Finally went back to play AC2 and was SHOCKED

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 05:43 AM PST

I started playing AC when AC3 came out and haven't missed an installment since. I recently started following this sub and see all this love for the games before 3 that I never gave the time of day. I just figured this was nostalgia and that I wouldn't enjoy these games because they are too out of date. But last week I saw the Ezio trilogy on sell on Xbox and went ahead and blew some Microsoft points on it. I figured if it sucked I wouldn't be out any cash on it.

I started with AC2 and am probably only 1/4 of the way through and I am completely shocked at how wrong I was. I never realized how far the franchise has strayed from the original style of these games. AC3 & 4 aren't too far off but still not the same. The free running is amazing, the simplicity and compact nature of the maps is refreshing, and the story is legit. I think I was most shocked at how good the game looks in this refreshed version on XboxOne. I thought I'd play it a little and lose interest but I have played nothing else for a week. (Except snow runner, gotta still get some snow runner in there)

I have all these games I've been waiting for all year (WDL, ACV, Cyperpunk) and I'm more engaged with this 2 generation old masterpiece. I cannot wait to go through the other 2 games in the trilogy, but I'm going to savor it.

In conclusion, thank all of you diehards who are still posting about these games enough to finally convince me to buy in.

Smack my Bishop is the best find in Valhalla so far

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 03:29 PM PST

The little Easter eggs and tributes are amazing in many games. Valhalla has raised the bar with tribute to the Prodigy front man Keith Flint that died last year. I'm not a Prodigy fan but hearing the small band sing "Smack my Bishop" and then saying "He's a fire starter" when I blew up the wall nearby was perfect. Keep up the good work!

Basims armour, I want it, we need it, it has to be available soon, just has to. Its the best assassin armour in the entire series for crying out loud, i would even be fine with hythams because thats also brilliant just not as good as basims

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 12:06 PM PST

Ubisoft I will give you so much money to get nasims outfit, idc about stats, I can live with bad stats like with bayeks outfit, because truthfully, builds don't matter in this game and I can't lie, I love that. But just give us basims outfit, I will literally do anything

UNITY GRAPHICS in Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered

UNITY GRAPHICS in Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered

I think I finally managed to recreate the AC Unity "look" (the baked lighting) thanks to Raytracing Global Illumination and how well it plays with this iteration (the o.g. AC3's has many quirks that prevent it from taking full advantage of any depth shaders).

    Here are some shots

This post was originally more technically detailed but it got auto deleted by a dumb bot (Bishop, of course, lmao true to character) so I'm keeping it simple and see if it goes through... -_-

I hate that the coolest/strongest sets in Valhalla are seemingly all in the ubisoft store.

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 09:04 PM PST

In Odyssey, there were so many different Epic/Legendary sets that you could just find in the main game, and they were all extremely viable. I never felt like the strongest gear in Odyssey was put behind a pay wall, but I definitely feel that way with Valhalla. I haven't completed every single armor set yet, but the gear in the store definitely seems just as, if not stronger than anything you can find in the game. I wouldn't mind Ubisoft cutting down on the total number of armor sets, if they were to make all of them feel special, but nothing in the base game really jumps out at me as being particularly badass or unique. Still love the game; the loot is just pretty disappointing.

What if Assassins Creed focused on night time stealth?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 02:24 PM PST

I'm picturing the early Splinter Cell games where you knew how visible you were depending on the light.

I think keeping open combat is a must have, but running across roof tops, hanging from beams or just lurking in the shadows would add a new element of stealth to this game.

It would also open up to different skills/ gear. What would you use to extinguish lanterns? Could different cloaks stand out less?

Just some ramblings that I'd love to see.

Putting my hood on in distrust zones and slowly walking through the streets with drunks and groups of monks gives me exciting goosebumps!

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 05:03 AM PST

Feels to good not to share with fellow assassins.

I have been on this journey since the day of Altaïr and loved origins and odyssey aswell for their own merits. Origins deserts and specially Odisseys huge map was gorgeous to sail through. I went into this game as blind as I could and I am only 10 hours in but OH wow does it feel good to out that hood on, Eivor puts the cape over the shoulders and slowly walks through distrust zones using social stealth. I had no idea how much I missed this. And the fact that there are actual assassins again. Loving it! Have fun everyone !

I like that they reduced the necessity of the bird

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 12:48 PM PST

Feel like I'm in the minority when I say this but honestly this is one of the best changes from Origins and Odyssey to Valhalla imo. I really disliked how completely essential it was to use the bird in those games. Having to use it to locate treasures and enemies in a location everywhere you went took me out of it too much. The return of eagle vision is so nice because I don't have to stop playing my assassins creed game and instead play flying sim "fiddle with the boldened reticle until all the enemies/treasure finally pop up" mini game anymore.

Don't get me wrong I like the idea. It's cool to be able to get a literal birds eye view of your surroundings and where you want to go without having to pull up a map. But I'm glad it's more of an optional thing now except for a few instances. And those instances being just go into raven, find the general quest area, get out, go. Quick and easy. It doesn't break the flow of the game anymore and it's great.

Dead Kings DLC is damn good!

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 09:03 AM PST

I finished the main story and had just gotten to the DLC Dead Kings(Franciade DLC)

I played the main game and after each mission, the story just kept getting worse.

But the first mission in the Franciade DLC got me hooked!Man it is awesome.

I found Leon and I chased a person who appeared to be Elise. And I just want to keep playing more to know more of the story.

It is more interesting than the main game!

How do you rank the era's of assassin's creed

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 06:32 PM PST

    1. Original/Ezio trilogy (Ac1-Ac2-Brotherhood-Revelations)

    2. Kenway trilogy (Ac3-Black flag-Rogue)

    3. Modern duology (Unity-Syndicate)

    4. RPG trilogy (Origins-Odyssey-Valhalla)

    For me it's Kenway trilogy>Original/Ezio trilogy>Modern

The first two era's are really close but the third is a bit of a step down for me

I haven't played the Rpgs yet but I want to know how ye rank them

By far the best skill based combat system in an Assassin's Creed game.

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:45 AM PST

So I'm 15 hours in, I just arrived in England did a few story missions but for the most part of my game time, I just explored and collected wealth.

I am Power Level 55 and I am really impressed by how the game allows you to fight much higher level enemies without making the fights impossible.

I just defeated Regan at my current Power Level and I have to say, I haven't played a game that made me so proud of myself and also rewarded me for doing it.

By far the best combat in an AC game that rewards skill and reflexes compared to locking you behind a level.

    Ubisoft, keep it up!

What is your preference? Historical accuracy or Historical fantasy

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 11:40 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

One of the things I loved about both Origins and Odyessy was the historical accuracy. Both in terms of world design, weapons, clothing, and especially cities. I really enjoyed walking around and exploring the world, looking at the city, its buildings, its people, seeing how people live day by day. Seeing how the great pyramids looked back in the day for example.

I'm not a historian by any means, but Valhalla felt a bit too...fantasy esque. I decided to do some reading about Danes and their history, and it appears Valhalla has really gone down the fantasy route this time around. This game just seems significantly less historically accurate than the prior games. I believe this was an intentional design choice for this game, which is perfectly fine. Its the route they chose to go down.

However, I'm curious as to what peoples preferences are. Do you prefer the fantasy route or siding with the more mundane but historically accurate route? Personally, I'm a bit disappointed, since I found these games a great time to learn about the history of the land and its people, and would take a lot of time analyzing the architecture and culture. I've taken Valhalla as...a movie aka Hollywood history. Just pretty things to look at, but not putting much weight into it.

Hey guys never played a assassinscreed game and want to get into one.

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:46 PM PST

alright so as the title says I have never played one and I want to know if any of them have where like your choices matter and if none of them have that which has the most fun stealth cause i don't really want a hack and slash cause i can play jedi fallen order if i want that thanks.

Can Anyone give me some pros and cons to Valhalla?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 05:28 PM PST

I've finished every AC game besides Russia and China chronicles. When they initially released I was harsh towards Origins and Odyssey and ended up enjoying both games. What makes Valhalla great for a fan of the series? And what should I be wary of?

A lot of things add up and really make the second half of Valhalla a drag IMO. [Spoilers]

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 12:03 PM PST

I really enjoyed both Origins and Odyssey and was looking forward to Valhalla, even if I personally didn't have much interest in vikings. And the first half of Valhalla was good, IMO. I really enjoyed the story as it led from Norway to settling England to having to forge alliances with your neighbors. It was grounded and characters like Soma and her arc were interesting with choices that felt like they had an impact.

But then you start making other alliances, which don't have the same choices/consequences or have story arcs that just bleed into each other because of how similar they are. You start exploring more of the zones and seeing how similar things are to one another. From the point where you rescue Sigurd from Fulke and onwards, the entire game really starts to drag and get worse and worse. Things that I thought were cool like the finisher animations became annoying as they locked me away from combat in big battles and just prolonged fights

Maybe I'm more easily annoyed than everyone else is. But having just completed the game yesterday, there were so many little things that really bothered me. The worst are things that start cool and end up annoying, the rest of just more consistently nuisances:

    • The forced camera/cutscenes during finishers. These really get annoying when you're in a big battle and go from cool to just frustration. And they can happen again and again in the bigger fights towards the end of the game and in the castle sieges, to where it can feel like you're spending more time watching the finishers than actually fighting.

    • Making it so every single little thing is behind a barred door or some sort of navigation puzzle. Cool the first few times, but then it happens again and again and again and just gets old and tiresome. It feels like the designers were so focused on making each specific thing feel like a challenge or something you had to earn that they forgot how the experience would be when you're 60 hours in. And this is a design issue, because they've been patching out all the ways to get past barred doors. But here's the thing, maybe they should ask themselves why people wanted these faster methods in the first place? Finding the right entrance to a building isn't fun anymore after you've already done it a hundred times.

    • Level scaling changes making the game more time-consuming and long. It should have been optional rather than a forced part of the update. And while the mastery system probably helps a bit, there isn't a discernible difference between 30 and 90 skill points in each rank from what I've seen so what is the point? It's just a place to sink extra points into so people feel like they're progressing.

    • The mounts slowing down when going uphill! And also when you first engage in combat - there's zero reason this should happen unless you get hit. Plus the random beasts/bandits in the road stop being fun or challenging and just become nuisances.

    • And last, the story. It's silly that you have to clear every single zone. It's silly that they're all so repetitive - other than a handful of characters, few of them end up memorable because they're all some variant of "person in that place that I needed to ally with." I remember Soma. I remember Ceolbert and Ivarr. I remember the place with the Samhain arc. But everything else is pretty forgettable. I don't think trying to make vikings the good guys works really well; at best it's really inaccurate to history, and it feels weird when every arc boils down to "vikings good and strong, Saxons weak and bad." And Sigurd is just an ass. It's terrible what Fulke did to him, but he was an ass before that and he was even worse after. I had zero investment in his journey. And Basim is even worse, being unable to distinguish the people he knew in the past from the people he sees now. It's an interesting twist in concept but the way it plays out makes me just dislike him. It's really surprising to me that people in this sub are saying it's well written or their favorite AC story, as I thought the previous games were much better (out of this new history RPG trilogy). Plus some of the traditional AC games like Brotherhood, Black Flag, or Rogue I thought were more interesting in terms of story.

And that's not even getting into the ending of the Eivor arc, which is just a giant WTF. After everything Aelfred puts you through, you rush through to get one single town and then it's like "okay guys, cool, we did it" and everyone goes home. Then you finish the Order arc and find him in a village and you're just...cool now? Like, what? How does any of that make sense? I get they have to leave him alive to match history, but if that's the case then maybe have a different person as your big bad? It was really really unsatisfying and clear that it was rushed to try and squeeze a conclusion in.

Without any spoilers: How does AC Valhalla compare to AC Odyssey?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:16 PM PST

I am a first timer with Assassin's Creed and started with Valhalla, to say the least - I love it and I'm excited to potentially play AC Odyssey after. Just wanted to know how it compares to Valhalla? Is it pretty similar? Or was there a big jump from Odyssey to Valhalla? Please no spoilers. Thanks!!

In Valhalla can you play the entire games with a specialized build or are you more jack of all trades like in origins?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 07:29 PM PST

Just wondering, can you progress through the game with specialized builds like you could in odyssey? As in like strictly archery. Or a stealth build. Or a full on warrior build. Or are you more forced into a jack of all trades role? Like origins

It’s too damn hard to pick an armor set in this game

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 11:11 PM PST

The mentor outfit, brigandine, thegn.. all good armor sets and I have no clue which to upgrade further and keep using lmao. Might upgrade brigandine because I've been using it, and upgrading the armor you've been using gives pretty much the same vibe as the beskar armor in the mandalorian

Why do people act is if having "Assassin" in the name means that AC has to be a series of stealth games?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 10:16 PM PST

People often lament the series recent lack of emphasis on stealth, saying that "assassin" is in the name, so you should have to sneak around. However, assassination is basically just the targeted murder of a figure for political/religious purposes. I think as long as we maintain the idea of eliminating Templars, giving players a choice on how to go about it is a positive. I've been playing since AC2, and I never really thought Ubisoft did a stellar job of creating a stealth game. The stealth mechanics just never really seemed to shine in any of the games to me, and the sections where I was forced to use stealth were never really any fun. The games may benefit from the world treating you differently depending on how you tackle assassinations (not better or worse, just differently), but I definitely prefer not being forced to use stealth in these games.
