The chemistry between Desmond, Lucy, Rebecca, and Shaun is what made the modern-day story Posted: 04 Mar 2021 08:52 AM PST I've been replaying the older Assassin's Creed games, back when the creators actually cared about the modern-day, and it dawned on me what it was about the present day that made it so appealing. Obviously you had some cyberpunk undertones of a group of rebels fighting a corporate entity, as well as the Da Vinci Code-level conspiracies that were always ripe for unpacking. But really, on top of all this, what you really had was strong chemistry between the four protagonists. They bounced off each other very well, leading to a lot of natural humor coming about. I still laugh at Desmond telling Shaun to fuck himself after he almost fell off the skyscraper in ACIII. Heck, the foundations for a potential Desmond/Lucy romance before they jumped the shark with her death were there thanks to the strong interplay b/w Nolan North and Kristen Bell. Anyway, just wanted to lay out those thoughts. Shaun and Rebecca continue to be entertaining in the later games, but that lack of camaraderie is what made the modern-day IMO. [link] [comments]

Spoiler: Biggest flaw with odyssey’s story for me Posted: 04 Mar 2021 06:01 PM PST I kinda realised as I was replaying AC odyssey recently that the way your character their friends and family react with regards to the war just makes no sense whatsoever Your character is mad at the cult of kosmos for starting the war and making it go on forever, while at the same time fights for both sides throughout the game You even get missions to kill polymarchs from both sides Weirdest part is no one seems to care. You show up in Athens 2 days after helping Sparta overthrow megaris and no one bats an eye Your mum and Nikolaos don't care that you are killing Spartan troops and helped stop the siege of Athens I know it makes sense to allow you to travel the whole map and be accepted everywhere but it makes the story just kinda laughable Kinda ruins your character too because they are essentially killing their own allies for their own gains without a second thought but somehow you're still the hero of the war [link] [comments]

AC: Origins or AC: Odyssey? Which one did you like more? Posted: 04 Mar 2021 06:17 PM PST My all time fav AC is always going to be black flag. Currently playing through Origins, well just started and it's okay so far but I don't doubt this game will be great. Might pick up Odyssey in the future. What do y'all think? [link] [comments]
[Spoilers] Do you think they scrapped a game? Posted: 04 Mar 2021 10:20 AM PST Since AC1 the games have come in threes, we've had the ezio trilogy, the Americas trilogy, and the Layla trilogy. But before Origins we also had Unity and Syndicate, two similar games. Syndicate ends with Abstergo, who have been researching ISU DNA, acquiring the Shroud of Eden. A plotline at the time was that Juno was planning to find a new body so she can escape The Grey and rejoin the real world. Now at the time there was a lot of noise from the fan base about AC games being churned out, and Ubisoft said okay we'll take a few years break and then release the next one. The Juno plotline was resolved in the comics (and I'm sure the majority of people don't even know that it was resolved because honestly wtf, Ubisoft decided to wrap up their major villain and it didn't happen in game). What if there was supposed to be a game between Syndicate and Origins, that would've made a trilogy with Unity and Syndicate and resolved the Juno story, but it was scrapped because of the break forcing them to resolve everything in the comics? And also I think I know what the answer to this question is but is there a way to change the combat system in the game? To make it slower? [link] [comments]
After not playing assassins creed since 2 it was great to play black flag Posted: 04 Mar 2021 03:13 PM PST Such an amazing game, even though it's def not an ac game at all (despite some missions forcing stealth upon you). I have to say that I loved like 90% of the game. The ship mechanic was; for something new to the game was done so well even though there were a few complaints I have, they were vastly overshadowed by the great things like the shanties, freedom, interactivity and other things. It was unexpected for a game like this to come out of ubisoft and the later games defenitely showed that. It was sad to see they went on to make the current assassins creed games after the amazing game that black flag was. I actually cared about most of the characters in this game and the ending was very good. It would be nice for assassins creed to go back to this way but I feel like there's no hope unless something massive happends. [link] [comments]
I hate how absurd and fantasy-like this franchise has become. I hate what it has become in general. Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:38 AM PST Yes, before you start, I'm aware that this franchise is anything but fantasy and absurd, but bear with me. This franchise in it's hey-day had a baseline of realism and groundedness it tried to maintain. It at least tried to stay grounded within the confines of it's lore and setting. It gave us breath takingly immersive settings with methodical combat that feels great and looks great. The armor was on point, the environment was on point, the weaponry was on point, the combat, on point, the NPCs and their reactions to player actions was on point. The way they executed the underlying philosophy and melancholic feeling of the old games that served the setting and story well, was on point. These were all perfect, before all these new games tore them all down. And I despise what it has become, as a fan that has grown up with the franchise since day 1. It just feels really cartoony and silly now. Not just in the way the gameplay is presented, but the way everything is presented, really. But most importantly, it feels soulless now. It's worth noting this isn't the fault of the writers, but something more along the lines of there being a disconnect between the writing and the game philosophy/design. Everything is seemingly more exaggerated in this new trilogy. From the oversized enemies to the way you swing your weapon. All the fights in Odyssey and Valhalla look like something straight out of a Tom and Jerry episode. Origins at least somewhat tried to stay grounded in historical reality as it's first entry to this new genre. When it came to the combat, the aesthetic of the setting, armor, and weapons were great. It only became ridiculous if you compelled it to, by buying the silly cosmetics from the Helix store. Then Valhalla and Odyssey came along with their absurdities. Ridiculous armor sets, combat, and general aesthetic that looks like it came straight out of The Elder Scrolls franchise. Hell, even Elder Scrolls has aesthetics that would fit the historical settings of both games far better than their own. Valhalla doing this the worst, with it's Skyrim-esque legendary epic armor sets. Or it's biker BDSM Viking leather and fur pelts that they absolutely didn't wear back then. Or the fact that they added literal flails that didn't exist until 1218, during Altaïr's time. Or oversized greatswords that make you look like Cloud from Final Fantasy. And don't even get me started on the black Vikings and Anglo Saxons, and black Grecians. And the literal monster bosses in Odyssey/Valhalla that make no sense. Why are we fighting massive creatures? You had every enemy you encountered turning into human catapults in slapstick fashion, with every wallop you inflicted upon them. As well as your character looking like he/she is skating on ice. On top of that as well, you also had such unrealistic and silly abilities. Such as taking zero to no fall damage, teleporting assassinations, dual wielding two fucking Isu weapons at once like some sort of mad schizoid Isu, or dropping from above with a spear and exploding everyone within your radius as if you're performing an Overwatch ultimate ability. And then all these fire-based, poison-based weapons. And on, and on, and on it goes, in a never ending list. You get the point. It takes me out of it when I look back on it. It's all just so tiring at this point. You just know what the suits at Ubisoft think at this point. You know they only want to pander to the lowest common denominator who doesn't know an Assassin from a Templar. They want to turn this franchise into an epic historical RPG fantasy that has nothing to do with stealth or philosophy, and only there to induce your brain with constant mindless RPG drivel. Sure, these games have assassinations and stealth, but are only there to satiate old veterans and trick them into believing it is still Assassin's Creed, and serves no purpose beyond that. And based on the conference call from Ubisoft not too long ago, it seems like it won't get any better for this franchise. For shame. To be fair, don't read this absolute wall of text thinking I hate these games. I don't. I actually quite enjoy them, but not for AC. I have to mentally go into these games knowing it isn't Assassin's Creed and pretending it's just a regular RPG. And that sucks. I'm just so disappointed that we went from scrapping the crossbow from the very first AC for not being historically accurate, to pure silliness being excused and chalked up to animus fuckery for the sake of gameplay purposes in order to pacify dumb zoomers with attention deficits. Lest we forget amongst all this negativity in the sub - we all agree on one thing, and that this franchise needs to get it's shit, and it's identity, back together. Because it has completely lost both. It needs to return back to it's roots, back to historical groundedness not only in setting, but also in gameplay. Also, for crying out loud Ubisoft. I can't believe this has to be said but if you wanna make a new franchise that is based on historical settings that doesn't have AC in it, make a new IP. Don't debase Assassin's Creed. Leave the sneaky stabbing to one IP, and the strong warrior for another. [link] [comments]
Valhalla’s story has one of the best moder world story but fails with its archs Posted: 05 Mar 2021 12:19 AM PST For me, Valhalla has one of the best modern world story and the one with the most lore around the Isu but as I was playing through the game I didn't care anymore about the story of the places and the characters who died there I just wanted to know what was happening at camp and with Leyla [link] [comments]

Holy Isu the dialog system in Odyssey is worse than I remember. Posted: 04 Mar 2021 12:13 PM PST I'm actually a bigger fan of not having "player choice" for every thing in every game. Sometimes less is more. It worked perfectly in Origins. A cutscene happens, I'm able to just sit back and take in the written characters for who they are. Valhalla implemented the dialog system from Odyssey, but at least they felt important to the quest or set the tone. At least the acting and motion capture felt dynamic most of the time. I would still prefer AC games to not have this system (just make a new IP with a blank slate character like Elder Scrolls and then we'll see), but Odyssey like everything else it does in its gameplay puts up these extra barriers that pads out the game when there shouldn't be any padding. The basic white dialog choices are optional, but they're also part of the dialog and story. You get to know more from each character on the story, the quest, etc. I hate having to click on each one in a stiff cutscene. Of course I'm going to click on these options; they don't need to be optional. Just tell the story in one go without breaking in-between the most standard and basic dialog that pertains to the quest. There's one too many non-impactful dialogue choices that don't need to be broken into selections. Keep the meaningful ones that resolve or change the story there, not 20 white dialog choices for a simple quest. [link] [comments]
[SPOILER] Why do Modern Day story lines get Abandoned? Posted: 04 Mar 2021 08:47 AM PST After thinking about it for a few days I've realised that the only story line that was never abandoned was Desmond's and I have no idea why, do Ubisoft themselves just get bored of the modern stories they have tried to tell? I mean even with Desmond they abandoned a few arcs that could've evolved into something spectacular, Like the Adam and Eve stories namely the "Find Eve" stuff that Juno said to Desmond why did they not follow up on that?! I remember speculating that Eve ended up starting the Assassin's and Adam becoming The Father of Understanding for the Templar's (We obviously now know Even didn't start the Assassin's but I think it would be interesting for Adam to be The Father of Understanding). Regardless, I just can't fathom why Ubisoft seem to abandon so many, what's going on with Dr. Gramatica and how does he plan to remake the Isu? What was all this business with Bishop? Where did she go? Why did they skip so many years of Layla Hassan becoming an Assassin and being given her own cell of Assassin's? Its so frustrating because I used to love the Modern day stories but after Desmond it became fragmented and all over place, at least the last 3 games have stuck to one story and now seem to be moving away from it yet staying in the same vain, It just annoys me are reading the books and comics THAT vital to staying in touch with the morden day stories? Does Valhalla offer more progression and less restrictions than Odyssey? Posted: 04 Mar 2021 07:28 PM PST Personally, I loved Origins. You could turn off enemy scaling, and you could max out your levels for every item and all stats. In Odyssey, enemy scaling is always no more than 4 levels behind, and it's literally impossible to max out all your stats. If you level up stealth, then your combat is weaker, and so on. I couldn't even do stealth kills. Is Valhalla any better? I don't mind the grind, but are stealth kills back? Can you max out all your stats? Is enemy scaling toned down at all?
