Assassins creed black flag brings tears to my eyes for all the right reasons

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 01:56 AM PDT

It's just that Edward grew up with next to nothing, so he wanted for his wife and children to have it all. But that desire soon turned into greed (this is basically where ac4 starts). But it is important to remember that most of his pirate friends were that, his friends. He struggled with them and they formed a family, a psychotic one but a family nonetheless. And in his greed they started dying one by one until he realized that at the end of the road he was walking, in his efforts to get it all for everyone, he lost everything and everyone. And to me at least it says a lot about people, when we are so desperate to get somewhere we antithetically start standing in our own way, the way edward overcame this is by joining the brotherhood, being a part of something larger than himself

Recruiting and Managing the Assassins Order in Brotherhood is one of the most fun elements Ubisoft came up with for the franchise.

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 09:40 PM PDT

I mean really. The fact that Ezio could recruit people from the populace of Rome, train them, send them out on contracts throughout Europe, and call them into combat was one of the many reasons I like this game so much. It made the Assassins feel to me like a real organization and sharing a common goal. Plus the extra florins from the contracts certainly didn't hurt.

Side note: still can't believe that Ezio is freaking 40 at the start of Brotherhood.

What is up with Rogue's factions?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 06:07 PM PDT

Like... I get that they wanted to make a game with Templar's where you don't feel like a total piece of crap for being evil, but the Templars and Assassins literally feel like the opposite of normal.

The Templars are legit good guys for the most part and actually are helping people.

The Assassins are straight up criminals that have gang strongholds oppressing people and making weapons to kill civilians.

We're not just seeing it "from a different point of view," it's straight up opposite to how they've been acting for the entire series. I haven't beaten the game since it came out, so feel free to remind if something in the end makes it more clear, but so far I don't get it. At least gameplay wise its really fun.

AC III is my favorite game

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 03:29 PM PDT

Bear with me, it has been a while since I played the game but I still stand by the fact that AC III is my favorite game out of the franchise.

I got reminded of how much I love this game now that I am playing through "Rogue" for the first time. AC III was my first introduction to the series, which played a major part, but what I loved about that game was the linear story, but most of all the antagonist of the story: Haytham. Haytham is easily one of the best written characters this game franchise have ever offered, and it saddens me that he never will get his own game. I also adore the setting of the game.

Though, the game of course has it's flaws. Connor is a bad ass, but quite flat compared to his father. What bugs me the most is that the game never explored the "native" aspect of his life that deeply. Ubisoft has a tendency to do this, as with Arno who existed in one of the most chaotic times, but it never got explored that much which was surely a missed opportunity (The French Revolution).

To be real honest, I wouldn't had liked the game as much if it hadn't been my first, or if Haytham had been written differently (or not existed at all) but the story really carried the game, despite it's flaws.

Do any of you have a favorite game that is not a "popular" pick?

    In universe movie plot hole?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 10:30 PM PDT

So I bought Origins and Odyssey recently and my OCD says I have to start the series over, currently on 4 and I think I found a plot hole or possibly retcon. In the original Assassin's Creed, Desmond can read an e-mail that says the last movie theatre closed because the world wasn't interested in films anymore, but in Black Flag A LOT of the data entries mentions Abstergo wanting to make movies off certain characters. So did Abstergo Entertainment singlehandedly bring back the movie industry since 1, did Ubisoft forget about that e-mail, or did they retcon it?

Articles about what the Valhalla team did after Ash ismail left?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 07:29 PM PDT

I was just curious if there are any articles out there, detailing how the team had to change and adapt after he left. Like who took over his position and whatnot. I'm wondering if it possibly threw any wrenches in the works as this game neared completion.

OK I might get hate for this opinion (Spoilers for odyssey)

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 04:38 PM PDT

But isn't alexios/Kassandra the strongest most powerful character in the AC universe

You can think what ever you want on odyssey. But did Ubisoft intentionally make alexios/kassandra the most powerful character in AC, People in the community say Connor was the strongest, he took out all the templars and could take out an army

But In AC odyssey this character took out an entire cult out on their own, Can take out these mythical being, Went into the underworld and fucked up hades, fucked up alexios (kassandra is the Canon character) alexios and kassandra both have the blood of God's. Becomes the protector of atlantis.

    What's your view on this?

What are people’s problem with AC3?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 10:11 AM PDT

Apart from the obvious (idk how to do the spoiler thing on mobile.. but the ending) which was quite annoying I don't think it deserves the hate it gets. I started playing the game expecting the worst because of the subreddit's complaints about the game. Story is very good it just can get very slow in some parts and unexplained at some stages. Gameplay is good bar a few issues here and there. Graphics are good for a game from that year. So it surprises me it gets that much hate, I would really like to know what people's main problems with it are because I am sure the reasons are justified. For me though, even the ending was not the worst way they could have done it. Also I am wondering if the King Washington DLC is worth getting and whether Liberation would just be worth skipping entirely. Especially as it is not part of the main story, and people also seem to not like it, whether it is skippable.

AC Unity almost had perfect combat

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 09:48 AM PDT

Unity was my first game in the franchise (now playing origins), and a lot of people seem to love or hate the combat, but not for the same reasons I'll be listing here. Firstly, I'm not bad. I love a challenging game, but only if the challenge is fun. Anyways, to get to the point, Unity had the right idea but the execution made it not much fun. For example, attack indicators are total shit and only show up when they want to. You have to watch enemy body language because if you're going off the indicator alone, it can be really hard to guess when or if you should parry. Sometimes attack indicators show up too late or not at all. Some attacks you have to parry when they're in the yellow, but if you mix them up for an attack that only glows up to red you get hit and severely punished. Marksmen can kill you in one shot, which would be less of an issue if you didn't have to keep them in frame in order to see when they plan on shooting. This is hard when you're juggling a couple enemies on the ground, or you have more than one marksman shooting at you. Another issue with marksmen is that the roll button is also the parkour button, so if there isn't an enemy directly next to you to make the roll button available, you're fucked. Also, Arno loves to lock on to enemies when you're trying to run away, so instead of escaping you end up walking backwards slowly and dying. If you want to use a smoke bomb, there is an insane delay between pressing the button and the action happening, often causing you to get hit before you have the chance to quickly conceal yourself. Sometimes doing air assassinations and pressing attack before its complete will cause Arno to just leave the dude on the ground, alive. The result of all this is a very frustrating combat system. Despite these issues, I still believe with a bit of tweaking unity could have a perfect combat system. Thanks for reading my short rant about a video game.

(Black Flag) (PS4) Cannot Disarm/Kill Guards

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 05:49 PM PDT

I just started a play through of Black flag and I'm on the mission where you have to recruit crew for the Jackdaw. I'm trying to get 100% synchronization, and one of the optional objectives says "disarm and kill 3 guards."

Well I disarmed 3 guards and then killed them but it won't give me the completion.

And yes, I'm sure they were disarmed.

Question about Sages in AC4, Spoiler for those yet to play it

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 10:05 PM PDT

The short of the question is, "Has Ubisoft mentioned of other Sages living at the same time".

Long of it is that, in the letters you find in ac4, at various locations, the writer himself is a sage, who died of old age a few years before the sage we see as Edward gets offed.

Letter number 15 mentions that it at least is possible for two to live during the same time as each other, but I was wondering if anyone on here had read somewhere of other sages living during the same time as each other. Probably not, least not yet mentioned, but thought I'd ask.

Found out Multiplayer is still alive. Anyone want to join?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 05:24 PM PDT

Not for everyone, but I know there's a small group out there that enjoyed these modes.

I had heard in a past post that there's a small group of ACB and ACR multiplayer gamers still assassinating each other. I'm sure it's still going on Playstation and Xbox, but I ended up on the PC servers.

Gotta say, it was nostalgic as hell. I remember being in the top 100 ranked players back in the day and how much fun it was hiding in plain sight of actual people. There are still the annoying roof-runners that only use their hidden guns, but I found a few matches with actually skilled players.

Not sure how much longer these servers will be up for (it's been 10 years), but I invite anybody that has the games and enjoyed them to check it out again. It obviously takes a bit to find a match, but Revelations seemed to connect much faster than Brotherhood.

Really confused about the ending of Legacy of the First Blade (Spoilers)

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 11:17 AM PDT

I am really quite confused about how the Legacy of the First Blade and the Blind King match up. There seem to be a ton of inconsistencies, and while I know The Blind King is an extra mission that not everyone played, it just doesn't seem hard to make sure that the same story within the same game is consistent.
At the end of Legacy of the First Blade, the man holding Elpidios is Darius, the son of Artaxerxes, the blind king. As I understand it, the story goes that Father in Law Darius killed Xerxes. In "the blind king," Artaxerxes confirms this story, but Alexios/Kassandra is skeptical.

Artaxerxes says Father in Law Darius poisoned him, making him blind. However, when FIL Darius tells the story, he says Amorges stopped him at the door. At some point, Artaxerxes had a son, and then named him after his would-be assassin. Artaxerxes claims his brother hired FIL Darius to kill him, but FIL Darius claims he did it to kill the tyrant.

Artaxerxes said he let people believe he was assassinated and escaped to Greece. However, Prince Darius uses the present tense when he says "He is a good king, and a great father. Persia knows peace, she prospers. I miss him." It is very clear that Artaxerxes is still alive, and still King of Persia.

So, it seems the main points are that
    1. The Eagle Bearer doesn't believe FIL Darius' story, even though he has already heard a version of it.
    2. Artaxerxes' story and FIL Darius' story do not match up.
    3. Artaxerxes is simultaneously the deposed and current king of Persia.
    4. We are to believe Artaxerxes knew FIL Darius tried to kill him, but still named his son after him.

Am I missing something, or is this terrible storytelling? I have thought there was bad story telling before, and Reddit has corrected me, so please, what am I missing?

Voice acting is inarguably one of the big things that makes an awesome narrative awesome. Here's my list of characters that had the best voice actors in the series:

TIER 1 Bayek, Haytham, Jacob, Blackbeard, Shaun Hastings

TIER 2 Shay, Juno, Ezio, Edward Kenway, Connor, Elise, Germain, Cesare, Giovanni Auditore, Yusuf Tazim, Adewale, Violet da Costa

Which character do you think had the best voice??

    Cult of Kosmos as proto-assassins?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 11:33 PM PDT

Is possible that the Cult of Kosmos was meant to be a proto-assassins organization instead that a proto-templar one?

Personally I think it makes sense considering its ideology and the fact the fact that the Order of the Ancients was a separate group that worked with it only sometimes for convenience, as the OotA had little regard for the Cult

Also, [spoiler for Odyssey ending] becouse the Cult was wiped out by Kassandra it makes sense that a former group of proto-assassins didn't exist untill Origins, the only thing that doesn't match is that canonically Kassandra let Aspasia live and she said she would have founded another group... maybe she then just joined the OotA idk

If they made an assassin creed rome game could it have Aquilus in it? Is Aquilus cannon?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 08:30 AM PDT

He was from the french comics series called "The Ankh of Isis Trilogy". I understand that the series was de-cannonized but not the actual ancestor so he is just a blank slate? Is this why El Cakr wasn't in origins? or even referenced?

Aquilus looks like this btw https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/assassinscreed/images/b/b3/ACE-Aquilus_Render.png/revision/latest?cb=20130211120213

I remember wasy back to to this photo from unity of this assassin in the Helix shop and the quest was called "The Bladed Cross" which looks like this https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/assassinscreed/images/6/64/ACU_Byzantine_Assassin.png/revision/latest?cb=20150519135934

He looks awfully like Accipter to me who looks like this (who also comes from the de-cannonized trilogy so he would be a blank slate too yes) https://www.deviantart.com/yowan2008/art/Assassin-s-Creed-Accipiter-479056828
