, I've killed another one". Even he was starting to feel my tension. Absolutely delighted, I finished the fight and killed the leader.

I can honestly say that was the most rewarding fight I've ever had in any Assassin's Creed game, the end body count was 37 which was a mix of villagers and captains/mercenaries/bounty hunters. And the beautiful part of it was about 10 minutes later I repeated this with the legendary boar in that area that I'd accidentally stumbled upon and felt nearly the exact same sense of reward.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed this read, it might not be the best but the overwhelming sense of accomplishment I got from that made me want to post something.

Brilliant feeling, brilliant combat and, for me, brilliant game.
