[Spoilers] What will be announced at Ubisoft’s Forward?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 11:38 AM PDT

What will be announced at Ubisoft's Forward this Saturday? We've had a ton of rumors over the past few months, but nothing fully definitive. Rumors consist of the next game being in China, Japan, Persia, the 100 years war, or even following King Richard. Among these were datamines providing clues of a third DLC codenamed meteor, and a 4chan rumor following it up saying that the actual DLC would be named Ragnarok, taking Eivor to Iceland and the 9 Realms of Norse Mythology. This was then followed up by another datamine showing Muspelheim in the game files.

Despite that, this could be outdated code or dependencies. Some rumors have persisted that a game will be released in Early 2022, perhaps made by Sofia, while others say Sofia is making this large DLC, which has also been described as "standalone like Far Cry New Dawn". Multiple Sofia leads such as Mikhail Iozanov (Creative Director of Rogue and Curse of the Pharaohs) have listed on LinkedIn that they stopped working on Valhalla in October 2019. Furthermore, New Dawn was not a Standalone DLC (like Blood Dragon or Freedom Cry), but was a AA spinoff. Ubisoft does have a history of using Far Cry as a testing ground for AC. Far Cry's Standalone DLC, Blood Dragon was followed by AC's a year later, being Freedom Cry. The owl companion in Primal was carried over to Origins, and Far Cry's most successful game, Far Cry 5, was followed up by a AA spinoff being New Dawn.

With DLC generally selling on 10% of what a base game does, could we see Ubisoft release a AA spinoff like New Dawn for AC? Some fan speculation has been wondering about it reusing the same map such as a game following King Arthur or William the Conqueror. If a new location is used, Iceland, Kievan Rus, and Constantinople are popular Viking areas that could allow easy asset reuse and make a solid sequel for Eivor, as fans have been asking for a sequel for characters for years now, and Valhalla has been one of the most successful games in the series. Of course, Ubisoft could just announce a year 2 for Valhalla content, possibly starting with the rumored Meteor DLC which some fans think could be in North Africa due to Muspelheim being in the game files and being available for asset reuse. That said, asset reuse from Origins may be difficult, as Ubisoft upgraded the lighting and rendering functions of the engine, and is using new models and entirely new materials. The changes in architecture would be preventative to reusing models, and materials such as the sand textures would need to be made again.

Ubisoft has announced that the future of Valhalla's content will be announced on Saturday, along with "some surprises". Ubisoft said in February that 3 AAA games will be released in the 2021-2022 FY being Far Cry 6, Rainbow 6 Parasite, and Skull and Bones, though this was walked back on in May, saying 3-4 AAA games will be releasing and confirming that Skull and Bones has been delayed again. Remakes and remasters are not considered AAA games, so beyond the possibility of a AA spinoff or remake, there is the possibility of a whole new AAA game being announced.

So what do you think will be announced at Ubisoft's Forward this Saturday?

Assassin's Creed Valhalla News confirmed at Ubisoft Foward

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 09:00 AM PDT

I would love to see a 60 fps update for Origins and Odyssey on PS5/Xbox Series S/X

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 11:45 AM PDT

I totally get why Ubisoft would not do this, but I'd say these game actually would make sense to update. At least when it comes to the frame rate.

Origins is probably the most favored game, out of the latest 3, and I constantly see and hear people getting back to it.

Odyssey was kind of a hit or miss for some people, but fundamentally it's a cool game and would greatly benefit from an update. Both for old and new players.

Me personally, I own Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla on both PC and Playstation, but currently I'm mainly using my PS5. So it's not a "buy a PC" kind of thing. I would just love to see these game get some extra love so that they may live on a while longer on consoles. But as I said at the beginning - I'd get why they wouldn't do it. Ubisoft ain't supporting these games anymore so why would they bother.

    Anyone else feel the same?

The Ultimate Historians React to AC Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 09:55 AM PDT

Over the past few weeks, in two enormous streams, I assembled a panel of historians to play through and react to the Wrath of the Druids DLC. Everyone is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Irish, Pictish, or Welsh studies (except for me, who has an MA in Norse studies). It was an absolute blast, and if you're interested in the longest, most thorough breakdown of the history and references in the game, check it out!

Note: We are sometimes pretty critical of the game and its decisions - this is not because we do not have fun with the game, or think it is bad, but because we like the game and think it has so much room to do the history even better!

    Part 1 (8.5 hrs)

Part 2 (9 hrs, I wasn't kidding about it being long. But we are thorough).

    I hope you all enjoy!

An idea I had. AC: Foundations, a game that takes place during the foundation of abstergo

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 10:14 PM PDT

First of all, thanks to u/mandaloredash post for the inspiration.

So here's the thing, my knowledge about the modern Era lore is a bit murky so correct me if there are any lore mistakes now here we go If I remember correctly abstergo was founded shortly after ww2. now with that in mind let's say the Templars suffered major loses during the the war due to countless assassinations by the brotherhood that included key members and allies of the order so the Templars order decides to to find a new way to assure control going into the modern Era now that wars aren't as effective as they used to be so they create Abstergo industries, a corporation that disguises itself as an entertainment and technology company while hiding it's massive plans to assure Templar in the new world. The Assassins eventually find out the plans and then a war full of espionage and sabotage ensues between both orders, as world starts entering the cold war era, the war between them will be at peak whether it be Templars trying to deal with the Assassins with their own tactics using hiding in the shadows, assassinations and maybe even attempt to install traitors or spies in the order. The could include espionage heavy elements like intercepting radio transmissions, uncovering plans etc. And also more complex assassination mechanics. The way you assassinate your could result in completely different encounters like let's say if you kill the target using traditional methods (hidden blades, sniper rifles etc.) could result in pointing fingers in the cold war side of things and more paranoia and Templar awareness of assassin activity in that city or area which means more aggressive guards and restriction. I have a lot to say about the game mechanics but I think this post has gone for too long. Maybe I could post an edit if you want me to elaborate further but what do you about the idea overall?

[SPOILER] Is every Assassin's Creed ending as beautiful as Valhalla's?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 05:19 PM PDT

I'm a relative newbie to the franchise, I played a bit of Syndicate and a bit of Origins but never really felt it. I bought ac valhalla because "Badass vikings wooo" and I really enjoyed the game despite the mixed opinions.

That said, one aspect of this game has me wanting to get into the series more: The ending. More specifically Eivor leaving the Yggdrasil simulation. The whole cutscene is beautiful and I'd say it's a fair contender for my favorite cutscene of all time (You can watch the full cutscene here) especially the lines "With me you have Wisdom. Power. Glory. What more do you need?" "... Everything else..." Hit me incredibly hard.

Now my question is: Do all Assassin's Creed games have such beautiful endings or is it just AC Valhalla that gets this emotional?

Thank you all so much in advance!

What is the hierarchy of the Assassins?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 06:34 PM PDT

Throughout the entirety of the games, the only ranks I've heard of is the Mentor and the Assassin, but other than that, there's really no mention of other ranks. Is there a order structure with specialized positions and a rank system like the Templars, or is it something completely different?

Synin in Valhalla was such a disappointment to me, in so many ways.

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 09:24 AM PDT

I loved the game and welcomed some of the changes from Odyssey, but the way they handled the bird companion left me really disappointed.

(I played the game at launch so it's possible some updates were added that improved Synin)

Unless you play with the compass off, you have no reason to use Synin during exploration. Some say that the instant enemy marking from Senu/Ikaros was too OP, but it was a choice, you didn't have to use it. Just like switching the compass off is a choice to make exploration harder, they could have the markings be an option too.

Synin also doesn't help you in hunts and combat like Ikaros did. Ikaros seemed a lot more involved in what Kassandra was doing. I realize that eagles are a lot more powerful than ravens, but I hoped Synin would have her own set of abilities, like steal things or something.

Synin almost never appears in cutscenes or is mentioned in conversations, making you almost forget you even have a bird companion.

But I was mostly disappointed in Ubisoft for not taking advantage of the fact that we have a raven this time around. Ravens are super intelligent and mischievous birds, yet we don't see any of the sort coming from Synin, she has no personality. Ikaros acts more like a raven than Synin does. It's not even explained how Eivor got Synin, aside from the obvious "Odin has ravens too" connection.

I really hope the bird companion we get in the next game will be more involved with the protagonist and be more useful in their own way.

How do you feel about Synin? Especially in comparison to Senu and Ikaros?

    ___________

EDIT: Here's a TLDR. I'm not only talking about how useless Synin is. It's lack of usefulness in gameplay/exploration paired with no appearance in cutscenes/mentions in dialogue that makes Synin almost invisible.

Are the St. George and Modraniht cloaks the only white hoods in Valhalla?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 07:00 PM PDT

I'm a few hours into Valhalla and I honestly got sidetracked trying to make Eivor look like an Assassin. I got the St. George cloak planning to use it only to discover the big ass cross on the back. Is the Modraniht armour my best bet for a white hood after that?

Origins - Trial of the Gods - Xbox - We are always SO close. NEED COMMUNITY HELP

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 10:20 AM PDT

Hey guys, I've recently fallen in love with, and beaten Origins. However, I am certainly not done with the game, from an RPG completionist standpoint, until I get the golden Anubis costume. The past two weeks on Xbox, we get to about 7,500-8,250 kills every week. We need 10,000. We are so close every time it's terribly frustrating. I know it's four years old now and everyone's playing Valhalla, however, I know Origins has a special place in this community's heart as a fan favorite. If you haven't played Origins in a long time on Xbox, please just casually log in and get a couple of boss kills. I can't move on from this game until this happens lol. New players like myself need to reach the goal 4 times, that's 4 weeks of completing the goal. Can we make Mid June - Mid July an unofficial Origins God killing month? Thanks community!

[Odyssey] Is there any boss in the game which is easier as melee than ranged? Boss mechanics that I've fought are alot more punishing as melee than as archer

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:34 PM PDT

Note to mods: I don't think this is low effort, or please explain to me how it could be considered as such. I am genuinely surprised how much easier bosses are as ranged. Adding this here because my last post was deleted.

Why do you think Ubisoft continues the modern-day established since ACI over ending it, rebooting it, or removing it altogether?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 10:41 AM PDT

Obviously the modern-day was always a mixed thing in the AC franchise, but since ACIII the majority have agreed that the quality has taken a dive. It's often been reduced to boring, short, scenes that feel out of place and don't have that same sense of urgency or progression the Desmond Saga had.

The reason for this is b/c Ubisoft wanted to go a different route than Patrice Desilets, but my question is why continue the story he started over ending it or rebooting it? I know they want to keep a modern-day section b/c there is a sizeable portion of the fanbase that prefers it in the game (myself included FTR), but what I don't get is why not end the Juno Saga definitively (IN GAME, not a comic book) and then start afresh with something new?

If the idea is they want to make every game accessible to new players, it hasn't made any sense to bring back plot elements and NPCs that newbies won't understand. I thought in Origins that's what they were going for given that Layla and her squad were completely new, but then they went and threw in William Miles at the end- a character you WON'T know unless you've played prior ACs.

    Anyway, thoughts guys?

An in depth analysis on Assassins creed gameplay and possible upgrades

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 11:11 AM PDT

Since the release of AC 3, the gameplay and combat system of assassins creed has had a number of changes and improvements. This has caused mixed reactions amongst fans, which have increased since the release of the new RPG combat system, to the point of "dividing" the fandom between newcomers and old fans

Today i want to ask you guys this:

    • WHICH IS YOU FAVORITE AC GAME AND WHY?
    • HOW MUCH INTERESTED ARE YOU IN READING A STUDY in which i'd go in a deep analysis about the changes, the things that people like and dislike, while also providing several solutions to the problems, which hopefully would bring the fandom into a more of an agreement. this study would also include visual evidence, key maping for PC, PS4 and Xbox, explanation on how to implement it and why implement those changes.
    • WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE TO THOSE GAMES YOU DISLIKE?

This would NOT be a rant or just personal opinion, but an investigation process on different award winning games, opinions and discussions on the series itself (mostly from this subreddit) to come up with a "wining formula"

This work would be posted as either a downloadable PDF or readable document hosted in a website ( not selected as of right now).

This would be used as practice for my collegue thesis (so feedback and support would be heavily apreciated) and thus, would have a high level of quality and work from my part, but before starting this i need to know the overal interest of the community.

(English is not my first language, sorry for any typos i might had)

How Assassin's Creed 2021 Can Improve Valhalla's Settlements

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 04:29 AM PDT

(spoilers) Do you think the Valhalla DLCs will continue the modern-day storyline?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 09:20 AM PDT

I'm a fan of the modern-day so I hope they will, but at the same time I don't know if Ubisoft can commit to completing their modern-day plots. I feel like each new installment to this plotline is only vaguely connected to the modern-day plots before it. The modern-day parts of the first few games focused on Juno and the First Civilization, but those storylines were finished in the comics and a lot of people never read them. Logically, the conclusion to that (the reveal that Juno had turned many Assassins and Templars to her cause, briefly succeeded in gaining a body, and tried to take over the world before Charlotte killed her) should have rocked the Assassins' world, but Layla barely mentions it, and many players might've been wondering who Charlotte even was. The end of the Fate of Atlantis Odyssey DLC features Layla crippling and capturing Otso Berg, who could have provided some modern-day continuity, but he isn't mentioned in Valhalla at all except for an audio file on Layla's computer that doesn't work. The writers have a tough job balancing long-term storylines without alienating newer fans, but as someone who does follow those long-term storylines, it can have the effect of taking me out of the story, as the modern-day characters don't behave in ways that make sense given what's happened in other parts of the AC universe, and I don't know whether to get invested in any modern-day plotline if I'm not sure the writers can follow through. The writers are doing their best, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

[SPOILER] Considering what AC Valhalla gave us in terms of the Assassin VS. Templar struggle, I've come up with a narrative idea that would incorporate more of this set during the Viking Age. Would love a discussion on the topic and on the narrative idea!

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:48 PM PDT

Because of the lack of story being told of the Assassin and Templar struggle in Valhalla and it being more focused on the Viking-fantasy, I think it is safe to say that many of us early AC fans are a bit disappointed. The only thing we got in terms of Assassins v. Templar is Basim and Hytham being Assassins and The Order of Ancients being disbanded. Don't get me wrong, tough, I love Valhalla as a game and all they've done with the Isu.

I really like the idea of an Assassin's Creed being set during the Viking Age, but a story focused on the age-old struggle. So I've written a small narrative idea that I would love some feedback on. I have the ending worked out already, but I have yet to actually write it down. I'm studying to become a teacher in history, therefore I've also tried to incorporate some actual historical accuracy. The idea is also to include the battle of Stamford Bridge. I would love for you to take a moment to read and then discuss what you would want an AC game set during the Viking Age to be. I'm thinking of making this into a narrative YouTube-video once finished. The working title is Assassin's Creed: Phoenix (blatantly stolen from Project Phoenix, lol).

    Without further ado, here goes:

    Assassin's Creed: Phoenix

You play as Ilaria Gabraina, a woman born to an unknown soldier in the varangian guard of Constantinople in the year 1043. Her mother was a lowly byzantine woman who died during childbirth. Leontios Gabras, the mentor of The Hidden Ones of the Roman Brotherhood (a very small organization) adopted Ilaria into the order not long after her birth, tailoring her in secret to become the ultimate murder machine, striking from the shadows. Leontios happens to be a close advisor to Emperor Constantine X of the Roman Empire, giving Ilaria opportunities and privileges, she otherwise would have missed out on. Ilaria is a young, charming, but brash woman, who often acts before she thinks things through.

During Ilaria's life, the mystery of who her father was has plagued her mind to no end. She knows of his Norse heritage, considering he was part of the Varangian guard. Leontios claims he knows very little of who exactly her father was. Though Ilaria suspects he is not telling her the whole truth. This Norse heritage has also given Ilaria a reputation for fierceness and eccentricity, something Ilaria has taken to heart and is putting to good use. But it has also created a sort of identity torn between the beliefs of the Christian church and the pagan ways. In the streets and the church, she feels the presence of God, but on the other hand, when she wields a blade, Odin is not far away. Ilaria's resolve stays the same, anyhow, locating Templars and ending them is her priority above anything else.

In the year 1060, information about the Templars of Francia are emerging. The information is not substantial and from an untrusting source, a letter from a sender calling themselves The Eagle of Rome. In the letter they state,
"Templar domination is soon at hand. Await my arrival at the court of Constantinople whence the Lord prepares. Thus, the curtain falls, and secrets shall unfold. Look to the skull of the Eagle, hidden among nobles."
Mentor Leontios gathers that the sender most likely knows of the existence of The Hidden Ones, but to which extent is hard to say from the letter alone. Ilaria is tasked with the mission of finding out more about this sender.

Court holds a banquet the upcoming preparation day (Saturday in the Byzantine empire), which could be what is referenced in the letter. Ilaria mingles with the nobles, keeping an eye out for the sender, when suddenly someone bumps into her. Looking towards the person, she spots something on his wrist, the insignia of the Hidden Ones, before everything goes dark. Finally, she wakes up in an unfamiliar location, with the assailant sitting on a stool across the room. Quickly, Ilaria comes to and attacks the assailant, throwing him to the ground holding her hidden blade to his throat. He apologizes for his unorthodox introduction, but this meeting is of highest secrecy and importance. He cannot tell her much, except his name, Victor, and that his allegiance lies with the Hidden Ones after deserting the Templars and their cause. After overhearing a conversation about "eradicating all those who oppose Gods' teachings". Victor also shares the name of a Templar knight; Renauld L'Emrite of Auvergne, who holds valuable, classified, charts about the next steps of Templars. Charts that he never managed to get ahold of. His plan of retrieving the charts failed, and in a last-ditch attempt at stopping whatever the Templars are plotting, he escaped to find with the Hidden Ones, so they might hinder them. He pulls out a knife, for his purpose has come to an end. He states that Ilaria's father would have been proud of her achievements, despite him being the enemy, "perhaps you'll meet him someday?" Victor then slits his throat, never to speak another word.

Baffled at what she just heard, she closes Victors eyes, reciting "Requiescat in Pace", before leaving the room he had taken her to. Is her father still alive? Victor had said that he was the enemy, is he a Templar? Ilaria finds she is still in the palace; her mentor can't be far away. She bursts into his study, demanding he tell him immediately who her father is! After a heated argument, in which Ilaria relays Victor's information, Leontios eventually gives in, realizing he cannot withhold the truth. Her father is Harald Hardrada, once a varangian guard, now King of Norway and Grandmaster of the Norwegian Templar Order. He meant to tell her the truth when she was ready to hear it. She wants to hear no more, the only paths leading ahead are those who end in Francia, and in locating Renauld L'Emrite. Reluctantly, Leontios agrees. Though on a condition, that he comes along; Ilaria may be skilled, but facing down the entire order on her own is way too dangerous.

They board a carriage to Francia the following morning. Ilaria is torn between countless different emotions and questions. She wants answers. And she will have them.
