Valhalla will have 30+ Assassination Targets, ALL OF THEM will have corridor confessions.

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 10:04 AM PDT

Darby McDevitt confirms that some confessions depending on the importance of the target will be shorter or longer.

    Between 30-40 Targets.

Pretty much the Cultist system from Odyssey on crack, whilst at the same time looking like its more fleshed out.

Confirmed Locations(looking like a MASSIVE game):

-England (bigger than the Origins map by itself)

    -Norway

    -America aka Vinland

    -Asgard

    -Jötunheimr

Darby sees this game as the 3rd (and final-ish) act of the Egypt/Greek/Norse Mythology trilogy series.

    Interview:

EDIT: Seeing so many positive comments, people being hyped and excited about AC again. Its....wonderful.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Deep Dive Trailer

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 09:01 AM PDT

People do know that Atlantis in Odyssey was a simulation correct?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 04:15 AM PDT

EDIT: I know this will be downvoted cause people just want to hate on Odyssey no matter what.

EDIT 2: Thanks for the good discussion. I really wanted to get this off my chest because while I agree that in many areas Odyssey fell short, sometimes I believe the hate/criticism against Odyssey is a bit overblown and not based in fact.

    ------‐----------

I keep hearing people talk about how they hope the mythology locations like Asgard (and possibly Valhalla) are grounded such as a dream or hallucination as opposed to being a real life place like Atlantis/Hades in Odyssey.

Well, people do know that even in Odyssey Atlantis and Hades was done in a grounded way. Kassandra just essentially went through simulation created by the Isu for Kassandra to better understand. She never actually went to THE Atlantis or THE Hades. She never actually to to the REAL Poseidon and so on. So why do people here keep acting like the locations in Odyssey were real and Kassandra actually visited these places?

I get it, people here believe Odyssey was the single most worst creation in human history next to slavery and the atom bomb so any opportunity they get to point to a reason why Valhalla is doing something better they take note. But lets be real here, you never actually visited those places in Odyssey as those were simulations, not the real thing. So why do people keep thinking they are?

BONUS: People also talk about the "magic" that was used in Odyssey. Well, all that was explained by the use of the spear of Leonidas which like ALL OTHER pieces of Eden, offer supernatural abilities. Yes, previous AC games never used those abilities the way Odyssey did but that does not mean the capabilities were never there. Everything that happened in Odyssey feel within AC lore and capabilities, it is just that Odyssey actually explored those capabilities whereas other AC games never did. It isn't like for Odyssey Isu tech was retconned and/or created for Odyssey, no, Isu tech has always been known to have super natural abilities.

They brought back the hidden blade/assassination noise in Valhalla!

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 01:21 PM PDT

In Jorraptor's new stealth & combat gameplay video the hidden blade audio cue from the old games has been added back in for the aerial assassinations. This a small little touch but immediately made me geek out as a huge fan of the older games.

    AC Valhalla PC Specs Revealed

North America in Assassin's Creed Valhalla??

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 10:39 AM PDT

The new deep dive trailer of Valhalla mentions possible new worlds. The narrator says, "From Norway to England to new worlds" and we see this scene of a guy rowing a canoe. Both the guy and the canoe clearly look native american. As we already know, Vikings were the first Europeans to reach North America. It's highly possible that Eivor might set sail toward the new world.

So what do you guys think? Are we going to explore parts of North America? or maybe just Iceland or Greenland? Maybe a dlc in America? It'll be fun to watch Eivor as he discovers America.

I loved this series, but have been gone for a long time. (old spoilers)

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 05:52 PM PDT

I was absolutely enthralled with modern storyline, or what I might call, the overarching storyline. I played all the games up to the end of 3. I loved the build up of Desmond. I loved how he was becoming an assassin through the "bleed through" effect. I was really excited to see a modern day AC game come to fruition, when seemingly out of nowhere, the end of AC3 abruptly ends with his death.

I was so incredibly outraged, and it left such a sour taste in my mouth, that I haven't really touched the series since. I tried playing Black Flag, Unity and Origins, but I just couldn't get into them as much because the Assassin's Creed story to me, was about Desmond, the Modern Day Templars and Assassins, and how they would get the information to find all of the pieces of Eden. I know most of you probably hated the modern day stuff, so I get why it was thrown out. But they could have at least finished his story.

Anyways, what I'm trying to say and ask is: as an old player who once loved this series, is there a main, overarching story that connects all of the rest of the games together still? Or are they just all random memories? Does Abstergo even exist anymore? I would love to get back into these games, but I won't if Ubisoft is determined to underwhelm and sweep major plots under the rug. Should I give it another go?

Which historical figure(s) in the series do you think was done the most justice, and which do you think was done the least justice?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 07:53 PM PDT

In my personal opinion, I think Suleiman the Magnificent might be the best. Though still a young prince and not yet Sultan, you can see the foundations for the greatness his reign was marked by such as his capacity for learning and open-mindedness. He has an understanding of how to rule much better than Ahmet and Selim do.

Conversely, I think they could've done better with George Washington. Most of the game is spent highlighting his failures as a person and the conclusion to his role in the story is that these failures pretty much define him rather than his accomplishments in winning the War of Independence and his stance against partisanship in politics.

Do we know how hood outfits will work in Valhalla yet?

About the map of England (Valhalla)

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 10:41 PM PDT

    Hey

I wanted to ask is there any reason why the whole of England isn't included in the game?

I know that the game is going to have a lot of locations already (England, Norway, America and Asgard) but it's still kinda weird that you, as a viking raider would not extend your conquest through the whole island

Is is it because they only focusing on the lands of the 4 big kingdoms at that time? while the rest of the locations weren't controlled by anyone important or weren't as interesting to explore? or perhaps they are holding off for some kind of a dlc in Scotland and Ireland

Theory on both genders being canon: another direction. No animus glitches, no Isu ancestors, no genderfluid vikings. Odyssey DLC spoiler.

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 07:20 AM PDT

Spoilers of the Atlantis DLC ending: Otso Berg, who is a templar with vikings in his lineage (source - either AC4 or Rogue, the MD section involved a corresponding audio) is incapacitated by Layla.

I'm pretty sure he's captured by Assassins and he may be used as a DNA source for Eivor's memories.

So, the question is if he may voluntarily do something the assassins want from him. For example, he and Layla may both be the animus users who are the MD protagonist. As a result, if the assumption that relevant gender of Eivor will change according to missions AND this is the default option, we may relive different memories which are percieved by the Animus user regarding the user's gender.

He may not even be a cooperator, he may be in coma and he and Layla may be plugged into Animus simultaneously with their consciousnesses intertwined.

So, both options are canon as the difference is on the level of the plugged in animus user gender, not the actual person in the viking age. Animus shows reality but what if the user's perspective, especially if the mind is broken/enhanced with the Staff influence, plays the part?

    Thoughts?

I've played every single Assassin's Creed on launch day since the beginning. I've got the collectors edition for every entry in the franchise. And I've got a very good feeling about Valhalla.

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 12:05 PM PDT

Now the title might make you think I shill every game in the series regardless of its quality. Its true that I might give even the rougher round the edges games a bit more leeway than they deserve and I try to give each game credit for what it brings. But I also try to remain unbiased and objective, being critical where necessary.

For example, I can admit that Unity was buggy, suffered from framerate issues and poorly implemented coop while also praising its updated stealth mechanics, fantastic parkour and brotherhood oriented story.

    Anyway, I digress.

I personally enjoyed origins' fresh take on the AC formula. I think it's one of the best entries in the franchise, if not the best. The world was stunningly beautiful, Bayek and Aya where great characters and I think the RPG mechanics lend themselves well to the franchise. You could play however you wanted, focusing on either stealth, combat, ranged or a blend of any. But despite how much I loved it, it did feel like some of that original Assassin's Creed flavour was missing. The stealth was great but what about social stealth? I liked the combat but what about hidden blade combat? Takedowns?

Odyssey was... OK. It deviated too far from what made Assassin's Creed in the first place. I find myself enjoying Odyssey a lot more when I just sort of forget its an AC game. Its a great game, its just not a great AC game.

What I want from Assassin's Creed right now is a blend of what made the original series (AC 1 through to IV) great and what I love from the newer, more RPG focused iterations.

And that's what I think Valhalla is going to deliver. So many of my favourite features rolled into one game.

    Brutal combat with finisher animations

    Tools like the rope dart

    Building my own settlement

Social AND classic stealth, even using a cloak to blend in and hide your weapons

A blend of history and mythology

    Ship exploration

    My own group of companions

    Instant hidden blade kills

individual armour parts that I can collect to make my own Assassin look unique

And so many more. It feels like the greatest hits collection of features from all the previous games and that excites me. There's something for everyone here.

AC: Valhalla Hands-On [WorthPlaying] - "It may not be the update that everyone is expecting, but it may be the Assassin's Creed remix that Ubisoft needs to keep the series feeling fresh."

For all the talk about making Valhalla's combat weighty and visceral I can't believe they signed off on that dodge animation

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 10:59 AM PDT

I want to make clear that I think Valhalla looks amazing and I am very hyped however I can't believe they decided to sign off on that dodge animation! It looks as floaty and weightless as the gameplay reveal trailer for AC Origins, which they changed based on feedback for release. Granted Eivor isn't a massive warrior-Viking however they are still a very tough and brutish fighter. That dodge literally looks like they are gliding around on ice during combat. The game looks amazing but this is really taking me out of it. I'm sure its different when playing versus watching but I can't help but get completely thrown when seeing it.
