Combat in AC 3 vs. AC 4

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 03:27 AM PDT

I'm currently playing through all the AC games in succession because I never really got into the series. On the internet there are plenty of gripes with the combat system in AC 1 to Revelations and I get that. It's just an excersise of holding the right mouse until someone strikes so you can counter that. Of all the aspects, combat was not the most fun. It didn't have to be in my opinion. It serves as a way to progress the story, it's not the defining aspect of the game.

So when I booted up AC 3 I expected more of the same, but was really happy to find out they changed the system a bit. Granted, not the most challenging way of dealing with combat, but I'm not playing Dark Souls or Devil May Cry. As I said, it serves as a way to progress. But when I first encountered multiple enemies as Connor with my trusty dagger and tomahawk combination my mind was blown.

It was needlessly cool to killstreak Connor through a wave of foes. Dodging, weaving and rolling. Using people as human shields to stop the musket fire from a squad of redcoats. Grabbing a musket mid-battle to randomly stab someone. And when you countered 2 enemies at once (something that you really couldn't control, it was based on chance, which was a bit sad) you were rewarded with some of the most insanely cinematic kills I've seen.

Somehow, they really let that feeling of cinematic combat go in AC 4. Sure, you could kill multiple enemies with 1 move like in AC 3 but it just felt less....fluid, I guess. The whole combat system just felt more clunky.

Am I the only one experiencing this? Is it maybe because Edward is a more straightforward kind of guy? Why would they change such a graceful cinematic combat experience?

Finally purchased the Jack the Ripper DLC and I have to say. I really miss the unique killing opportunities

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 06:35 AM PDT

Not just those, but I miss how assassinations of the end target work altogether.

Whether that be releasing prisoners to cause riots, stealing keys to open up unique passageways, or, whatever scenario the unique opportunity itself gave us.

Just performed the 2nd unique assassination which had me steal a key to gain entry, then fiddle about with a trap door lever to have the gallows master fix it, to then finally activate the level to have my target yanked upside down.

I'm enjoying going through syndicate again.

    assassin's creed ancient trilogy

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 06:41 PM PDT

Once the ancient trilogy (Origins, Odyssey and currently untitled Viking game) finishes do you think Ubisoft will continue with making future games have massive open worlds or could it go back to the style of Unity or Syndicate where it's still a big world but condensed.

What’s up with the animus now

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 05:46 PM PDT

So at the beginning of the series they said that the animus works by looking into your brain to find strands of dna. These are memories of your ancestors. Ok. But how tf does it work now. How can you play as these random people. They aren't related to Desmond or Layla. I'm sure it said something but I must have missed it. Also how can you play as Jack the Ripper

Will the first game ever get remade?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 10:23 AM PDT

We've gotten modern rereleases of the Ezio trilogy, as well as Rogue and most recently AC3. What's the likelihood of AC1 getting the same love? I know that the gameplay hasn't necessarily aged well by modern standards, and that probably rules out a simple graphical update, at least from Ubi's perspective. However, I think if there's one game that deserves an outright remake, it's definitely the first one.

Imagine how incredible it would be to relive the experience of the first game with the engine of Unity/Syndicate, or hell even Origins. I'm far from the biggest fan of the newer games' design, but I certainly wouldn't complain if they used it for a full-on remake of AC1. In fact, I could see a totally open-world Holy Land being pretty awesome.

I just think that when they start "remastering" all these older games, but ignore AC1, it becomes a big elephant in the room. Do you think Ubi knows this, and maybe they've been keeping some massive remake under wraps? Or is this all just too much wishful thinking on my part, as usual for me when it comes to the current state of this franchise...

Is assassins creed rogue connected to unity?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 01:52 PM PDT

I'm sure this question is asked a lot, but I am playing through the assassins creed games on Xbox 360 and I want to know if I will miss out on the story because I will not be able to play any games after rogue. In other words, when I finish rogue, will I be left with a cliffhanger, or does unity start a new story?

Storytelling of the Assassin's Creed franchise- Has it declined?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 06:38 AM PDT

Do you think overall the stories and characters have gotten worse? I recently replayed the Ezio Trilogy and sure it's a bit dated in terms of gameplay but back then Ubisoft seemed to give a shit about the writing.

This isn't even about the old vs new formula since I think the decline already started with Unity and Syndicate where I didn't give a shit about any of the characters. It just got worse once they went full RPG. Like compare Black Flag with Odyssey and the latter seems like a bad cartoon in comparison.

Whether you want the old formula back or prefer the new one, I think everyone at least should hope for better writing in the next AC game. Going RPG is a bad excuse for lackluster storytelling considering the likes of TW3

Has anyone had an issue with this achievement in AC2?(Ezio Collection)

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 09:58 PM PDT

I'm going through AC2 and I want to do a completionist run, but when I synchronized 10 viewpoints, I didn't get the achievement. I wasn't connected to the internet at the time, but I connected and still nothing.

Sound effects of the voices in the games

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 11:36 AM PDT

I'm wondering. In several of the games yiy get to hear voices of those who came before. The gods so to speak. They have a sort of ghostly voice effect. Do anyone know what that effect might be called or how it's made?

As warfare and fighting developed throughout time to the point where almost every battle is fought with guns, how do you think the Assassins countered the Templar’s use of the weapons?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 04:45 AM PDT

I believe the Assassins would've developed their fighting styles and techniques to include the element of surprise, as in they would use controlled chaos to disorientate and confuse their target, creating a window of opportunity to take them out

I miss Assassins Creed Ezio Era

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 10:17 AM PDT

Can we please just get a remaster of the Ezio saga with a possible collectors? Or even continue off the story somehow? This new stuff just doesn't feel the same even the setting of the Ezio games was such an awesome place. Man do I miss playing these games with Ezio. I just listened to his theme, it just gave me so much nostalgia almost putting me in tears. I just want to know if anyone else feels the same.

Should I be worried about breaking any main quests by exploring the whole map before starting the main questline? (Odyssey)

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 04:14 AM PDT

I saw in an old post about tips for Odyssey that exploring before the main quest can make you break future main quests. I was just wondering if I should be worried or cautious about exploring majority of the map before starting the main quest? If so are there any specific quests or areas I should avoid before starting the main quests?

How can you make an Assassin's Creed game about Vikings

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 10:16 AM PDT

I honestly can't think of how you can make an action/stealth game based in the time period of one of the most violent people ever. I would like how it might be integrated for good action and stealth gameplay

AC Odyssey - Engravings upgrade limits

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 05:56 AM PDT

I've been playing through and just got to level 63 and I've been wondering about the cap on engraving levels. I know you can go to the hephaistos workshop to upgrade the engravings, but the highest I can get is 7/10, and from the internet research I've done I can't find any instances of any 10/10 engraving. My question is can we upgrade past the 7/10, and is it worth it?
