12 Years ago today (11/13/2007) the first Assassin's Creed came out! I know that right now the franchise is in a bit of turmoil, but it's neat to think that whatever our feelings on the different parts of the franchise are, we all came together here because of this event!

I prefered the parkour/climbing in unity

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 08:10 AM PST

I know unity and syndicate had their issues but I feel like they finally got the parkour right. It felt fluid and smoother than the recent games. Playing odessey and climbing feels rigid and old. I don't find any neat parkour runs when roaming around, unlike unity where I found them everywhere.

Assassin's creed set in Wallachia during Vlad the Impaler's rule

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 12:52 AM PST

What do you think about an ac set in medieval Wallachia when the famous Vlad the Impaler ruled this little country? The Impaler supporting the assassin's faction and one mission to involve "the night attack" when the Wallachians stormed sultan's camp near Târgoviște in the middle of the night and almost killing the sultan. In this case the sultan beeing a member of the Templar Order. I think it will be an interesting game with a good story

Hey, sorry, can I rant about the story in Rogue for a second?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 10:46 AM PST

The conflict, typically, in an Assassin's Creed game comes down to ideological differences between the protagonist(s) and antagonist(s). No amount of discussion or philosophizing would bring Altair over to Al Mualim's side, or ensure peace between Ezio and the Borgia, or an alliance between Connor and Haythem.

Shay and Achilles are one brief - perhaps mediated - discussion away from there being no conflict in Rogue at all. The entire story of the game is predicated on two characters willfully misunderstanding one another.

Shay believes the Assassins seek power and destruction. This is due to a preexisting mistrust of the Assassins born of nothing in particular. Achilles believes… what? That Shay was mistaken, or lying, about what happened in Lisbon? What exactly does he think is happening? Shay had weeks and weeks traveling from Portugal to America to calm down and maybe try and discuss what happened in some measured way, deduce what was happening. But no.

Neither character listens to the other, or makes any effort to understand what is happening or the other's motivation. Shay makes broad, sweeping assumptions about the Assassins and their goals. Achilles just… again, I don't know. He doesn't believe Shay, but not for any reason that's ever made clear to us.

This game relies so heavily on Shay and all of the Assassins behaving and reacting to everything in the dumbest way they possibly could have. All it took, somehow, was Achilles *seeing* the device for him to realize Shay wasn't lying and that it shouldn't be messed with. That was it. He saw it, and dropped what he had been trying to do *for the rest of his life*.

What is Shay's ideology? He disagrees with the Assassins' methods from the outset. He mistrusts them immediately. He seems to trust and believe in the Templars wholeheartedly because, I guess, there's some gang activity in New York that the Assassins are peripherally responsible for, and they're nice to him. When Haythem kills a grunt after he gives up the Assassin lady's location in exchange for his life (because I guess seeing Haythem do this three times in AC3 wasn't enough to drive the point home about what kind of guy he is), and Shay literally *gets splattered with blood*, he merrily wipes the blood off and goes about killing his former friend. I guess it's the *way* that Assassins kill in cold blood that rubs him the wrong way, not needless murder in general.

Also, sidenote, speaking of Assassin lady (I don't remember her name, or mean Frenchman's name, or Native Assassin's name), she disorients Shay, then *brings her wrist up to his face*. Then she administers poison and sends him on a chase before dying proudly because she accomplished her mission of buying Achilles time. This is the character that, at the beginning of the game, gave Shay the tutorial for the hidden blade. You know, the wrist knife. Killing Shay probably would have bought Achilles even *more* time. I dunno, maybe the lady liked Shay. She never seemed particularly fond of him.

Actually, no one seemed particularly fond of anyone else on the Assassin side. Shay doesn't seem too broken up about killing his old friends. He seems real broken up about having to kill Adewale, a man he met once, briefly. Maybe he played Black Flag and Freedom Cry and knew he was supposed to feel sad.

What was the point of the years long conflict? Did anyone learn anything? Did any of this matter at all? If Achilles had gone, unimpeded, to one of the devices, he would have somehow just known to leave it alone. Perhaps Shay could have taken Achilles there himself, after a thoughtful discussion about their misunderstanding. But no, everyone had to fight and die over stuff that neither the Assassins nor the Templars would want any part in using.

i want to see ac return to the big three cities of the original trilogy.

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 11:39 AM PST

these would be venezia, firenze and roma for me. i know that these have been done before. but i want to see these great cities again with future-gen technology. i could already imagine seeing all of the three cities rendered fully in their natural size and in vibrant photo realistic graphics. they could have so many more interiors than the original trilogy had and you could come back to them any time.

Was Assassin's Creed III full of bugs as well?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 01:19 PM PST

Just finished Assassin's Creed III: Remastered and it was full of bugs, texture & lighting issues, glitches n stuff like that.

The thing is, I don't remember Assassin's Creed III to be like that, in fact.. I remember it running quite smoothly, without any of the stuff I encountered in the remastered. But, maybe I have alzheimer.. so I thought maybe it would be better to ask others before I judge the remaster.

So, was Assassin's Creed III full of bugs as well?

    AC Syndicate Anisotropic Filtering?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 11:45 PM PST

So I started playing syndicate on PC again, and put all the settings except antialiasing on max. However, I noticed that the draw distances for textures were VERY poor only a few feet ahead of me, so i immediately checked in the options if I had not maxed out the Anisotropic Filtering option. However, I found no such option, and attempted to apply x16 Anisotropic Filtering in the Nvidia CP, which is utilising my gpu 100% and causing lag on my 2060. Am I missing something here or is the way ubisoft decided to 'optimise' the game after the huge amount of bugs from unity was to simply reduce the Anisotropic Filtering and thus creating less GPU strain??

    Assassin's Creed 3 Nostalgia

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 03:31 PM PST

My memory is rather poor. When the game originally released years back I beat it 100%, granted had to wait for major patches to drop. That said when is the best time to do all side content, missions, collectibles, etc?

I think an ac game set during the Latin American revolutions would be great.

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 02:26 AM PST

I'm not an expert on history I'm more of a fanatic, but hear me out. I think that a game set during the Latin American revolutions would be great.

This would align with the franchise's theme of freedom(or at least I think that's the theme). And it would feature the assassins helping the revolution to get rid of templar influence. I guess an apple off Eden could be used in this game and it doesn't necessarily have to be used by a historical figure, in fact it would suit a fictional templar better.

Ok so the story for the protagonist could be that he is discriminated by the white "pure" Spaniards for being a mestizo (a mixed race, I don't know if saying that is racist, but that's not my intention) and his parents were killed in a hate attack by "pure" Spaniards for "cross breading" when he was 16. Instead of swearing revenge, he gives up on life and goes to live on the streets. A few years later (maybe 2) an assassin drops his bag of coins in front of the protagonist. The protagonist decides to grab it and run away. The assassin chases after him and catches him. He is impressed by the protagonist's abilities and asks him who taught him that and he responds "myself". The assassin gives him some of the coins and tells him to meet him at this place the next day so he can give him some tasks and earn money. The assassin wants to recruit him, because this brotherhood is lacking in recruits. The protagonist accepts and that's where the typical tutorial sequences start.

Ok now to the historical events and figures. I reckon the protagonist could be born around 14years before the first revolutions start. After completing his training he didn't know was having, the assassin decides to officially make him an assassin and that's where the major focus point starts. The assassins get caught up in the revolution and send the protagonist to help and throughout his journey, he goes through a lot of character development (which might or might not include the typical mentor death). He meets the famous libertasdores Simon Bolivar and Jose de San Martin. I think the game would focus more on Simon though, since his story is rather tragic. So basically, Simon tried his best to unify South America and ended up being considered a tyrant. And if the timeline lines up, the protagonist could be his assassin as a dlc or maybe as an after ending mission, because there were some speculations that Simon was assassinated. As for fictional characters, if there really needs to be an artifact of Eden, then I guess a powerful oligarch could be the enemy templar with the apple. The protagonist would accompany Simon and Jose throughout the revolutions of Venezuela to Peru and go through all the wars, ending with him assassinating the enemy templar either in the last battle or after it with a "I give up" response from the templar (sort of how Charles Lee died). Finally, the after credits scene would be the protagonist paying respect to his parent's graves after becoming master.

Let me know what you guys think, what I got wrong, what's impossible and you can also add your ideas if you like :D. I'm open to all criticism!

(Ezio Collection - XB1) Prison Break achievement didn't unlock?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 02:00 PM PST

Just picked up the Ezio Collection and have been playing through 2. I just unlocked Altair's armor and was going through my achievements and I noticed that Prison Break achievement didn't fire. Which obviously doesn't make sense, since I just unlocked Altair's armor.

What gives? Is this a bug and am I gonna have to go back through the game to get it?

    Syndicate - Preferred Weapons

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 03:55 PM PST

    Just some lore/historical questions:

The cane sword is the preferred weapon of evie, the games says. But I am wondering. Were women in this time really seen with canes in the streets? Was it not more a thing for man? And then the cane sword has really nasty kill moves. Because of this, for evie I use the brass knuckles instead. The moves look more like knockouts and not deadly kills and it is more inconspicuous to wear or pocket.

How is it in the novel? For jacob, on much covers and posters I see him with the cane sword.

AC game in China, during the Mongol conquest?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 08:06 AM PST

For the next Assassin's Creed game, this would make perfect sense. It's a part of the world they haven't touched yet, and there is plenty of opportunities to mix assassins with the Chinese/Mongols. You could, let's say, have an Assassin father, get killed by Ghengis Khan, the child witnessed the murder, grows up to fight with China to stop the Mongolian advances. It could cover the building of the Great Wall, the dynasty's in China, Ghengis Khans terror, etc.

    Way better than some Vikings.

New AC player, playing Odyssy. What am I doing wrong with levelling?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 02:08 PM PST

    Hi!

First off I'm really enjoying Odyssy but I'm level 10 now (on easy) and it seems like every enemy I run into has a skull above it's head, or a level around 40+.

Is this because I'm doing sidequests? Will the levelscaling be normal if I do the main story? I'm at The wolf hunt chapter now.

I can't walk anywhere anymore without way stronger enemies killing me..

Have I missed the boat to play AC1 and the Ezio collection?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 09:47 AM PST

Bearing in mind I just turned 12 when I discovered the franchise I missed out on the early games. I started with black flag on the 360 which has always stuck with me as my favourite game completing it countless times so I decided to pick up AC3, after watching the cinematic trailers ubisoft posts, about 6 months and thoroughly enjoyed it but found it dull at the same time.

Around the same time I bought brotherhood but only completed around 5 hours before I got bored, I think this was because it looked quite different because of the time period and the action didn't settle with my prepubescent brain.

During the 'road to unity' I watched hundreds of AC YT channels speculating future locations, time periods, mechanics, engine etc but thankfully I was saved by my family not being able to spare the money for a next gen console so they bought me rogue instead at Christmas in 2014 (which I didn't follow as much). I saw it as a combination of AC3 and 4 which I didn't mind but it didn't feel as great as 4.

The next year I was hooked on AC news and leaked images of AC victory with an assassin's swinging on a rope in a train station the news progressed and so did the lack of a next gen console until Christmas 2015 where I got a PS4 but syndicate released and left I didn't feel anything for the game due to the mess of unity at its release but that doubt quickly left and I purchased syndicate in early 2016 along with chronicles. Syndicate felt like something completely different with positives and negatives with it feeling too comedic overall but it didn't faze too much achieving the platinum in February 2017 around the same time I bought unity.

Unity is hands down the most 'immersive' game where I felt like an actual assassin and due to the late pickup, all the majory bugs were fixed only falling through a wall twice. During this time AC Empire began to leak with my anticipation through the roof. The leaks continued until the world premiere, hyped to hell I'd binge every little detail and clip related to the game. Christmas 2017 I got the deluxe edition and earned platinum in 9 days eagerly awaiting for the 2 DLCs to continue my second favourite protagonist's story.

I still stayed connected to the AC community but didn't play the games until last month where I'd turned 18 (so I could pick the games up myself) Here I bought AC3/liberation remastered (which I platted the latter) as well as odyssey (also plated) which felt like a good game but too disconnected from the franchise minus the isu, modern day and the specific scene after all the cultists are defeated overall enjoyable game but not close to the top 5.

Overall I've enjoyed my experiences so far throughout the 6 years I've known the franchise, which encouraged me to take history in GCSE and A levels, but the question left is Have I missed the boat to play AC1 and the Ezio collection (& giving brotherhood another chance so I can understand the story rather than "ooo action") after watching countless videos about the plot and characters lives during and after the games or is it an experience I must have to have a deeper connection to the characters? (because due to the lack of experience with Ezio, I don't find him interesting compared to others like Edward and Bayek)
