Assassins Creed 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations really are the pinnacle of the series

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 10:40 PM PDT

I've been replaying the older games, and man these games really were ahead of their time. The graphics hold up really well even after 10 years and Ezio's story is arguably one of the best in any game, following him from his bachelor days and evolving into a fully fledged assassin. That's it, I just wanted to express my love for the Ezio trilogy.

Oh and by the way, I did miss the hug with Leonardo in AC2.

AC Valhalla might be the peak of the franchise so far. [spoilers]

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 11:48 PM PDT

In Origins and Odyssey, the question mark-based exploration became a chore, a mundane checklist that made the game feel like a game. In the older AC's the side activities, though fun, lacked in variety and I would find myself skipping from one memory to the next mostly because they were that good. Valhalla's exploration seems so much better, combining both ideas. The markers being of Wealth, Mysteries or Secrets is a great of mix of direction and uncertainty. We can go after what we need and want while still keeping the surprise element of the activity until we get there. It's beautiful how what we need, be it better gear or skill points or books of knowledge are all tied into the world and immerse us more than just take us out of it. And also with the intro of power levels, if we feel like it, we probably will be able to stream through the main memories. It leaves us in control of exploration and I love that.

The main memories of AC were always its highest points. The writing for them was always beautiful. They kept us excited and gave enticing moments to remember. But not Odyssey. Its main quests included kill them, get that, investigate, and setpiece combat situations. For a game of that size, it was mundane. The devs called Valhalla's narrative as divided into sagas with each saga beginning and ending at our settlement. Each of them will feel like 'a feature film'. The words are eccentric, but I think they mean it will be grand. And unique.

The gender mystery is the most enticing thing for me. Why is Eivor both male and female being at the heart of this game as Darby pointed out brings back memories of Desmond. Juno and Minerva, their cryptic words. Mystery is what AC has missed. We have not had such a large mystery driving a game since AC3. And if it is as epic as Darby claims, the game will reach a different height in this franchise.

These are my thoughts on Exploration, Missions and Modern Day. What's yours?

Here is a simplistic design I've done of a male Eivor in my style, please let me know what you think! Hope toy all like it!

    Darby's thoughts on branching stories/dialogues

Just saw this on Twitter and the chain just ended. Thought I should pass it along.

Tinfoil: Darby agrees that remaking AC: Altaïr's Chronicles (DS) and AC: Bloodlines (PSP) would be the way to go --- AC1 plus those remade for next-gen would be dope

What is your favorite group of games?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 08:32 PM PDT

By group I mean 1 to Revelations (the "Desmond saga"), the Kenway Trilogy (3 to Rogue), Unity and Syndicate, or the RPG duo, Origins and Odyssey.

Mine is the Kenway Trilogy, I love the moral discussions of the trilogy, the parkour, combat, and naval gameplay. Unity still is and probably always will be my favorite, but Syndicate was meh, while Origins and Odyssey were both really good but not to the same degree as the Kenway games. 1 was pretty good, and the Ezio trilogy is fantastic, but not to the degree that everyone says it is (probably just dug my own grave right there).

Just curious about what you all think and whether you agree or not

With a collection being "statues of every playable character", do you think it would be incomplete without both male and female Eivor?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 05:27 PM PDT

Very weird question I know, but I'd like some outside perspective.

I am on a quest to have a statue for every playable character in the series. I'm currently up to date but I don't know what to do about Eivor.

Would you consider male and female Eivor separate characters, thus facilitating the purchase of both statues? Or would you consider them the same character, meaning you'd only need one or the other?

I'm getting the female Eivor with the collector's edition, and with the PS5 coming out at the end of the year I don't know if I should buy male Eivor or just put that money towards the PS5.

I played AC Unity for 100 hours and got 100% Completion and I still don't know if Ubisoft wanted me to think the French Revolution was good or bad

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 10:59 AM PDT

By going off the marketing, the ads were implying the Assassin's were helping to liberate the France from the bad guys, but the in game lore wasn't so clear cut. The reality of the event meant that evil people like Robespierre made things turn really badly but the way the game goes about telling it I found inconsistent. Was the game trying to say that it was a good cause hijacked by bad people or that it was the bad people in charge all along within the story of the game specfically? Apparently a political party in France got upset by the way the game depicts the event because it undermined the Revolution. I got mixed messages from the game and I'm not sure what it was trying to say about the French Revolution. It wasn't as clear cut as the American Revolution in ACIII.

Everyone wants Feudal Japan but late Edo/industrial Japan would be much more interesting.

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 04:29 AM PDT

Having being an American living in Japan for awhile, I've grown very interested in Japanese culture and history(always have been but even more so now).

Though I've played the Assassins Creed games since the very first one released, I've only been in this subreddit for not even two years yet, but I've seen a massive amount of requests that Ubisoft make an AC game set in feudal Japan, specifically within the Kamakura-Muromachi periods when the Shogun were in charge with their samurai clans at command.

Yes, that classical time period was extremely brutal and would serve for a great landscape for a game but it's honestly the most overdone period within Japanese history when it comes to all forms of media. And I feel like that is what the world outside of Japan imagines when they think about pre modern/technologically advanced Japan today because that is all that is ever shown.

Well around the late 19th century during the industrial growth and outsider trading with foreign countries began, reign shifted back from the Shogun to the Emperor due to many reasons, but time was moving on and the samurai lifestyle couldn't support itself.

But during that time when power was transitioning, not every samurai clan wanted to adapt to the current situation. There were plans of rebellion but obviously history tells us they didn't succeed.

I think it would be awesome to play as an Assassin during this time as wait for it.....the last samurai.

The time period would be nearly the same as Syndicates so the the weapons and tools wouldn't be so far advanced into that automatic rifle era yet, something that would break that AC aesthetic.

But unlike London during that time, Japan was still in the process of building upwards and advancing since trade wasn't as common as it was in Europe and there was a lot less people to work. Meaning from an architectural stand point, the landscape would still be very similar to that feudal Japan that everyone wants but with more advancements in towns and cities.

Just some thoughts for those also wanting a Japan based AC. Thanks for reading. And if you have anything you'd like to add or correct on my info please do so because I am no expert by any means.

Why is there a lack of scabbards for swords in every AC game except the first?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 03:38 PM PDT

I've always wondered why Ubisoft never made any sheaths for the blades post AC1. It sort of bothered me when I see Ezio or Edward walking around with open blades strapped to their belts.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Narrative Director Responds To Eivor Gender Claims

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 12:15 PM PDT

Which protagonist deserves their own game the most Aya or Evie ?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 03:14 PM PDT

Me personally I say Evie just because Bayek was one of the best assassins in a while. I would play a Evie standalone game because she carried that game

The body politic murder mystery [Spoilers] in Unity

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 08:46 PM PDT

Can someone explain to me why it was the political opponent (i forgot his name)? I couldn't find any evidence that he was the 'Patriot' agent and not his wife, as all evidence pointed to her, having the necklace, and when it wasn't her i was very confused to the point where i gave up and googled it. What evidence points to him specifically, except the fact that he was a political opponent?

I know this is old, but I came up with a jackdaw bossfight on rouge

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 12:32 PM PDT

Apologies for formatting "Cap'n! Look at that brig!" Shay: Aye, it looks like any old brig to me (Press [] to use spyglass) Shay: Wait a minute, the firepower on her seems different from anything I've ever seen! What is it? Crew: CAP'N, ITS THE JACKDAW! Shay: No, that's impossible. Kenway is dead! Shay: Look at the sails on that monster! How is it moving? [Sails are ripped btw] (Jackdaw starts firing multiple mortars) Crew: IT'S FIRIN! WATCH OUT! (Jackdaw fight) Jackdaw mechanics: Ram can take out most of your health, like the morriagan. Broadsides do brilliant damage, but are very weak and exposed. Mortars are mortars, you know the drill. When pursuing it from behind, it will release multiple fire barrels. Chain shots from the front of the ship dangerously slows your ship. Like the morrigan, it can go fast or slow at will, aka the sail stuff. Broadsides fire 1 set, but heavy shots will take down most of your health with every hit against the hull. Once defeated, you gain £45000, Shay the legend outfit, kenways gunswords with the finisher thing, a cheat that gives you four pistols while active, and the shredded sails.

Where does this quote come about in AC3? Anyone know off hand which cutscene?

    Assassin's Creed Valhalla & Odyssey - BELIEVER

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 05:10 PM PDT

What themes / prominent eras do you think an AC game should be set in??

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 06:13 PM PDT

I personally like the idea of a Mayan or Aztec sort of one. I know in AC4 there was a bit of Mayan influence but it could be cool to have a whole game around that sort of culture...
