"Assassin’s Creed 2020: Has Roughly 60 Hours Playtime, Says Ubisoft CEO"

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 12:13 PM PDT

    https://www.ibtimes.com/assassins-creed-2020-has-roughly-60-hours-playtime-says-ubisoft-ceo-possible-plot-2843724

    From the article:

"There are also other stories in "Assassin's Creed 2020," and players live in the world where they run after the things they want to achieve, according to Guillemot. The upcoming game also has numerous "Unity"-like experiences. The CEO also revealed that the game's playtime is roughly 60 hours on the average."

Looks like we will get again big open world in the next Assassins Creed title. The only thing what worries me is that odyssey was a long game too but stretched its play time with long grinding and that this will maybe be too in the new AC Game.

    I appreciate AC 1

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 04:32 AM PDT

I thought this game wouldn't be very good as I heard often, and now I have played it and I must say that I very much enjoyed the game. I liked Altair with his stoic mentality, counter kills were so satisfying and just climbing and running on the roofs of the holy cities and killing archers makes fun as hell. The final boss was not bad. AC 1 is still a nice game even in 2019!

The next Assassins Creed needs stopping with the arrows.

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 07:31 PM PDT

When you hit an enemy with an arrow in Odyssey the enemy just walks it off as they come barreling towards you then crit shot you for half your health. This is more absurd with let's say you're hitting them with the Rabid Fire technique, and as your lining up shots the Mercenary brushes them off then proceeds to take a good chunk of your health with a swipe. Arrows and spears, really anykind of projectile should have either better location specific damage (legs being critical like the head for movement) or slow the enemy down. Its absurd how useless bows are in this game especially the special moves specifically designed for crowd control doing just the opposite.

Edit: title should say stopping power***

Odyssey levelling seems cynical. Am I missing something?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 05:10 AM PDT

All parts of Odyssey are level-gated. Ok, I'm not in love with that but I can accept it. But every time I level up, so do all the enemies, so what's the point in levelling? I get an ability point, and that's it. Worse, my gear doesn't level with me so if I want to fight effectively I have to spend a lot of resources to stay competitive. There are like half-a-dozen different currencies in this game used for upgrading gear and your ship: drachmae, wood, iron, leather, obsidian, gemstones, and ancient tablets. These commodities aren't mutally fungible so I can't, for example, exchange gemstones for leather. To get these different resources I have to grind, which means doing missions, which cause me to level up, which makes my gear out of date, which I have to upgrade by grinding for more resources. Is this really how the game works?

Is this game really so cynical that the levelling system is intended to drive you to buy 'time-saving' resource packs from the store? People call these micro-transactions, but there's nothing micro about spending AUD$8 for the smallest quantity of Helix credits. What am I missing? This is the first RPG I've ever played where I actively hate levelling up and look for strategies to avoid XP. I just don't get it. I feel like I'm paying off a mortgage here.

(Yes, I already have the mercenary ranks that make buying resources and upgrading your gear and ship easier. These do not really help.)

What even is the modern day plot anymore?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 07:10 PM PDT

Ever since Desmond, I have had literally no idea what the modern plot is even about in the past few game. From AC1 to AC3, there was a clear goal. Relive you ancestors memories to attain their skills, locate Pieces of Eden before Abstergo, and stop the world from ending like it did for the First Civ. After that? No clue.

Black Flag MD went nowhere, I can't even remember Unity or Syndicate, and god if Layla isn't just the worst. I haven't read any media outside of the games, so could someone enlighten me as to what the overarching narrative is and what the end goal is supposed to be?

Also, maybe instead of Layla (Who is now my least favorite AC character) perhaps we could play as Shaun or Rebecca? Both are already established characters and way more likable/interesting than Layla. Rebecca is even a descendant of an Assassin, so we can have a classic Animus that doesn't require 3rd party DNA stolen from Desmond or taken from relics.

Why is Cristóbal Colón a friend of the Assassins?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 09:33 PM PDT

There are a lot of problems with the Assassins Creed movie, (yet, I really like the cast, the action and parkour) but one of the things that bothers me the most is: why is Colón a friend with the Assassins?

He was not someone who cared about free will and liberty, and he clearly didnt kept his blade away from the innocent.

Is there another book or something in the lore explaining why hes a friend of the Assassins? Or they just wanted some famous historical figure to appear?

What are your thoughts on there being more trailer-like cinematic combat in the games?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 10:24 AM PDT

Just went back and watched the trailers as I do a few times a year.

Man the trailers for AC the the best of any games. Number 3 and Unity are my two favourites. Although Blackbeard's narration in the Black Flag trailer is is good as well.

Brings back the memories of when I used to get so hyped for release.

I kind of wish they showed a bit more of this cinematic stuff in the games. Gives Ubisoft a chance to show off a but and also allows you to sit back and enjoy a few moments of epic combat. I know we all want to get in there and unleash hell ourselves, but watching it is also awesome.

Not sure if anyone else does this.

[Spoilers I Guess] How did they make Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood so fast?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 02:45 PM PDT

That game was shit out literally a year after Assassin's Creed 2, and it still turned out good. In fact it is a masterpiece(or at least fantastic in my opinion). But how did they get it made so fast? Especially considering how this is the game that Patrice left during development(after he apparently finished the work he had to do on the game). Is Brotherhood just story/content that was cut from AC2 or something? I just don't know how they could have made such a great game in such a little amount of time.

Does holding Right Trigger while climbing increase climbing speed? (AC1, Ezio Trilogy, 3)

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 05:39 PM PDT

I'm replaying through the earlier AC games and I have this habit of always holding Right Trigger while climbing. I don't know if it's psychology or what, but I feel like I climb faster while holding it and using the analog stick to climb.

Does the game actually do anything or am I doing this unnecessarily?

I hope the next game is more like Odyssey than Origins, you?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 12:43 AM PDT

This sub seems to prefer Origins for some reason but I liked Odyssey more even if it's not my ideal AC game. At least it commits to the RPG approach and gives you the option to make choices in the story and side quests. It's hard to go back to Origins side quests that don't even have cutscenes.

The origin story in AC:O was tacked on and useless. Odyssey just drops the whole Assassin thing completely which is better than half assing it (really had high expectations for Origins considering it's importance in lore).

Odyssey also gives you the option to play as a man or woman which is again better than shoving Aya in your face at the end and having her suddenly take the credit and do the important stuff. Origins feels like they wanted Aya to be the MC

Getting an AC4 logo as a tattoo on my arm.

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 12:33 AM PDT

So I asked my dad earlier today if I can get a tattoo and he said "its your money" so I took it as a yes and I'm getting it tomorrow!

I chose the AC4 logo cause it looks super cool. It's also going to be my very first tattoo as well so its gonna be pretty awesome!

As for the tattoo, the assassin's logo is going to be black while the skull will be red with the outline being black.

    Looking forward for tomorrow!

[Spoiler] who else skipped the last mission in shadow Heritage dlc?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 12:12 AM PDT

There was a side mission during the Olympics where a lady is accused of "watching the Olympics for all built men". A priest accused her of doing that (as if women shouldn't do that) . Cassandra finds the evidence and clears her before she is thrown off a mountain. I just wanted to punch the priest in the face.

AC odyssey to me was so much about doing what women were not supposed to do in those times, with my cassandra. With shadow Heritage, ubisoft betrayed that for me. Bringing milk and wheat is what typical Greek women were "meant" to do in those times. I refuse to let my cassandra do that stupid shit.

I just completed Shadow Heritage and reloading a save so that I don't have to romance the Malaka!. I agree with game informer article completely. Natakas is just sad dude who doesn't deserve Cassandra in my opinion. From get go, he comes off way too strong on her i.e. I could see how they forced the romance. They gave him sad puppy eyes, as If my cassandra will fall for that nonsense. I would rather let Cassandra have a kid with Alkibiades.

I am not going to argue that I expect a choice in every scenario. At least they should have made Darius have multiple sons with different traits.

Why not make Alexios have a go with Neema( make her live ) if it is about bloodline. Cassandra can be the aunt who can teach the nephew or niece how to fight.

At the worst case, why not let the sex happen while ed they are drunk, and cassandra having baby without the malaka!

I don't like my cassandra bringing milk and other stupid things for the Malaka and his baby. This is completely antithetical to the cassandra the main story built.

    Oh well!

In your opinion when should the major dlcs of odyssey be played?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 12:03 AM PDT

I was going to wait until after I beat the main story before I played through the dlcs but it does look like it might be better to do them earlier. I'm curious on the opinion of the community on at what point should the dlc be tackled?

In my case i am lvl 40 and just completed the two tasks both spartan kings gave me. About to tackle the third soon. Have my lvl 5 spear too so all abilities should be open to me. Unless the dlc has some more I need a lvl 6 for. Please don't give story spoilers but I don't mind some minor ones such as abilities.

    Are Arno and Elise step-siblings?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 04:42 PM PDT

Edit: foster-siblings I mean. Although for that matter, what happened to their mothers?

I knew Elise was the main love interest to Arno, but I didn't realize until I started Unity that Elise's father adopted Arno. So that makes them foster-siblings, doesn't it? I know they're not related by blood, but still. What exactly was Arno's relation to the de la Serre household?

I'm confused about Trials of the Gods (AC Origins)

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 06:00 PM PDT

As of now I have 2 trials of the gods missions in my quest log. Sekhmet and Sobek I know there are 2 versions of each trial the regular version and a hard version that it +3 levels above your own.

I completed regular Sekhmet and got the conductor of souls sword. Then completed hard Sobek and got the sword of the duat. It says there is 38 hours left on the quests. What happens when they run out? Are the trials on some kind of static rotation?

More importantly what do I need to do to get the anubis outfit? Do I just need to beat an Anubis trial? Or do I need to beat all 3 on regular difficulty?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 02:21 AM PDT

I wanted to do some research about modern video game design trends and wanted to know which parts of Assassins Creed (the last two games especially) were the most unimportant parts of the games. Was it the story? Dialogue trees? The repetitive mission structure? The overly-large game world? Please write your opinion in the comments.

AC: Odyssey - My Huge Breakdown & Thoughts on improving the formula for future games. (Hope Devs See This) (Not Holding my Breath).

    Posted: 13 Oct 2019 10:47 AM PDT

Everyone might not agree with everything here and that's ok just wanted to get my thoughts out there and start a discussion and see what other people think.

I've finished 99% of main game map. Every fort, every Gold and Blue (!) Quest and tons of side quests. Currently in the Middle of Ep 2 of Fate of Atlantis but I couldn't wait to finish to put some thoughts across and see what people think. I'm 200hrs into it so should have more than enough experience with the game to have some decent feedback.

The list of things to change to improve overall AC - RPG formula is my personal opinion and I welcome other different opinions and or points of view and don't mind if you disagree. Also I'm just throwing things out in no specific order if there are 1 or 2 minor things contradicting apologies.

1 - This is the biggest POINT: The Map size itself is too big. I adored Origins and I think the size of that map inc all the DLC's was pushing the limit but I think it I personally found it wasn't anywhere near as bad as Odyssey in terms of size and scale, they REALLY need to cool down with the sizes of maps and focus on filling the worlds with meaningful activities and content instead of copy and paste forts and caves.

2 - It doesn't matter how beautiful the world/map is if there's not enough variation in comparison to the size. The unique and memorable places in Odyssey's main game are Athens, Sparta and Mykonos Island, maybe couple of other places that I've forgotten but that's the point is if your going to make it so big there needs to be more variety in atmosphere/look and feel and make different locations more unique.

3 - Variety of quest activity types should expand drastically if your going to make a game and the map is so big it's going to take 100-150hrs to fully complete. What we have now is fine if the game was 50hrs long in total for example the size of roughly Horizon Zero Dawn. I just finished Elysium and for how beautiful it is there's barely anything to do both in quantity and variety. Run to ? Destroy statue, run to next ? Kill animal run to next ? It's the same cave with a SLIGHTLY tweaked layout and or skin you've seen 250x by the time you've completed the main game with MASSIIVEE gaps and distances between ? Markers. It's like 75% of the DLC is just running and or riding a horse from A to B. Bring back scripted events during quests so they feel more unique instead of filler recycled stuff copied and pasted over and over,

Examples of more variety of activities.

    Race Competitons with rewards

Archery competitions, have timed moments during gameplay where you have to hit certain targets or items within a period of time etc,

Tailing Quests (don't over do it and make too many or too long).

Add more conditions to quests to encourage different playstyles having gained different rewards, example if you complete fort as part of story quest without being spotted once you get an assassin dagger or assassin hood, if you storm the place you get a warrior hammer or warrior helm etc.

Killing or stealing shouldn't be the only way to gain rewards or loot.

I'm sure people can come up with more activities and basic mechanics to add variety to quests.

4 - For the love of God bring back proper mo-capped scriped cutscenes atleast for the main story like in Origins! That one cutscene with Kassandra and Brasidas showing up and them doing a cool choreographed fight sequence is the most memorable thing in the whole game story wize because it was a full on cutscene with effort and choreography! It makes the story more immersive and meaningful compared to staring at 2 faces talking with the body language and emotional range of a doll. So many times the voice actors were trying to convey feelings and emotions and the characters on screen wouldn't be able to match the level of emotion and expression that the voice acting was trying to convey! Most of the events of the story end up being forgetable with the current system, it's serviceable for side content but for main/ major story it's not good enough.

5 - As much as I liked the multiple choice dialogue options the majority of the time the choices didn't matter enough in the overall grand scheme of things and you would just get ALMOST the same conclusion to a quest with the tiniest of difference. Like when there's a character that depending on your choice might be punished, killed or rewarded in a quest depending on your choice, ok that's fair enough but what happens to that character makes absolutely no difference to the player because either she's a side character which doesn't affect gameplay and or doesn't affect where the story is going regardless of what happens to them so what's the point? Maybe add multiple choice dialogue for side quests but remove it for main story? Either that or just remove them completely as more often than not it's just a distraction adding tons of extra voice acting.

6 - Add Skill/Mastery Level Loadouts the way Armour Loadouts work. This game is so long you should be allowed to swap gameplay styles at any time on the fly instead of having to pay to respec skills points and manually change them one by one over and over which takes forever. This would fix a number of issues.

Example: There's so many people always saying how they can't one shot kill enemies from stealth and that's because players invest their skills in multiple skill trees and a combination of hunter, warrior and assassin, most people generally don't specialize, I've played the entirety of Origins and Odyssey with a super Assassin focused build but that means my Warrior Damage and Hunter Damage is horrible and while normally that would be ok the problem is there are many situations where the game forces you into combat like the perfect example is Conquest Battles. Another example is if you Play as Assassin and stealth every fort, it takes like 5x longer compared to just brute tanking and storming the place and yet there is NO extra incentive or reward for doing that! As the framework/design of the world surrounding the character is set with the assumption you will be a Spartan Warrior and that is the problem. You can change armour loadout from an Assassin Armour Loadout to Warrior but respecting your skill tree and mastery levels each time a situation comes up where your FORCED into combat BY the game even IF i change armour loadout all my skills are still Assassin based so you end up with the this weird neither here nor there hybrid that's just not as effective at either.

7 - The game needs to take into consideration if you are using an Assassin Build. CRAZY I know for a game called Assassin's Creed you would think the game is designed to take that into consideration in ALL of the game but NO. The game forces you to go into Combat e.g. Conquests etc All the time. Every boss is a walk in the park if your like me running a Assassin Specific Build as I just Hero Strike every boss about 4 times and fights over! The best one was The Minotaur, game makes you work and do so much quests and build up to finally have this epic climatic boss battle with the actual freakin Minotaur, 3 Hero Strikes Fights over! Literally takes 10seconds to kill a boss on Hard! I killed it so fast Kassandra's Dialogue while fighting it didn't even get to finish before the cutscene started playing, same thing happened with Cerberus playing and that's just two out of Many Many examples. I have no way of redoing that fight just to find out what Kassandra said during the fight other that reloading a save from 30mins to an hour ago and then purposely limit myself to doing basic melee warrior attacks Only and hope I Win after attempt 10 due to doing Crap Warrior Damage. This makes every encounter either too hard because your not a Warrior Build or Too Easy e.g. Mercenaries get killed in 2 seconds with 1 hero strike ability. This needs to be balanced and designed smarter somehow, make it somehow more dynamic based on if I change my build to Warrior or Assassin, I'm not a developer so I don't have all the answers but highlighting there's a problem is the first step to solving it.

8 - Stop Discouraging your players from experimenting and using All kinds of Legendary Weapons if they want to be effective in the game! Towards the later parts of your levelling up journey it becomes ridiculously expensive to level up your weapons and armour which directly puts people OFF actually using and swapping around the weapons they use and this is from someone who ACTUALLY bought the permanent XP and Drachmae (Money) Bosters , they'll normally pick like 3-4 Legendary weapons and 2-3 armour sets and stick to levelling them up because otherwise there's simply too little resources and money to level up most Legendary weapon to your level so it's effective in the game to ACTUALLY USE IT! The game directly disincentivizes/discourages you taking advantage of all your legendary weapons and armour because of lack of resources. This wasn't so bad in Origins as Armour didn't have stats it was just weapons but now in Odyssey you have to level up those as well and the economy is so tightly balanced i stopped caring about most legendary weapons I got in game and just stuck with 3-4 weapons, maybe swap one out of the 3-4 I'll keep leveling up with a new one if it's got something really useful like Poseidon's Trident with the Breath Underwater perk. I just feel like it's such a damn shame the developers put in all that work and effort to create all these amazing weapons and yet the economy just completely puts you off jumping around to all kinds of weapons.

9 - If your going to give players the option to select Gender make the game take that into consideration in the way characters respond and react/treat you and maybe even add some meaningful variation and noticeable difference to the story, this would make people play the game 2 times with both characters to see different perspectives. This was a Missed opportunity in this game. At the moment it's just an illusion, a different skin and voice actor that's it. It's better I suppose than not giving the choice at all but a missed opportunity and I loved Kassandra way way more than Alexios due to my personal opinion being Kassandra's voice actor sounding more natural and less forced but that's a personal preference.

10 - Stop Level gating the main story, I'm someone who bought the permanent XP and Money Booster so I didn't find this an issue as much as other players but also my play style is very exploration based so I do 3-4x more side questing than most people but for many people this was a HUGE turn off! You should let the player explore and experience the game at their OWN pace not force them to juggle multiple story lines at once.

11 - Make Level Scaling optional like in Origins because otherwise it makes leveling up pointless, the whole point/concept of leveling up is to feel more powerful but in this game the Scaling makes it pointless. YAY! I just leveled up my two equiped main weapons and equiped armour to my current level e.g. lvl50 so I'm effective against lvl48-50 enemies great! 2hrs lated I'm 53 now have to do it again! It's constantly playing catch up just to keep up with the game instead of feeling stronger. I realised how pointless and grindy leveling up was due to the level scaling way too late when I was lvl70 after that I gave up and put the game on Easy and played it just for the story and world/setting.

12 - Both Origins and Odyssey clearly take a lot of inspiration from Witcher 3 so why not have different quest lines disappear depending what quests player chooses to do and the different choices they make during those quests like in Witcher 3? Example of you kill an npc during a quest that npc's personal quest down the line won't be available etc.

13 - Remove the Ezio theme from the Map Menu! I adore it as much as any AC Fan maybe even more but when you've heard a woman's voice singing it in a loud semi-agressive way for the 250th thousandth time throughout over 150hrs of gameplay it becomes SUPER annoying! Could have just put some ambient music?

14 - I'm not against cosmetic microtransacrtions in games because you know what your buying upfront compared to lootboxes which in my opinion are cancer but the problem I have with Odyssey's implementation is there's no way to win or obtain MOST of the costumes in the store in the main game without paying? Yes you've got orichalcum or whatever but you can't use it to get what you want, you have to play slot machine at the oikos of the olympians merchant and if Jorraptors videos convinced me of anything after he tried for like 8months non stop every week to get the freaking Hades Lieutenant its that trying to get a specific item that's in the games store by ACTUALLY playing the game and buying the randomised item in the oikos of olympians merchant is ALMOST impossible! How about still have a store with cosmetics on sale, BUT still make give players the costumes as rewards for completing every (?) marker in a big region? Or doing certain activities certain amount of times like how certain engravings can be unlocked! Don't have to make it easy, can make store items much harder to work towards than other legendary items but atleast give players a realistic way to earn them e.g. liberate/conquest 10 areas on map on hard.

15 - Make the combat more immersive, impactful and bloody/raw like in Origins, love the combat in Odyssey but I liked the camera being closer to the player/Bayek during fights more like in Origins as it made fights more immersive and feel more personal, also add more blood and rawness to the fighting system. Like the controls and fighting system is VERY similar from a mechanical standpoint to Origins but FEELS very floaty/watered down and different because Kassandra & Opponent is much further away from camera and also there is less tactile impact/ feedback from a both animation and sound perspective during hits, blocks, parries etc compared to Origins so it FEELS inferior and less immersive.

16 - Adding the transmodding feature in Odyssey was one of if not THE best post launch features Ubisoft did but maybe allow to customize more elements of an armour? Like changing the colour of a belt on a waist armour or changing the color of the scarf? When wearing the Spartan Mercenary Chest plate. Like why can't we have an White Mercenary Armour set but instead of it coming bundled with a blue scarf how about giving us the option to keep it red? The assets colour is already in the game so why not?

Some of these points are obviously WAY more important than others but I'll add anything else later if I think of it or anyone else mentions that's really good.

If you've played and Completed Odyssey What do you think???

Would love to hear other peoples opinions.

In Florence right now, devastated to find out the AC2 game map wasn't accurate.

Now of course I know the game inserted fictional landmarks, but I've grown way too attached to the fact that it should take no longer than 50 seconds to get from the Duomo to Piazza della Signoria :(
