AC Syndicate — Playing as Evie is far more enjoyable than playing as Jacob Posted: 18 Oct 2019 09:25 AM PDT Evie and Jacob are very different to play as. Jacob is better for fights, and Evie is better for stealth. I've been doing better in fights with Evie than I have with Jacob. This is probably because I prefer a stealth approach, so I rarely play as Jacob. Evie is much better at stealth (unsurprising, she can literally turn invisible and her throwing knives are insane) and she can take on missions far above her level. I'm not a huge fan of going in guns blazing, and it feels like that always ends up happening when I play as Jacob. Like the mission in sequence 4 where you meet Charles Darwin and blow up the syrup factory. To get full sync, you can't kill anyone, which basically means "remain undetected." It took me a very long time to complete that objective because I kept getting spotted and then I had to run around the building trying to lose the guards. I'm betting that if I was playing as Evie, I could have finished it much faster. Basically, Evie feels like an Assassin and Jacob feels more like a thug. [link] [comments]

What does everyone think of fist fighting in odyssey? I think it could use more attention. Posted: 18 Oct 2019 09:04 PM PDT So I took some time recently to give fist fighting a fair shot and it's so satisfying. Using an overpower move with your fists feels like you're breaking them. Not only that but it feels so fluid and very flexible. Though you have to unequip a weapon to use it. I really wish there where weapons you could use for your fists or at the very least have some way of just unequipping a weapon to do it. Mostly because it's annoying and secondly because you lose some stat increases. What do you guys think? [link] [comments]
I don't know if Assassin's Creed will ever lose me, regardless of game quality (LONG) Posted: 18 Oct 2019 06:43 PM PDT I've been thinking long and hard about posting this, wondering if I'm the only one. I'll try my best to keep it concise but I'm so passionate about this. I'm trying to work out if there's anything (barring drastic overhauls to every aspect of AC) Ubisoft can do to lose me as a game player. I've given my personal verdicts on what I consider to be the main aspects of the Assassin's Creed game franchise. HISTORY I LOVE the Assassin's Creed series. Assassin's Creed 1 had me hooked from the second the opening screen started. I went to sleep and dreamt about it. Dreamt about Acre, dream about climbing up to the Masyaf keep. Living during the Third Crusade in The Holy Land. One of my favourite historical settings because of this game, I've studied that time period in depth since. This is the same for every game in the series, I get obsessed with it. I love history, and AC lives in the time periods no other game is doing. I enjoyed the databases from Shaun Hastings. I'm sad that they've been gone for so long and I don't like that they aren't coming back, but it's not going to stop me from wanting to play the game, it's just a quality of life thing I guess. I enjoy the history. I enjoy the fact. I feel like that won't ever change, so AC keeps me all the while they use interesting periods in time. I've loved it, from climbing Masyaf to wandering the beaches of Kefalonia. STORY Assassin's Creed tells 'Forest Gump' like stories, we witness all the key moments from the time period, in real time. For example the storming of the Bastille in Unity. We can relive history but with a story of its own as a focus. The several millennia long battle between Assassins and Templars. The beauty of these stories for me is that they were believable. They literally rewrote history and brought names etched in time back to life. For example, The Borgia family in AC2 or Blackbeard in Black Flag. They had personalities that inspired me because they were real people. These stories are captivating because they are so creative with history. The universe it created became so deep and the stories themselves could be stand alone games. I enjoy the reimagining of history, I enjoy the stories that they create and tell. I enjoy the fiction within the fact. So for this reason, AC keeps me. I've loved it from Robert de Sable to Socrates. MODERN DAY In the modern day Assassin's Creed universe, the battle between Assassins and Templars is still as fierce as ever, away from the public eye. The conspiracies and consequences of the actions we've played out centuries before are unfolding right before our eyes. For example the man that started it all for us, Desmond. His ancestors actions had consequences for him (and us as a player) which led to his kidnap and subsequent curtailment of all life outside of the Assassin Brotherhood. Then we hit a stumbling block. The story telling road ran out and we had to say goodbye to Desmond, we had learned everything with him as he did. Like him or not saying goodbye to him was never going to be easy. The franchise was thrown into disarray and the modern day story has "arguably" never recovered. The new protagonist is uninspired, selfish and all round someone I don't particularly want to see succeed. This doesn't seem to be changing any time soon. I USED TO enjoy the modern day tale, the relationship between the key players in the modern day war. The writing kept me wanting more. Remember the feeling of having the actual game end after Desmond JUST STABBED LUCY. Amazing. Now? Not so much, most of the key characters I enjoyed in the first half of the series are long gone (special mentions to Shaun Hastings and Clay) and the ones left over have been given a massive disservice in terms of writing (looking at you Otso Berg). The new characters don't get enough screen time or considerate writing for them to have my interest, and if they did, where's their story going? We used to have actual developments and mini sequences in games. For this reason, and the myriad of fantastic posts some people have written on this sub, AC has lost me, it's become a really big problem and I'm not sure I see a way out for them. I no longer enjoy the fiction within the fiction. I loved it until Desmond died. LORE The Ones That Came Before. The Precursors. the Isu. This prehistoric species was fascinating. It was teased slowly and the story unravelled perfectly. For examole The Truth video in AC2, which had me obsessed but was an incredible tease. The mystery was addictive, what was going on with Adam and Eve? I speculated on forums, I created my own theories about Ancient Aliens. I loved the tie in to history when getting the pieces of the video (all tiny clips out of order which heightened the intrigue). Seeing how pieces of Eden had been a part of history was incredible. We got more and more lore and I fed off it. Juno came along and then because of the Desmond story running out of road, her story fell by the wayside too and it all got confused and spoiled. I love anything ISU in games. The Fate of Atlantis was honestly a dream come true for me. It was the only part of my Assassins Creed experience that had been mainly left to my own imagination. Then I got to play in a living breathing ISU world and it was so cool. I wonder if I have buyer's remorse though? Do I now know so much about the ISU that they've lost their allure with me. Will I expect too much in the future after having a whole DLC dedicated to the ISU Universe. I USED TO love the science fiction, in the fiction, in the fact. I loved the ISU characters key to the lore, and the pieces of Eden too. Now I think I've been over indulged and I don't know where it can go from here. I wonder if they've run out of road with the ISU like they did with Desmond. A regular DLC would seem to be a minimum now as it's such a huge part of the Universe. Pieces of Eden may have to get slightly more sublime and the characters more ridiculous. This is conjecture though, and the conjecture had always been my favourite part of the ISU subgenre. For this reason, AC keeps me. I will 100% play the next iteration of the game because of my faith in the lore. If that game doesn't live up to my hopes however, then there will be doubts. I loved it from the Apple of Eden in Solomon's Temple to Poseidon bringing down Atlantis. PROTAGONISTS Protagonists and main characters are so very hit and miss in this series. This has been a major sticking point for so many people as the character you play as can make or break any game. I loved Altair, and I needed more of his story after 1 finished. I'm so glad I got it. Ezio needed and got 3 games to tell his amazing story. Revelations for me was so enjoyable, I loved the bittersweet ending to both Mentors of the Brotherhood. Fantastically written characters I loved playing as. While I don't feel any of the other Assassins have been on Altair or Ezios level, some nowhere near in my books (The Frye Twins for me) they are still fantastic characters and those two had the benefit of being the original Assassin for us, and then one who had 3 games to kill his way into our hearts. For example, Edward's story in Black Flag was some of the best character development I've ever experienced, I loved playing as him, living as him. I love the protagonists. I do feel that Ubisoft are frightened to give any protagonist more than one game. They are even frightened to give one single protagonist one game. I don't want them the have this fear. A truly great protagonist that deserves more games should get them and Ezio proved that early on. I don't want the characters to become diluted, and I think that due to the modern day protaganist being so poor, my trust in Ubisoft is wafer thin at this point. I'm also worried that the last two protaganists haven't been Assassins, and the lore to have them be part of the Assassin story has, at times, been stretched to its limit, and hasn't always succeeded. I would like to see a return to Assassins ideally. I think AC keeps me on this, I like the Assassins I play as (and occasionally the Templars I play as). I've loved the protagonists from Altair to Kassandra. If they stray from Assassins any more though this will change. GAMEPLAY Gameplay in Assassins Creed had evolved, whether we like it or not. The parkour gameplay of 1 was so innovative. While at time it was infuriating, the novelty overpowered that. Over the games the gameplay was refined. For example the leaps of faith became a staple of the series and something I always look forward to doing. There's no feeling like the 10 minute climb to the top of something, followed by the 10 second plummet into grass or hay. The social stealth was fantastic, as well as the executions. Mission design has never been perfect, but the series has shown it CAN adapt, for example the removal of the torturous eavesdropping and tailing missions. Then came the redesign. Gone were the button mashing fights, in favour of more tactical battles and greater skill needed to end conflict. Stealth has been almost entirely forgotten. The RPG element removed the linear nature of the games and gave some imagination back to the player. Personally, this is lost me, I almost never change my weapons or looks, I find a loadout I like and will only change it for something legendary, and never alter my play style. I do like the decision making but I certainly wouldn't mind if it went away. I loved the gameplay, is Assassins Creed always perfect? No, I've had more bugs in AC games than David Attenborough's back garden. Do I always enjoy playing them? No, sometimes I've wanted to throw myself out of a window when Ezio jumps off one even though I didn't tell him to. BUT, I love playing Assassins Creed, I replay them every marathon. I like that they always try new directions, like the parkour, the leaps of faith, the mission designs. I do think the gameplay is the thing that is the most in limbo, there have been lots of changes at a foundation level. For this reason I think AC keeps me on board for at least one more game. I'm sorry for such a long post, and if it wasn't coherent. I love Assassins Creed so much, it's my favourite game series of all time and I feel Ubisoft has earned one more game out of me at the very least. Unless they change each of the things that make AC what it is, I don't think I'll ever be going anywhere. Even then, am I in so deep that it doesn't matter how good the quality of game is, I will play it because I love the series and the previous games. I think I'll always be excited for the next game. I love the whole theatre of Assassin's Creed, and I love the excitement of new releases. I don't think I'll ever stop wanting certain time periods, drooling over the prospect of certain things happening or wondering what will happen next. There's nothing anyone can do to stop that now. I'm in this forever. Is this Stockholm Syndrome? Anyway guess what game I'm off to play. [link] [comments]
AC Unity - PS4 V2 Controller mapping problem Posted: 18 Oct 2019 11:43 PM PDT Hey Guys, So I started playing assassins creed unity today and noticed that the game was picking up my ps4 controller input, but all the buttons werent mapped correctly. I thought this was odd considering my original ps4 v1 controller worked perfectly fine with the game. Either way I tried to use ds4 windows and later inputmapper which seemed to help a lot as the buttons a mostly correctly mapped. However, the triggers at times when pressed do things that the bumpers do. For example, I'll try to start running by pressing the right trigger, and arno will throw a smoke bomb which is normally bound to the right bumper. As I searched on this issue, it seems the problem sprouts from the new playstation v2 controllers that were released which I now own and explains why I never ran into this issue with my original ps4 controller. However, does anyone have a fix for this? Like i said i've tried emulators to get it to work but im still having problems, and I cant find almost anything online about it. Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments]
"Holmgang" mechanic in next AC Posted: 18 Oct 2019 04:07 AM PDT I really liked the idea of the mercenary and leader systems in Odyssey, but it could be fleshed out a bit more. Perhaps adding the ability to take part in holmgangs would build further upon these systems. For anyone who doesn't know what this is: in Scandinavian society, the holmgang was basically a duel between two individuals to settle disputes. We could have leaders challenging us to holmgangs after killing their men or destroying/burning things in their territory. Additionally, we could have the possibility to challenge them. This could be unlocked after a leader sends a mercenary our way to kill us, for example. If there are leaders which aren't great warriors themselves, then they could hire a mercenary who can fight for them. We could gain rewards such as followers who follow us on our journeys (a way to replenish your crew like in Black Flag), and heirloom items like weapons and armour after killing a leader. These are some ideas I could think of, but I'm sure there could be done more with this possible feature. [link] [comments]
Thoughts on Syndicate's WW1 missions. Posted: 18 Oct 2019 02:45 PM PDT I recently saw the post about how some people thought playing as Evie was a more enjoyable experience than playing as Jacob (or at least, felt more assassin-like). I do agree with this, but it actually reminded me of the WW1 missions in Syndicate where you play as Jacob's granddaughter, Lydia. I can't remember exactly how many missions there was, 2 or 3? But I just remember how much I loved playing them. In my personal opinion (as someone who's not an Ezio fan), it strangely reminded me of the first game than any other AC game I have played, despite being the most modern (not taking into account Desmond and the modern storyline, of course). I doubt we will ever see more of Lydia, or even of WW1, both world wars are quite game saturated, but now I'm just really quite sad that we won't because the most fun part for me was that, if you wanted, you could try and blitz your way through, or you could go full stealth and use the distraction elements the game gave you (the generators), even if they were definitely lacking and there wasn't nearly enough of them around to be excessively useful. I would love to see AC from a more recent history perspective that shows the kind of activity that went on behind both allied and enemy lines, and possibly even a few missions a little closer to the trenches. Oh! Also, what were your thoughts on Lydia Frye? We didn't see much of her, but I did sense the same quick wit that Evie has, I thought that was a nice touch. EDIT: I was reminded that Lydia is Jacob's granddaughter, not daughter lel [link] [comments]
AC III Remastered Delivery Requests Posted: 18 Oct 2019 02:03 PM PDT I'm trying to go for the Platinum. The only achievement I have left is the "completionist" trophy. I just finished all the delivery requests. However, when I looked at the dna tracker it said that I only have 66% complete. I went online and looked at videos/posts and double checked that I did all of them. There is 8 in total, and I'm pretty sure I did all 8. Anyone have the same problem? What should I do? I'm literally at 99% and I really want the Platinum. Thanks to anyone in advance. [link] [comments]
Any leaders I shouldn't kill? (odyssey) Posted: 18 Oct 2019 07:33 PM PDT So I've heard there is one leader who gives some kind of quest. I just want to know if there are any leaders like that I should worry about? I've beaten the main story and am lvl 47. I just want to take advantage of the 1 year anniversary event without worrying about killing anyone important. [link] [comments]
Assassin’s creed origins PS4 pre order bonus secrets of the first pyramid Posted: 18 Oct 2019 03:15 PM PDT I recently started playing Ac origins digital on my PS4. Is there anyways for me to play the secrets of first pyramid mission since I didn't do the pre order ? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Oct 2019 02:27 PM PDT I bought all the maps and was going to collect.the blue stones. Will the game take me to these smaller areas or should I just explore? I'm trying to figure out the best way to collect it all. [link] [comments]
AC Revelations is literally XCOM. Posted: 18 Oct 2019 01:22 PM PDT I lost 3 assassins on a mission with 86% success chance and just now I lost another assassin on a mission with 90% success chance. Can someone please tell me how to please RNGesus? I don't really like losing my level 7 assassins and having to replace them. [link] [comments]
AC Games have always had great animation and movement -- until Odyssey Posted: 18 Oct 2019 09:36 AM PDT I finally caved on purchasing Odyssey during the recent Ubisale. Although I've been a fan of the series all the way back to the original, I hold off longer on some releases based off what I see pre-launch and in reviews. While I loved Origins, Odyssey looked like more of the same with a little less flavor and a story choice mechanic that sounded "wrong." Not only did I confirm my suspicions, but the result was far worse than I thought. Movement and animation has always been a fundamental point of excellence in AC games. Going all the way back to the original Assassin's Creed, Altair climbed, ran, walked and interacted with the environment with both weight and fluidity. The fluidity helped in large part by some of the best animators in the gaming industry. With the help of sound design and other visual effects, these same animators also created a feeling of weight, as if a real person was bound by gravity propelling themselves through the environment. At the time, the Assassin was the pinnacle of third-person animation - one of the best in the industry. Different variations of parkour, movement and animation have come and gone through the series. Some assassins had heavier, elegant and deliberate movement like Unity's Arno to the faster more responsive variations in Connor and Edward Kenway. Origin's Bayek featured almost a perfect balance of speed, fluidity and weight. His feet pushed through the sand, he grunted and stretched for higher heights. Bayek could walk at slow even pace and then push into a desperate sprint with a natural seamless move. And while different assassins had occassional quirks that landed you in an unintended place, movement has always been a staple --- a real source of enjoyment in every single Assassin's Creed title. Odyssey is just a mess. Half the frames are missing. It feels and looks like controlling Mario on ice levels. Cassandra has like one speed and it's so ridiculously fast that it's cartoon. There doesn't appear to be much in the way of a shadow, or footprints; or brush through grass. She doesn't look natural. Imagine Tomb Raider. No, not the new one, that's great animation. Think the original PS1 version. It's like 1997 again. And the combat. Who designed this system? The controls are appalling. How did this pass even the initial in-house testing as fun, intuitive and engaging? This may be the worst control scheme and combat system I've experienced in any game I've played in my life. How did this basic stuff get past reviewers? Are people complaining about this? No wonder there have been so many posts from people who love Unity. Unity feels like an absolute dream compared to this. Arno is responsive, the camera is tight, his movements are deliberate and gorgeously animated from the street, through the window to the rooftop. The world is rich, detailed and complex. And combat is at least palatable. Surely others agree. I'm going to give it one more good session, but Odyssey may join Syndicate as the only AC games I've never finished, nor cared to. A waste of $40. So weird to go from Origins which I 100% completed and hailed as a favorite to the lowest of low in one year. TLDR: Movement and character animation in Odyssey sucks. [link] [comments]
Whoever's picking settings must have liked Age of Mythology Posted: 18 Oct 2019 12:48 PM PDT Seriously, in Age of Mythology there's 4 civilizations to play as; Greeks Eygptians, Norse, and Atlanteans/Romans (plus China much later) In the latest few AC games we play in Eygpt, Greece (with DLC atlantis), and next it's gonna be Norse. If they do China after this (which tbh I'd be into) it's gonna be super obvious [link] [comments]
Odyssey - What was up with the sex andron? Posted: 18 Oct 2019 09:55 AM PDT I've just completed the To Help a Girl quest and I'm not sure exactly what we were supposed to take from the sex andron investigation scene? I interpreted the blood to mean there was some kind of torture chamber or something. Does anyone know where they were going with this? [link] [comments] |
