Rewatching the story trailer a couple more times gave me some strange feelings Posted: 29 Sep 2020 04:55 PM PDT Did any one else get some weird nostalgia watching the new trailer? Especially when Eivor said he would be on Sigurd's side until Valhalla as they look out to the sea. We don't know the greater context to the scene or if even the dialogue is the same but it was incredibly reminisent of the opening to ACII. And Eivor actually getting to speak in this trailer made him felt like an actual character we can invest in rather than just being a self invert like Kassandra or Alexios. Which now that I think about, I don't think the two ever got to speak in any of the trailers for Odyssey nor did any trailer really talk about the plot of that game. I'm still on the fence on whether having a gender options will work this time, but so far (at least with male Eivor in the newest trailer), it feels far closer to the older games and especially Origins. And it's kinda sad for that it's almost strange having an actual character as our protagonist again. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Sep 2020 06:00 PM PDT Version 1: The "mainline" dev crew, who I'd argue are Ubisoft Montreal historically, and directly inspired by Patrice Desilets, but refined by Ashraf Ismael. These guys were the ones that pushed the bar forward when the other entries were content to just iterate on the formula. Though they may have been different studios, the idea was to change the formula completely. In a similar vein to Infinity Ward and Treyarch Call of Duty titles, these games are the Modern Warfare entries of AC. The graphics are generally better, the games take themselves more seriously, and they aim to secure big new leaps forward in the series' legacy. Assassin's Creed Version 2: The "fun" crew. These guys, historically Ubisoft Quebec, are responsible for some of the most interesting game mechanics, but usually insisted on sticking firmly within series norms. They are also the ones responsible for being most divisive with the traditional fanbase, for better or worse. While innovation is not really their strong suit, making certain gameplay elements more interactive and fleshed out is generally their motif. Assassin's Creed Syndicate Version 3: The "Ubisoft" crew. The big studio heads intent on following gaming trends and gearing production toward what's popular in the moment. These guys are the reason we went from third person historical action to gameplay that more resembles a freemium mobile game (not hating on this system as I am a fan of Origins and Odyssey). These guys have very little care for series lore, and encourage gameplay changes over plot progression. In my opinion they are to the series detriment as is any overbearing producer. These three elements mixing together is why the series has seemed to directionless for so many years. Three different parties who see the series as three completely different things: a standalone story, a platform for fun innovative mechanics with quirky characters and a cash cow that needs to fit whatever mould gamers find popular (at the moment The Witcher 3). What do you think? [link] [comments]
Sigurd is probably the villain of valhalla Posted: 29 Sep 2020 05:46 PM PDT I feel we will get the old villain switcheroo in valhalla, where King Alfred is set up early on as a villain only to become an ally and to have sigurd slowly end up as the end game villain. In new info released from Darby mcdevitt, Darby states Sigurd is a proud and charismatic man, full of confidence and the desire for adventure. But there is a darker side to him as well, one that begins to trouble Eivor as our story moves forward. There is also a line in the trailer where evior says I will Always be on your side sigurd, always. This quote along with darbys info for me foreshadows a conflict between the two. Neither of these two things are accidentally revealed on the same day. I also just get villain vibes off him from the trailer As a side thought, its interesting that in the old lore Cain and abel were the brothers that led to the two different ideologies of the templars and assassins. Its interesting here that we now have a situation with the game showing us maybe how the hidden ones/ order of ancients turn to the assassins and templars and we have two brothers/siblings and a hint of conflict at the centre of this narrative [link] [comments]

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla - Story / Hidden Ones Trailer Posted: 29 Sep 2020 08:59 AM PDT
I just finished the entire mainline series again and I want to share what I enjoyed about each game Posted: 29 Sep 2020 09:16 AM PDT I went in a weird order when I replayed but I'll just share in game order. This won't be too long, I just wanted to share some of my favorite things about one of my favorite game franchises. I always see people dissing this game or that one, and while I didnt absolutely love all of them, I did enjoy something unique about each of them. Assassin's Creed: The one that started it all. While it lacks most of the features that this series became, it set the basis for everything. I really enjoyed the style and how it set up a story that was for sure going to have sequels. At first it just seems like it could be a standalone game, but at the end it reveals that there is so much more to the story. It also invented the coolest weapon since the lightsabed, the hidden blade. Assassin's Creed 2: This one was really really good for its time. It took everything unique about the first game, and expanded on it in such good ways. The story was more personal, the world was huge, and there is so so so much to do. It might feel bloated at times, but if there's a game you want to sink hours into, it can take you a good few weeks to 100% it. AC Brotherhood: Just like what 2 did for 1, Brotherhood did for 2. The graphics got a lot better looking, and the mechanics felt much smoother. The story is short and sweet but has plenty of stuff to do in the world around it. Kill chains made combat so much less tedious and optional objectives finally gave more incentive during a mission other than "dont die." Recruits were a cool idea too. AC Revelations: This one felt like the culmination of every unique idea the franchise had in its pocket. It had epic parkour puzzles tied into the story, an amazing soundtrack, and the revelations at the end of the game get me misty eyed every time. Phenomenal mechanics embedded throughout. AC3: The first game to break away from the normal formula by updating how parkour felt, and giving us a lot more variety in the world. You could hunt, explore the frontier, go on naval missions, and build Ben Franklin's gadgets. My favorite thing was the setting though. I'm a sucker for American history and I had to stop playing Syndicate for this one because my wife made me watch Hamilton with her and it got me all riled up for fighting red coats. So cool to be a part of my own country's history. AC4: The back of the game case says "a Pirate, raised by Assassins," but really its the other way around. Edward is a pirate who became an Assassin and I loved the story for it. The naval combat was super cool and unique, but the story gets me every time. Its all fun and games until about 2/3rds in and then everything goes to hell. I love it. AC Rogue: I like how they were able to take the unique naval parts from Black Flag and expand on it. The world is so interesting to explore. You can find frozen ships lost at sea or a bit of wilderness with a French convoy to loot. The story isn't my favorite because it doesn't feel natural, but Shay was very interesting and believable for the most part. AC Unity: I know it's controversial but I really love this game. I experienced more bugs in 2, Brotherhood, and 3 than I did in this one. My favorite thing about it, is the sheer cinematicness of it all. The free-running, the stealthkills, the crowds of revolutionaries; it all just felt so alive like I was in a movie or something. I liked the gear to unlock and the co-op is really fun when I get a teammate who actually plays. Love it. AC Syndicate: Probably on the lower end of my AC games because of how much they dropped from Unity, but it does have something about it that no other game matched. The world is probably the best of all of them. At first glance its just a bunch of tall buildings to zip line around in, but when you start walking the streets and taking carriages everywhere, the world is so alive. You can find people singing in the parks, kids playing ball, some chaplains playing cricket, people going on dates, and so much more. It made it feel like the NPCs weren't just backdrop, but that they were backdrop made with care. AC Origins: Phenomenal setting. Not super big fan of how it teeters on RPG or normal AC, but the setting was so cool. Loved riding up to an oasis and seeing flocks of flamingos fly out, and also how much I learned about Egyptians. I hadn't realized how much Greek influence had been in that country and it was such a good history lesson. Bayek was the most interesting character since Edward Kenway, and I enjoyed all his interactions. AC Odyssey: Barely an Assassins Creed game, but an amazing open world rpg. I could just run around for hours exploring every little bit of Greece. Naval combat was back, but i liked the ship even better because I could explore every little island and land that I could see. Probably the most hours of any Assassins Creed game went into this. A single playthrough took me around 80 hours while Brotherhold took me 12. The main story isnt great, but being able to forge my own odyssey by exploring and taking on different side quests of my choice was literally epic. And thats all I got for now. I didnt 100% every one of them or play all of the DLCs, but this playthrough reminded me why I love this series so much. So many cool new mechanics to use in each game, and an awesome style. Can't wait for Valhalla! [link] [comments]
AC Odyssey final thoughts after completing it. Posted: 29 Sep 2020 03:59 PM PDT I took me 130h to complete the main story, defeat all the cult members and reach 57 level. The game honors its name since it is really a "odyssey". Huge map, beautiful, historical locations to name a few. Full of life human as well as animal. For some reason I couldn't stop playing, once you finish a mission you will want to do another an so on. Hundreds of missions, the only ones I found repetitive were less than the 10%. It is a great story, sadly, the ending is a bit unexpected and I think it could have been much better. One thing that is not good is the fact of fighting against Athenians and Spartans all the time without having a clear idea of who you have to support, we are a mercenary but it is better when you know who your enemy is and who your allie is. Some of you have compare the game with Origins. Well, I would say that Odyssey takes almost the double of time to complete it. The story. For me both are incredible but I reckon Origins is more remarkable, touching and with a brilliant final way better than Odyssey. [link] [comments]
Can you put on the hood without a cloak in Assassin's creed Valhalla? Posted: 29 Sep 2020 09:21 PM PDT In Assassin's creed Valhalla, when you put the hood on, the cloak automatically appears, which I don't really like. So, here's my question: can you put on the hood without a cloak? [link] [comments]
I just beat ac unity and I am disappointed(spoiler warning) Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:19 AM PDT Ok so assassins creed unity is the first and only ac game I bought (planning on buying other ac games in the future). What on hell was that? How was the ending satisfying at all. It doesn't make any sense. Arnos father gets killed. Arnos mentor gets poisoned/murdered. Arno has to kill his former best friend. And then Elise dies. And mind you arno literally said that he cares about her more than germain and is trying to make it up for her dads loss. My main problem here is that ac unity was a thrilling game. You know that felling going through the tunnels finding out ways to pull of your assassination.using your gadgets/abilities to move further in the palace and closer to your target. And then the biggest thrill is you having to escape. Once you have finished all that you feel accomplished and moving further to a pleasing ending. Yet non of that happened. Arno lost everyone lost the brotherhood and all he has is a fancy sword and a nice outfit [link] [comments]
Do we know if the Ringleader/Banneret enemy will be an enemy in all of the Kingdoms in Valhalla? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:10 AM PDT So do you guys remember the Cinematic trailers main knight enemy, he was in some screenshots aswell and in the new story trailer, you can see Eivor assassiating him in the neck. He is also in the East-Anglia demo. But my question is if he will be an enemy in every kingdom, cuz he looks so freaking cool man. And I want him in The kingdom of Wessex as he looks so cool in red. I mean we see him fighting alongside some Wessex soldiers in one screenshot of the game and the cinematic trailer. Hope you guys and girls have a wonderful day and thanks for answering my question! Theory: Regarding Mithras, and a potential for where Valhalla’s story might go.. Posted: 29 Sep 2020 12:11 PM PDT So we saw in the new trailer a statue of Mithras in a dark setting when the more "mysterious and secret" aspects were being discussed.... here's a theory I have about that. The cult of Mithras spread to England during Roman times, and likely has a link therefore to the Order of the Ancients. My theory is thus that we'll be dealing with Mithras' Sword (seen in some circles as related to the myth of Excalibur and the "Sword in the Stone") as a Sword of Eden, with the OOTA being tied into the English/Saxon mythos as descendants of earlier Roman Mythraic Cultists. Odyssey tidbit I found out after 5th playthrough Posted: 29 Sep 2020 12:43 PM PDT Have seen lots of videos and posts about details and such but havent seen anyone mention this: If you pay attention to the loading screen woth the triangular artifact it actually changes depending on your cultist kills. The more cultists you kill the more blood and masks are on the floor surrounding the artifact. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Sep 2020 02:04 AM PDT Holy shit did they make a perfect game, I don't think I've enjoyed a game this much since the Witcher 3. I've been putting it off and was even debating not getting Valhalla because Origins was a bit of a slog. Origins was alright but Odyssey fixes nearly every issue I had with Origins, I just felt like I was just powering through endless side missions that were exactly the same trying to level up. I've already put like 30 hours into Odyssey and I don't think I've even made it very far into the story, I just want to explore everywhere and do most of the stuff. The resources are so much better too, I basically have everything I need all the time instead of spending what felt like hours fighting fucking Hippos for their leather. I'm so excited for Valhalla now. I can't believe I haven't heard more positive things about this game. Sorry I know this post is basically meaningless, I just wanted to show my appreciation for the game they made. [link] [comments]
What are some small, weird things you've noticed in the AC franchise? Posted: 29 Sep 2020 09:17 PM PDT I was playing Black Flag again and I realized some massive oversight by Abstergo. They captured and got the data from Desmond's phone that shows pictures of Shaun and Rebecca (though I have to assume they knew about them even before this). However, Shaun is working literally in the building Abstergo is in. I'll halfway give Rebecca a pass since she was temporarily coming in. The only POSSIBLE theory I came up with is that, somehow, John the IT Guy erased Shaun and Rebecca from Abstergo Entertainment's systems so they couldn't recognize them. But still, seems flimsy. I hope we go back to Constantinople Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:43 AM PDT Imagine if We go back as part of the Season Pass, that would be amazing. Revelations was my favourite ac game because Constantininople had an amazing atmosphere. I hope they being it back. [link] [comments]
Medieval France - Mildly Obscure & Common Setting Discussions Posted: 29 Sep 2020 08:00 AM PDT A common trait Assassin's Creed groups have is the constant theorizing about future settings, because historical tourism is one of the best parts of the series. Many fans want pretty cliche settings such as the American Civil War and Wild West, World War 2, Ancient Rome, and Feudal Japan. Most of these popular settings will be discussed in my series on commonly suggested settings. The common thread between all settings in this series of posts is that they have not appeared on a Ubisoft poll or survey that can be easily found (China, Japan, Rome), they are not overly requested settings by the fanbase (see wild west and world war 2), and they all are relatively known enough to be marketable to a broad base. In each of these posts, I'll be discussing map areas, cities, architecture, culture, wars, historical events, historical characters, broad conjecture on how AC could work with this, and any existing lore in this area. Like with the Commonly Discussed series, I wanted to discuss a few potential settings in Medieval France today. The Frankish Emperor of the Romans Grandson of the famous Charles Martel, son of King Pepin the Short, Charlemagne became king of the Franks in 768. His first actions as King was to subdue a rebellion in Aquitaine and Gascony with his brother. Following success along the Pyrenees Mountains, Charlemagne began a 30-year war to conquer Saxony in modern-day Germany. He was primarily opposed by Widukind, a chieftain of the Saxons, and following his death in 785, a large number of Saxon nobles were massacred. It would end up taking Charlemagne another 17 years to fully subdue Saxony. In 774, he would go on to conquer Bavaria and Lombardy, leading him into conflict with the Avers/Hunns of Hungary in 788. In 789, he began pushing towards the Slavs and Baltic States but only ever led expeditions and never conquered them. On December 25th, 800ce, Charlemagne was crowned the Emperor of Romans, and the Carolingian Empire was the beginning of the Holy Roman Empire. After several more years of conflict with Danes, Charlemagne died in 814. He was not known to possess a PoE, but it may make sense for him to have held the faith prong. Around this time as well, the king of an island named Ys just off the coast of Brittany drunkenly opened the dikes to his castle to allow in a beautiful woman, flooding his island and sending it underwater. He escaped with his life, and some stories say the woman turned into a mermaid. The story itself, other than mermaids, doesn't seem too unrealistic, and I can definitely see an AC quest chain or DLC based on this mythical island. The Rise of the Capets and Vikings in France The death of Charlemagne left his third son, Louis the Pious as emperor in 814, and after years of turmoil from within as his cousin led a rebellion in 817, and his sons warred for control of different parts of Frankia between 823 and 835. Hostilities finally ended with the partitioning of the Empire between Western Frankia, Middle Frankia, and Eastern Frankia in 843. Ragnar Lothbrok, the Viking, wouldn't let the peace be, and sailed down the Seine and laid siege to Paris in 845. The king, Charles the Bald paid them a large amount of money and they left promising to stop raiding Western France. They did not in fact stop raiding western France. Meanwhile, Lothar in Central France died splitting his kingdom between his sons, Charles of Burgundy and Lothar II. Lothar was upset and this led him to work with his uncles Charles the Bald of Western Frankia and Louis the German of Eastern Frankia. Charles of Burgundy died in 863 and Lothar in 869, leading their uncles to take most of the land for themselves, and their nephew Louis II in charge of Northern Italy with the Treaty of Meerssen in 870. In 877, Charles the Bald died, and Louis III of Eastern Frankia began to divide it amongst himself and his sons, but health complications and deaths in the family would leave his son Charles the Fat as the ruler of the unified Carolingian Empire in 881ce. This would not last, as Rollo the Viking led the siege of Paris in 885 and occupied the city for a year. Charles the fat attempted to pay off the Vikings but was thwarted by Odo, Count of Paris. Charles the Fat was deposed by his nephew Arnulf of Carinthia led a rebellion against him. As Charles the Fat fled Paris, Odo was crowned king of France. A strong faction remained opposed to Odo and loyal to the Carolingians, and the 14-year-old Charles the Simple was crowned king in 893 with Odo deposed. In 911ce, Rollo once again raided and in response Charles the Simple made him Duke and created the Duchy of Normandy. This becomes important for English history because the Anglo-Saxons were very tied to the Carolingian Empire. During the 10th century, the daughter of the Duke of Normandy married one of the English Kings, and Edward the Elder's daughter married Charles the Simple in 919. During this time the Carolingians in Eastern Frankia died without heirs, and the Duke of Saxony, Henry the Fowler, son of Otto was elected to become Emperor, beginning the Ottonian Dynasty of the Holy Roman Empire. Charles the Simple was overthrown in 921 by Robert I, creating a 15 year-long series of civil wars to re-establish the control of Carolingians in Western Frankia. The Carolingians remained in control from 937-987, until Louis V died without an heir. Hugh Capet, the grandson of Robert I was elected by the dukes as the new King, and in turn, Hugh renamed the country to France and began the Capetian Dynasty, which ruled France with its cadet houses of the Valois and Bourbons until the French Revolution. The 100 Years War I don't wish to go too far into this period because I already had another post on it, but honestly, the Edwardian Phase of the 100 years war would be fantastic for a game, as would a game just focused on the Black Plague. Edward III of England claimed the throne of France following the death of Charles IV of France without any heirs. The Plantagenet House that ruled England came over from France in the early 12th century and had since married back into the Royal Family. Edward III, as a result, was the nephew of Charles IV. However, the cadet house of the Capetian Dynasty, the Valois, claimed the throne too, leading to one of the most famous medieval wars. The war began in 1337 with the invasion of Brittany leading to the war of Breton Succession and soon moved to Gascony in the south. In 1346 Edward the Black Prince, son of Edward III, led the battle of Crecy, and within a few months of the major victory, led the siege of Calais that the English would use to transport troops to France. At this point, the Black Plague arrived in France and ravaged the lands for 5 years. I could honestly see this being the majority of the game. Over half the French population died, and a third of English. The Germans had mass hysteria and burned Jews en masse believing they caused the disease. By now, both the assassins and Templars were just coming back above ground and there were rumors of German Assassins and templars searching for an Ankh in the Holy Roman Empire, that had largely allied itself with England. Around this time too, Nicholas Flamel began researching and trying to create a philosopher's stone under Paris, something with very little lore context. Perhaps it was to try to cure the plague? I can also see Saint-Denis apple being tied to the plague, as it may be able to control rodents and small mammals, like the bats we see in Dead Kings. Despite this, the war raged on and in 1355 returned in full force as the Black Prince sacked much of Northern France. The Black prince offered peace to King John of France, but upon refusal turned to John Chandos who helped orchestrate the victory and capture of King John at the Battle of Poitiers in 1356. The Black Prince continued his campaigns for 4 more years before marching towards Paris when Black Monday saw a hailstorm kill 1000 of his troops. They sued for peace and signed the Treaty of Bretigny ceding back some of the lands taken. At this time the Castilian Civil War was in effect in Iberia and Prince Edward and John Chandos went down to assist with the hopes they'd ally themselves with the English. During this, in 1369 the French invaded the English-owned lands, and following the death of John Chandos, the Castilians allied themselves with the French. This launched the Caroline War which was 20 years of campaigns of the French primarily attempting to retake the land the English had claimed. This was followed by a 30-year long peace until the Henry V of the Lancasters invaded Normandy in 1415. This period known as the Lancasterian War lasted until 1453 and had several of the well-known people and battles including the Battle of Agincourt and the Siege of Orleans. Notably, Jeanne d'Arc became a military leader during the phase until she was executed by the English in 1431 at the age of 19. In Lore, she was actually linked to the Isu Consus and possessed a sword of Eden. her capture and execution was a plot by Templars to regain the sword of Eden that was likely stolen from the vault under Paris. However, Jeanne was not really executed and a look-alike took her place, while Jeanne fled and lived her life in peace. The French would go on to dominate during this phase of the war, potentially in part due to the French Princess Catherine marrying the English King. Following the French victory at Castillion, the Treaty of Picquigny in 1475 formally removed the English claim of French territory other than Calais. While the 100 years war does belong in a common settings discussion, I'd be remiss to not discuss it as one of the best potential medieval French settings. [link] [comments]
