Dag is both an annoying, and wasted character [spoiler]

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 05:49 AM PST

Throughout Assassin's Creed Valhalla Dag is constantly on your case. From being boastful and wanting to be where the action is, to flat out disobedience that leads to his death. Having Dag question your decisions, or your commitment to serve Sigurd and the growth of the settlement could have made sense, if the player actually wasn't focusing on either pledges or the settlement growth. His duel and subsequent death could have been punishments for the player if they never focused on the growth of the settlement, and they focused more on exploration and other activities that don't directly benefit the settlement. But instead, even if you are doing everything to grow the settlement, Dag jumps on you and calls you selfish, or wanting to take power for yourself, which could have meant something, but instead makes him look like an idiot, and not care the slightest that he was killed due to this.

The darker, more subtle implications of Bayek wanting to be forgotten by history, and also of the hairstyle he has at the beginning of the game

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 01:40 PM PST

Bayek is obviously deeply religious. And in Kemetic religion, to be remembered is necessary for eternal life after death. By being forgotten, Bayek is knowingly condemning his souls to oblivion. Combined with his obvious guilt and self-loathing in Curse of the Pharaohs, the takeaway here is that Bayek is extremely suicidal, and stays alive merely to serve the people of Egypt. Clearly, he is in a better place before he dies, since he has a tomb and epithet, and has his body mummified; this is perhaps because of reuniting with Aya at some point before dying, seeing as their divorce obviously hurt the two of them deeply.

As for his hair—the side-lock in ancient Egypt was associated pretty solely with youth. Being that the rest of his hair outside the ponytail is pretty short, it can be inferred that he hacks it off every so often while growing the sidelock out. Obviously, this is out of grief for his son (who should have had this hairstyle, but I digress), which he is obviously in a place of feral anger about leading up to Rudjek's death, separated from the grounding influence of friends while he is hunting people and shown to be neglecting to take care of himself. But there's also a possibility of him having some sort of mental breakdown wherein he regresses to some sort of child state or something until he gets his first kill and begins to mentally recover a bit.

That said, I wore it for the whole game 'cause it looks cool as fuck, it could be explained as a religious thing since priests were occasionally depicted with the hairstyle despite normally being entirely hairless, and combined with the beard he has sort of an ascetic wanderer vibe that I really love.

What are the chances of getting another AC game like Unity in the future?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 04:36 AM PST

Do you reckon the series will ever go back to something that feels and plays like Unity? Unity has become one of the most praised titles and there's a lot of people wanting the series to go back in that direction. What are the odds of it happening?

[RUMOR] Next Assassin´s Creed is returning to the Third Crusade? I try to decipher Jonathan´s Code.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 07:31 AM PST

[RUMOR] Next Assassin´s Creed is returning to the Third Crusade? I try to decipher Jonathan´s Code.

Jonathan is a french youtuber who has been teasing the next Assassin´s Creed for a while now. He had info before on Valhalla, even naming the protagonist as Jora (which was confirmed by Darby to be one of the earlier options for Eivor. In the final game, she still uses it in Vinland).

Grain of salt, of course, nothing is confirmed and all of this can turn out to be fake.

But I really want to expand on the teasers made by him in his latest video, as seen here: (16) LA VÉRITÉ SUR LE PROCHAIN ASSASSIN'S CREED - YouTube

These are my attempts in decoding his hints based on others´ opinions and a bit of Google-fu [special thanks to our moderator nstav13 for helping me!].

The Assassin´s Creed Wikia has been a great source too. Feel free to add more to it! Or you can also skip ahead for the conclusion.

    1. The Hints

Jonathan said he was inspired by this wall on Desmond´s room in Abstergo.

    - Templar Cross - This needs no explaining. But it is interesting how much Templar content is in the video overall. Hinting at a playable Templar Knight?

    - Island Icon (Corfu, Greece) - After leaving Acre and ending his Crusade in 1192. It was here that Lionheart learned of a meeting between King Philip and the Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI, where Henry promised to arrest Richard if he landed in Italy.

    - Coordinates (Dubrovnik, Croatia) - Another temporary stop for Lionheart on his way back to England. Legend says that a storm forced Richard´s ship to crash at the island. The king was so grateful that he spent money to build a church on the nearby town.

    - Colors Code (red, white and blue) - Most likely the flag of France, which was very important for Richard. In his youth, he became Duke of Aquitaine. The, he spent his last years fighting Philip II for french territory and got killed in 1199 during a small siege.

    - Ring Icon (The One Ring from Lord of the RIngs) - Might be a reference to a Piece of Eden? AC3 had an Isu ring that could deflect bullects and other metal objects. In regards to Richard, the only notable ring he had was from Saint Valerie, which he recieved in his youth when turned into Duke of Aquitaine. Would this explain his might in battle?

    - Coordinates (Sofia, Bulgaria) - Seems to hint at Ubisoft Sofia, lead studio of AC: Liberation and AC: Rogue + support in other main games (Curse of Pharaos DLC and Cyrene Region in Origins, for example).

    - Spotify QR (Edmund) - The name does not ring any bells in the Third Crusade. In AC lore, the name is often tied to Templars. Possibly our protagonist´s name? It has english origin and means "protector of prosperity".

    - Arabic word (Rashid) - The name of Al Mualim, the mentor of the Masyaf Assassins in AC1. He was killed in 1191 by Altair, which is before Richard left Acre. Would the game start while he still lives?

    - Binary Code (2022) - Seems to be the game´s release year.

    - Building Icon (Al-Aqsa Mosque) - It is on Jerusalem and also recognized as the first Templar Headquarters.

    - Mountain Icon ( The Alps) - Mountains that pass trought multiple countries (like France, Austria and Germany). Richard was held captive in a a castle near Vienna, Austria, which is near it.

    2. So, are we going back to the Third Crusade?

    A familiar reunion.

Sort of, it seems to be set between 1191-1199 and following Richard Lionhear´s life after the Third Crusade. It might explore events from before/after that too.

Possible cities would be Acre, Corfu, Dubrovnik, Vienna, Cologne and Paris. I assume France and Germany would be the main open worlds.

    3. What about Altair?

    The Mentor´s return.

I am sure many will question that. After AC1´s end, it is said in history that Richard was suspected to have paid the Assassins to kill the future king of Jerusalem. The contract was fulfilled and that would be used by Lionheart´s enemies to keep him imprisoned in the future.

Even a letter by the real Al Mualim was not enought to prove Richard´s innocence (there are claims that it was forged).

It shows that Lionheart had connections with the Assassins after the events of AC1.

Altair himself is busy until 1193 on Cyprus (as seen in his PSP game, Bloodlines). After that, he returns to Masyaf with Maria Thorpe. Their marriage in Limassol happens in 1195. Shortly after they had their first son, Darim. In 1197, they had their second son, Sef.

He would later be seen during the sack of Constantinople on 1204, during the 4th Crusade (bad timing for his attempt to create a HQ on the city).

Richard Lionheart would be dead by then, so we may or may not see this event.Plenty to fill in between the lines. The Mentor would be at his peak, studying the Apple, writing the Codex and expanding the brotherhood trought the "Old World".

    So...what do YOU think?

    [spoiler] How did Haytham know?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 04:21 AM PST

I was rewatching cutscenes from AC3 bc i havent played the game since i sold it many years ago. And in the cutscene where connor meets haytham for the first time in the church, haytham refers to his son as "connor" and not his real name. I havent played the game in a while but did connor meet with charles lee before he met haytham? Did haytham ever meet with achilles before he met connor? How did he know he went by connor?

What would be a good setting for an AC game in South America or Africa?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 03:37 PM PST

Does anyone know of a good palce in history where a game could be theoretically set somewhere like Brazil/Argentina or anywhere in Africa? Somewhere around a revolution or war, but would there be enough to actually make a full fledged game? I'm curious if this could be possible.

I've platinum'd every AC game. Some, three times over. I was hesitant to delve into Valhalla after Odyssey. However, I'm pleasantly surprised.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 08:46 AM PST

Something about Valhalla feels immensely similar to Brotherhood. It's like, if Brotherhood and Origins had a baby. The Roman ruins are great. It feels like something more than nostalgia.

Brotherhood is my all time favorite game....ever. it's the game that got me hooked on good story telling. It's my Ocarina of Time, my Ghost of Tsushima(fantastic game by the way, totally felt like a Japanese Assassin's game without the order.)

I clear everything I can before moving through the missions. I'm about 40% clear land wise and around 20 or so hours in.

I started clearing level 90-200 areas between 50-70 power and it feels amazing.

I'm glad I waited until now to play fully, I've ignored all videos and spoilers so I'm fresh. However, unlike in Odyssey, I haven't skipped one dialogue or cutscene.

From my time so far, this game is in my top 5 and it deserves it.

It makes sense that Bayek doesn't have a statue for creating the Brotherhood because Aya doesn't either

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 09:56 AM PST

One of the biggest problems fans foresaw with retconning Bayek into the canon is that it would lead to inconsistencies with the statues under the Villa in ACII. After all, why wouldn't the co-founder of the Brotherhood have his own effigy, especially when Altair got one for being a reformer. As further proof, fans pointed out that Aya ultimately got one as well, but not Bayek.

But when you read the description on Aya/Amunet's statue, you'll realize that she doesn't actually have one for co-founding the Brotherhood: it's for assassinating Cleopatra. In fact, all the other ones are there for notable assassinations done by assassins/proto-assassins (minus Altair). Therefore, it makes sense that Bayek wouldn't get one because he didn't really have a notable historical assassination.

Are the new controls standard for all the new games??

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 09:12 PM PST

What's up! I recently bought AC Odyssey on a Steam sale, Gold edition, back in Jan, and got AC 3 remastered with it. Been playing AC 3 remastered, and I've loved everything about it. But yesterday, I fired up Odyssey, and the controls really threw me off.....

I've never played Origins before. I've only played AC4 and Syndicate (didn't finish it) on PC. Other than that, I've always played AC on Xbox (Ezio Collection, AC3, AC Rogue).

I keep reaching for Shift to sprint, then remember there IS no sprint. Plus, the space to dodge is annoying AF.

My question is : are these controls going to be the new standard for all coming games? At some point, I would want to buy Valhalla, but might change my mind if these are going to be the controls.

I know I can change it, but the bindings I set conflict with each other in different areas (like combat, naval, movement, etc.)

Also, is Odyssey meant to be played with KBM or controller??

The new mods for AC Black Flag have been pretty awesome lately.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 04:46 PM PST

I just found out that the past few months several small youtube channels have been uploading videos of themselves playing with Black Flag mods where you can mod Edward as a British, Spanish, or privateer captain or sailor (like, the ones you fight in-game, not the names of the original outfits you purchase in-game). There's also mods for the Jackdaw to turn it into a British, Spanish, Portuguese, or pirate hunter man o' war, as well as the Queen Anne's Revenge or a regular pirate brig. There's several other ship and character mods I'm too lazy to list out. I'm pretty sure these mods are only available for PC though.

Just wanted to know about any differences in features, gameplay, etc. I know graphics will be a difference ofc, but other than that will I be missing anything out if I get the game on PS4 vs PS5 ?

I personally think ubi should do another game for Desmond's story. What about you guys?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 03:54 PM PST

I just replayed the og games from 1-3 and it made me remember how much I hate the end of Desmond's story arc. I personally just want 1 more game focused on him and his story specifically. I feel it ended too abruptly. Idk maybe it's just me but I feel so goddamn unsatisfied with the way his arc ends. His death almost perfectly sets up for a sequel, even though it's not supposed to. If we had just 1 last game, even if we don't even play as desmond, just to end off the story. Pls ubi, I can't be the only one to feel like this, right?

For a future game in AC, I would say that a game set in Scotland or Ireland would be an amazing setting for AC.(Partial Spoilers for Valhalla Game play)

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 10:19 AM PST

While playing Valhalla, and fighting in North Umbria against the Picts, I tried traveling further north, never once getting a glimpse of what lies in the lands. I know there is a DLC coming out soon where you get to go to Ireland, although I expect it to be amazing, I would appreciate a game of its own going into these celtic cultures. For a game set in scotland it would have to be the Anglo-Scottish wars set in 1296, where the king of Scotland died without an heir. we can see William Wallace and other famous leaders of the time, as well as the kind of all of England this time. Then we have the Irish game which could go a lot more ways than others, I thought of a lot, some to be considered really weird like the Irish Potato Famine, but all jokes aside, the best timeline I could see would be the Oliver Cromwell era, where he goes to war against Ireland due to them staying Catholic, this would be cool to see how an oppressed people think and see about the English. I know this wouldn't be done for years to come, but if Ubisoft is planning to stay in the times of ancient warriors, seeing a celt game in the future would not be unfavorable. Thank you for reading.

Historian here. Loving AC Unity and I've been thoroughly exploring Paris and Versailles. I've come across some interesting historical details in the open world that I think credit the design, research, and world building to an impressive degree.

Let me know what you think! But I'm also interested in any other small historical details you may have found in other entries.

Idea: assassin creed set in Prussia/ Germany

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 01:21 PM PST

I have two ideas for this hypothetical game in Prussia:

    1. set during the rise of Prussia, Frederick the Great, and the Silesian wars
    2. set during the Franco Prussian War, and the birth of the german empire

the game would allow you to explore cities such as berlin, Konigsberg, and maybe Munich. thoughts?

Could Valhalla be setting up a game in the Holy Roman Empire?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 10:09 AM PST

I know by now a lot of us have heard the rumors about assassin's creed champion, which will supposedly be set in Medieval France and/or Germany. I for one don't believe these rumors because Valhalla DLC will include at least part of France, and I highly doubt they'd do it twice in a row. Yes, some game series that jump around in time have entries where you see how a location has changed over the centuries, I'm of course referring to Elder Scrolls. At the same time I think Germany would make a really good setting though.

Something else to mention is that Germany didn't exist in medieval times, instead there was the Holy Roman Empire, which also included parts of Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic) and Austria. Making a game simply focused on modern day Germany would leave out two regions that were integral to the HRE. Plus in addition to the various cities of Germany and Austria, we'd have Prague, which I've heard several people would say would be a good setting. Some other things to note about the potential of a game in the HRE:

    • It lasted centuries, from the 900s all the way to the beginning of the 1800s, so there's plenty of time periods to choose from, including the renaissance, medieval period, black plague, and crusades, which would tie into AC 1.

    • Valhalla mentions England's assassins fleeing to a bureau in Cologne.

    • The game also mentions a lot about the catholic church, and sets up the future rise of the Templars. The irl Knights Templar definitely had influence in the HRE, and were also heavily connected to the Teutonic Order and Knights Hospitalier, which begs the question- were these orders just fronts controlled by the Templars?

    • Prague honestly deserves to be its own game, but since AC focuses on countries/regions rather than cities now, it would simply have to be a major city like Alexandria or Jorvik. In the late 1500s there was an Emperor who lived in Prague, obsessed with alchemy and astrology. He also had a mysterious book called the Voynich Manuscript, a real life book written in an unknown code that's never been translated. Valhalla mentions it was written in Isu language. Could this Emperor have been hunting for Isu artifacts? Were the ideas of alchemy influenced by advanced Isu technology just like Yggdrasil?

    • One of the most requested settings in Assassin's Creed is Medieval Europe, and while Valhalla does include England and will later go to France, it was more focused around the Norse. Just like Origins and Odyssey There are still plenty of assets from England that could be shared with the empire though, which was full of castles regardless of time period.

    • For a lot of its history, the HRE was ruled by the Habsburgs. Yes, those Habsburgs. They seem exactly like the sort of family in the palm by the Templars.

TLDR: I think it's possible that Valhalla is setting up a game in the Holy Roman Empire about the rise of the Templars. Ideally it would include Prague and some occult stuff there.

I'm not saying I think this is going to happen, but this feels like one of the most likely settings, alongside China and the fall of the Aztec Empire. Now that the viking age and ancient greece have been done, my ideal setting is the Spanish colonization of the Inca Empire, but I doubt that one will ever be a thing.
