Questions about Unity for a normal xbox one Posted: 22 Sep 2020 09:05 PM PDT Hey guys, I want to get unity. I loved the graphics and stealth of syndicate, but boy were the characters bland, fighting wasn't fun (but the stealth was), and the parkour/ free running didn't look/feel cool (plus the zipline mitigating a bunch of that). But my main problem with syndicate was that I didn't feel like an assassin. I felt like I was just a wacko running around london with no connections to the great history of the brotherhood. I have played revelations, and I like the combat more, but the lack of stealth isn't fun and the parkour is ok. Ever since I saw unity I fell in love. The free running looks awesome, it seems to have good stealth, it seems to be pretty deep, and I've heard that some people think that it had the best combat. but people saying that it was the worst AC kept me from it. Is it really a bug-ridden mess? Is Arno that bad? Is multiplayer that broken? Or was it because people were getting sick of the AC formula and forgot all the good stuff while focusing on the negative. I've done some research but there seems to be so much conflict. What are your opinions? [link] [comments]
Is there any particular reason why AC1 hasn’t been remade or remastered yet? Posted: 22 Sep 2020 02:30 PM PDT It seems odd to me. I jumped into the franchise around the time of AC3, and I've tried numerous times to go back and play AC1 unsuccessfully. I feel like it could really benefit from some more color depth, better voice acting, less repetitive information gathering for assassinations. Has there been any particular reason that Ubi hasn't gone back and touched AC1? I feel like it would be a great time to revitalize it and reintroduce it to newer AC fans! [link] [comments]

The Lost City of Barara and the Ethiopian-Adal War - Mildly Obscure Setting Discussions Posted: 22 Sep 2020 09:00 AM PDT A common trait Assassin's Creed groups have is the constant theorizing about future settings, because historical tourism is one of the best parts of the series. Many fans want pretty cliche settings such as the American Civil War and Wild West, World War 2, Ancient Rome, and Feudal Japan. Most of these popular settings will be discussed in my series on commonly suggested settings. The common thread between all settings in this series of posts is that they have not appeared on a Ubisoft poll or survey that can be easily found (China, Japan, Rome), they are not overly requested settings by the fanbase (see wild west and world war 2), and they all are relatively known enough to be marketable to a broad base. In each of these posts, I'll be discussing map areas, cities, architecture, culture, wars, historical events, historical characters, broad conjecture on how AC could work with this, and any existing lore in this area. As strange as it may sound, early 16th century the Horn of Africa is an amazing setting for Assassin's Creed. Now, I think I scared a bunch of people because when they hear Ethiopia or Somalia, they think about small huts and dusty deserts like this. I want you to clear that from your mind completely, because early 16th century Ethiopia (also known as Abyssinia), was very different! The vast majority of Ethiopia is lush mountains and plateaus like this. At this point, the majority of northern and western Ethiopia belonged to the Christian Abyssinians while part of the Northern Ethiopia and Eritrea belonged to the Christian Kingdom, Medri Bahri. This area was a little drier and arider but had the added bonus of easy ports. Despite the limitations on ports, Abyssinia was a hotspot for trade and European tourism. In Southern Ethiopia is where small villages were seen, as this was land controlled by the Oromo tribes, who were unable to take any land due to the power of the surrounding kingdoms. In the 14th century, Fra Mauro detailed Ethiopian lands showing them to be vast (please note his map is "upside-down". To the East is where the Adal Sultanate controlled in what is now Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Somalia. To the east of this were the Arujan and Mogadishu Sultanates that controlled the majority of Somalia's Coastline, and had strong alliances with the Adals. The northern part of Somalia is far arider and desert, while the south is more of a savannah, home to many animals including Giraffes and crocodiles. These cities were not just huts either, but appear to have been small metropolises and had massive castles. The map from Fra Mauro shows large walls and imposing towers, multi-colored, and hidden in large valleys or standing atop mountains. The majority of buildings from this time are erased from history, but some ruins remain showing the beginnings of what may have been a once-thriving city combining Roman and Islamic architectural styles while also having several underground churches and compounds (perhaps we could see another version of Cappadocia from revelations. At the center of Ethiopia, near the modern capital of Addis Ababa, is the lost capital of Ethiopia, Barara, and likely home to an Isu Vault. Dawit II, an alleged descendant of Solomon the Wise, ruled Abyssinia from 1507 at the age of 11 with his mother Eleni as his regent until 1516, during which time she requested aid from the Portuguese to secure the eastern border which was under threat from the Adal Sultanate, receiving aid from the Ottomans. The Portuguese were actively competing with the Ottomans and involved in several conflicts, so did not come immediately. Muhammad ibn Azhar ad-Din, the Sultan of Adal attempted to keep the peace, which was quickly broken by his Emir and Governor of Zeila, Mahfuz. Dawit returned by attacking Zeila with Portuguese in 1517 and killing Mahfuz. Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad of the Adal Sultanate used this time to found the city of Harar in 1520 and use it as a staging ground to launch counter-offensives. Gaban Abun ibn Adash used this time to kill ad-Din and seize control for himself, despite only being related through marriage. In 1525, Abu Bakr battled and killed ibn Adash, taking control for himself, though only a year later was battled and killed by Imam Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Ghazi who placed his brother Umar Din as Sultan as he became General. The Portuguese had arrived in Barara in 1523, and seeing the in-fighting from the Adal Sultanate, believed the border was secure. They withdrew from Ethiopia in 1529, at which point, al-Ghazi began his invasion of the Abyssinian Empire. The Battle of Shimbra Kure is the first known battle of the war, and it was fought near modern Addis Ababa likely where Barara was. Al-Ghazi likely used matchlock-men compared to the swords, bows, and spears of the Ethiopian Army. The Somalis decimated the several thousand strong cavalry with just 200 men. The next battle was 2 years later quite a bit North, and it would make sense that Dawit, having lost Barara, retreated and began using Gondar as their new capital. Al-Ghazi would then spend years here trying to find the hidden Isu site. During this, his wife gave birth and encouraged him to wage a Jihad against the Christian Abbysinians, who now allied with the Medri Bahri in the North. Al-Ghazi then swiftly won at the Battle of Antukyah and Battle of Amba Sel now completely controlling the southern Abyssinian. And then we have another massive lull in battles for nearly 10 years following the failure to take the imperial compound of Amba Geshen. During those 10 years, the Arujan/ Mogadishu Sultanate entered open conflict with the Portuguese, and they and the Ottomans were large supporters of the Adals and Al-Ghazi. I believe, despite the lack of recordings, that Al-Ghazi may have taken control of Barara and used it as staging to continue small scale raids across Ethiopia while securely sending aid to the Arujans. João de Sepúlveda and Tristão da Cunha would sack Barawa (a different city from Barara) and then lead an attack against Mogadishu due to it being the richest city in Africa at that time. Al-Ghazi was known to be taking silver, gold, and other treasures out of Ethiopia, perhaps João was trying to recover an artifact sent to Mogadishu? During this time, Arujans began counter-offensives in Kenya as well, trying to drive Portuguese out of Mombasa, Pate, and Kilwa. Mombasa was a large city and it too holds an Isu Vault. The Battle of Benadir in 1542 eventually allows a temporary truce between the Portuguese and Arujan. At some point during the war in Ethiopia though, it's believed that Al-Ghazi razed the city of Barara, completely destroying it. Menas, the son of Dawit was captured in 1539, held as a hostage for several years in Yemen. In 1540 the attacks hastened with the monastery of Debre Libanos burned and Amba Geshen taken and looted with all prisoners executed. Dawit II had again reached out to the Portuguese for assistance but died in 1540 before they arrived. Gelawdewos, his second son, became Emperor and welcomed Cristóvão da Gama, son of Vasco da Gama as a military leader. Cristóvão would lead the Ethiopians and Portuguese to victory in a series of battles pushing the invading Muslim forces from the Red Sea's coast south as they retreated, trying seemingly trying to reach Goddar. Eventually, in 1542, Cristóvão's winning streak came to an end at the Battle of Wofla. During the retreat, he was struck in the arm by a bullet, and during the night while hiding, was hunted down by Imam Ahmed's men, where he brought before the Imam. Cristóvão was tortured for information all night before being executed. I can definitely see this being a mission in the game to rescue Cristóvão and arriving just too late, and then failing to kill Imam Ahmed. A few months later, Emperor Gelawdewos led the Battle of Wayna Daga, not far from Goddar. During that battle in 1543, allegedly a lone Portuguese Rifle-man charged through the Somali lines and shot Al-Ghazi. With their leader dead, all the Somalis immediately fled the battle. That is honestly like straight Assassin's Creed. I can definitely see Al-Ghazi controlling an apple, and as soon he's dead the illusion is broken. During this after-math, Al-Ghazi's son is captured and ransomed back to the Somalis In the years following, Nur ibn Mujahid married Al-Ghazi's widow, who encouraged a second Jihad. Nur had become Emir of Harrar and worked to assist its rebuilding and aiding Mogadishu and the Arujans in Somalia. In 1550, he began a second invasion into Ethiopia. In 1557 the Ottomans took control of the port of Massawa, blocking the import of firearms from the Portuguese to Ethiopians and cutting off a major port of the Abbysinians. At this time the Oromo had begun raiding throughout the Horn as well, using the weakened state of the Abbysinians, Adals, and Arujans to begin to take control. In 1559, Gelawdewos is killed in battle by Nur, who continues his battles in Ethiopia for several more years. Menas became the next Emperor, but after subduing a rebellion against him with ottoman support, died of a fever in 1563. By now the Medhi Bahri turned against the Ethiopians, likely in part due to the Oromo invasions. Sarsa Dengel, the son of Menas, became the next Emperor and continued to fight the Ottomans, Medhi Bahri, and Nur's forces while fending off the Oromo. The multi-sided war had weakened everyone, though, and in the middle of battle, Nur ibn Mujahid exclaimed "Kaffa!" or "Enough" and ended the war and marched back to Harrar. He died there a few months later due to a plague and famine ravaging the city in the wake of multiple Oromo invasions. The Oromo would come to conquer the Solomon Dynasty, and in time, their greatness was all but forgotten. [link] [comments]

What would you like to see as post-launch content? Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:19 AM PDT What are you expecting for the post-launch conent of Valhalla? Daily and weekly quests like Odyssey? Special bosses or raids to complete? I would expect new assaults/raids as "community events", similar to what they did in Origins with the Gods. [link] [comments]
The new games are actually really fun. Posted: 22 Sep 2020 12:28 AM PDT I don't know if it's only me or anyone else but, I really liked the new games, maybe its because I started getting into assassins creed at the time of them coming out but still, I love the voice acting, it makes you feel like you are actually there, and the game is happening at ancient times, like it should. I loved the game play/quests because it made you feel like an actual MedJay/Mercenary. I admit sometimes the story can feel rushed but I rarely felt that while playing, I understand how people get pissed because they aren't actual assassins and I half agree half disagree, for Origins at the end it shows the start of the Hidden ones (assassins later on) and 'Amunet' while in odyssey the cult of Cosmos acts as the templars, you get missions and you have to assassinate them, just like in any other assassins creed games. But I also agree that maybe they put on the Assassins creed title for money (as expected, its Ubisoft) but as standalone, They are actually really good games. [link] [comments]
In the future, do you think Assassin's Creed will return to its original form? Posted: 22 Sep 2020 04:20 AM PDT Most comment I see on AC Valhalla trailer are talking about how people miss the 'old' AC games. I'm not talking about dozens, but hundreds. Do you think Ubisoft will consider this demand? Bonus: what setting do you want to see on the next AC game? Personally, I like 15th century Transylvania. PS: there's no poll feature on this sub so this is the best I can do. [link] [comments]

XBox Series X Version of Valhalla Posted: 22 Sep 2020 12:19 AM PDT I can't seem to find the answer to my question anywhere, so hoping you guys might have the answer. I am going to be getting the Series X, and also want to get Valhalla too. I am wondering, will there be an Xbox Series X physical edition of Valhalla, or will the XBox One edition just be compatible with Series X? All the answers I have read is that XBox One Valhalla edition will work on Series X. But, I haven't read anywhere whether or not there will be an actual Series X version of the game.
